ਕਵਨ ਕਾਜ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਜਗ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਕਵਨ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

kavan kaaj siraje jag bheetar janam kavan fal paaeaa |

For what purpose were you created and brought into the world? What rewards have you received in this life?

ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

bhav nidh taran taaran chintaaman ik nimakh na ihu man laaeaa |1|

God is the boat to carry you across the terrifying world-ocean; He is the Fulfiller of the mind's desires. You have not centered your mind on Him, even for an instant. ||1||

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥

gobind ham aise aparaadhee |

O Lord of the Universe, I am such a sinner!

ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਥਾ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jin prabh jeeo pindd thaa deea tis kee bhaau bhagat nahee saadhee |1| rahaau |

God gave me body and soul, but I have not practiced loving devotional worship to Him. ||1||Pause||

ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਤੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰ ਅਪਬਾਦੁ ਨ ਛੂਟੈ ॥

par dhan par tan par tee nindaa par apabaad na chhoottai |

Others' wealth, others' bodies, others' wives, others' slander and others' fights - I have not given them up.

ਆਵਾ ਗਵਨੁ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਪਰਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ॥੨॥

aavaa gavan hot hai fun fun ihu parasang na toottai |2|

For the sake of these, coming and going in reincarnation happens over and over again, and this story never ends. ||2||

ਜਿਹ ਘਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਹੋਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਕੀਨੑੋ ਮੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥

jih ghar kathaa hot har santan ik nimakh na keenao mai feraa |

That house, in which the Saints speak of the Lord - I have not visited it, even for an instant.

ਲੰਪਟ ਚੋਰ ਦੂਤ ਮਤਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੩॥

lanpatt chor doot matavaare tin sang sadaa baseraa |3|

Drunkards, thieves, and evil-doers - I constantly dwell with them. ||3||

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਏ ਸੰਪੈ ਮੋ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

kaam krodh maaeaa mad matasar e sanpai mo maahee |

Sexual desire, anger, the wine of Maya, and envy - these are what I collect within myself.

ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਏ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪॥

deaa dharam ar gur kee sevaa e supanantar naahee |4|

Compassion, righteousness, and service to the Guru - these do not visit me, even in my dreams. ||4||

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਛਲ ਭੈ ਹਾਰੀ ॥

deen deaal kripaal damodar bhagat bachhal bhai haaree |

He is merciful to the meek, compassionate and benevolent, the Lover of His devotees, the Destroyer of fear.

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਭੀਰ ਜਨ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਉ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੫॥੮॥

kehat kabeer bheer jan raakhahu har sevaa krau tumaaree |5|8|

Says Kabeer, please protect Your humble servant from disaster; O Lord, I serve only You. ||5||8||
