ਵਣ ਵਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਣਾਸਪਤਿ ਇਕੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਇਕੋ ਪਾਣੀ ।

van van vich vanaasapat iko dharatee iko paanee |

In all the forests vegetation is there and at all the places there is the same earth and the same water.

ਰੰਗ ਬਿਰੰਗੀ ਫੁਲ ਫਲ ਸਾਦ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਸਨਬੰਧ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ।

rang birangee ful fal saad sugandh sanabandh viddaanee |

This sameness notwithstanding, the fragrance, taste and colour of fruits and flowers are wondrously different.

ਉਚਾ ਸਿੰਮਲੁ ਝੰਟੁਲਾ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਚੀਲੁ ਚੜ੍ਹੈ ਅਸਮਾਣੀ ।

ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ ਵਣਾਸਪਤਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਗੰਧ ਰਵਾਣੀ ।

chandan vaas vanaasapat vaas rahai niragandh ravaanee |

Sandal makes the whole vegetation fragrant but bamboo remains devoid of fragrance.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਅਭਾਗ ਪਰਾਣੀ ।

saadhasangat gur sabad sun ridai na vasai abhaag paraanee |

Those who even listening to the word of Guru in the holy congregation do not adopt it in the heart are unfortunate.

ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ।੫।

haumai andar bharam bhulaanee |5|

They engrossed in ego and delusions go astray.
