Third Mehl:

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

aasaa manasaa jag mohanee jin mohiaa sansaar |

Hope and desire entice the world; they entice the whole universe.

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਚੀਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥

sabh ko jam ke cheere vich hai jetaa sabh aakaar |

Everyone, and all that has been created, is under the domination of Death.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

hukamee hee jam lagadaa so ubarai jis bakhasai karataar |

By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, Death seizes the mortal; he alone is saved, whom the Creator Lord forgives.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਤਰੈ ਜਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

naanak gur parasaadee ehu man taan tarai jaa chhoddai ahankaar |

O Nanak, by Guru's Grace, this mortal swims across, if he abandons his ego.

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

aasaa manasaa maare niraas hoe gurasabadee veechaar |2|

Conquer hope and desire, and remain unattached; contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
