Gauree, Fifth Mehl:

ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਜੋ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਲੋਗ ॥

vadde vadde jo deeseh log |

Those who seem to be great and powerful,

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥

tin kau biaapai chintaa rog |1|

are afflicted by the disease of anxiety. ||1||

ਕਉਨ ਵਡਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

kaun vaddaa maaeaa vaddiaaee |

Who is great by the greatness of Maya?

ਸੋ ਵਡਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

so vaddaa jin raam liv laaee |1| rahaau |

They alone are great, who are lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਭੂਮੀਆ ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥

bhoomeea bhoom aoopar nit lujhai |

The landlord fights over his land each day.

ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥

chhodd chalai trisanaa nahee bujhai |2|

He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

kahu naanak ihu tat beechaaraa |

Says Nanak, this is the essence of Truth:

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪੪॥੧੧੩॥

bin har bhajan naahee chhuttakaaraa |3|44|113|

without the Lord's meditation, there is no salvation. ||3||44||113||
