ਜਿਉ ਜਨਨੀ ਸੁਤੁ ਜਣਿ ਪਾਲਤੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥
jiau jananee sut jan paalatee raakhai nadar majhaar |
Just as the mother, having given birth to a son, feeds him and keeps him in her vision
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਗਿਰਾਸੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪੋਚਾਰਿ ॥
antar baahar mukh de giraas khin khin pochaar |
- indoors and outdoors, she puts food in his mouth; each and every moment, she caresses him.
ਤਿਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਰਾਖਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥
tiau satigur gurasikh raakhataa har preet piaar |1|
In just the same way, the True Guru protects His GurSikhs, who love their Beloved Lord. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਹੈ ਇਆਣੇ ॥
mere raam ham baarik har prabh ke hai eaane |
O my Lord, we are just the ignorant children of our Lord God.
ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦੇ ਕੀਏ ਸਿਆਣੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhan dhan guroo gur satigur paadhaa jin har upades de kee siaane |1| rahaau |
Hail, hail, to the Guru, the Guru, the True Guru, the Divine Teacher who has made me wise through the Lord's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈਸੀ ਗਗਨਿ ਫਿਰੰਤੀ ਊਡਤੀ ਕਪਰੇ ਬਾਗੇ ਵਾਲੀ ॥
jaisee gagan firantee aooddatee kapare baage vaalee |
The white flamingo circles through the sky,
ਓਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਚੀਤੁ ਪੀਛੈ ਬਿਚਿ ਬਚਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲੀ ॥
oeh raakhai cheet peechhai bich bachare nit hiradai saar samaalee |
but she keeps her young ones in her mind; she has left them behind, but she constantly remembers them in her heart.
ਤਿਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਰਖੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
tiau satigur sikh preet har har kee gur sikh rakhai jeea naalee |2|
In just the same way, the True Guru loves His Sikhs. The Lord cherishes His GurSikhs, and keeps them clasped to His Heart. ||2||
ਜੈਸੇ ਕਾਤੀ ਤੀਸ ਬਤੀਸ ਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਮਾਸ ਰਤੁ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
jaise kaatee tees batees hai vich raakhai rasanaa maas rat keree |
Just as the tongue, made of flesh and blood, is protected within the scissors of the thirty-two teeth
ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਮਾਸ ਕਾਤੀ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
koee jaanahu maas kaatee kai kichh haath hai sabh vasagat hai har keree |
who thinks that the power lies in the flesh or the scissors? Everything is in the Power of the Lord.
ਤਿਉ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਪੈਜ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੩॥
tiau sant janaa kee nar nindaa kareh har raakhai paij jan keree |3|
In just the same way, when someone slanders the Saint, the Lord preserves the honor of His servant. ||3||
ਭਾਈ ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਕਿਸੀ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
bhaaee mat koee jaanahu kisee kai kichh haath hai sabh kare karaaeaa |
O Siblings of Destiny, let none think that they have any power. All act as the Lord causes them to act.
ਜਰਾ ਮਰਾ ਤਾਪੁ ਸਿਰਤਿ ਸਾਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
jaraa maraa taap sirat saap sabh har kai vas hai koee laag na sakai bin har kaa laaeaa |
Old age, death, fever, poisons and snakes - everything is in the Hands of the Lord. Nothing can touch anyone without the Lord's Order.
ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥੫੧॥
aisaa har naam man chit nit dhiaavahu jan naanak jo antee aausar le chhaddaaeaa |4|7|13|51|
Within your conscious mind, O servant Nanak, meditate forever on the Name of the Lord, who shall deliver you in the end. ||4||7||13||51||
