PAADHARI STANZA

ਉਪਜਿਓ ਸੁ ਦਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

aupajio su dat monee mahaan |

ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

das chaar chaar bidiaa nidhaan |

The loving Dutt, the store of eighteen sciences was born

ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਗਿ ਸੁਧ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ॥

saasatrag sudh sundar saroop |

ਅਵਧੂਤ ਰੂਪ ਗਣ ਸਰਬ ਭੂਪ ॥੩੭॥

avadhoot roop gan sarab bhoop |37|

He was the knower of Shastras and had a charming figure he was Yogi king of all the ganas.37.

ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਜੋਗ ਕਿਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥

saniaas jog kino prakaas |

ਪਾਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਦਾਸ ॥

paavan pavit sarabatr daas |

He spread the cults of Sannyas and Yoga and he was totally spotless and servitor of all

ਜਨ ਧਰਿਓ ਆਨਿ ਬਪੁ ਸਰਬ ਜੋਗ ॥

jan dhario aan bap sarab jog |

ਤਜਿ ਰਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਅਰੁ ਤਿਆਗ ਭੋਗ ॥੩੮॥

taj raaj saaj ar tiaag bhog |38|

He was the apparent manifestation of Yoga, who abandoned the path of royal pleasure.38.

ਆਛਿਜ ਰੂਪ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

aachhij roop mahimaa mahaan |

ਦਸ ਚਾਰਵੰਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

das chaaravant sobhaa nidhaan |

He was greatly praiseworthy, had a charming personality and also the store-house of Grace

ਰਵਿ ਅਨਿਲ ਤੇਜ ਜਲ ਸੋ ਸੁਭਾਵ ॥

rav anil tej jal so subhaav |

ਉਪਜਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਵ ॥੩੯॥

aupajiaa jagat sanayaas raav |39|

His disposition was radiant like sun and fire and had cool temperament like water he manifested himself as the king of Yogis in the world.39.

ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਜ ਭਏ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ॥

sanayaas raaj bhe dat dev |

ਰੁਦ੍ਰਾਵਤਾਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਜੇਵ ॥

rudraavataar sundar ajev |

Dutt Dev was superior to all in Sannyas Ashrama (monastic order) and was becoming incarnation of Rudra

ਪਾਵਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਭਯੇ ਤੇਜ ਜਾਸੁ ॥

paavak samaan bhaye tej jaas |

ਬਸੁਧਾ ਸਮਾਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਸੁ ਤਾਸੁ ॥੪੦॥

basudhaa samaan dheeraj su taas |40|

His radiance was like fire and power of Rudra his radiance was like fire and power endurance like earth.40.

ਪਰਮੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਦੇਵ ਦਤ ॥

paraman pavitr bhe dev dat |

ਆਛਿਜ ਤੇਜ ਅਰੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ॥

aachhij tej ar bimal mat |

Dutt was a person of purity, indestructible splendour and pure intellect

ਸੋਵਰਣ ਦੇਖਿ ਲਾਜੰਤ ਅੰਗ ॥

sovaran dekh laajant ang |

ਸੋਭੰਤ ਸੀਸ ਗੰਗਾ ਤਰੰਗ ॥੪੧॥

sobhant sees gangaa tarang |41|

Even the gold feel shy before him and the waves of the Ganges seemed to surge over his head.41.

ਆਜਾਨ ਬਾਹੁ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਰੂਪ ॥

aajaan baahu alipat roop |

ਆਦਗ ਜੋਗ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ॥

aadag jog sundar saroop |

He had long arms and charming body and was a detached supreme Yogi

ਬਿਭੂਤ ਅੰਗ ਉਜਲ ਸੁ ਬਾਸ ॥

bibhoot ang ujal su baas |

ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਜੋਗ ਕਿਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥੪੨॥

saniaas jog kino prakaas |42|

When he applied the ashes to his limbs, he fragranced everyone around him and he brought to light Sannyas and Yoga in the world.42.

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਅੰਗ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

avilok ang mahimaa apaar |

ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਰਾਜ ਉਪਜਾ ਉਦਾਰ ॥

saniaas raaj upajaa udaar |

The praise of his limbs seemed boundless and he manifested himself as a generous king of the Yogis

ਅਨਭੂਤ ਗਾਤ ਆਭਾ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

anabhoot gaat aabhaa anant |

ਮੋਨੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਲਸੰਤ ॥੪੩॥

monee mahaan sobhaa lasant |43|

The brilliance of his body was infinite and from his great personality, he appeared to be a silence-observing ascetic and eminently glorious.43.

ਆਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

aabhaa apaar mahimaa anant |

ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਜ ਕਿਨੋ ਬਿਅੰਤ ॥

sanayaas raaj kino biant |

ਕਾਪਿਆ ਕਪਟੁ ਤਿਹ ਉਦੇ ਹੋਤ ॥

kaapiaa kapatt tih ude hot |

ਤਤਛਿਨ ਅਕਪਟ ਕਿਨੋ ਉਦੋਤ ॥੪੪॥

tatachhin akapatt kino udot |44|

That king of the Yogis spread his infinite greatness and glory and on his manifestation, the fraudulent tendencies trembled and he made them stingless in an instant.44.

ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਛਿਜ ਅਨਭੂਤ ਗਾਤ ॥

mahimaa achhij anabhoot gaat |

ਆਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਚਕਿ ਰਹੀ ਮਾਤ ॥

aavilok putr chak rahee maat |

Seeing his indestructible greatness and unique body, the mother remained wonder-struck

ਦੇਸਨ ਬਿਦੇਸ ਚਕਿ ਰਹੀ ਸਰਬ ॥

desan bides chak rahee sarab |

ਸੁਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਰਿਖਿਨ ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨ ਗਰਬ ॥੪੫॥

sun sarab rikhin taj deen garab |45|

All the people in counties far and near also marveled to see him and all of them abandoned their pride on listening to his greatness.45.

ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਲ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਅਕਾਸ ॥

sarabatr prayaal sarabatr akaas |

ਚਲ ਚਾਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁ ਬਾਸ ॥

chal chaal chit sundar su baas |

The whole nether-world and sky had the feeling about his comeliness which made all the creatures full of joy

ਕੰਪਾਇਮਾਨ ਹਰਖੰਤ ਰੋਮ ॥

kanpaaeimaan harakhant rom |

ਆਨੰਦਮਾਨ ਸਭ ਭਈ ਭੋਮ ॥੪੬॥

aanandamaan sabh bhee bhom |46|

Because of him, the whole earth became blissful.46.

ਥਰਹਰਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਆਕਾਸ ਸਰਬ ॥

tharaharat bhoom aakaas sarab |

ਜਹ ਤਹ ਰਿਖੀਨ ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨ ਗਰਬ ॥

jeh teh rikheen taj deen garab |

The sky and the earth all quivered and the sages here and there abandoned their pride

ਬਾਜੇ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਗੈਨ ॥

baaje bajantr anek gain |

ਦਸ ਦਿਉਸ ਪਾਇ ਦਿਖੀ ਨ ਰੈਣ ॥੪੭॥

das diaus paae dikhee na rain |47|

On his manifestation, many instruments (musical) were played in the sky and for ten days, the presence o f night was not felt.47.

ਜਹ ਤਹ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

jeh teh bajantr baaje anek |

ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਜਾਣੁ ਬਪੁ ਧਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥

pragattiaa jaan bap dhar bibek |

Many musical instruments were played here and there and it appeared that the discriminating intellect had assumed a body itself

ਸੋਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਬਰਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

sobhaa apaar baranee na jaae |

ਉਪਜਿਆ ਆਨ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਇ ॥੪੮॥

aupajiaa aan sanayaas raae |48|

His glory is indescribable and he manifested himself as the king of ‘Sannyas’.48.

ਜਨਮੰਤ ਲਾਗਿ ਉਠ ਜੋਗ ਕਰਮ ॥

janamant laag utth jog karam |

ਹਤਿ ਕੀਓ ਪਾਪ ਪਰਚੁਰਿਓ ਧਰਮ ॥

hat keeo paap parachurio dharam |

Even on taking birth, he absorbed himself in actions of Yogs

ਰਾਜਾਧਿਰਾਜ ਬਡ ਲਾਗ ਚਰਨ ॥

raajaadhiraaj badd laag charan |

ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਜੋਗ ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗ ਕਰਨ ॥੪੯॥

saniaas jog utth laag karan |49|

And he, destroying sins, propagated Dharma the great Sovereign fell at his feet and getting up, they practiced Sannyas and Yoga.49.

ਅਤਿਭੁਤਿ ਅਨੂਪ ਲਖਿ ਦਤ ਰਾਇ ॥

atibhut anoop lakh dat raae |

ਉਠਿ ਲਗੇ ਪਾਇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਰਬ ਆਇ ॥

autth lage paae nrip sarab aae |

Seeing the unique king Dutt, all the king bowed respectfully at his feet

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਦਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

avilok dat mahimaa mahaan |

ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੫੦॥

das chaar chaar bidiaa nidhaan |50|

Seeing the greatness of Dutt, it appeared that he was the store of eighteen sciences.50.

ਸੋਭੰਤ ਸੀਸ ਜਤ ਕੀ ਜਟਾਨ ॥

sobhant sees jat kee jattaan |

ਨਖ ਨੇਮ ਕੇ ਸੁ ਬਢਏ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

nakh nem ke su badte mahaan |

On his head, there were the matted locks of his celibacy and on his hands grew the nails of observances

ਬਿਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਉਜਲ ਸੋ ਸੋਹ ॥

bibhram bibhoot ujal so soh |

ਦਿਜ ਚਰਜ ਤੁਲਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਚਰਮ ਅਰੋਹ ॥੫੧॥

dij charaj tul mrig charam aroh |51|

The white ashes on his body were indicative of his state devoid of illusions his character like Brahm (Brahman) was his deer skin.51.

ਮੁਖ ਸਿਤ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਲੰਗੋਟ ਬੰਦ ॥

mukh sit bibhoot langott band |

ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਚਰਜ ਤਜਿ ਛੰਦ ਬੰਦ ॥

sanayaas charaj taj chhand band |

Having white ashes on his face and wearing loin-cloth, he was the possessor of Sannyas and conduct and relinquisher of deceit

ਆਸੁਨਕ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਅਨਵ੍ਰਯਕਤ ਅੰਗ ॥

aasunak sun anavrayakat ang |

ਆਛਿਜ ਤੇਜ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸੁਰੰਗ ॥੫੨॥

aachhij tej mahimaa surang |52|

He remained absorbed in abstract meditation and his limbs were extremely charming his radiance was indestructible.52.

ਇਕ ਆਸ ਚਿਤ ਤਜਿ ਸਰਬ ਆਸ ॥

eik aas chit taj sarab aas |

ਅਨਭੂਤ ਗਾਤ ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਦਾਸ ॥

anabhoot gaat nis din udaas |

In his mind there was only one desire of Sannyas and Yoga and for this desire he had abandoned all other desires

ਮੁਨਿ ਚਰਜ ਲੀਨ ਤਜਿ ਸਰਬ ਕਾਮ ॥

mun charaj leen taj sarab kaam |

ਆਰਕਤਿ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਜਨੁ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮ ॥੫੩॥

aarakat netr jan dharam dhaam |53|

His body was unique and during day and night, he remained detached from the deceits of the world leaving the desires of all kinds, he had adopted the character of sages his eyes were red and were the store of Dharma.53.

ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤ ਅਣਡੋਲ ਅੰਗ ॥

abikaar chit anaddol ang |

ਜੁਤ ਧਿਆਨ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਭੰਗ ॥

jut dhiaan netr mahimaa abhang |

He had a pure mind, devoid of vices, and he meditated with his non-mercurial eyes

ਧਰਿ ਏਕ ਆਸ ਅਉਦਾਸ ਚਿਤ ॥

dhar ek aas aaudaas chit |

ਸੰਨਿਯਾਸ ਦੇਵ ਪਰਮੰ ਪਵਿਤ ॥੫੪॥

saniyaas dev paraman pavit |54|

His praise was infinite having only one desire in his mind of adopting Sannyas from all sides he was the greatest among the immaculate Sannyasis.54.

ਅਵਧੂਤ ਗਾਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

avadhoot gaat mahimaa apaar |

ਸ੍ਰੁਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਉਦਾਰ ॥

srut giaan sindh bidiaa udaar |

He had a body of Yogis, whose greatness was infinite and he was the store of the knowledge of Shrutis (Vedas) and extremely generous

ਮੁਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਗੁਨਿ ਗਨ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

mun man prabeen gun gan mahaan |

ਜਨੁ ਭਯੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਹਾਨ ॥੫੫॥

jan bhayo param giaanee mahaan |55|

Amongst the sages, he was most skilful and great and was supremely learned.55.

ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਾਪ ਜਿਹ ਛੁਹਾ ਅੰਗ ॥

kabahoon na paap jih chhuhaa ang |

ਗੁਨਿ ਗਨ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਰੰਗ ॥

gun gan sanpan sundar surang |

The sin had not even touched him and he was elegant in virtues

ਲੰਗੋਟਬੰਦ ਅਵਧੂਤ ਗਾਤ ॥

langottaband avadhoot gaat |

ਚਕਿ ਰਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਮਾਤ ॥੫੬॥

chak rahee chit avalok maat |56|

The Yogi Dutt wore loin-cloth and seeing him, mother was wonder-struck.56.

ਸੰਨਿਯਾਸ ਦੇਵ ਅਨਭੂਤ ਅੰਗ ॥

saniyaas dev anabhoot ang |

ਲਾਜੰਤ ਦੇਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਦੁਤਿ ਅਨੰਗ ॥

laajant dekh jih dut anang |

Seeing the greatest Sannyasi Dutt, having comely limbs, even the god of love felt shy

ਮੁਨਿ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਜ ॥

mun dat dev sanayaas raaj |

ਜਿਹ ਸਧੇ ਸਰਬ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਸਾਜ ॥੫੭॥

jih sadhe sarab sanayaas saaj |57|

The sage Dutt was the king of Sannyasis and he had practiced all kinds of the activities of Sannyas.57.

ਪਰਮੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ॥

paraman pavitr jaa ke sareer |

ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਕਾਮ ਕਿਨੋ ਅਧੀਰ ॥

kabahoon na kaam kino adheer |

His body was immaculate, which had never been troubled by lust

ਜਟ ਜੋਗ ਜਾਸੁ ਸੋਭੰਤ ਸੀਸ ॥

jatt jog jaas sobhant sees |

ਅਸ ਧਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੰਨਿਯਾਸ ਈਸ ॥੫੮॥

as dharaa roop saniyaas ees |58|

On his head there was a tuft of matted locks such a form was adopted by Dutt, the incarnation of Rudra.58.

ਆਭਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਥਿ ਸਕੈ ਕਉਨ ॥

aabhaa apaar kath sakai kaun |

ਸੁਨਿ ਰਹੈ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਮਉਨ ॥

sun rahai jachh gandhrab maun |

Who can describe his fine glory ? And listening to his appreciation, the Yakshas and Gandharvas become silent

ਚਕਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਭਾ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥

chak rahio braham aabhaa bichaar |

ਲਾਜਯੋ ਅਨੰਗ ਆਭਾ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੫੯॥

laajayo anang aabhaa nihaar |59|

Brahma was also wonder-struck to see his glory and even the god of love felt shy on seeing his beauty.59.

ਅਤਿ ਗਿਆਨਵੰਤ ਕਰਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥

at giaanavant karaman prabeen |

ਅਨ ਆਸ ਗਾਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਅਧੀਨ ॥

an aas gaat har ko adheen |

He was extremely learned, expert in actions, beyond the desires and obedient to the Lord

ਛਬਿ ਦਿਪਤ ਕੋਟ ਸੂਰਜ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥

chhab dipat kott sooraj pramaan |

ਚਕ ਰਹਾ ਚੰਦ ਲਖਿ ਆਸਮਾਨ ॥੬੦॥

chak rahaa chand lakh aasamaan |60|

His elegance was like the crores of suns and the moon was also wonder-struck on seeing him.60.

ਉਪਜਿਯਾ ਆਪ ਇਕ ਜੋਗ ਰੂਪ ॥

aupajiyaa aap ik jog roop |

ਪੁਨਿ ਲਗੋ ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧਨ ਅਨੂਪ ॥

pun lago jog saadhan anoop |

He had manifested as the apparent form of yoga and then had been absorbed in the practice of Yoga

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਛਾਡਿ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਾ ਦਤ ॥

grih pritham chhaadd utth chalaa dat |

ਪਰਮੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ਮਤਿ ॥੬੧॥

paraman pavitr niramalee mat |61|

That immaculate Dutt of pure intellect did the first thing of leaving his home.61.

ਜਬ ਕੀਨ ਜੋਗ ਬਹੁ ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥

jab keen jog bahu din pramaan |

ਤਬ ਕਾਲ ਦੇਵ ਰੀਝੇ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥

tab kaal dev reejhe nidaan |

When he practiced Yoga for a long time, Kaldev (the Lord) was pleased with him

ਇਮਿ ਭਈ ਬਿਓਮ ਬਾਨੀ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

eim bhee biom baanee banaae |

ਤੁਮ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਬੈਨ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸ ਰਾਇ ॥੬੨॥

tum sunahu bain sanayaas raae |62|

At that time, there was a heavenly voice “O king of Yogis! Listen to what I say.”62.
