ਬਹੁਰੋ ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਘਨ ਸੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਰਖਿਯੋ ਸਰ ਬੂੰਦਨ ਜਿਉ ਮਗਵਾ ॥

bahuro ghan sayaam ghan sur kai barakhiyo sar boondan jiau magavaa |

ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਚਮੂੰ ਹਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਬਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਰਨ ਈਗਰ ਕੇ ਰੰਗਵਾ ॥

chaturang chamoon han sraun bahiyo su bheo ran eegar ke rangavaa |

Krishna is thundering like clouds and his arrows are being showered like the drops of water, with the flowing of the blood of all the four divisions of the army, the battlefield has become red

ਕਹੂੰ ਮੁੰਡ ਝਰੇ ਰਥ ਪੁੰਜ ਢਰੇ ਗਜ ਸੁੰਡ ਪਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਹੈ ਤੰਗਵਾ ॥

kahoon mundd jhare rath punj dtare gaj sundd pare kahoon hai tangavaa |

Somewhere the skulls are lying, somewhere there are heaps of chariots and somewhere there are the trunks of the elephants

ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਜੁ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਤੀਰ ਹਨੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਬੀਰ ਗਿਰੇ ਸੁ ਕਹੂੰ ਅੰਗਵਾ ॥੧੦੫੫॥

jadubeer ju kop kai teer hane kahoon beer gire su kahoon angavaa |1055|

In great fury, Krishna caused the rain of arrows, somewhere the warriors have fallen and somewhere their limbs are lying scattered.1

ਬਹੁ ਜੂਝਿ ਪਰੇ ਛਿਤ ਪੈ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਅਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

bahu joojh pare chhit pai bhatt yau ar kai bar kai har siau lar kai |

The warriors, having fought bravely with Krishna, are lying on the ground

ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਰਨ ਬੀਚ ਇਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

dhan baan kripaan gadaa geh paan gire ran beech itee kar kai |

Holding their bows, arrows, swords, maces etc., the warriors have expired fighting till the end

ਤਿਹ ਮਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਮਵਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੁਇ ਗੀਧ ਸੁ ਮੋਨ ਰਹੀ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

tih maas giraas mavaas udaas hue geedh su mon rahee dhar kai |

The vultures are sitting sadly and silently while devouring their flesh

ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਬੁਟੀਆ ਬਰ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੀ ਨ ਪਚੀ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਬਰਿ ਕੈ ਫਰਿਕੈ ॥੧੦੫੬॥

su mano butteea bar beeran kee na pachee ur mai bar kai farikai |1056|

It seems that the pieves of the flesh of these warriors are not being digested by these vultures.1056.

ਅਸਿ ਕੋਪਿ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਪਾਨਿ ਲੀਯੋ ਸੁ ਧਸਿਯੋ ਦਲ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਰੋਸ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥

as kop halaayudh paan leeyo su dhasiyo dal mai at ros bhariyo |

Balram in great rage took his weapons in his hand and penetrated into the ranks of the enemy

ਬਹੁ ਬੀਰ ਹਨੇ ਰਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਨਾਪਤਿ ਤੇ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥

bahu beer hane ran bhoom bikhai pratanaapat te na ratee ku ddariyo |

Without any fear of the general of the enemy’s army, he killed many warriors

ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਰਥੀ ਅਰੁ ਪਤਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਹਨਿ ਕੈ ਉਨ ਬੀਰਨ ਤੇਜ ਹਰਿਯੋ ॥

gaj baaj rathee ar pat chamoon han kai un beeran tej hariyo |

He made lifeless the elephants, horses and charioteers by killing them

ਜਿਮ ਤਾਤ ਧਰਾ ਸੁਰਪਤਿ ਲਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਲੀ ਇਮ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੫੭॥

jim taat dharaa surapat lariyo har bhraat balee im judh kariyo |1057|

Just as Indra wages a war, in the same manner Balram, the powerful brother of Krishna waged the war.1057.

ਜੁਧ ਜੁਰੇ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਸਖਾ ਕਿਧੋ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਭਰੇ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਸੋਹੈ ॥

judh jure jaduraae sakhaa kidho krodh bhare durajodhan sohai |

ਭੀਰ ਪਰੇ ਰਨਿ ਰਾਵਨ ਸੋ ਸੁਤ ਰਾਵਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਕੋ ਹੈ ॥

bheer pare ran raavan so sut raavan ko tih kee sam ko hai |

Balram, the brother of Krishna is waging the war like Duryodhana filled with anger or like Meghnad, the son of Ravana in the Ram-Ravana war

ਭੀਖਮ ਸੋ ਮਰਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਹੈ ਲਰਿਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਬਲੀ ਬਰਿ ਜੋ ਹੈ ॥

bheekham so marabe kahu hai laribe kahu raam balee bar jo hai |

It appears that the hero is going to kill Bhishama and Balram may be equal in strength to Ram

ਅੰਗਦ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਨੂ ਜਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਰੋਹੈ ॥੧੦੫੮॥

angad hai ki hanoo jam hai ki bhariyo balibhadr bhayaanak rohai |1058|

The dreadful Balbhadra appears in his fury like Angad or Hanumar.1058.

ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਕੋਪਿ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਧਾਇ ਗਯੋ ॥

drirr kai bal kop halaayudh lai ar ke dal bheetar dhaae gayo |

Highly infuriated, Balram fell upon the army of the enemy

ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਰਥੀ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਪੈਦਲ ਕੋ ਦਲੁ ਕੋਪਿ ਛਯੋ ॥

gaj baaj rathee birathee kar kai bahu paidal ko dal kop chhayo |

Many elephants, horses, charioteers, soldiers on foot etc. have come under the shade of his fury

ਕਲਿ ਨਾਰਦ ਭੂਤ ਪਿਸਾਚ ਘਨੇ ਸਿਵ ਰੀਝ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਯੋ ॥

kal naarad bhoot pisaach ghane siv reejh rahiyo ran dekh nayo |

Seeing this war Narada, ghosts, fiends and Shiva etc. are getting pleased

ਅਰਿ ਯੌ ਸਟਕੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਕੇ ਗਨ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਯੋ ॥੧੦੫੯॥

ar yau sattake mrig ke gan jayo musaleedhar maanahu singh bhayo |1059|

The enemy’s army appears like a deer and Balram like a lion.1059.

ਇਕ ਓਰਿ ਹਲਾਯੁਧ ਜੁਧ ਕਰੈ ਇਕ ਓਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਖਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

eik or halaayudh judh karai ik or gobindah khag sanbhaariyo |

On the side Balram is waging the war and on the other side Krishna has taken up the sword

ਬਾਜ ਰਥੀ ਗਜਪਤਿ ਹਨੇ ਅਤਿ ਰੋਸ ਭਰੇ ਦਲ ਕੋ ਲਲਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

baaj rathee gajapat hane at ros bhare dal ko lalakaariyo |

After killing the horses, the charioteers and the lords of the elephants, he, in great fury, has challenged the army

ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੈਥਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਰਿ ਪੁੰਜ ਬਿਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

baan kamaan gadaa geh sree har saithan siau ar punj biddaariyo |

He was chopped into bits the gathering of the enemies with his weapons including bow and arrows, mace etc.

ਮਾਰੁਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਿਧੋ ਉਮਡਿਯੋ ਦਲ ਪਾਵਸ ਮੇਘ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੬੦॥

maarut hvai ghan sayaam kidho umaddiyo dal paavas megh nivaariyo |1060|

He is killing the enemies like the clouds scattered into bits by the wing in the rainy season.1060.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਰਿਪੁ ਘਾਲ ਕਰਾਲ ਬਿਸਾਲ ਸਬੈ ਧਨੁ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

sree nand laal sadaa rip ghaal karaal bisaal sabai dhan leeno |

ਇਉ ਸਰ ਜਾਲ ਚਲੇ ਤਿਹ ਕਾਲ ਤਬੈ ਅਰਿ ਸਾਲ ਰਿਸੈ ਇਹ ਕੀਨੋ ॥

eiau sar jaal chale tih kaal tabai ar saal risai ih keeno |

When Krishna, the destroyer ever of the enemies, took his dreadful bow in his hand, the clusters of arrows emanated from it and the heart of the enemies got highly enraged

ਘਾਇਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਿਰੀ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਚਮੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਤ ਭੀਨੋ ॥

ghaaein sang giree chaturang chamoon sabh ko tan sraunat bheeno |

All the four divisions of the army fell down wounded and the bodies were steeped in blood

ਮਾਨਹੁ ਪੰਦ੍ਰਸਵੋ ਬਿਧ ਨੇ ਸੁ ਰਚਿਯੋ ਰੰਗ ਆਰੁਨ ਲੋਕ ਨਵੀਨੋ ॥੧੦੬੧॥

maanahu pandrasavo bidh ne su rachiyo rang aarun lok naveeno |1061|

It seemed that the Providence has created this world in red colour.1061.

ਬ੍ਰਿਜਭੂਖਨ ਦੂਖਨ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਸਾਥ ਰਿਸੈ ਅਤਿ ਮਾਨ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥

brijabhookhan dookhan daitan ke rip saath risai at maan bhariyo |

ਸੁ ਧਵਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਰਥ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਲਖਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਸੈਨ ਨ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥

su dhavaae tahaa rath jaae pariyo lakh daanav sain na naik ddariyo |

Krishna, the tormentor of the demons, in great rage and pride moved forward his chariot and fell upon the enemy fearlessly,

ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਚਰਿਯੋ ॥

dhan baan sanbhaar ayodhan mai har kehar kee bidh jiau bichariyo |

ਭੁਜ ਦੰਡ ਅਦੰਡਨ ਖੰਡਨ ਕੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਦਲ ਖੰਡਨਿ ਖੰਡ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੬੨॥

bhuj dandd adanddan khanddan kai ris kai dal khanddan khandd kariyo |1062|

Holding his bow and arrows, he moved like a lion in the battlefield and with the strength of his arms, furiously began to shop the forces of the enemy.1062.

ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਬੀਚ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਲਯੋ ॥

madhusoodan beech ayodhan ke bahuro kar mai dhan baan layo |

ਸੁ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਤਬੈ ਰਨ ਬੀਚ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਹਨਿ ਸੈਨ ਦਯੋ ॥

su nisank tabai ran beech pariyo ar ko bar kai han sain dayo |

Krishna again took his bow and arrows in his hand and destroyed the enemy’s army in the battlefield

ਧਨੁ ਸੋ ਜਿਮ ਤੂਲਿ ਧੁਨੈ ਧੁਨੀਯਾ ਦਲ ਤ੍ਰਯੋ ਸਿਤ ਬਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਧੁਨਿਯੋ ॥

dhan so jim tool dhunai dhuneeyaa dal trayo sit baanan so dhuniyo |

Just as the carder of cotton cards it, in the same manner Krishna carded the enemy’s army

ਬਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਬਹਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਮਨੋ ਆਠਵੋ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਭਯੋ ॥੧੦੬੩॥

bahu sraun pravaah bahiyo ran mai tih tthaa mano aatthavo sindh bhayo |1063|

The stream of blood swelled in the battlefield like the eighth ocean.1063.

ਇਤ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਉਮਡੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਨਾ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਉਮਡਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਲੈ ਬਲ ਸੰਗਾ ॥

eit te har kee umaddee pratanaa ut te umaddiyo nrip lai bal sangaa |

On this side the army of Krishna marched forward and on the other side the king Jarasandh moved forward alongwith his forces

ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਲੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਭਿਰੇ ਕਟਿ ਗੇ ਭਟਿ ਅੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਤੰਗਾ ॥

baan kamaan kripaan lai paan bhire katt ge bhatt ang pratangaa |

The warriors fought taking bow and arrows and swords in their hands and their limbs were being chopped

ਪਤਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਗਜਿ ਬਾਜ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਹੂੰ ਬੀਰ ਗਿਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਅੰਗਾ ॥

pat gire gaj baaj kahoon kahoon beer gire tin ke kahoon angaa |

Somewhere the lords of elephants and horses fell and somewhere the limbs of warriors began to fall

ਐਸੇ ਗਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਪਸਿ ਮੈ ਦਲ ਜੈਸੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਗੰਗਾ ॥੧੦੬੪॥

aise ge mil aapas mai dal jaise mile jamunaa ar gangaa |1064|

Both the armies were locked in a close combat like the merger into one by the Ganges and Yamuna.1064.

ਸ੍ਵਾਮਿ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਕਉ ਲਾਜ ਭਰੇ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਉਮਗੇ ਹੈ ॥

svaam ke kaaj kau laaj bhare duhoon oran te bhatt yau umage hai |

In order to fulfil the task assigned to them by their masters, the warriors of both the sides are enthusiastically moving forward

ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਕੋਪਿ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਰਸ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਪੁਨਿ ਸੰਗ ਪਗੇ ਹੈ ॥

judh kariyo ran kop duhoon ras rudr hee ke pun sang page hai |

From both the sides, the warriors dyed with ire are ferociously waging war,

ਜੂਝਿ ਪਰੇ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਛਿਤ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਗ ਭਗੇ ਹੈ ॥

joojh pare samuhe lar kai ran kee chhit te nahee paig bhage hai |

And confronting one another are fighting unhesitatingly

ਉਜਲ ਗਾਤ ਮੈ ਸਾਗ ਲਗੀ ਮਨੋ ਚੰਦਨ ਰੂਖ ਮੈ ਨਾਗ ਲਗੇ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੬੫॥

aujal gaat mai saag lagee mano chandan rookh mai naag lage hai |1065|

The spears piercing the white bodies appear like the serpents entwining the sandalwood tree.1065.

ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਰਿਸ ਆਪਸਿ ਮੈ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਟਰੇ ॥

judh kariyo ris aapas mai duhoon oran te nahee koaoo ttare |

From both sides, the warriors fought bravely with great anger and none of them retraced his steps

ਬਰਛੀ ਗਹਿ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਟਰੇ ॥

barachhee geh baan kamaan gadaa as lai kar mai ih bhaat ttare |

They are fighting quite nicely with spears, bows, arrows, maces, swords etc, someone is falling down while fighting,

ਕੋਊ ਜੂਝਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਕੋਊ ਰੀਝਿ ਭਿਰੇ ਛਿਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਡਰੇ ਕੋਊ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ॥

koaoo joojh gire koaoo reejh bhire chhit dekh ddare koaoo dhaae pare |

Someone is getting pleased, someone seems frightened by viewing the battlefield and someone is running

ਮਨਿ ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਰਨ ਦੀਪ ਕੇ ਊਪਰ ਆਇ ਪਤੰਗ ਜਰੇ ॥੧੦੬੬॥

man yau upajee upamaa ran deep ke aoopar aae patang jare |1066|

The poet says that it appears that the warriors like moths are getting burnt on the battlefield like the earthen lamp.1066.

ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਭਿਰਿਯੋ ਬਰਛੀ ਬਰ ਲੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥

prithame sang baan kamaan bhiriyo barachhee bar lai pun bhraat muraaree |

Balram fought earlier with bow and arrows and then he began the fight, taking his spear in his hand

ਫੇਰਿ ਲਰਿਯੋ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਧਸ ਕੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੀ ਬਹੁ ਸੈਨ ਸੰਘਾਰੀ ॥

fer lariyo as lai kar mai dhas kai rip kee bahu sain sanghaaree |

Then he took the sword in his hand, killed the warriors penetrating in the army,

ਫੇਰਿ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਹਤੇ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥

fer gadaa geh kai su hate bahuro ju hute geh paan kattaaree |

Then holding his dagger, he knocked down warriors with his mace

ਐਚਤ ਯੌ ਹਲ ਸੋ ਦਲ ਕੋ ਜਿਮ ਖੈਚਤ ਦੁਇ ਕਰਿ ਝੀਵਰ ਜਾਰੀ ॥੧੦੬੭॥

aichat yau hal so dal ko jim khaichat due kar jheevar jaaree |1067|

Balram is pulling the enemy’s army with his plough like the palanquin-bearer making effort to putt the water with both the hands.1067.

ਜੋ ਭਟ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਇ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਬਰ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਸੋਊ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥

jo bhatt saamuhe aae ariyo bar kai har joo soaoo maar giraayo |

ਲਾਜ ਭਰੇ ਜੋਊ ਜੋਰਿ ਭਿਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

laaj bhare joaoo jor bhire tin te koaoo jeevat jaan na paayo |

Any warrior who came in front of him, Krishna knocked his down he, who getting shy of his weakness, fought with great force, he also could not survive

ਪੈਠਿ ਤਬੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਨਾ ਅਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਧਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਘਨੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥

paitth tabai pratanaa ar kee madh sayaam ghano pun judh machaayo |

Penetrating into enemy’s forces, Krishna fought a violent battle

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸੁ ਧੀਰ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਦਲੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਗਾਯੋ ॥੧੦੬੮॥

sree balabeer su dheer gahiyo rip ko sab hee dal maar bhagaayo |1068|

Balram also fought with endurance and knocked down the enemy’s army.1068.
