ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

aasaa mahalaa 3 |

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

sun man man vasaae toon aape aae milai mere bhaaee |

Listen, O mortal: enshrine His Name within your mind; He shall come to meet with you, O my Sibling of Destiny.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥

anadin sachee bhagat kar sachai chit laaee |1|

Night and day, center your consciousness on true devotional worship of the True Lord. ||1||

ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

eko naam dhiaae toon sukh paaveh mere bhaaee |

Meditate on the One Naam, and you shall find peace, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

haumai doojaa door kar vaddee vaddiaaee |1| rahaau |

Eradicate egotism and duality, and your glory shall be glorious. ||1||Pause||

ਇਸੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੋ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

eis bhagatee no sur nar mun jan lochade vin satigur paaee na jaae |

The angels, humans and silent sages long for this devotional worship, but without the True Guru, it cannot be attained.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਦੇ ਜੋਤਿਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

panddit parrade jotikee tin boojh na paae |2|

The Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers read their books, but they do not understand. ||2||

ਆਪੈ ਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

aapai thai sabh rakhion kichh kehan na jaaee |

He Himself keeps all in His Hand; nothing else can be said.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥

aape dee su paaeeai gur boojh bujhaaee |3|

Whatever He gives, is received. The Guru has imparted this understanding to me. ||3||

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

jeea jant sabh tis de sabhanaa kaa soee |

All beings and creatures are His; He belongs to all.

ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥

mandaa kis no aakheeai je doojaa hoee |4|

So who can we call bad, since there is no other? ||4||

ਇਕੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਏਕਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥

eiko hukam varatadaa ekaa sir kaaraa |

The Command of the One Lord is pervading throughout; duty to the One Lord is upon the heads of all.

ਆਪਿ ਭਵਾਲੀ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥

aap bhavaalee diteean antar lobh vikaaraa |5|

He Himself has led them astray, and placed greed and corruption within their hearts. ||5||

ਇਕ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਬੂਝਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

eik aape guramukh keetian boojhan veechaaraa |

He has sanctified those few Gurmukhs who understand Him, and reflect upon Him.

ਭਗਤਿ ਭੀ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੬॥

bhagat bhee onaa no bakhaseean antar bhanddaaraa |6|

He grants devotional worship to them, and within them is the treasure. ||6||

ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥

giaaneea no sabh sach hai sach sojhee hoee |

The spiritual teachers know nothing but the Truth; they obtain true understanding.

ਓਇ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਨ ਭੁਲਨੑੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੭॥

oe bhulaae kisai de na bhulanaee sach jaanan soee |7|

They are led astray by Him, but they do not go astray, because they know the True Lord. ||7||

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪੰਚ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਪੰਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

ghar meh panch varatade panche veechaaree |

Within the homes of their bodies, the five passions are pervading, but here, the five are well-behaved.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੭॥

naanak bin satigur vas na aavanaee naam haumai maaree |8|5|27|

O Nanak, without the True Guru, they are not overcome; through the Naam, the ego is conquered. ||8||5||27||
