ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥

Salok, Fourth Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥

manamukh praanee mugadh hai naamaheen bharamaae |

The self-willed manmukh is foolish; he wanders around without the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

bin gur manooaa naa ttikai fir fir joonee paae |

Without the Guru, his mind is not held steady, and he is reincarnated, over and over again.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥

har prabh aap deaal hohi taan satigur miliaa aae |

But when the Lord God Himself becomes merciful to him, then the True Guru comes to meet him.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

jan naanak naam salaeh too janam maran dukh jaae |1|

O servant Nanak, praise the Naam; the pains of birth and death shall come to an end. ||1||
