ਕਿਆ ਪੜੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨੀਐ ॥

What use is it to read, and what use is it to study?

ਕਿਆ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਸੁਨੀਐ ॥

kiaa bed puraanaan suneeai |

What use is it to listen to the Vedas and the Puraanas?

ਪੜੇ ਸੁਨੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥

parre sune kiaa hoee |

What use is reading and listening,

ਜਉ ਸਹਜ ਨ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥

jau sehaj na milio soee |1|

if celestial peace is not attained? ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਸਿ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥

har kaa naam na japas gavaaraa |

The fool does not chant the Name of the Lord.

ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚਹਿ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kiaa socheh baaran baaraa |1| rahaau |

So what does he think of, over and over again? ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਚਹੀਐ ॥

andhiaare deepak chaheeai |

In the darkness, we need a lamp

ਇਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਲਹੀਐ ॥

eik basat agochar laheeai |

to find the incomprehensible thing.

ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਾਈ ॥

basat agochar paaee |

I have found this incomprehensible thing;

ਘਟਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

ghatt deepak rahiaa samaaee |2|

my mind is illuminated and enlightened. ||2||

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

keh kabeer ab jaaniaa |

Says Kabeer, now I know Him;

ਜਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

jab jaaniaa tau man maaniaa |

since I know Him, my mind is pleased and appeased.

ਮਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਲੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥

man maane log na pateejai |

My mind is pleased and appeased, and yet, people do not believe it.

ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੭॥

n pateejai tau kiaa keejai |3|7|

They do not believe it, so what can I do? ||3||7||
