ਊਚ ਕਦੰਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਤਰੁ ਥੋ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਚੜਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੂਦ ਪਰਿਓ ॥
aooch kadameh ko tar tho tih pai charr kai har kood pario |
Ascending the Kadamb-tree, Krishna jumped in the tank from its height
ਤਿਨ ਸੰਕ ਕਰੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਫੁਨਿ ਧੀਰਜ ਗਾਢ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਟਰਿਓ ॥
tin sank karee man mai na kachhoo fun dheeraj gaadt dhariyo na ttario |
He did not fear even a little and moved patiently
ਮਨੁਖੋਸਤ ਲੌ ਜਲ ਉਚ ਭਯੋ ਨਿਕਸਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਨਾਗ ਬਡੋ ਨ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
manukhosat lau jal uch bhayo nikasiyo tab naag baddo na ddariyo |
The water arose to sevenfold height of man and from that, the Naga appeared but Krishna even then was not frightened at all
ਪਟ ਪੀਤ ਧਰੇ ਤਨ ਪੈ ਨਰ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੦੮॥
patt peet dhare tan pai nar dekh mahaa bal kai tin judh kariyo |208|
When the Naga saw a man riding upon him, he began to fight.208.
ਬਾਧ ਲਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਸੋ ਕਰ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਕਿਧੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਕਾਟੇ ॥
baadh layo har ko tan so kar krudh kidho tih ko tan kaatte |
He intertwined Krishna, who in great furyu, chopped its body
ਢੀਲੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਹੁਇ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਪਿਖਿ ਯਾ ਰਨ ਕੇ ਹੀਯਰੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਫਾਟੇ ॥
dteelo rahiyo hue pai har jee pikh yaa ran ke heeyare fun faatte |
The grasp of the snake on Krishna loosened, but the viewers held great fear in their hearts
ਰੋਵਤ ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਪਤਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਠੋਕਤ ਮੂੰਡ ਉਖਾਰਤ ਝਾਟੇ ॥
rovat aavat hai patanee brij tthokat moondd ukhaarat jhaatte |
The ladies of the Braja village started moving towards that side pulling their hair and carding their heads,
ਆਇ ਹੈ ਮਾਰ ਉਸੈ ਨਹੀ ਰੋਵਹੁ ਨੰਦ ਇਹੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਨ ਡਾਟੇ ॥੨੦੯॥
aae hai maar usai nahee rovahu nand ihai keh kai in ddaatte |209|
But Nand reprimanded them saying, “Do not weep, O people! Krishna will return only on killing him.”209.
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹਿ ਲਪੇਟ ਬਡੋ ਵਹ ਪੰਨਗ ਫੂਕਤ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਹਿ ਕੈਸੇ ॥
kaanreh lapett baddo veh panag fookat hai kar krudheh kaise |
Intertwining Krishna, that huge snake began to hiss in great rage
ਜਿਉ ਧਨ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਗਏ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਝੂਰਤ ਲੇਤ ਉਸਾਸਨ ਤੈਸੇ ॥
jiau dhan paatr ge dhan te at jhoorat let usaasan taise |
The serpent was hissing like a moneylender sighing on the loss of his cash-box
ਬੋਲਤ ਜਿਉ ਧਮੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੈ ਸੁਰ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਸਵਾਸ ਭਰੇ ਵਹ ਐਸੇ ॥
bolat jiau dhameea har mai sur kai madh savaas bhare veh aise |
ਭੂਭਰ ਬੀਚ ਪਰੇ ਜਲ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੋਤ ਮਹਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੨੧੦॥
bhoobhar beech pare jal jiau tih te fun hot mahaa dhun jaise |210|
That snake was breathing like a resounding drum or his voice was like that of a great whirlpool in water.210.
ਚਕ੍ਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਾਰ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਇਹ ਨਾਗੈ ॥
chakrat hoe rahe brij baalak maar le har jee ih naagai |
ਦਛਨ ਤੀਅ ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਲਗੈ ਦੁਖ ਅਉ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
dachhan teea bhujaa geh kai ih mat lagai dukh aau sukh bhaagai |
The boys of Braja were seeing all this in wonder and catching the arms of one another, they were thinking that Krishna should kill the snake in any way
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਸਭੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਕਉਤਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਲਯੋ ਇਹ ਆਗੈ ॥
khojat khojat sabhai brij ke jan kautak dekh layo ih aagai |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮਹਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਡੋ ਅਹਿ ਕਾਟਤ ਜਿਉ ਰੁਚ ਕੈ ਨਰ ਖਾਵਤ ਸਾਗੈ ॥੨੧੧॥
sayaameh sayaam baddo eh kaattat jiau ruch kai nar khaavat saagai |211|
All the men and women of Braja were seeing this wonderful spectacle and on this side black snake was biting Krishna like a person eating his food with relish.211.
ਰੋਵਨ ਲਾਗ ਜਬੈ ਜਸੁਦਾ ਚੁਪ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਰਾਵਤ ਪੈ ਜੁ ਅਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
rovan laag jabai jasudaa chup taeh karaavat pai ju alee hai |
ਦੈਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਨਾਵ੍ਰਤ ਅਉਰ ਬਕੀ ਵ ਬਕਾਸੁਰ ਹਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
dait trinaavrat aaur bakee v bakaasur hane ih kaanrah balee hai |
When Yashoda also began to weep, her friends consoled her saying, “Don’t be anxious at all, Krishna has killed demons like Tranavrata, Baki and Bakasura etc. Krishna is extremely powerful
ਆਇ ਹੈ ਮਾਰ ਅਬੈ ਇਹ ਸਾਪਹਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਉਠਿਓ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਹਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
aae hai maar abai ih saapeh bol utthio ih bhaat halee hai |
ਤੋਰ ਡਰੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਕੇ ਫਨਿ ਪੈ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਜੋਰ ਛਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੨੧੨॥
tor ddarai sabh hee ih ke fan pai karunaa nidh jor chhalee hai |212|
“He will come back after killing the snake,” on the other side, Krishna destroyed all the hoods of that snake with his power.212.
