Speech of Sumitra, Addressed to Lakshman :

ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਭਾਵ ਧਰੇ ਰਹੀਯੋ ਸੁਤ ਮਾਤ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੀਆ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੋ ॥

daas ko bhaav dhare raheeyo sut maat saroop seea pahichaano |

ਤਾਤ ਕੀ ਤੁਲਿ ਸੀਆਪਤਿ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਸਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੋ ॥

taat kee tul seeaapat kau kar kai ih baat sahee kar maano |

“O son! always live like a servant (with your brother) and consider Sita as your mother and her husband Ram as your father and always keep these rightful facts in your mind.

ਜੇਤਕ ਕਾਨਨ ਕੇ ਦੁਖ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਸੋ ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਤਨ ਪੈ ਅਨਮਾਨੋ ॥

jetak kaanan ke dukh hai sabh so sukh kai tan pai anamaano |

ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਇ ਗਹੇ ਰਹੀਯੋ ਬਨ ਕੈ ਘਰ ਕੋ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਬਨੁ ਜਾਨੋ ॥੨੬੦॥

raam ke paae gahe raheeyo ban kai ghar ko ghar kai ban jaano |260|

“Endure all the troubles of the forest as comfort-like. Think always of the feet of Ram and consider the forest as home and the home as forest.”260.

ਰਾਜੀਵ ਲੋਚਨ ਰਾਮ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਚਲੇ ਬਨ ਕਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਯੋ ॥

raajeev lochan raam kumaar chale ban kau sang bhraat suhaayo |

ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਨਿਛਤ੍ਰ ਸਚੀਪਤ ਚਉਕੇ ਚਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥

dev adev nichhatr sacheepat chauke chake man mod badtaayo |

The lotus-eyed Ram moved alongwith his brother to the forest, on seeing this the gods were startled and the demons wondered,

ਆਨਨ ਬਿੰਬ ਪਰਯੋ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਪਰ ਫੈਲਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥

aanan binb parayo basudhaa par fail rahiyo fir haath na aayo |

ਬੀਚ ਅਕਾਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਤਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਮਯੰਕ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥੨੬੧॥

beech akaas nivaas keeyo tin taahee te naam mayank kahaayo |261|

And visualizing the end of demons Indra felt highly pleased, the moon also being pleased began to spread his reflection on the earth and being a resident within the sky, he became famous with the name of “Mayank.’261.
