ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਬੋਵੈ ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ॥

jaise kirasaan bovai kirasaanee |

Just like the farmer, He plants His crop,

ਕਾਚੀ ਪਾਕੀ ਬਾਢਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥

kaachee paakee baadt paraanee |1|

and, whether it is ripe or unripe, He cuts it down. ||1||

ਜੋ ਜਨਮੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਮੂਆ ॥

jo janamai so jaanahu mooaa |

Just so, you must know this well, that whoever is born, shall die.

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਭਗਤੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੈ ਥੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

govind bhagat asathir hai theea |1| rahaau |

Only the devotee of the Lord of the Universe becomes stable and permanent. ||1||Pause||

ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਸਰਪਰ ਪਉਸੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

din te sarapar pausee raat |

The day shall certainly be followed by the night.

ਰੈਣਿ ਗਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ॥੨॥

rain gee fir hoe parabhaat |2|

And when the night passes, the morning shall again dawn. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥

maaeaa mohi soe rahe abhaage |

In the love of Maya, the unfortunate ones remain in sleep.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੩॥

gur prasaad ko viralaa jaage |3|

By Guru's Grace, a rare few remain awake and aware. ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਅਹਿ ਨੀਤ ॥

kahu naanak gun gaaeeeh neet |

Says Nanak, sing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਚੀਤ ॥੪॥੧੯॥

mukh aoojal hoe niramal cheet |4|19|

Your face shall be radiant, and your consciousness shall be immaculately pure. ||4||19||
