ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਉ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ।

satigur naanak deo aap upaaeaa |

God himself created the true Guru Nanak.

ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਬਬਾਣੇ ਆਇਆ ।

gur angad gurasikh babaane aaeaa |

Becoming Sikh of the Guru, Guru Angad joined this family.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇਆ ।

gurasikh hai gur amar satigur bhaaeaa |

Liked by the true Guru, Guru Amar Das became Sikh of the Guru.

ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦਵਾਇਆ ।

raamadaas gurasikh gur sadavaaeaa |

Then Ram Das, the Sikh of the Guru came to be known as the Guru.

ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਇਆ ।

gur arajan gurasikh paragattee aaeaa |

Thereafter came Guru Arjan as the disciple of the Guru (and got established as the Guru).

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਹਰਿਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਲੁਕੈ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ।੧।

gurasikh harigovind na lukai lukaaeaa |1|

Hargobind, the Sikh of the Guru cannot remain concealed even if somebody wishes to (and this further means that all the Gurus had the same light).
