ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Prabhaatee, Fifth Mehl:

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥

gun gaavat man hoe anand |

Singing His Glorious Praises, the mind is in ecstasy.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥

aatth pehar simrau bhagavant |

Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate in remembrance on God.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਲਮਲ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

jaa kai simaran kalamal jaeh |

Remembering Him in meditation, the sins go away.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਮ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

tis gur kee ham charanee paeh |1|

I fall at the Feet of that Guru. ||1||

ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

sumat devahu sant piaare |

O beloved Saints, please bless me with wisdom;

ਸਿਮਰਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

simrau naam mohi nisataare |1| rahaau |

let me meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and be emancipated. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੀਧਾ ॥

jin gur kahiaa maarag seedhaa |

The Guru has shown me the straight path;

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੀਧਾ ॥

sagal tiaag naam har geedhaa |

I have abandoned everything else. I am enraptured with the Name of the Lord.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

tis gur kai sadaa bal jaaeeai |

I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru;

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

har simaran jis gur te paaeeai |2|

I meditate in remembrance on the Lord, through the Guru. ||2||

ਬੂਡਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

booddat praanee jin gureh taraaeaa |

The Guru carries those mortal beings across, and saves them from drowning.

ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

jis prasaad mohai nahee maaeaa |

By His Grace, they are not enticed by Maya;

ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

halat palat jin gureh savaariaa |

in this world and the next, they are embellished and exalted by the Guru.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੩॥

tis gur aoopar sadaa hau vaariaa |3|

I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru. ||3||

ਮਹਾ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇ ਕੀਆ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

mahaa mugadh te keea giaanee |

From the most ignorant, I have been made spiritually wise,

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥

gur poore kee akath kahaanee |

through the Unspoken Speech of the Perfect Guru.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

paarabraham naanak guradev |

The Divine Guru, O Nanak, is the Supreme Lord God.

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵ ॥੪॥੩॥

vaddai bhaag paaeeai har sev |4|3|

By great good fortune, I serve the Lord. ||4||3||
