ਆਗੇ ਪਾਛੇ ਦਾਹਨੇ ਘੇਰਿ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਲੀਨ ॥

aage paachhe daahane gher daso dis leen |

He was rounded up from left, right and all the directions.

ਪੈਂਡ ਭਜਨ ਕੌ ਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਾਇ ਜਤਨ ਯੌ ਕੀਨ ॥੪॥

paindd bhajan kau na rahiyo raae jatan yau keen |4|

Raja did try but he could not find any means (to escape).(4)

ਵਾ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਾਰੀ ਧਰੀ ਪਗਿਯਾ ਲਈ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥

vaa kee kar daaree dharee pagiyaa lee utaar |

People pulled his beard and took his turban off

ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਦ੍ਵੈਕ ਮੁਤਹਰੀ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੫॥

chor chor kar tih gahiyo dvaik mutaharee jhaar |5|

Calling him “thief, thief” they beat him with sticks.(5)

ਲਗੇ ਮੁਹਤਰੀ ਕੇ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੂਰਛਨਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

lage muhataree ke giriyo bhoom moorachhanaa khaae |

With the beating of sticks, he fell flat and became unconscious.

ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨਰ ਲਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਕੈ ਲਈ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੬॥

bhed na kaahoon nar lahiyo musakai lee charraae |6|

People without understanding the real issue, tied him up with a rope.(6)

ਲਾਤ ਮੁਸਟ ਬਾਜਨ ਲਗੀ ਸਿਖ︀ਯ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਆਇ ॥

laat musatt baajan lagee sikhay pahunche aae |

They were throwing punches and kicks when the Sikhs arrived, too.

ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਛੁਰਾਇ ॥੭॥

bhraat bhraat triy keh rahee koaoo na sakiyo chhuraae |7|

The woman shouted, “brother, brother,” but could not rescue him.(7)
