ਧਰਿ ਖੋਪਰ ਸਿਰ ਪਰ ਨਦੀ ਤਰਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਡਰ ਸੋਇ ॥

dhar khopar sir par nadee tariyo nripat ddar soe |

With shell on the head, he went across swimming.

ਦਿਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਗਯੋ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕੋਇ ॥੭॥

din logan dekhat gayo bhed na jaanat koe |7|

People kept on watching but could not fathom.(7)

ਤਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਿਯੈ ਬਚਨ ਰਸਾਲ ॥

tab raanee aise kahiyo suniyai bachan rasaal |

Then Rani said (to Raja), ‘Please listen to me,

ਬਹਤ ਜਾਤ ਤਰਬੂਜ ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਦਰਹਾਲ ॥੮॥

behat jaat tarabooj jo mohi milai darahaal |8|

‘The melon, which is floating, is needed by me.’(8)

ਬਚਨੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਬੈ ਪਠਏ ਮਨੁਖ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

bachan sunat raajaa tabai patthe manukh anek |

Conceding (to her request), Raja despatched a few men.

ਜਾਤ ਬਹੇ ਤਰਬੂਜ ਕੌ ਪਹੁਚਤ ਭਯੋ ਨ ਏਕ ॥੯॥

jaat bahe tarabooj kau pahuchat bhayo na ek |9|

They all ran fast but could not catch the melon drifting across.(9)
