ਪੈਠਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੇ ਧਾਮ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਈ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ॥

paitth andhere dhaam meh kaadt lee karavaar |

In the house when it was dark, she took the sword out,

ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਪੈ ਹਤ ਕੇ ਨਿਮਿਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਚਾਸਿਕ ਵਾਰਿ ॥੧੪॥

nij pat pai hat ke nimit kare pachaasik vaar |14|

To kill her husband she struck fifty times in the dark.(l4)

ਨਿਰਖਿ ਚਮਕ ਤਰਵਾਰ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਯਾ ਮਹਿਖ ਤਰ ਜਾਇ ॥

nirakh chamak taravaar kee durayaa mahikh tar jaae |

But, observing the glitter of the sword, he had already hidden himself under a buffalo,

ਤਨਿਕ ਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਲਾਗਨ ਦਈ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਗਯੋ ਬਚਾਇ ॥੧੫॥

tanik na brin laagan dee ih chhal gayo bachaae |15|

And cheating thus saved himself of any injuries.(15)

ਪੈਰਿ ਨਦੀ ਗਈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਆਈ ਤਹੀ ਬਹਾਇ ॥

pair nadee gee mitr ko aaee tahee bahaae |

She went and swam across the stream where she had washed away her friend.

ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਘਾਇਲ ਕਿਯਾ ਨੈਕ ਨ ਰਹੀ ਲਜਾਇ ॥੧੬॥

nij pat ko ghaaeil kiyaa naik na rahee lajaae |16|

She could not hurt her husband but she depicted no remorse.(l6)(1)
