Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
man satigur saran dhiaavaigo |
O mind, seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru, and meditate.
ਲੋਹਾ ਹਿਰਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਗੁਨੁ ਪਾਰਸ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lohaa hiran hovai sang paaras gun paaras ko hoe aavaigo |1| rahaau |
Iron is transformed into gold by touching the philosopher's stone; it takes on its qualities. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਜੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur mahaa purakh hai paaras jo laagai so fal paavaigo |
The True Guru, the Great Primal Being, is the philosopher's stone. Whoever is attached to Him receives fruitful rewards.
ਜਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਤਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
jiau gur upades tare prahilaadaa gur sevak paij rakhaavaigo |1|
Just as Prahlaad was saved by the Guru's Teachings, the Guru protects the honor of His servant. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੁ ਬਚਨੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur bachan bachan hai neeko gur bachanee amrit paavaigo |
The Word of the True Guru is the most Sublime and Noble Word. Through the Guru's Word, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained.
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਬਰੀਕਿ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਖ ਬਚਨ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
jiau anbareek amaraa pad paae satigur mukh bachan dhiaavaigo |2|
Ambreek the king was blessed with the status of immortality, meditating on the Word of the True Guru. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੁਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur saran saran man bhaaee sudhaa sudhaa kar dhiaavaigo |
The Sanctuary, the Protection and Sanctuary of the True Guru is pleasing to the mind. It is sacred and pure - meditate on it.
ਦਇਆਲ ਦੀਨ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
deaal deen bhe hai satigur har maarag panth dikhaavaigo |3|
The True Guru has become Merciful to the meek and the poor; He has shown me the Path, the Way to the Lord. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਏ ਸੇ ਥਾਪੇ ਤਿਨ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
satigur saran pe se thaape tin raakhan kau prabh aavaigo |
Those who enter the Sanctuary of the True Guru are firmly established; God comes to protect them.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਸਰੁ ਸੰਧੈ ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਲਟੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
je ko sar sandhai jan aoopar fir ulatto tisai lagaavaigo |4|
If someone aims an arrow at the Lord's humble servant, it will turn around and hit him instead. ||4||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ਦਿਵਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
har har har har har sar seveh tin daragah maan divaavaigo |
Those who bathe in the Sacred Pool of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are blessed with honor in His Court.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
guramat guramat guramat dhiaaveh har gal mil mel milaavaigo |5|
Those who meditate on the Guru's Teachings, the Guru's Instructions, the Guru's Wisdom, are united in the Lord's Union; He hugs them close in His Embrace. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
guramukh naad bed hai guramukh gur parachai naam dhiaavaigo |
The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad, The Guru's Word is the wisdom of the Vedas; coming in contact with the Guru, meditate on the Naam.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
har har roop har roopo hovai har jan kau pooj karaavaigo |6|
In the Image of the Lord, Har, Har, one becomes the Embodiment of the Lord. The Lord makes His humble servant worthy of worship. ||6||
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
saakat nar satigur nahee keea te bemukh har bharamaavaigo |
The faithless cynic does not submit to the True Guru; the Lord makes the non-believer wander in confusion.
ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰੰਗਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
lobh lehar suaan kee sangat bikh maaeaa karang lagaavaigo |7|
The waves of greed are like packs of dogs. The poison of Maya sticks to the body-skeleton. ||7||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਕਾ ਤਾਰਕੁ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
raam naam sabh jag kaa taarak lag sangat naam dhiaavaigo |
The Lord's Name is the Saving Grace of the whole world; join the Sangat, and meditate on the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੬॥ ਛਕਾ ੧ ॥
naanak raakh raakh prabh mere satasangat raakh samaavaigo |8|6| chhakaa 1 |
O my God, please protect and preserve Nanak in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; save him, and let him merge in You. ||8||6|| First Set of Six ||
