Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥

praanee kau har jas man nahee aavai |

The Praise of the Lord does not come to dwell in the minds of the mortal beings.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ahinis magan rahai maaeaa mai kahu kaise gun gaavai |1| rahaau |

Day and night, they remain engrossed in Maya. Tell me, how can they sing God's Glories? ||1||Pause||

ਪੂਤ ਮੀਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਵੈ ॥

poot meet maaeaa mamataa siau ih bidh aap bandhaavai |

In this way, they bind themselves to children, friends, Maya and possessiveness.

ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਝੂਠੋ ਇਹੁ ਜਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਾਸਿ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

mrig trisanaa jiau jhoottho ihu jag dekh taas utth dhaavai |1|

Like the deer's delusion, this world is false; and yet, beholding it, they chase after it. ||1||

ਭੁਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਾ ਕਾਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੂੜ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥

bhugat mukat kaa kaaran suaamee moorr taeh bisaraavai |

Our Lord and Master is the source of pleasures and liberation; and yet, the fool forgets Him.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਨ ਮੈ ਕੋਊ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੩॥

jan naanak kottan mai koaoo bhajan raam ko paavai |2|3|

O servant Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely anyone who attains the Lord's meditation. ||2||3||
