ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ।
gur paramesar jaaneeai sache sachaa naau dharaaeaa |
The Guru ought to be known as the Supreme Lord because only that true being has adopted the true name (of the Lord).
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸਦਾਇਆ ।
nirankaar aakaar hoe ekankaar apaar sadaaeaa |
The formless Lord has made His self known in the form of Ekaiikar, the one boundless Being.
ਏਕੰਕਾਰਹੁ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਕਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ।
ekankaarahu sabad dhun oankaar akaar banaaeaa |
From Ekanka came up Oankar, the Word vibration which further came to be known as the world, full of names and forms.
ਇਕਦੂ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਤਿਹੁਂ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਗਣਾਇਆ ।
eikadoo hoe tin dev tihun mil das avataar ganaaeaa |
From the one Lord came out three gods (Brahma-, Visnu and Mahes'a) who further got themselves counted among the ten incarnations (of the supreme Being).
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਹੈ ਓਹੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਓਨ੍ਹਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ।
aad purakh aades hai ohu vekhai onhaa nadar na aaeaa |
I salute this primal Being who sees them all but is Himself invisible.
ਸੇਖ ਨਾਗ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਾਵਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ।
sekh naag simaran karai naavaa ant biant na paaeaa |
The mythical snake (Sesanag) recites and remembers Him through His myriad names but even then knows nothing about His ultimate extent.
