ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਪੰਚਪਦਾ ॥

Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl, Panch-Padhay:

ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਧੀ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

achar charai taa sidh hoee sidhee te budh paaee |

If one eats the uneatable, then he becomes a Siddha, a being of perfect spirituality; through this perfection, he obtains wisdom.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਸਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

prem ke sar laage tan bheetar taa bhram kaattiaa jaaee |1|

When the arrow of the Lord's Love pierces his body, then his doubt is eradicated. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

mere gobid apune jan kau dehi vaddiaaee |

O my Lord of the Universe, please bless Your humble servant with glory.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

guramat raam naam paragaasahu sadaa rahahu saranaaee | rahaau |

Under Guru's Instructions, enlighten me with the Lord's Name, that I may dwell forever in Your Sanctuary. ||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥

eihu sansaar sabh aavan jaanaa man moorakh chet ajaanaa |

This whole world is engrossed in coming and going; O my foolish and ignorant mind, be mindful of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੨॥

har jeeo kripaa karahu gur melahu taa har naam samaanaa |2|

O Dear Lord, please, take pity upon me, and unite me with the Guru, that I may merge in the Lord's Name. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਥੁ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

jis kee vath soee prabh jaanai jis no dee su paae |

Only one who has it knows God; he alone has it, to whom God has given it

ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ॥੩॥

vasat anoop at agam agochar gur pooraa alakh lakhaae |3|

- so very beautiful, unapproachable and unfathomable. Through the Perfect Guru, the unknowable is known. ||3||

ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਚਾਖੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ ॥

jin ih chaakhee soee jaanai goonge kee mitthiaaee |

Only one who tastes it knows it, like the mute, who tastes the sweet candy, but cannot speak of it.

ਰਤਨੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਲੂਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਰਖੈ ਲੁਕਾਈ ॥੪॥

ratan lukaaeaa lookai naahee je ko rakhai lukaaee |4|

The jewel is concealed, but it is not concealed, even though one may try to conceal it. ||4||

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

sabh kichh teraa too antarajaamee too sabhanaa kaa prabh soee |

Everything is Yours, O Inner-knower, Searcher of hearts; You are the Lord God of all.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੫॥੯॥

jis no daat kareh so paae jan naanak avar na koee |5|9|

He alone receives the gift, unto whom You give it; O servant Nanak, there is no one else. ||5||9||
