Chaupaee

ਰੈਨਿ ਭਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥

rain bhee triy mitr bulaayo |

Another night came, the lady called her friend,

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਿ ਸੋ ਆਯੋ ॥

triy ko bhes dhaar so aayo |

Disguising himself as a woman, he came in.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਰੇ ॥

eih bidh taa so bachan uchare |

Then she told him this,

ਹਮ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਤੁਮ ਕਰੇ ॥੧੮॥

ham so bhog adhik tum kare |18|

‘You have had enough sex with me.(18)

ਨਾਰਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

naar kahiyo sun mitr hamaare |

She said, ‘listen my dear friend,

ਕਹੋ ਬਾਤ ਸੋ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੇ ॥

kaho baat so karahu payaare |

‘Listen to what I am going to tell you.

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੋਰ ਕਾਨਨ ਧਰਿ ਲੀਜਹੁ ॥

mantr mor kaanan dhar leejahu |

And listen with full ear towards me,

ਅਵਰ ਕਿਸੂ ਤਨ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਦੀਜਹੁ ॥੧੯॥

avar kisoo tan bhed na deejahu |19|

‘On the condition that you never divulge to any one.’(19)

ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਤੁਮ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਜੈਯਹੁ ॥

ek divas tum ban mai jaiyahu |

‘You go to the woods one day,

ਏਕ ਬਾਵਰੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਨੈਯਹੁ ॥

ek baavaree bheetar naiyahu |

And take bath in natural spring water.

ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਦੁਪਤਿ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਯਹੁ ॥

mohi mile jadupat yau kahiyahu |

(Tell others), ‘I have met Shri Krishna,’

ਏ ਬਚ ਭਾਖਿ ਮੌਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹਿਯਹੁ ॥੨੦॥

e bach bhaakh mauan hvai rahiyahu |20|

And then become a silent ascetic.(20)

ਤੁਮ ਜੋ ਲੋਗ ਦੇਖ ਹੈ ਆਈ ॥

tum jo log dekh hai aaee |

‘The people who would come to see you,

ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਯਹੁ ਤਿਨ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥

yau keh yahu tin bachan sunaaee |

‘You narrate to them.

ਆਨਿ ਗਾਵ ਤੇ ਬਚਨ ਕਹੈਂਗੇ ॥

aan gaav te bachan kahainge |

‘They would, no doubt, indulge in cacophony.

ਸੁਨ ਬਤਿਯਾ ਹਮ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਹੈਂਗੇ ॥੨੧॥

sun batiyaa ham chakrit rahainge |21|

‘Listening to them we would show surprise.(21)

ਚੜਿ ਝੰਪਾਨ ਸੁ ਤਹਾ ਹਮ ਐ ਹੈ ॥

charr jhanpaan su tahaa ham ai hai |

‘I would come to you sitting in a palanquin,

ਗੁਰੂ ਭਾਖਿ ਤਵ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕੈ ਹੈ ॥

guroo bhaakh tav sees jhukai hai |

‘I would bow to you considering you as my Guru.

ਲੈ ਤੋ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਘਰ ਜੈਹੋ ॥

lai to ko apane ghar jaiho |

‘Then I would bring you to my house,

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਭੋਗ ਕਮੈਹੋ ॥੨੨॥

bhaat bhaat ke bhog kamaiho |22|

Ad there we would revel in various sex plays.’(22)

ਤਵਨੈ ਜਾਰ ਤੈਸ ਹੀ ਕਿਯੋ ॥

tavanai jaar tais hee kiyo |

Her friend acted upon the way,

ਜਵਨ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਬਲਾ ਕਹਿ ਦਿਯੋ ॥

javan bhaat abalaa keh diyo |

The lady had told him..

ਭਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

bhayo praat ban maeh sidhaariyo |

(Then) next morning he went into the woods,

ਏਕ ਬਾਵਰੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੩॥

ek baavaree maeh bihaariyo |23|

And took bath in natural spring water.(23)
