Salok, Third Mehl:

ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਣਸੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ॥

daravesee ko jaanasee viralaa ko daraves |

How rare is the dervish, the Saintly renunciate, who understands renunciation.

ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਧਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥

je ghar ghar handtai mangadaa dhig jeevan dhig ves |

Cursed is the life, and cursed are the clothes, of one who wanders around, begging from door to door.

ਜੇ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਉ ॥

je aasaa andesaa taj rahai guramukh bhikhiaa naau |

But, if he abandons hope and anxiety, and as Gurmukh receives the Name as his charity,

ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥

tis ke charan pakhaaleeeh naanak hau balihaarai jaau |1|

then Nanak washes his feet, and is a sacrifice to him. ||1||
