ਮੇਵਾ ਸਾਹੁਨਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਸਫ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ॥

mevaa saahun saahu lai tih saf bheetar ddaar |

Taking the fruit, the trader threw it to the sack and the woman said,

ਖਾਹਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤੂ ਭਛ ਸੁਭ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥੧੨॥

khaeh nripat too bhachh subh aise kahiyo sudhaar |12|

‘O my Raja eat it to your satisfaction.’(12)

ਸੁਨਤ ਸਾਹੁ ਚਮਕ︀ਯੋ ਬਚਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

sunat saahu chamakayo bachan triy kau kahiyo risaae |

The trader flew into rage and asked the lady, ‘Why have you called me a Raja?

ਤੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਕ︀ਯੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮੋ ਕਹੁ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਇ ॥੧੩॥

tai muhi kayo raajaa kahiyo mo kahu baat bataae |13|

‘Disclose the reason behind this.’(13)

ਧਾਮ ਰਹਤ ਤੋਰੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਤੋ ਸੌ ਨੇਹੁ ਬਢਾਇ ॥

dhaam rehat tore sukhee to sau nehu badtaae |

The woman said, ‘I live in your house. I love you and that is why

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੪॥

taa te mai raajaa kahiyo mere tum hee raae |14|

I called you a Raja. You are my Raja.’(14)

ਰੀਝ ਗਯੋ ਜੜ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਪਛਾਨਿ ॥

reejh gayo jarr baat sun bhed na sakiyo pachhaan |

The fool was satisfied without knowing the reason, became the

ਤੁਰਤਿ ਗਯੋ ਹਾਟੈ ਸੁ ਉਠਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੧੫॥

turat gayo haattai su utth adhik preet man maan |15|

ਸਾਹੁ ਗਏ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਦਯੋ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ॥

saahu ge triy saah kee nrip ko dayo nikaar |

ਸੁਨਤ ਬਾਤ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਲੌਡਿਯਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧੬॥

sunat baat at kop kai adhik lauaddiyeh maar |16|
