ੴ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹ ॥

ik oankaar vaahiguroo jee kee fatah |

The Lord is One and the Victory is of the True Guru.

ਤੁ ਈਂ ਦਸਤਗੀਰ ਅਸਤ ਦਰ ਮਾਦਗਾ ॥

tu een dasatageer asat dar maadagaa |

You are the guide of us who are trodden,

ਤੁ ਈਂ ਕਾਰ ਸਾਜ਼ ਅਸਤ ਬੇਚਾਰਗਾ ॥੧॥

tu een kaar saaz asat bechaaragaa |1|

And you are the rejuvenator of the hapless ones.(1)

ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਬਖਸ਼ਿੰਦਏ ਬੇ ਨਿਆਜ਼ ॥

shahinashaeh bakhashinde be niaaz |

You grant kingdom even to non-aspirants,

ਜ਼ਿਮੀਨੋ ਜ਼ਮਾ ਰਾ ਤੁਈਂ ਕਾਰਸਾਜ਼ ॥੨॥

zimeeno zamaa raa tueen kaarasaaz |2|

The Heaven and the Earth, all function under Your command.(2)

ਹਿਕਾਯਤ ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦੇਮ ਸ਼ਾਹੇ ਕਲਿਜੰਰ ॥

hikaayat shuneedem shaahe kalijanr |

Here now is the tale of the king of Kalandhar,

ਕੁਨਾ ਨੀਦ ਯਕ ਦਰ ਚੁ ਅਜ਼ ਕੋਹ ਮੰਜਰ ॥੩॥

kunaa need yak dar chu az koh manjar |3|

Who had built a monumental gateway.(3)

ਯਕੇ ਪਿਸਰ ਓ ਬੂਦ ਹੁਸਨੁਲ ਜਮਾਲ ॥

yake pisar o bood husanul jamaal |

He had a son who excelled in handsomeness,

ਕਿ ਲਾਯਕ ਜਹਾ ਬੂਦ ਅਜ਼ ਮੁਲਕ ਮਾਲ ॥੪॥

ki laayak jahaa bood az mulak maal |4|

And whose intellect made him worthy of managing his countries’ affairs.(4)

ਯਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਓ ਜਾਵ ਦੁਖ਼ਤਰ ਅਜ਼ੋ ॥

yake shaeh o jaav dukhatar azo |

At the same place, there was a daughter of a tycoon,

ਕਿ ਦੀਗਰ ਨ ਜ਼ਨ ਬੂਦ ਸਮਨ ਬਰ ਕਜ਼ੋ ॥੫॥

ki deegar na zan bood saman bar kazo |5|

She was as delicate as the leaves of a jasmine.(5)

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਦੁਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਆਂ ਪਿਸਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

vazaa dukhatare shaah aan pisar shaah |

That daughter fell in love with the son of the king,

ਸ਼ੁਦ ਆਸ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਬਰ ਵੈ ਚੁ ਬਰ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ ਮਾਹ ॥੬॥

shud aashafateh bar vai chu bar shamash maah |6|

As much as the moon falls for the sun.(6)

ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਕਿ ਏ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਮਾਰਾ ਬਿਕੁਨ ॥

bigoyad ki e shaah maaraa bikun |

She asked, ‘Oh, the prince, make me your spouse,

ਕਿ ਦਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਕਸੇ ਮਰਦ ਦੀਗਰ ਮਕੁਨ ॥੭॥

ki dahishat kase marad deegar makun |7|

‘And do not care about any body else.’(7)

ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦਮ ਕਿ ਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਹਿੰਦੋਸਤਾ ॥

shuneedam ki dar shaeh hindosataa |

(The Prince said,) ‘I have heard about the king of Hindustan,

ਕਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਜ਼ਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸ਼ਾਹੇ ਵਜ਼ਾ ॥੮॥

ki naame vazaa sher shaahe vazaa |8|

‘The name of that strong man is Sher Shah.(8)

ਚੁਨਾ ਨਸ਼ਤ ਦਸਤੂਰ ਮੁਲਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ॥

chunaa nashat dasatoor mulake khudaa |

‘The standard of morality in that God fearing country is such,

ਬਯਕ ਦਾਨ ਬੇਗਾਨ ਰੇਜ਼ਦ ਜੁਦਾ ॥੯॥

bayak daan begaan rezad judaa |9|

‘That no one can plunder even an iota of other’s rights.(9)

ਬਿਗ਼ੀਰੰਦ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਿਅਫ਼ਤਾਦ ਤੁਰਗ਼ ॥

bigeerand shaahee biafataad turag |

‘To attain the kingdom, he had driven out the enemy,

ਬਪੇਸ਼ੇ ਗੁਰੇਜ਼ਦ ਚੁ ਅਜ਼ ਬਾਜ਼ ਮੁਰਗ਼ ॥੧੦॥

bapeshe gurezad chu az baaz murag |10|

‘(And the enemy) had dashed away like a cock in front of a falcon.(10)

ਬਿਗੀਰਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਹਰਦੁ ਅਸਪੇ ਕਲਾ ॥

bigeerad azo harad asape kalaa |

‘From the enemy, he had snatched two horses,

ਕਿ ਮੁਲਕੋ ਅਰਾਕਸ਼ ਬਿਆਮਦ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥੧੧॥

ki mulako araakash biaamad azaa |11|

‘Which were brought from the country of Iraq.(11)

ਬਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਓ ਰਾ ਬਸੇ ਜ਼ਰ ਦੁ ਫ਼ੀਲ ॥

bi bakhasheed o raa base zar du feel |

‘Also, the enemy had presented him a lot of gold, and elephants,

ਕਿ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਬਿਆਵੁਰਦ ਦਰੀਯਾਇ ਨੀਲ ॥੧੨॥

ki beroon biaavurad dareeyaae neel |12|

‘Which were brought from across the (river) Nile.(12)

ਯਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਹੋ ਸੁਰਾਹੋ ਦਿਗਰ ॥

yake naam raaho suraaho digar |

‘The name of one horse is Rahu and the other is Surahu.

ਚੁ ਆਹੂ ਕਲਾ ਪਾਇ ਅਜ਼ੀਮੇ ਦੁ ਨਰ ॥੧੩॥

chu aahoo kalaa paae azeeme du nar |13|

‘Both are grand and their hooves are like the feet of the stags.(13)

ਅਗਰ ਅਸਪ ਹਰ ਦੋ ਅਜ਼ਾ ਮੇ ਦਿਹਦ ॥

agar asap har do azaa me dihad |

‘If you can fetch me both those horses,

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਪਸ ਤੁਰਾ ਖ਼ਾਨਹ ਬਾਨੂੰ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੧੪॥

vazaa pas turaa khaanah baanoo kunad |14|

‘Then, after that, I will marry you.’(14)

ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦ ਈਂ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਰਾ ਹਮੀ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਰਵਾ ॥

shuneed een sukhan raa hamee shud ravaa |

Harking to this, she set out on her journey,

ਬਿਯਾਮਦ ਬ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਿੰਦੋਸਤਾ ॥੧੫॥

biyaamad b shehar shaah hindosataa |15|

And came to a city in the country of Sher Shah.(15)

ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤੰਦ ਬਰ ਰੋਦ ਜਮਨਾ ਲਬ ਆਬ ॥

nishasatand bar rod jamanaa lab aab |

She took her position on the bank of (River) Jamuna.

ਬਿ ਬੁਰਦੰਦ ਬਾਦਹ ਖ਼ੁਰਦੰਦ ਕਬਾਬ ॥੧੬॥

bi buradand baadah khuradand kabaab |16|

She brought with her wine (to drink) and (meat) kebab to eat.(16)

ਪਸੇ ਦੋ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਸ਼ਬੇ ਚੂੰ ਸਿਯਾਹ ॥

pase do baraamad shabe choon siyaah |

When it was pitch dark and the night was through two watches,

ਰਵਾ ਕਰਦ ਆਬਸ ਬਸੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਤ ਕਾਹ ॥੧੭॥

ravaa karad aabas base pushat kaah |17|

She floated a number of bundles of fodder.(17)

ਬ ਦੀਦੰਦ ਓ ਰਾ ਬਸੇ ਪਾਸਬਾ ॥

b deedand o raa base paasabaa |

When the guards observed those bundles,

ਬ ਤੁੰਦੀ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਬਤਾਬਸ਼ ਹੁਮਾ ॥੧੮॥

b tundee daraamad bataabash humaa |18|

They flew into rage.(18)

ਬਸੇ ਬਰ ਵੈ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਬਾਰਾ ਕੁਨਦ ॥

base bar vai bandook baaraa kunad |

They fired guns on them a few times,

ਚੁ ਬਾ ਬਰਕ ਅਬਰਸ ਬਹਾਰਾ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੧੯॥

chu baa barak abaras bahaaraa kunad |19|

But they were getting engulfed with the drowsiness.(19)

ਹਮੀ ਵਜ਼ਹ ਕਰਦੰਦ ਦੁ ਸੇ ਚਾਰ ਬਾਰ ॥

hamee vazah karadand du se chaar baar |

She repeated the process for three or four times,

ਹਮ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਕੁਨਦ ਖ਼ਾਬ ਖ਼ੁਫ਼ਤ ਇਖ਼ਤੀਯਾਰ ॥੨੦॥

ham aakhar kunad khaab khufat ikhateeyaar |20|

And at the end they were overpowered by the sleep.

ਬਿਦਾਨਦ ਕਿ ਖ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਪਾਸਬਾ ॥

bidaanad ki khufateh shavad paasabaa |

When she realised that the guards were slumbering,

ਬ ਪਯ ਮੁਰਦ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਹਮ ਚੁ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੇ ਯਲਾ ॥੨੧॥

b pay murad shud ham chu zakhame yalaa |21|

And they seemed like the injured soldiers,(21)

ਰਵਾ ਕਰਦ ਓ ਜਾ ਬਿਆਮਦ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥

ravaa karad o jaa biaamad azaa |

She walked and reached the place,

ਕਿ ਬੁਨ ਗਾਹ ਅਜ਼ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਕਰਖੇ ਗਿਰਾ ॥੨੨॥

ki bun gaah az shaah karakhe giraa |22|

Where there originated the base of the mansion.(22)

ਘਰੀ ਰਾ ਬਿਕੋਬਦ ਘਰੀਯਾ ਘਰੀਯਾਰ ॥

gharee raa bikobad ghareeyaa ghareeyaar |

As the time-keeper hit the gong,

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਮੇਖ ਕੋਬਦ ਬ ਪੁਸ਼ਤੇ ਦਿਵਾਰ ॥੨੩॥

vazaa mekh kobad b pushate divaar |23|

She put the pegs in the wall.(23)

ਚੁਨਾ ਤਾ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਦਿਵਾਰੇ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥

chunaa taa baraamad divaare azeem |

Climbing up the pegs, she reached the top of the building.

ਦੁ ਅਸਪਸ਼ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰੀਮ ॥੨੪॥

du asapash nazar karad hukame kareem |24|

With the blessings of God, she noticed both the horses.(24)

ਯਕੇ ਰਾ ਬਿਜ਼ਦ ਤਾ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਨੀਮ ਕਰਦ ॥

yake raa bizad taa azo neem karad |

She hit one guard and cut him into two,

ਦਰੇ ਪਾਸਬਾਨੇ ਬਰ ਅਜ਼ ਨੀਮ ਕਰਦ ॥੨੫॥

dare paasabaane bar az neem karad |25|

Then at the door she destroyed two more.(25)

ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਰਾ ਬਿਜ਼ਦ ਤਾ ਜੁਦਾ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਸਰ ॥

digar raa bizad taa judaa gashat sar |

She met another one and cut his head off.

ਸਿਯਮ ਰਾ ਬਿਕੁਸ਼ਤਨ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਖ਼ੂੰਨ ਤਰ ॥੨੬॥

siyam raa bikushatan shavad khoon tar |26|

She struck third one and made him to drench in blood.(26)

ਚੁਅਮ ਰਾ ਜੁਦਾ ਕਰਦ ਪੰਜਮ ਬਕੁਸ਼ਤ ॥

chuam raa judaa karad panjam bakushat |

The fourth one was slashed and fifth decimated,

ਸ਼ਸ਼ਮ ਰਾ ਬਕੁਸ਼ਤੰਦ ਜਮਦਾਰ ਮੁਸ਼ਤ ॥੨੭॥

shasham raa bakushatand jamadaar mushat |27|

The sixth became the victim of the handle of the dagger.(27)

ਸ਼ਸ਼ਮ ਚੌਕੀਅਸ ਕੁਸ਼ਤ ਆਮਦ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥

shasham chauakeeas kushat aamad azaa |

After killing the sixth one, she leaped forward,

ਕਿ ਹਫ਼ਤਸ਼ ਗਿਰਾ ਬੁਦ ਚੌਕੀ ਗਿਰਾ ॥੨੮॥

ki hafatash giraa bud chauakee giraa |28|

And wanted to slaughter the seventh one who was standing on the platform.(28)

ਕਿ ਹਫ਼ਤਮ ਹਮੀ ਕੁਸ਼ਤ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੇ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥

ki hafatam hamee kushat zakhame azeem |

She injured the seventh one badly,

ਕਿ ਦਸਤਸ਼ ਕੁਨਦ ਰਖ਼ਸ਼ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰੀਮ ॥੨੯॥

ki dasatash kunad rakhash hukame kareem |29|

And then, with the blessing of God, stretched her hand towards the horse.(29)

ਚੁਨਾ ਤਾਜ਼ੀਆਨਹ ਬਿਜ਼ਦ ਤਾਜ਼ੀਅਸ਼ ॥

chunaa taazeeaanah bizad taazeeash |

She mounted the horse and hit him so hard,

ਕਿ ਬਾਲਾ ਬਿਯਾਮਦ ਬ ਜ਼ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਸ਼ ॥੩੦॥

ki baalaa biyaamad b zaman andarash |30|

That it jumped over the wall and into the river Jamuna.(30)

ਵਗਸ਼ਤਨ ਦਰਾਬੇ ਬ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥

vagashatan daraabe b beroon azaa |

For long time, the horse paddled around in water,

ਕਿ ਹੈਰਤ ਬਿਮਾਦੰਦ ਸ਼ਾਹੇ ਜਹਾ ॥੩੧॥

ki hairat bimaadand shaahe jahaa |31|

In the mean time the King of the Land came to know of the happening.(31)

ਕਿ ਦੰਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਰਦ ਦਸਤ ਅਜ਼ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

ki dandaa khurad dasat az sher shaah |

Sher Shah, the king, bit his hand (to ascertain that it was not a dream),

ਬ ਹੈਰਤ ਹਮੀ ਰਫ਼ਤ ਆਲਮ ਪਨਾਹ ॥੩੨॥

b hairat hamee rafat aalam panaah |32|

And he was extremely put in predicament of the action.(32)

ਕਿ ਮਰਾ ਕੁਜ਼ਾ ਬੁਰਦ ਅਸਪੇ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥

ki maraa kuzaa burad asape azeem |

‘How has one taken my superb horse?

ਬਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਓ ਹਮ ਚੁ ਕਸਮੇ ਕਰੀਮ ॥੩੩॥

bi bakhasheed o ham chu kasame kareem |33|

‘On God’s honour, I will pardon him, he pronounced,(33)

ਦਰੇਗ਼ਾ ਅਗਰ ਰੂਇ ਓ ਦੀਦਮੇ ॥

daregaa agar rooe o deedame |

‘If I see that person,

ਬ ਸਦ ਗੰਜ ਸਰਬਸਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਮੇ ॥੩੪॥

b sad ganj sarabasat bakhasheedame |34|

‘I will forgive him and endow him a treasure.(34)

ਕਿ ਹੈਫ਼ਸਤ ਗਰੋ ਦੀਦਏ ਯਾਫ਼ਤਮ ॥

ki haifasat garo deede yaafatam |

‘Strange enough, if I ever come across him,

ਬ ਜਾਏ ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਦਿਲ ਨਜ਼ੋ ਤਾਫ਼ਤਮ ॥੩੫॥

b jaae digar dil nazo taafatam |35|

‘I will never fly into rage.(35)

ਕਿ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੰਦ ਅਗਰ ਓ ਮਰਾ ॥

ki deedaar bakhashand agar o maraa |

‘If he comes voluntarily,

ਕਿ ਸਦ ਗੰਜ ਸਰਬਸਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਮ ਵਰਾ ॥੩੬॥

ki sad ganj sarabasat bakhasham varaa |36|

‘I will further give him one hundred bags full of coins.’(36)

ਚੁ ਸ਼ੁਹਰਤ ਕੁਨਾਨੀਦ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਅੰਦਰੂੰ ॥

chu shuharat kunaaneed shehar andaroon |

Through out the city, it was proclaimed,

ਕਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਮਮ ਖ਼ੂੰਨ ਅਜ਼ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਰ ਖ਼ੂੰ ॥੩੭॥

ki bakhasheed mam khoon az khvaar khoon |37|

‘I will forgive that robber but he must come to see me at least once.’(37)

ਬਿ ਬਸਤੰਦ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਅਜ਼ ਜਾਮ ਜ਼ਰ ॥

bi basatand dasataar az jaam zar |

Then the daughter of the tycoon, wearing golden turban,

ਬ ਪੇਸ਼ੇ ਸ਼ਹ ਆਮਦ ਚੁ ਜ਼ਰਰੀ ਸਿਪਰ ॥੩੮॥

b peshe sheh aamad chu zararee sipar |38|

And holding a shinning shield, presented herself,(38)

ਬਗੋਯਦ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਫ਼ਕਨੋ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

bagoyad ki sher afakano sher shaah |

And said, ‘Oh, Sher Shah, the killer of lions,

ਕਿ ਅਜ਼ ਰਾਹ ਰਾ ਮਨ ਬਿਬੁਰਦੰਦ ਰਾਹ ॥੩੯॥

ki az raah raa man biburadand raah |39|

‘It is me who had taken your horse in a strange way.’(39)

ਅਜਬਮਾਦ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਖ਼ਿਰਦ ਈਂ ਜਵਾਬ ॥

ajabamaad saahib khirad een javaab |

Listening to her the intelligent king was astounded.

ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਬਾਰ ਗੋਯਦ ਕਿ ਬਾ ਵੈ ਸਵਾਬ ॥੪੦॥

digar baar goyad ki baa vai savaab |40|

And once again rapidly asked,(40)

ਕਿ ਨਕਲ ਸ ਨੁਮਾ ਈਂ ਮਰਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਤਨ ॥

ki nakal s numaa een maraa sher tan |

‘Oh you the fast one, tell me how did you do it?

ਬ ਵਜਹੇ ਚਰਾ ਬੁਰਦਾ ਅਸਪੇ ਕੁਹਨ ॥੪੧॥

b vajahe charaa buradaa asape kuhan |41|

‘To show me, you come and replay.’(41)

ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤੰਦ ਅਜ਼ਾ ਵਜਹੇ ਬਰ ਰੋਦ ਆਬ ॥

nishasatand azaa vajahe bar rod aab |

She sat down on the bank of river,

ਬਿ ਬੁਰਦੰਦ ਬਾਦਹ ਬਖ਼ੁਰਦਨ ਕਬਾਬ ॥੪੨॥

bi buradand baadah bakhuradan kabaab |42|

And the same way she drank wine and ate kebob.(42)

ਰਵਾ ਕਰਦ ਅਵਲ ਬਸੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਤ ਕਾਹ ॥

ravaa karad aval base pushat kaah |

Then she floated the bundles of the grass,

ਦਗ਼ਾ ਮੇ ਦਿਹਦ ਪਾਸਬਾਨਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥੪੩॥

dagaa me dihad paasabaanaan shaah |43|

And this way deceived the king’s guards.(43)

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਪਸ ਬ ਕੋਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੁਨਾਨੀਦ ਲਖ਼ਤ ॥

vazaa pas b koshash kunaaneed lakhat |

To show her cleverness of going across the river,

ਬ ਪੈਰਸ਼ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਜਿ ਦਰੀਯਾਇ ਸਖ਼ਤ ॥੪੪॥

b pairash daraamad ji dareeyaae sakhat |44|

She swam over the rough water.(44)

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਬਿਸ਼ਕੁਨਾਨੀਦ ਓ ਗਿਰਦ ਸ਼ੁਦ ॥

vazaa bishakunaaneed o girad shud |

She killed the first guard in a similar manner,

ਬ ਦੀਦਨ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਯ ਮੁਰਦਹ ਸ਼ੁਦ ॥੪੫॥

b deedan azo shaah pay muradah shud |45|

And vanished like the dust.(45)

ਘੜੀ ਯਕ ਬਿਮਾਦੰਦ ਗ਼ਰੂਬ ਆਫ਼ਤਾਬ ॥

gharree yak bimaadand garoob aafataab |

When the sun was just set,

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਜਾ ਬਿਯਾਮਦ ਕੁਸ਼ਾਯਦ ਤਨਾਬ ॥੪੬॥

vazaa jaa biyaamad kushaayad tanaab |46|

She came to the same place and untied the second horse.(46)

ਲਗ਼ਾਮਸ਼ ਬਿਦਾਦੰਦ ਸ੍ਵਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੁਦਸਤ ॥

lagaamash bidaadand svaare shudasat |

After bridling, she mounted the horse,

ਬਿਜ਼ਦ ਤਾਜੀਆਂਨਹ ਚੁ ਅਫ਼ਰੀਤ ਮਸਤ ॥੪੭॥

bizad taajeeanah chu afareet masat |47|

And then she hit the satanic animal.(47)

ਚੁਨਾ ਅਸਪ ਖ਼ੋਜ਼ੀਦ ਬਰਤਰ ਜਿ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

chunaa asap khozeed baratar ji shaah |

The horse flew so high,

ਜ਼ਿ ਬਾਲਾ ਬਿਯਾਮਦ ਬ ਦਰੀਯਾਇ ਗਾਹ ॥੪੮॥

zi baalaa biyaamad b dareeyaae gaah |48|

That it glided over the head of the king and jumped into the river.(48)

ਬ ਪੈਰਸ਼ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਜਿ ਦਰੀਯਾ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥

b pairash daraamad ji dareeyaa azeem |

Swimming over the great river,

ਕਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਹਮੀ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰੀਮ ॥੪੯॥

ki paaras hamee gashat hukame kareem |49|

With God’s blessings, the horse went across.(49)

ਫ਼ਰੋਦ ਆਮਦਸ਼ ਅਸਪ ਕਰਦਸ ਸਲਾਮ ॥

farod aamadash asap karadas salaam |

She dismounted, saluted the King,

ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਅਰਬੀ ਕਲਾਮ ॥੫੦॥

bigoyad sukhan shaeh arabee kalaam |50|

And communicated aloud in Arabic.(50)

ਤੁ ਅਕਲਸ਼ ਚਰਾ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਏ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

tu akalash charaa gashat e shaeh shaah |

‘Oh, Sher Shah, why did you let your intelligent dispel.

ਕਿ ਮਾ ਰਾਹ ਬੁਰਦਨ ਤੁ ਦਾਦਨ ਸੁਰਾਹ ॥੫੧॥

ki maa raah buradan tu daadan suraah |51|

‘I had taken Rahu myself but now you, yourself, gave me Surahus.’(51)

ਕਿ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਸ਼ ਚੁਨੀ ਤਾ ਰਵਾ ਕਰਦ ਰਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥

ki gufatash chunee taa ravaa karad rakhash |

Declaring thus she galloped the horse,

ਬ ਯਾਦ ਆਮਦੋ ਏਜ਼ਦੇ ਦਾਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੫੨॥

b yaad aamado ezade daad bakhash |52|

And she thanked the Great Benevolent Almighty.(52)

ਬਿ ਅਫ਼ਤਾਦ ਪੁਸ਼ਤ ਅਸਪਹਾ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ॥

bi afataad pushat asapahaa beshumaar |

She was pursued by numerous horse-riders,

ਕਿ ਓ ਰਾ ਨ ਹਮ ਬਰ ਕੁਨਦ ਕਸ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ॥੫੩॥

ki o raa na ham bar kunad kas svaar |53|

But none could reach to catch her.(53)

ਬਿਜ਼ਦ ਮਰਦ ਦਾਸਤਾਰਹਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥

bizad marad daasataarahaa pesh shaah |

All his warriors threw their turbans in front of the King,

ਕਿ ਏ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਨ ਆਲਮ ਪਨਾਹ ॥੫੪॥

ki e shaah shaahaan aalam panaah |54|

(And said,) ‘Oh, the King of the universe and the provider,(54)

ਬਿਗੀਰਦ ਕਸੇ ਹਰ ਦੁ ਆਹੂ ਬੁਰਾਕ ॥

bigeerad kase har du aahoo buraak |

‘No one could dare to take away those horses,

ਤੁ ਓ ਰਾ ਬਿਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਦਸਤ ਤਾਕ ॥੫੫॥

tu o raa bibakhasheed khud dasat taak |55|

‘But you gave her one yourself.(55)

ਚਰਾਮੇ ਕੁਨਦ ਕਾਰਹਾ ਬੇਖ਼ੁਦੀ ॥

charaame kunad kaarahaa bekhudee |

‘Why, sire, did you take an oblivious decision.

ਕਿ ਰਾਹਾ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਮਨ ਸੁਰਾਹਾ ਤੁਈਂ ॥੫੬॥

ki raahaa azo man suraahaa tueen |56|

‘Rahu, she had stolen but you gave her Surahu yourself.’(56)

ਬਿਬੁਰਦਸ਼ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਅਸਪ ਹਰ ਦੋ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥

biburadash azo asap har do azeem |

Both the horses she took away,

ਵਜ਼ਾ ਰਾ ਬਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਹੁਕਮੇਾਂ ਰਹੀਮ ॥੫੭॥

vazaa raa bi bakhasheed hukameaan raheem |57|

And, with godly compassion, she handed over them to her friend.(57)

ਕਿ ਓ ਰਾ ਦਰਾਵੁਰਦ ਖ਼ਾਨਹ ਨਿਕਾਹ ॥

ki o raa daraavurad khaanah nikaah |

He married her and brought her home,

ਕਿ ਕੌਲੇ ਕੁਨਦ ਮੁਸਤਕੀਮ ਹੁਕਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ॥੫੮॥

ki kauale kunad musatakeem hukam shaah |58|

And, with celestial grace, full-filled his promise.(58)

ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਕੋਕਨਾਰ ॥

bidih saakeeyaa saagare kokanaar |

(The Poet says), ‘Give me the cup full of liquidated poppy-husk,

ਦਰੇ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗਸ਼ ਬਿਯਾਮਦ ਬ ਕਾਰ ॥੫੯॥

dare vakat jangash biyaamad b kaar |59|

‘Which may help me at the time of struggle.(59)

ਕਿ ਖ਼ੂਬਸਤ ਦਰ ਵਕਤ ਖ਼ਸਮ ਅਫ਼ਕਨੀ ॥

ki khoobasat dar vakat khasam afakanee |

‘Also it is reliable to beat the enemy.

ਕਿ ਯਕ ਕੁਰਤਯਸ ਫ਼ੀਲ ਰਾ ਪੈਕਨੀ ॥੬੦॥੧੧॥

ki yak kuratayas feel raa paikanee |60|11|

‘Even one sip of this makes one feel like an elephant.’(60)(11)
