ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥

varan roop varateh sabh tere |

In all colors and forms, You are pervading.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫੇਰ ਪਵਹਿ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥

mar mar jameh fer paveh ghanere |

People die over and over again; they are re-born, and make their rounds on the wheel of reincarnation.

ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

toon eko nihachal agam apaaraa guramatee boojh bujhaavaniaa |1|

You alone are Eternal and Unchanging, Inaccessible and Infinite. Through the Guru's Teachings, understanding is imparted. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

hau vaaree jeeo vaaree raam naam man vasaavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Lord's Name in their minds.

ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਵਰਨੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tis roop na rekhiaa varan na koee guramatee aap bujhaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

The Lord has no form, features or color. Through the Guru's Teachings, He inspires us to understand Him. ||1||Pause||

ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥

sabh ekaa jot jaanai je koee |

The One Light is all-pervading; only a few know this.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

satigur seviai paragatt hoee |

Serving the True Guru, this is revealed.

ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

gupat paragatt varatai sabh thaaee jotee jot milaavaniaa |2|

In the hidden and in the obvious, He is pervading all places. Our light merges into the Light. ||2||

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

tisanaa agan jalai sansaaraa |

The world is burning in the fire of desire,

ਲੋਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥

lobh abhimaan bahut ahankaaraa |

in greed, arrogance and excessive ego.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਏ ਅਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

mar mar janamai pat gavaae apanee birathaa janam gavaavaniaa |3|

People die over and over again; they are re-born, and lose their honor. They waste away their lives in vain. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

gur kaa sabad ko viralaa boojhai |

Those who understand the Word of the Guru's Shabad are very rare.

ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

aap maare taa tribhavan soojhai |

Those who subdue their egotism, come to know the three worlds.

ਫਿਰਿ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

fir ohu marai na maranaa hovai sahaje sach samaavaniaa |4|

Then, they die, never to die again. They are intuitively absorbed in the True One. ||4||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥

maaeaa meh fir chit na laae |

They do not focus their consciousness on Maya again.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

gur kai sabad sad rahai samaae |

They remain absorbed forever in the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

sach salaahe sabh ghatt antar sacho sach suhaavaniaa |5|

They praise the True One, who is contained deep within all hearts. They are blessed and exalted by the Truest of the True. ||5||

ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥

sach saalaahee sadaa hajoore |

Praise the True One, who is Ever-present.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥

gur kai sabad rahiaa bharapoore |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is pervading everywhere.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

gur parasaadee sach nadaree aavai sache hee sukh paavaniaa |6|

By Guru's Grace, we come to behold the True One; from the True One, peace is obtained. ||6||

ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

sach man andar rahiaa samaae |

The True One permeates and pervades the mind within.

ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

sadaa sach nihachal aavai na jaae |

The True One is Eternal and Unchanging; He does not come and go in reincarnation.

ਸਚੇ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

sache laagai so man niramal guramatee sach samaavaniaa |7|

Those who are attached to the True One are immaculate and pure. Through the Guru's Teachings, they merge in the True One. ||7||

ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

sach saalaahee avar na koee |

Praise the True One, and no other.

ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

jit seviai sadaa sukh hoee |

Serving Him, eternal peace is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੮॥੧੯॥

naanak naam rate veechaaree sacho sach kamaavaniaa |8|18|19|

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam, reflect deeply on the Truth; they practice only Truth. ||8||18||19||
