ਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਧਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਸੈ ।

paanee andar dharat hai dharatee andar paanee vasai |

Earth is in water and in the earth also is water.

ਧਰਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਰੰਗ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਸਭ ਰਸ ਰਸੈ ।

dharatee rang na rang sabh dharatee saau na sabh ras rasai |

Earth has no colour yet it has all colours (in the form of different vegetation) in it.

ਧਰਤੀ ਗੰਧੁ ਨ ਗੰਧ ਬਹੁ ਧਰਤਿ ਨ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਤਰਸੈ ।

dharatee gandh na gandh bahu dharat na roop anoop tarasai |

Earth has no taste yet all the tastes are contained in it.

ਜੇਹਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਦਸੈ ।

jehaa beejai so lunai karam bhoom sabh koee dasai |

No smell is there in the earth, yet all the fragrances reside in it.

ਚੰਦਨ ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਲੇਪੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਮਲ ਮੂਤ ਕਸੂਤੁ ਨ ਧਸੈ ।

chandan lep na lep hai kar mal moot kasoot na dhasai |

Earth is a field for actions; here one reaps what one sows.

ਵੁਠੇ ਮੀਹ ਜਮਾਇਦੇ ਡਵਿ ਲਗੈ ਅੰਗੂਰੁ ਵਿਗਸੈ ।

vutthe meeh jamaaeide ddav lagai angoor vigasai |

Plastered with sandal paste, it does not get attached to it and fouled up by creatures' excreta it does not sink with anger and shame.

ਦੁਖਿ ਨ ਰੋਵੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਨ ਹਸੈ ।੧੪।

dukh na rovai sukh na hasai |14|

After rains people sow corn in it and even after (getting heat) fire new seedlings sprout from it. It does not wail in suffering nor laughs in pleasure.
