ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਇਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ।

asatt dhaat ik dhaat hoe sabh ko kanchan aakh vakhaanai |

With the touch of philosopher's stone the eight metals become one metal and people call it gold.

ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੋਇ ਮੁਲਿ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਵਾਣੈ ।

roop anoop saroop hoe mul amul panch paravaanai |

That beautiful metal becomes gold and the jewellers also prove it to be gold.

ਪਥਰੁ ਪਾਰਸਿ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਕੁਲ ਅਭਿਮਾਣੈ ।

pathar paaras paraseeai paaras hoe na kul abhimaanai |

Stone does not become philosopher's stone even after getting touched by it because the pride of family and hardness remains present in it (in fact the philosopher's stone is also but a stone).

ਪਾਣੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਟੀਐ ਤੜਭੜ ਡੁਬੈ ਭਾਰ ਭੁਲਾਣੈ ।

paanee andar satteeai tarrabharr ddubai bhaar bhulaanai |

Thrown in water, the stone full of pride of its weight sinks at once.

ਚਿਤ ਕਠੋਰ ਨ ਭਿਜਈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਕੋਰੁ ਘੜੈ ਭੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ।

chit katthor na bhijee rahai nikor gharrai bhan jaanai |

Hard-hearted stone never gets wet and from inside remains as dry as it was earlier. It only learns how to break pitchers.

ਅਗੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਫੁਟਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਹਰਣਿ ਘਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੈਰਾਣੈ ।

agee andar futt jaae aharan ghan andar hairaanai |

It cracks when put in fire and becomes brittle when hammered on anvil.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਣੈ ।

saadhasangat gur sabad sun gur upades na andar aanai |

Such person's also even after listening to the teachings of the Guru in the holy congregation do not keep to their heart the importance of the teachings.

ਕਪਟ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਧਿਙਾਣੈ ।੧੧।

kapatt sanehu na hoe dhingaanai |11|

Showing fake affection, none can forcibly prove to be truthful.
