Maaroo, Fourth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
har har naam japahu man mere |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind.
ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
sabh kilavikh kaattai har tere |
The Lord shall eradicate all your sins.
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
har dhan raakhahu har dhan sanchahu har chaladiaa naal sakhaaee jeeo |1|
Treasure the Lord's wealth, and gather in the Lord's wealth; when you depart in the end, the Lord shall go along with you as your only friend and companion. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
jis no kripaa kare so dhiaavai |
He alone meditates on the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace.
ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
nit har jap jaapai jap har sukh paavai |
He continually chants the Lord's Chant; meditating on the Lord, one finds peace.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasaadee har ras aavai jap har har paar langhaaee jeeo |1| rahaau |
By Guru's Grace, the sublime essence of the Lord is obtained. Meditating on the Lord, Har, Har, one is carried across. ||1||Pause||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
nirbhau nirankaar sat naam |
The fearless, formless Lord - the Name is Truth.
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟੁ ਊਤਮ ਕਾਮੁ ॥
jag meh sresatt aootam kaam |
To chant it is the most sublime and exalted activity in this world.
ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਠੇਹ ਮਾਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
dusaman doot jamakaal ttheh maarau har sevak nerr na jaaee jeeo |2|
Doing so, the Messenger of Death, the evil enemy, is killed. Death does not even approach the Lord's servant. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
jis upar har kaa man maaniaa |
One whose mind is satisfied with the Lord
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
so sevak chahu jug chahu kuntt jaaniaa |
that servant is known throughout the four ages, in all four directions.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਕਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਖਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
je us kaa buraa kahai koee paapee tis jamakankar khaaee jeeo |3|
If some sinner speaks evil of him, the Messenger of Death chews him up. ||3||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
sabh meh ek niranjan karataa |
The One Pure Creator Lord is in all.
ਸਭਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਚਲਤਾ ॥
sabh kar kar vekhai apane chalataa |
He stages all His wondrous plays, and watches them.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
jis har raakhai tis kaun maarai jis karataa aap chhaddaaee jeeo |4|
Who can kill that person, whom the Lord has saved? The Creator Lord Himself delivers him. ||4||
ਹਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਈ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥
hau anadin naam lee karataare |
I chant the Name of the Creator Lord, night and day.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਭੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
jin sevak bhagat sabhe nisataare |
He saves all His servants and devotees.
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਸਭਿ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥੨॥੮॥
das atth chaar ved sabh poochhahu jan naanak naam chhaddaaee jeeo |5|2|8|
Consult the eighteen Puraanas and the four Vedas; O servant Nanak, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, will deliver you. ||5||2||8||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਨਖੵਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥
ddarapai dharat akaas nakhayatraa sir aoopar amar karaaraa |
The earth, the Akaashic ethers and the stars abide in the Fear of God. The almighty Order of the Lord is over the heads of all.
ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਡਰਪੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
paun paanee baisantar ddarapai ddarapai indru bichaaraa |1|
Wind, water and fire abide in the Fear of God; poor Indra abides in the Fear of God as well. ||1||
ਏਕਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ॥
ekaa nirbhau baat sunee |
I have heard one thing, that the One Lord alone is fearless.
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so sukheea so sadaa suhelaa jo gur mil gaae gunee |1| rahaau |
He alone is at peace, and he alone is embellished forever, who meets with the Guru, and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਦੇਹਧਾਰ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਡਰਿ ਮੁਇਆ ॥
dehadhaar ar devaa ddarapeh sidh saadhik ddar mueaa |
The embodied and the divine beings abide in the Fear of God. The Siddhas and seekers die in the Fear of God.
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੋਇਆ ॥੨॥
lakh chauraaseeh mar mar janame fir fir jonee joeaa |2|
The 8.4 millions species of beings die, and die again, and are born over and over again. They are consigned to reincarnation. ||2||
ਰਾਜਸੁ ਸਾਤਕੁ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
raajas saatak taamas ddarapeh kete roop upaaeaa |
Those who embody the energies of sattva-white light, raajas-red passion, and taamas-black darkness, abide in the Fear of God, along with the many created forms.
ਛਲ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਇਹ ਕਉਲਾ ਡਰਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
chhal bapuree ih kaulaa ddarapai at ddarapai dharam raaeaa |3|
This miserable deceiver Maya abides in the Fear of God; the Righteous Judge of Dharma is utterly afraid of Him as well. ||3||
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਡਰਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਡਰ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥
sagal samagree ddareh biaapee bin ddar karanaihaaraa |
The entire expanse of the Universe is in the Fear of God; only the Creator Lord is without this Fear.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
kahu naanak bhagatan kaa sangee bhagat soheh darabaaraa |4|1|
Says Nanak, God is the companion of His devotees; His devotees look beautiful in the Court of the Lord. ||4||1||

Sending a maid she called him over,
ਅਧਿਕ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਖਾਇ ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੩॥
adhik hridai harakhaae kaam kel taa sau kiyo |3|
And with contentment pampered in sex plays.(3)

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਆਸਨ ਕਰੇ ਚੁੰਬਨ ਕਰੇ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
bhaat bhaat aasan kare chunban kare banaae |
She adopted invariable postures and kissed him a lot.
ਚਿਮਟਿ ਚਿਮਟਿ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰਮੈ ਛਿਨਿਕ ਨ ਛੋਰਿਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
chimatt chimatt taa sau ramai chhinik na chhoriyo jaae |4|
By hugging and cuddling she enjoyed love-making.(4)

ਮੀਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਚਿਤ ਭੀਤਰ ਭਾਯੋ ॥
meet adhik chit bheetar bhaayo |
ਰਾਜਾ ਕੌ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਾਯੋ ॥
raajaa kau man te bisaraayo |
She fell for this friend so much that she wiped out love for Raja.
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਭਈ ॥
man bach kram taahee kee bhee |
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤੇ ਨਿਜੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥੫॥
par triy te nij triy hvai gee |5|
Both, in deeds and talks, she became his and, instead of a kept-woman, she turned out as his woman.(5)
ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਰਹਤ ਧਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਪਰੀ ॥
nis din rehat dhaam tih paree |
ਜਨੁ ਤਿਹ ਜੀਤਿ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਬਰੀ ॥
jan tih jeet suyanbar baree |
Now she began to remain in his house day and night and it appeared as if he had won her in the swayamber ceremony for the selection of a husband.
ਰਾਜਾ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਨਿਕਟ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
raajaa ke triy nikatt na aavai |
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਅਤਿ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
taa ke sang at kel kamaavai |6|
The woman would not come near Raja but enjoyed lovemaking with him (the friend).(6)
ਚੁੰਬਨ ਔਰ ਅਲਿੰਗਨ ਦੇਈ ॥
chunban aauar alingan deee |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੈ ਆਸਨ ਲੇਈ ॥
bhaat bhaat kai aasan leee |
By reciprocating the kisses and postures, she would take assorted positions.
ਹਰਖ ਠਾਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
harakh tthaan triy kel kamaavai |
ਕਾਮ ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਤਾਵੈ ॥੭॥
kaam reet kee preet jataavai |7|
She would enjoy heartfelt sex, and, through the art oflove-making, would render her affections.(7)
ਕਿਨੀ ਰਾਵ ਸੋ ਭੇਦ ਜਤਾਵਾ ॥
kinee raav so bhed jataavaa |
ਕੋਊ ਜਾਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ਆਵਾ ॥
koaoo jaar tihaare aavaa |
Some body went and disclosed to Raja, ‘A paramour comes to your house.
ਰਾਜਾ ਤਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਦਯੋ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
raajaa tav triy dayo bhulaaee |
ਜਾਰ ਸਾਥ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੮॥
jaar saath at preet lagaaee |8|
‘Dear Raja, the woman has forgotten you and is in love with a friend.(8)

ਤੈਂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਭਏ ਛੋਰੀ ਸਕਲ ਸਿਯਾਨ ॥

‘Implicated in your incantations, you have shed your wisdom.
ਉਤ ਰਾਨੀ ਇਕ ਜਾਰ ਸੌ ਰਮਤ ਰਹੈ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨ ॥੯॥
aut raanee ik jaar sau ramat rahai ruch maan |9|
‘On the other side Rani is, enjoyably, involved with her paramour.’(9)

ਸਕਲ ਕਥਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਰੀ ॥
sakal kathaa sravanan nrip karee |
ਕਾਢਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਧਰੀ ॥
kaadt kripaan haath mai dharee |
After learning the facts, Raja unsheathed his sword.
ਰਾਜਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੇ ਆਏ ॥
raajaa grih raanee ke aae |
ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਬੈਠਾਏ ॥੧੦॥
rakhavaare chahoon or baitthaae |10|
Raja went to the palace of the Rani and, on all the four sides, he put the guards.(10)
ਸਖੀ ਏਕ ਲਖਿ ਭੇਦ ਸੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sakhee ek lakh bhed su paayo |
ਸੁਘਰਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸੌ ਜਾਇ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥
sughar kuar sau jaae jataayo |
One of the maids came to know the secret and went and told Sughar Kumari’
ਪੌਢੀ ਕਹਾ ਮੀਤ ਸੌ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ॥
pauadtee kahaa meet sau payaaree |
ਤੋ ਪਰ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਵ ਰਖਵਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥
to par karee raav rakhavaaree |11|
‘Here you are sleeping with the friend, and Raja has put the guards on all four sides.(11)
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਤਨ ਅਬੈ ਕਛੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
taa te jatan abai kachh keejai |
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਰਾਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੋ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
praan raakh preetam ko leejai |
‘Now conceive some plan to save the life of your lover.
ਜੌ ਯਹ ਹਾਥ ਰਾਵ ਕੇ ਐਹੈ ॥
jau yeh haath raav ke aihai |
ਤੋਹਿ ਸਹਿਤ ਜਮ ਧਾਮ ਪਠੈਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
tohi sahit jam dhaam patthaihai |12|
‘If he is apprehended by Raja, he will, immediately, be sent to the domain of death.(12)

ਬਹੁਤ ਦੇਗ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਗਚੇ ਰਾਨੀ ਲਏ ਮੰਗਾਇ ॥
bahut deg ar degache raanee le mangaae |
Rani collected a number of cauldrons,
ਦੁਗਧ ਡਾਰਿ ਪਾਵਕ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਦਏ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
dugadh ddaar paavak bikhai sabh hee de charraae |13|
And, filling them with milk, she put them on fire.(13)

ਏਕ ਦੇਗ ਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਬੈਠਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
ek deg mai tih baitthaariyo |
ਤਾ ਪਰ ਏਕ ਤਵਾ ਕੌ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
taa par ek tavaa kau ddaariyo |
In another cauldron, she asked her friend to sit in and covered it with an iron plate.
ਮਖਨੀ ਲੈ ਘੇਇਯਾ ਤਿਹ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
makhanee lai gheeiyaa tih kariyo |
ਤਪਤ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਤਵਨ ਪਰ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੪॥
tapat mittaae tavan par dhariyo |14|
She had laced it with butter and when cold, had put it on the top side.(14)
