Both got hold of the double-edged spears and thrust into each other’s bellies.
ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਝਾਗਿ ਕਟਾਰਿਨ ਲਰੀ ॥
tih ko jhaag kattaarin laree |
ਦੋਊ ਜੂਝਿ ਖੇਤ ਮੈ ਪਰੀ ॥੧੯॥

Throwing them away they fought with the daggers and both sacrificed their lives.(19)

ਸਤ੍ਰੁਨ ਸੌ ਬਾਲਾ ਲਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਨਿ ॥
satrun sau baalaa laree preet piyaa kee maan |
For sake oftheir lover, both had confronted the enemy,
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਤ ਭਈ ਸੁਰਪੁਰ ਕਿਯੋ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੨੦॥
nij pat ko paavat bhee surapur kiyo payaan |20|
And this way they reached heaven to meet their mate. (20)
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਜੇ ਲਰੀ ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
preet piyaa kee je laree dhan dhan te naar |
Praise worthy were those woman, who fought for sake oftheir loves,
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਜਸੁ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਬਸੀ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥੨੧॥
poor rahiyo jas jagat mai sur pur basee sudhaar |21|
They were honoured in the world and they attained the place in heaven, too. (21)
ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੀ ਪਿਯ ਪੀਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਨਿਕ ਨ ਮੋਰਿਯੋ ਅੰਗ ॥
joojh maree piy peer triy tanik na moriyo ang |
They accepted the sufferings but never showed their backs.
ਸੁ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ॥੨੨॥
su kab sayaam pooran bhayo tab hee kathaa prasang |22|

The devils and the gods, all, got together and went to churn the sea.
ਚੌਦਹ ਰਤਨ ਨਿਕਾਰੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
chauadah ratan nikaare jab hee |
ਦਾਨੋ ਉਠੇ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥੧॥
daano utthe kop kar tab hee |1|
When they had churned out fourteen treasures, the devils were enraged.(1)
ਹਮ ਹੀ ਰਤਨ ਚੌਦਹੂੰ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
ham hee ratan chauadahoon lai hai |
ਨਾਤਰ ਜਿਯਨ ਨ ਦੇਵਨ ਦੈ ਹੈ ॥
naatar jiyan na devan dai hai |
‘We will take all the fourteen treasures failing which we will not let the gods live in peace.
ਉਮਡੀ ਅਮਿਤ ਅਨਿਨ ਕੋ ਦਲਿ ਹੈ ॥
aumaddee amit anin ko dal hai |
ਲਹੁ ਭੈਯਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਜਿ ਨ ਚਲਿ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
lahu bhaiyan te bhaaj na chal hai |2|
‘Our innumerable army will rise and will see how they manage to escape from the younger brothers.’(2)

ਰਾਜ ਕਾਜ ਅਰ ਸਾਜ ਸਭ ਆਵਤ ਕਛੁ ਜੁ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

The sovereignty, governance, responsibilities and all those,
ਜੇਸਟ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੋ ਦੀਜਿਯਤ ਲਹੁਰੇ ਲਈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
jesatt bhraat ko deejiyat lahure lee na jaae |3|
They are always endowed to the older brothers, not the younger ones.(3)

The dreadful devils raided in fury under the noises of repulsive drums.
ਉਤੈ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਹਠੀ ਦੇਵ ਢੂਕੇ ॥

ਉਠੇ ਭਾਤਿ ਐਸੀ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੌ ਭਭੂਕੈ ॥੪॥

On the other side, the gods rose as if fiery winds were blowing.(4)
ਮੰਡੇ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਮਹਾ ਰੋਸ ਬਾਢੈ ॥
mandde kop kai kai mahaa ros baadtai |
ਇਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਬਾਕੈ ਉਤੈ ਦੈਤ ਗਾਢੈ ॥
eite dev baakai utai dait gaadtai |
On the one sides got ready the arrogant devils in right fury,
ਛਕੇ ਛੋਭ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਹਾ ਐਠ ਐਠੇ ॥
chhake chhobh chhatree mahaa aitth aitthe |
ਚੜੇ ਜੁਧ ਕੈ ਕਾਜ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਇਕੈਠੇ ॥੫॥

And on the other, numerous Kashatris, full of pride, entered the war.(5)
ਕਹੂੰ ਟੀਕ ਟਾਕੈ ਕਹੂੰ ਟੋਪ ਟੂਕੇ ॥

ਕਿਤੇ ਆਨਿ ਜੋਧਾ ਪਰੇ ਝੂਮਿ ਝੂਮੈ ॥
kite aan jodhaa pare jhoom jhoomai |
Many, who had come in great shape, had fallen drenched in blood,.
ਕਿਤੇ ਪਾਨਿ ਮਾਗੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੂਕੈ ॥
kite paan maage kite maar kookai |
ਕਿਤੇ ਬਾਢਵਾਰੀਨ ਕੋ ਕਾਢ ਢੂਕੈ ॥੭॥

They were cut into pieces and their elephants were severed.(7)
ਕਿਤੇ ਚੋਟ ਓਟੈ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਟਿ ਪੈਠੈ ॥

ਕਿਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਘਾਯਨ ਘਾਏ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥
kite beer ghaayan ghaae padhaare |
ਕਿਤੇ ਖੇਤ ਸੋਹੇ ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੯॥

ਇਤੈ ਸੂਰ ਕੋਪਿਯੋ ਉਤੈ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

ਇਤੈ ਜੋਰਿ ਗਾੜੀ ਅਨੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
eitai jor gaarree anee indr aayo |
Here, the Sun and there, the Moon was raiding, and Indra, along with his army, had ventured too.
ਉਤੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਾਧੀ ਧੁਜਾ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਕੋ ॥
autai budh baadhee dhujaa beer baako |
ਇਤੋ ਕਾਲ ਕੋਪਿਯੋ ਜਿਤੈ ਕੌਨ ਤਾ ਕੋ ॥੧੦॥
eito kaal kopiyo jitai kauan taa ko |10|
On the one side Buddha with a flag had come and on that side Kaal was striving.(10)
ਇਤੈ ਕੋਪਿ ਕੈ ਐਸ ਬਾਚੇ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
eitai kop kai ais baache sidhaayo |
From one side Brahamputra was shooting in and from the other
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਚਾਰਜ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਾ ਰਿਸਾਯੋ ॥
dutiy or te chaaraj sukraa risaayo |
Shankar Acharya was leaping in anger.
ਕੋਊ ਤੀਰ ਛੋਰੈ ਕੋਊ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਡਾਰੈ ॥
koaoo teer chhorai koaoo mantr ddaarai |
Some were throwing arrows and some were chanting.
ਲਿਖੈ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਕੇਊ ਕੇਊ ਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਰੈ ॥੧੧॥
likhai jantr keaoo keaoo tantr saarai |11|

ਕਿਤੇ ਤੇਗ ਸੂਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਾਨ ਮਾਰੈ ॥

ਮਹਾ ਭੇਰ ਭਾਰੀ ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਜੇ ॥
mahaa bher bhaaree mahaa naad baaje |
ਇਤੈ ਦੇਵ ਬਾਕੇ ਉਤੈ ਦੈਤ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੧੪॥

ਉਠਿਯੋ ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
autthiyo raag maaroo mahaa naad bhaaro |
ਇਤੈ ਸੁੰਭ ਨੈਸੁੰਭ ਦਾਨੋ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥
eitai sunbh naisunbh daano sanbhaaro |
Song of death was prevailing but Sunbh and NiSunbh were fully alert.
ਬਿੜਾਲਾਛ ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾਛ ਧੂਮ੍ਰਾਛ ਜੋਧੇ ॥
birraalaachh jvaalaachh dhoomraachh jodhe |
Both were fighting hard, as anyone who showed his back would get
ਹਟੇ ਨ ਹਠੀਲੇ ਕਿਸੂ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧੇ ॥੧੫॥
hatte na hattheele kisoo ke prabodhe |15|
ignominy in the eyes of his mother.(15)
ਪਰਿਯੋ ਲੋਹ ਗਾੜੋ ਮਹਾ ਖੇਤ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
pariyo loh gaarro mahaa khet bhaaree |
ਇਤੈ ਦੇਵ ਕੋਪੇ ਉਤੈ ਵੈ ਹਕਾਰੀ ॥
eitai dev kope utai vai hakaaree |
ਜੁਰੇ ਆਨਿ ਦੋਊ ਭੈਯਾ ਕੌਨ ਭਾਜੈ ॥
jure aan doaoo bhaiyaa kauan bhaajai |
ਚਲੇ ਭਾਜਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਮਾਤਾਨ ਲਾਜੈ ॥੧੬॥
chale bhaaj taa kee su maataan laajai |16|
ਜੁਰੇ ਆਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਭੈਯਾ ਕੌਨ ਹਾਰੈ ॥
jure aan bhaaee bhaiyaa kauan haarai |
ਮਰੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਪੈ ਪਾਵ ਪਾਛੇ ਨ ਡਾਰੈ ॥
marai saach pai paav paachhe na ddaarai |
ਭਰੇ ਛੋਭ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਹਾ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਨਾਚਿਯੋ ॥
bhare chhobh chhatree mahaa rudr naachiyo |
ਪਰਿਯੋ ਲੋਹ ਗਾੜੋ ਮਹਾ ਲੋਹ ਮਾਚਿਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
pariyo loh gaarro mahaa loh maachiyo |17|
ਹਠੇ ਐਠਿਯਾਰੇ ਹਠੀ ਐਂਠਿ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥
hatthe aitthiyaare hatthee aintth kai kai |
ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਸੌਡੀ ਮਹਾ ਹੀ ਰਿਸੈ ਕੈ ॥
mahaa judh sauaddee mahaa hee risai kai |
ਮਹਾ ਸੂਲ ਸੈਥੀਨ ਕੇ ਵਾਰ ਛੰਡੇ ॥
mahaa sool saitheen ke vaar chhandde |
ਇਤੇ ਦੈਤ ਬਾਕੇ ਉਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਮੰਡੇ ॥੧੮॥
eite dait baake ute dev mandde |18|
ਇਤੈ ਦੇਵ ਰੋਹੇ ਉਤੇ ਦੈਤ ਕੋਪੇ ॥
eitai dev rohe ute dait kope |
ਭਜੈ ਨਾਹਿ ਗਾੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਪਾਇ ਰੋਪੇ ॥
bhajai naeh gaarre prithee paae rope |
On one side the gods were getting irritated and on the other side the
ਤਬੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਜੂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਐਸੇ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tabai bisan joo mantr aise bichaariyo |
gods were keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਏਸ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
mahaa sundaree es ko bhes dhaariyo |19|
Vishnu recited such an incantation, that he, himself, tUrned into a pretty lady.(19)
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ਕਨ੍ਰਹਾਈ ॥
mahaa mohanee bhes dhaariyo kanrahaaee |
ਜਿਨੈ ਨੈਕ ਹੇਰਿਯੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੋ ਲੁਭਾਈ ॥
jinai naik heriyo rahiyo so lubhaaee |
He disguised as a great enticer; any body who looked at him was fascinated.
ਇਤੈ ਦੈਤ ਬਾਕੇ ਉਤੈ ਦੇਵ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
eitai dait baake utai dev sohai |
On one side were the gods and the other devils.
ਦੁਹੂ ਛੋਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੨੦॥
duhoo chhor deeno mahaa judh mohai |20|
Both, being allured by her looks, abandoned fighting.(20)

In the Sanctuary of the Guru, the Lord God saves and protects us,
ਜਿਉ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਤਦੂਐ ਪਕਰਿ ਚਲਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਊਪਰੁ ਕਢਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiau kunchar tadooai pakar chalaaeo kar aoopar kadt nisataare |1| rahaau |
as He protected the elephant, when the crocodile seized it and pulled it into the water; He lifted him up and pulled him out. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
prabh ke sevak bahut at neeke man saradhaa kar har dhaare |
God's servants are sublime and exalted; they enshrine faith for Him in their minds.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
mere prabh saradhaa bhagat man bhaavai jan kee paij savaare |1|
Faith and devotion are pleasing to my God's Mind; He saves the honor of His humble servants. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥
har har sevak sevaa laagai sabh dekhai braham pasaare |
The servant of the Lord, Har, Har, is committed to His service; He sees God pervading the entire expanse of the universe.
ਏਕੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
ek purakh ik nadaree aavai sabh ekaa nadar nihaare |2|
He sees the One and only Primal Lord God, who blesses all with His Glance of Grace. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਸਭੁ ਚੇਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥
har prabh tthaakur raviaa sabh tthaaee sabh cheree jagat samaare |
God, our Lord and Master, is permeating and pervading all places; He takes care of the whole world as His slave.
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

The Merciful Lord Himself mercifully gives His gifts, even to worms in stones. ||3||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮੁਸਕਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਮਿਰਗੁ ਸਿੰਙ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥
antar vaas bahut musakaaee bhram bhoolaa mirag singhaare |
Within the deer is the heavy fragrance of musk, but he is confused and deluded, and he shakes his horns looking for it.
ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਢੂਢਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
ban ban dtoodt dtoodt fir thaakee gur poorai ghar nisataare |4|
Wandering, rambling and roaming through the forests and woods, I exhausted myself, and then in my own home, the Perfect Guru saved me. ||4||
ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
baanee guroo guroo hai baanee vich baanee amrit saare |
The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar is contained.
ਗੁਰੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਹੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
gur baanee kahai sevak jan maanai paratakh guroo nisataare |5|
If His humble servant believes, and acts according to the Words of the Guru's Bani, then the Guru, in person, emancipates him. ||5||
ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਖਾਵਾਰੇ ॥
sabh hai braham braham hai pasariaa man beejiaa khaavaare |
All is God, and God is the whole expanse; man eats what he has planted.
ਜਿਉ ਜਨ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਹਾਂਸੁ ਦੁਖਿਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਸਟਬੁਧੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਲੂਕੀ ਜਾਰੇ ॥੬॥
jiau jan chandrahaans dukhiaa dhrisattabudhee apunaa ghar lookee jaare |6|
When Dhrishtabudhi tormented the humble devotee Chandrahaans, he only set his own house on fire. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਜਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਲੋਚੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥
prabh kau jan antar rid lochai prabh jan ke saas nihaare |
God's humble servant longs for Him within his heart; God watches over each breath of His humble servant.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਜਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
kripaa kripaa kar bhagat drirraae jan peechhai jag nisataare |7|
Mercifully, mercifully, He implants devotion within his humble servant; for his sake, God saves the whole world. ||7||
ਆਪਨ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
aapan aap aap prabh tthaakur prabh aape srisatt savaare |
God, our Lord and Master, is Himself by Himself; God Himself embellishes the universe.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੪॥
jan naanak aape aap sabh varatai kar kripaa aap nisataare |8|4|
O servant Nanak, He Himself is all-pervading; in His Mercy, He Himself emancipates all. ||8||4||

ਰਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥

Grant Your Grace, Lord, and save me,
ਜਿਉ ਪਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਦੁਸਟਾਂ ਆਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਜ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiau pakar dropatee dusattaan aanee har har laaj nivaare |1| rahaau |
as You saved Dropadi from shame when she was seized and brought before the court by the evil villians. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
kar kirapaa jaachik jan tere ik maagau daan piaare |
Bless me with Your Grace - I am just a humble beggar of Yours; I beg for a single blessing, O my Beloved.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਨਿਤ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
satigur kee nit saradhaa laagee mo kau har gur mel savaare |1|
I long constantly for the True Guru. Lead me to meet the Guru, O Lord, that I may be exalted and embellished. ||1||
ਸਾਕਤ ਕਰਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਉ ਮਥੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਝੋਲ ਝੁਲਾਰੇ ॥
saakat karam paanee jiau matheeai nit paanee jhol jhulaare |
The actions of the faithless cynic are like the churning of water; he churns, constantly churning only water.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਢਿ ਮਾਖਨ ਕੇ ਗਟਕਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
mil satasangat param pad paaeaa kadt maakhan ke gattakaare |2|
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the supreme status is obtained; the butter is produced, and eaten with delight. ||2||
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
nit nit kaaeaa majan keea nit mal mal deh savaare |
He may constantly and continually wash his body; he may constantly rub, clean and polish his body.
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਬਚਨ ਨ ਭਾਏ ਸਭ ਫੋਕਟ ਚਾਰ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
mere satigur ke man bachan na bhaae sabh fokatt chaar seegaare |3|
But if the Word of my True Guru is not pleasing to his mind, then all his preparations and beautiful decorations are useless. ||3||
ਮਟਕਿ ਮਟਕਿ ਚਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
mattak mattak chal sakhee sahelee mere tthaakur ke gun saare |
Walk playfully and carefree, O my friends and companions; cherish the Glorious Virtues of my Lord and Master.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਈ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
guramukh sevaa mere prabh bhaaee mai satigur alakh lakhaare |4|
To serve, as Gurmukh, is pleasing to my God. Through the True Guru, the unknown is known. ||4||
ਨਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭ ਨਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
naaree purakh purakh sabh naaree sabh eko purakh muraare |
Women and men, all the men and women, all came from the One Primal Lord God.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
sant janaa kee ren man bhaaee mil har jan har nisataare |5|
My mind loves the dust of the feet of the humble; the Lord emancipates those who meet with the Lord's humble servants. ||5||
ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਗਰ ਸਭ ਫਿਰਿਆ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਰੇ ॥
graam graam nagar sabh firiaa rid antar har jan bhaare |
From village to village, throughout all the cities I wandered; and then, inspired by the Lord's humble servants, I found Him deep within the nucleus of my heart.
ਸਰਧਾ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਾਇ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੬॥
saradhaa saradhaa upaae milaae mo kau har gur gur nisataare |6|
Faith and longing have welled up within me, and I have been blended with the Lord; the Guru, the Guru, has saved me. ||6||
ਪਵਨ ਸੂਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਨੀਕਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
pavan soot sabh neekaa kariaa satigur sabad veechaare |
The thread of my breath has been made totally sublime and pure; I contemplate the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੈਨਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
nij ghar jaae amrit ras peea bin nainaa jagat nihaare |7|
I came back to the home of my own inner self; drinking in the ambrosial essence, I see the world, without my eyes. ||7||
ਤਉ ਗੁਨ ਈਸ ਬਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਮੰਦਰ ਹਮ ਨਿਕ ਕੀਰੇ ॥
tau gun ees baran nahee saakau tum mandar ham nik keere |
I cannot describe Your Glorious Virtues, Lord; You are the temple, and I am just a tiny worm.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਮੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੮॥੫॥
naanak kripaa karahu gur melahu mai raam japat man dheere |8|5|
Bless Nanak with Your Mercy, and unite him with the Guru; meditating on my Lord, my mind is comforted and consoled. ||8||5||
