ਰਿਖੀ ਗੌਤਮ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਬਸੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਅਹਿਲ︀ਯਾ ਤ੍ਰੀਯ ॥
rikhee gauatam ban mai basai taeh ahilayaa treey |
The sage, Rishi Gautam lived in a jungle; Ahliya was his wife.
ਮਨਸਾ ਬਾਚਾ ਕਰਮਨਾ ਬਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ਪੀਯ ॥੧॥
manasaa baachaa karamanaa bas kar raakhiyo peey |1|
Through incantations, she had gained authority over her husband.(1)
ਸੁਰੀ ਆਸੁਰੀ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਰਨੀ ਤਾ ਸਮ ਔਰ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
suree aasuree kinranee taa sam aauar na koe |
Among wives of gods, devils, Kinners, there was none,
ਰੂਪਵਤੀ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਕ ਮੈ ਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
roopavatee trai lok mai taa see aaur na hoe |2|
As pretty as she through out the domain ofheaven.(2)
ਸਿਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੀਤਾ ਸਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
sivaa sachee seetaa satee taa ko roop nihaar |
Shiva’s consort, Saachi, Sita and other devout woman,
ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਟਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
rehat naar nihuraae kar nij ghatt roop bichaar |3|
Always looked towards her to correlate their beauty.(3)
ਗੌਤਮ ਰਿਖਿ ਕੇ ਦੇਵ ਸਭ ਗਏ ਕੌਨਹੂੰ ਕਾਜ ॥
gauatam rikh ke dev sabh ge kauanahoon kaaj |
On a special mission, all the gods called at Gautam Rishi.
ਰੂਪ ਅਹਿਲ︀ਯਾ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਜ ॥੪॥
roop ahilayaa ko nirakh reejh rahiyo sur raaj |4|
Reflecting upon the beauty of Ahliya, Lord Indra was charmed.(4)

ਬਾਸਵ ਕੀ ਛਬਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਤਿਯਾ ਹੂ ਬਸਿ ਭਈ ॥
baasav kee chhab her tiyaa hoo bas bhee |
Enticed by the handsomeness ofIndra, the women fell for him too,
ਬਿਰਹ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਬੂਡਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗਈ ॥
birah samund ke beech boodd sabh hee gee |
And she felt thoroughly drenched in the sea of separatio.
ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ਜੁ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਇਯੈ ॥
teen lok ko naath ju bhettan paaeiyai |
(She thought) ‘lfI attain this one who propels all the three domains,
ਹੋ ਜੋਬਨ ਜੜ ਮੁਨਿ ਤੀਰ ਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਯੈ ॥੫॥
ho joban jarr mun teer na brithaa gavaaeiyai |5|
‘Then, I will not waste my youth by living with this foolish sage.(5)

ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਮੋਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
tab abalaa sur raaj ke mohee roop nihaar |
This vulnerable lady was captivated with the magnanimity of Lord Indra,
ਹਰ ਅਰਿ ਸਰ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਹਨ︀ਯੌ ਘਾਯਲਿ ਭਈ ਸੁਮਾਰ ॥੬॥
har ar sar taa kau hanayau ghaayal bhee sumaar |6|
And Shiva was badly hurt through his adversary, (the Cupid).(6)

ਕੌਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਸੁਰੇਸਹਿ ਪੈਯੈ ॥

ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲੈਯੈ ॥
patthai sahacharee taeh bulaiyai |
‘What should I do to achieve him? Should I send my friend to call him?
ਏਕ ਰੈਨਿ ਜੌ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਊ ॥
ek rain jau bhettan paaoo |
ਤਾ ਪਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਸਖੀ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਊ ॥੭॥
taa par suno sakhee bal jaaoo |7|
‘Even if I get only one chance of meeting, then, listen my friend, I will be a sacrifice to him.(7)

ਜੋਗਨੇਸੁਰੀ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਸੋ ਤਿਨ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

She called her friend Jognesary,
ਸਕਲ ਭੇਦ ਸਮੁਝਾਇ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਦਈ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੮॥
sakal bhed samujhaae kai har prat dee patthaae |8|
She related her the secret and sent her to Lord Indra.(8)
ਜਾਇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਜ ਸੋ ਭੇਦ ਸਖੀ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
jaae kahiyo sur raaj so bhed sakhee samajhaae |
The friend went and conveyed the secret to Indra.
ਸੁਨਤ ਅਹਿਲ︀ਯਾ ਕੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਇ ॥੯॥
sunat ahilayaa kee brithaa reejh rahiyo sur raae |9|
Or learning the predicament of Ahliya, Indra was overwhelmed.(9)

Savaiyya
ਬਾਲਿ ਗਿਰੀ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿੰਦਿਯੋ ਨ ਦਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
baal giree bisanbhaar suno har bhaal bikhai bindiyo na diyo hai |
‘Oh, Lord Indra, listen, the lady has fainted and has not even put on the forehead dot.
ਟਾਮਨ ਸੋ ਕੇਹੂੰ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਿਨ ਆਜੁ ਲਗੇ ਨ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਿਯੌ ਹੈ ॥
ttaaman so kehoon taeh kariyo jin aaj lage na singaar kiyau hai |
‘As she has been affected by some one’s magical spell, she has not done any make-up.
ਬੀਰੀ ਚਬਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਸਖੀ ਪਰ ਪਾਇ ਰਹੀ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਪਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
beeree chabaae sakai na sakhee par paae rahee neh paan piyo hai |
‘In spite of ardent requests by her friends, she has not chewed any beetle nuts.
ਬੇਗਿ ਚਲੋ ਬਨਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਹਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਨਨਿ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
beg chalo ban baitthe kahaa man maanan ko mano mohi liyo hai |10|
‘Please come quick, what are you thinking, you have won over the heart of the sage’s wife.’(10)
ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਲਾਪ ਕਰੈ ਕਮਲਾਛਣਿ ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਨਿਸਾ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
kror kralaap karai kamalaachhan dayos nisaa kabahoon neh sovai |
ਸਾਪਿਨ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਸਸਕੈ ਛਿਤ ਊਪਰ ਲੋਕ ਕੀ ਲਾਜ ਸਭੈ ਹਠਿ ਖੋਵੇ ॥
saapin jayo sasakai chhit aoopar lok kee laaj sabhai hatth khove |
ਹਾਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਧਰੈ ਨਹਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਆਂਸ੍ਵਨ ਸੌ ਸਸਿ ਆਨਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
haar singaar dharai neh sundar aansvan sau sas aanan dhovai |
ਬੇਗਿ ਚਲੋ ਬਨਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਹਾ ਤਵ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਕੋ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਨ ਜੋਵੈ ॥੧੧॥
beg chalo ban baitthe kahaa tav maarag ko mun maanin jovai |11|
ਬਾਤ ਤਪੀਸ੍ਵਰਨਿ ਕੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਾਸਵ ਬੇਗਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਜਹਾ ਬਾਲ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
baat tapeesvaran kee sun baasav beg chaliyo jahaa baal bihaarai |
The Lord, conceding to this lady’s request, started to walk to the place where that Lady was.
ਬੀਰੀ ਚਬਾਇ ਸੁ ਬੇਖ ਬਨਾਇ ਸੁ ਬਾਰਹਿ ਬਾਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
beeree chabaae su bekh banaae su baareh baar singaar savaarai |
She had taken the beetle-nuts and had commenced embellishing herself, too.
ਘਾਤ ਪਛਾਨਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਤਿਤ ਕੌ ਮੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਕੇ ਤਾਪ ਝੁਕੈ ਝਿਝਕਾਰੈ ॥
ghaat pachhaan chaliyo tith kau mun sraap ke taap jhukai jhijhakaarai |
Afraid of getting sage’s curse, he walked very cautiously,
ਜਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਹਟਿਹੂੰ ਨ ਰਹੈ ਮਤਵਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਡਿਗੈ ਡਗ ਡਾਰੈ ॥੧੨॥
jaae sakai hattihoon na rahai matavaare kee bhaat ddigai ddag ddaarai |12|
Also as, on the one hand he was dreaded and, on the other, there was the lover’s allurement.(12)
ਬੇਗਿ ਮਿਲੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਿਤ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੇ ਜੂ ਆਜੁ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ਭਏ ਹੈਂ ॥
beg milo man bhaavit bhaavan payaare joo aaj tihaare bhe hain |
ਭੇਟਨ ਕੌ ਮਹਿਰਾਜ ਸਮੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਧਿਯਾਨ ਮੌ ਆਜੁ ਗਏ ਹੈਂ ॥
bhettan kau mahiraaj samai mun raaj dhiyaan mau aaj ge hain |
ਮੀਤ ਅਲਿੰਗਨ ਚੁੰਬਨ ਆਸਨ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕਨ ਆਨਿ ਲਏ ਹੈਂ ॥
meet alingan chunban aasan bhaat anekan aan le hain |
ਮੋਦ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਮਨਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਾ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਾਇ ਦਏ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੩॥
mod badtiyo man bhaaman ke mun jaa chit te bisaraae de hain |13|

ਬਨ︀ਯੋ ਠਨ੍ਰਯੋ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਘਨੋ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਕੋ ਰਾਇ ॥
banayo tthanrayo sundar ghano teen lok ko raae |
In came the orchestrator of three domains (Indra), dressed handsomely,
ਬਾਸਵ ਸੋ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮੁਨਿਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
baasav so pat paae triy munihi dayo bisaraae |14|
And by accepting him as her husband, she disregarded the sage.(14)
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

Savaiyya
ਸ੍ਰੋਨਨ ਮੋ ਖਰਕੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮੁਨਿ ਨਾਯਕ ਚੌਕਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sronan mo kharako sun kai tab hee mun naayak chauak pariyo hai |
Hearing the tidings, the supreme of the sages was astonished,
ਧਿਯਾਨ ਦਿਯੋ ਤਜਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਰਿਸ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਸਾਥ ਜਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
dhiyaan diyo taj ke sabh hee tab hee ris ke tan saath jariyo hai |
Abandoning all his tasks, he flew into a rage,
ਧਾਮ ਕੀ ਓਰ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਜ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਤਰ ਖਾਟ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
dhaam kee or chaliyo utth kai sur raaj lakhiyo tar khaatt duriyo hai |
He walked over to that house, and, seeing him, Indra hid under the bed.
ਚੌਕਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਚਿਤ ਮਾਝ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਯਹ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨਿਲਾਜ ਕੁਕਾਜ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
chauak rahiyo chit maajh kahiyo yeh kaahoon nilaaj kukaaj kariyo hai |15|
And he thought some shameless person had committed a hideous misdeed.(15)

ਰਿਖਿ ਗੋਤਮ ਰਿਸਿ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ਇਹ ਧਾਮ ॥
rikh gotam ris kai kahiyo ko aayo ih dhaam |
Rishi Gautam, in fury, asked who had come to this house.
ਤਬ ਤਿਹ ਅਸ ਉਤਰ ਦਿਯੋ ਰਿਖਹਿ ਬਿਹਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਮ ॥੧੬॥
tab tih as utar diyo rikheh bihas kar baam |16|
Then the wife responded laughingly,(16)

ਮਾਜਾਰ ਇਹ ਠਾ ਇਕ ਆਯੋ ॥
maajaar ih tthaa ik aayo |
ਤਮੁ ਕੌ ਹੇਰਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
tam kau her adhik ddar paayo |
‘A cat came in and it got dreaded so much on seeing you,
ਚਿਤ ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਸਤ ਖਾਟ ਤਰ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ॥
chit at trasat khaatt tar duriyo |
ਮੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਜੂ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
mai mun joo tuhi saach uchariyo |17|
‘That it hid under the bed. My dear Rishi, I am telling you the truth.’(17)
ਤੋਟਕ ਛੰਦ ॥

Totak Chhand
ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਕਛੁ ਨਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
mun raaj kachh neh bhed lahiyo |
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜੋ ਕਿਯ ਸੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਥ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
triy jo kiy so pat saath kahiyo |
Munni Raj could not revel and whatever the woman said, he accepted,
ਮਾਜਾਰ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ਇਹ ਖਾਟ ਤਰੈ ॥
maajaar duriyo ih khaatt tarai |
ਜਨੁ ਬਾਸਵ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੋਭ ਧਰੈ ॥੧੮॥
jan baasav kee sabh sobh dharai |18|
‘This cat, which is gone under the bed, just think, it is earning all the praises like (Lord) Indra.’(18)
ਇਹ ਆਜਿ ਮੁਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਕਰੋ ॥
eih aaj munee jin kop karo |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਤੀ ਜੁਤ ਜਾਨਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਤੁਮਰੋ ॥
grihatee jut jaan rahiyo tumaro |
‘Please, Munni, don’t be angry at this cat as it has come to stay here considering it as a (nice) household.
ਤੁਮ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਹੋਮ ਕਰੋ ॥
tum jaae tihee grih hom karo |
ਰਘੁਬੀਰ ਕਿ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਉਚਰੋ ॥੧੯॥
raghubeer ki naameh ko ucharo |19|
‘You better go away from the house, conduct an oblation and meditate upon the God’s Name.’(19)
ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਤਹੀ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਾਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
sun bain tahee mun jaat bhayo |
ਰਿਖਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ਦਯੋ ॥
rikh naar sures nikaar dayo |
Accepting this, the Rishi went away and the woman took Indra out.
ਕਈ ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਬਿਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਭੇਦ ਸੁਨ︀ਯੋ ॥
kee dayos bite tih bhed sunayo |
ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਿਸਿ ਕੈ ਨਿਜੁ ਸੀਸੁ ਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥੨੦॥
at hee ris kai nij sees dhunrayo |20|
A few days passed by and the Rishi learnt about the secret and shook his head in dismay.(20)
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਰਿਸਿ ਕੈ ਰਿਖਿ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
tab hee ris kai rikh sraap diyo |
ਸੁਰ ਨਾਯਕ ਕੌ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
sur naayak kau bhagavaan kiyo |
Then the sage invoked a curse and made Indra’s body abounded with vulva.
ਭਗ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਤਨ ਮੈ ॥
bhag taeh sahansr bhe tan mai |
ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸੇਸ ਲਜਾਇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥੨੧॥
tridases lajaae rahiyo man mai |21|
With thousands of vulvas in his body, extremely ashamed, Indra left for the jungle.(21)
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
jih simaran hoe mukat duaar |
Remembering Him in meditation, the door of liberation is found.
ਜਾਹਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
jaeh baikuntth nahee sansaar |
You shall go to heaven, and not return to this earth.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਬਜਾਵਹਿ ਤੂਰ ॥
nirbhau kai ghar bajaaveh toor |
In the home of the Fearless Lord, the celestial trumpets resound.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਜਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ॥੧॥
anahad bajeh sadaa bharapoor |1|
The unstruck sound current will vibrate and resonate forever. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
aisaa simaran kar man maeh |
Practice such meditative remembrance in your mind.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਤ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin simaran mukat kat naeh |1| rahaau |
Without this meditative remembrance, liberation will never be found. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਨਕਾਰੁ ॥
jih simaran naahee nanakaar |
Remembering Him in meditation, you will meet with no obstruction.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਉਤਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
mukat karai utarai bahu bhaar |
You will be liberated, and the great load will be taken away.
ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
namasakaar kar hiradai maeh |
Bow in humility within your heart,
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਵਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
fir fir teraa aavan naeh |2|
and you will not have to be reincarnated over and over again. ||2||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂ ਕੇਲ ॥
jih simaran kareh too kel |
Remember Him in meditation, celebrate and be happy.
ਦੀਪਕੁ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੇਲ ॥
deepak baandh dhario bin tel |
God has placed His lamp deep within you, which burns without any oil.
ਸੋ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਅਮਰਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
so deepak amarak sansaar |
That lamp makes the world immortal;
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾਢੀਲੇ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
kaam krodh bikh kaadteele maar |3|
it conquers and drives out the poisons of sexual desire and anger. ||3||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jih simaran teree gat hoe |
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall obtain salvation.
ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਰਖੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥
so simaran rakh kantth paroe |
Wear that meditative remembrance as your necklace.
ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
so simaran kar nahee raakh utaar |
Practice that meditative remembrance, and never let it go.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
gur parasaadee utareh paar |4|
By Guru's Grace, you shall cross over. ||4||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਾਨਿ ॥
jih simaran naahee tuhi kaan |
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall not be obligated to others.
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਤਾਨਿ ॥
mandar soveh pattanbar taan |
You shall sleep in your mansion, in blankets of silk.
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
sej sukhaalee bigasai jeeo |
Your soul shall blossom forth in happiness, on this comfortable bed.
ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਤੂ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪੀਉ ॥੫॥
so simaran too anadin peeo |5|
So drink in this meditative remembrance, night and day. ||5||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਇ ਬਲਾਇ ॥
jih simaran teree jaae balaae |
Remembering Him in meditation, your troubles will depart.
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੁਝੁ ਪੋਹੈ ਨ ਮਾਇ ॥
jih simaran tujh pohai na maae |
Remembering Him in meditation, Maya will not bother you.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
simar simar har har man gaaeeai |
Meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Lord, Har, Har, and sing His Praises in your mind.
ਇਹੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੬॥
eihu simaran satigur te paaeeai |6|

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
sadaa sadaa simar din raat |
Forever and ever, remember Him, day and night,
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ॥
aootthat baitthat saas giraas |
while standing up and sitting down, with every breath and morsel of food.
ਜਾਗੁ ਸੋਇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥
jaag soe simaran ras bhog |
While awake and asleep, enjoy the essence of this meditative remembrance.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੭॥

The Lord's meditative remembrance is obtained by good destiny. ||7||
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਝੁ ਭਾਰ ॥
jih simaran naahee tujh bhaar |
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall not be loaded down.
ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
so simaran raam naam adhaar |

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਅੰਤੁ ॥

Says Kabeer, He has no limits;

When I came to understand this mind, from the tips of my toes to the crown of my head,
ਤਬ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਨੑਾ ॥੧॥
tab antar majan keenaa |1|
then I took my cleansing bath, deep within my self. ||1||
ਪਵਨਪਤਿ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਖਰਾ ॥
pavanapat unaman rehan kharaa |
The mind, the master of the breath, abides in the state of supreme bliss.
ਨਹੀ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nahee mirat na janam jaraa |1| rahaau |
There is no death, no re-birth, and no aging for me now. ||1||Pause||
ਉਲਟੀ ਲੇ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਹਾਰੰ ॥
aulattee le sakat sahaaran |
Turning away from materialism, I have found intuitive support.
ਪੈਸੀਲੇ ਗਗਨ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥
paiseele gagan majhaaran |
I have entered into the sky of the mind, and opened the Tenth Gate.
ਬੇਧੀਅਲੇ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਭੁਅੰਗਾ ॥
bedheeale chakr bhuangaa |
The chakras of the coiled Kundalini energy have been opened,
ਭੇਟੀਅਲੇ ਰਾਇ ਨਿਸੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
bhetteeale raae nisangaa |2|
and I have met my Sovereign Lord King without fear. ||2||
ਚੂਕੀਅਲੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਇਆਸਾ ॥

My attachment to Maya has been eradicated;

the moon energy has devoured the sun energy.

When I was focused and merged into the all-pervading Lord,
ਤਹ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਬੀਣਾ ॥੩॥

then the unstruck sound current began to vibrate. ||3||
ਬਕਤੈ ਬਕਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਨਾਇਆ ॥
bakatai bak sabad sunaaeaa |
The Speaker has spoken, and proclaimed the Word of the Shabad.
ਸੁਨਤੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥
sunatai sun man basaaeaa |
The hearer has heard, and enshrined it in the mind.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੰ ॥
kar karataa utaras paaran |
Chanting to the Creator, one crosses over.
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਸਾਰੰ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥

Says Kabeer, this is the essence. ||4||1||10||
