ਮ੍ਰਿਗੀਅਹਿ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਰਸ ਨੈਨ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ॥
mrigeeeh te jaa ke saras nain biraajat sayaam |
Shyam (the poet) says, ‘The eyes like a she-deer predominated her looks.
ਜੀਤਿ ਲਈ ਸਸਿ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਸਸਿਯਾ ਨਾਮ ॥੭॥
jeet lee sas kee kalaa yaa te sasiyaa naam |7|
‘As she had won over Kala, the art of Shashi (the Moon), she was named Sassi Kala.(7)

All the people from the place came. They were playing musical instruments of various types.
ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲ ਗੀਤ ਸਭੈ ਸੁਭ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
mil mil geet sabhai subh gaaveh |
ਸਸਿਯਹਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥
sasiyeh her sabhai bal jaaveh |8|
In unison, they were singing and appreciating Sassi Kala.(8)

ਤਰੁਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਧਿ ਬਾਲਾ ਜਿਤੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਨ ਏਕ ॥੯॥
tarun bridh baalaa jitee grih meh rahee na ek |9|
music. All, the old and the young, came (to see her) and none remained back home.(9)

her roop duhoonan bal jaahee |
No damsel stayed behind at home and all were offering tributes to them both.
ਇਹ ਭੀਤਰ ਪੁੰਨੂ ਕਹੁ ਕੋ ਹੈ ॥
eih bheetar punoo kahu ko hai |
ਸਬਜ ਧਨੁਖ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਸੋਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
sabaj dhanukh jaa ke kar sohai |10|
And one was Punnu whose hands adored a green bow.(10)

ਢੋਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਬਜੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਘਰ ਯੌ ਪੁਰ ਆਜੁ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
dtol mridang baje sabh hee ghar yau pur aaj kulaahal bhaaree |
The drums and mirdang were being beaten and they were showering bliss in every home.
ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਤਾਲ ਦਿਵਾਵਤ ਆਵਤਿ ਨਾਗਰਿ ਗਾਰੀ ॥
gaavat geet bajaavat taal divaavat aavat naagar gaaree |
Musical tunes were flowing in unison, and the village people were coming forward.
ਭੇਰ ਹਜਾਰ ਬਜੀ ਇਕ ਬਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਛਬਿਯਾਰ ਹਸੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
bher hajaar bajee ik baar mahaa chhabiyaar hasai mil naaree |
Thousands of the trumpets were played and the women, jovially, frolicked around.
ਦੇਹਿ ਅਸੀਸ ਕਹੈਂ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਇਹ ਜੋਰੀ ਜਿਯੋ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥
dehi asees kahain jagadees ih joree jiyo jug chaar tihaaree |11|
They all were blessing that the couple might live for ever.(11)
ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ਲਖੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਪੁਰਬਾਸਿਨ ਕੌ ਉਪਜਿਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
roop apaar lakhai nrip ko purabaasin kau upajiyo sukh bhaaro |
Seeing the handsomeness of the Raja, the inhabitants were exhilarated.
ਭੀਰ ਭਈ ਨਰ ਨਾਰਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਸਭ ਸੋਕ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੋ ॥
bheer bhee nar naarin kee sabhahoon sabh sok bidaa kar ddaaro |
The men and the women swarmed after getting rid of all their afflictions
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁੰਨ︀ਯ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤੇ ਆਜੁ ਮਿਲਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਯਾਰੋ ॥
pooran punay prataap te aaj miliyo man bhaavat meet piyaaro |
Full contentment prevailed and all the friends felt their desires fulfilled.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਹੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸੁ ਬਾਲ ਜੀਓ ਪਤਿ ਲਾਲ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ॥੧੨॥
aavat jaeh kahai man maeh su baal jeeo pat laal tihaaro |12|
Coming and going they blessed, ‘Your love with your spouse may prevail for ever.’(12)
ਕੇਸਰਿ ਅੰਗ ਬਰਾਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਛਿਰਕੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਾਲ ਸੁ ਆਨੰਦ ਜੀ ਕੇ ॥
kesar ang baraatin ke chhirake mil baal su aanand jee ke |
Collectively, women sprinkled saffron over the men in the marriage party.
ਛੈਲਨਿ ਛੈਲ ਛਕੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਹਾਵਤ ਨੀਕੇ ॥
chhailan chhail chhake chahoon oran gaavat geet suhaavat neeke |
All the men and women were fully gratified and from both sides happy songs were emerging.
ਰਾਜ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਲਖੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਗਨ ਰਾਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਲਾਗਤ ਫੀਕੇ ॥
raaj ko roop lakhe at hee gan raajan ke sabh laagat feeke |
Seeing the magnanimity of the Raja, the other rulers were smitten with inferiority complex.
ਯੌ ਮੁਸਕਾਹਿ ਕਹੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਭੇ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਿਯਾਰੀ ਕੇ ਪੀ ਕੇ ॥੧੩॥
yau musakaeh kahai man maeh sabhe bal jaeh piyaaree ke pee ke |13|
And they all pronounced with one voice, ‘We are sacrifice to the lovely lady and her lover.’(13)
ਸਾਤ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਲੈ ਬਟਨੋ ਘਸਿ ਲਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਪਿਯ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਮੈ ॥
saat suhaagan lai battano ghas laavat hai piy ke tan mai |
Seven ladies came and applied watna, the beautifying body-lotion, to the suitor.
ਮੁਰਛਾਇ ਲੁਭਾਇ ਰਹੀ ਅਬਲਾ ਲਖਿ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਲਾਲ ਤਿਸੀ ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ॥
murachhaae lubhaae rahee abalaa lakh laalachee laal tisee chhin mai |
His sensual body was making them to swoon and ponder,
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਾਜ ਸੁ ਰਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਮੋ ਲਖਿ ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥
nrip raaj su raajat hai tin mo lakh yau upamaa upajee man mai |
‘How magnificently he is seated among the Rajas, and is being complimented.
ਸਜਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਬਰਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਜ ਨਛਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਗਨ ਮੈ ॥੧੪॥
saj saaj baraajat hai su mano nis raaj nachhatran ke gan mai |14|
‘He seems like the Moon enthroned amidst his subject of stars.’(14)
ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕੇ ਸੰਖ ਸੁਰੇਸ ਕੇ ਆਵਜ ਸੂਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਨੈ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ॥
sindh ke sankh sures ke aavaj soor ke naad sunai daravaaje |
‘The conch-shells taken out of the River Sindh are blown sweetly along with the Indra’s trumpets.
ਮੌਜਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਮਧੁਰੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਬਾਜੇ ॥
mauajan ke muralee madhuree dhun devan ke bahu dundabh baaje |
‘The sweet waves from the flutes are accompanying the drum-beats of the gods.
ਜੀਤ ਕੇ ਜੋਗ ਮਹੇਸਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਮੰਗਲ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੰਦਲ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
jeet ke jog mahesan ke mukh mangal ke grih mandal raaje |
‘It is the jovial atmosphere same as the ambience at the winning of war.’
ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਤਹੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਾਜ ਤਬੈ ਅਤਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਅਤਿ ਆਨਕ ਬਾਜੇ ॥੧੫॥
bayaah tahee nrip raaj tabai at aanand ke at aanak baaje |15|
As soon as the marriage took place, the blissful musical instruments showered the melodies.(15)
ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸੋ ਤਬ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀ ਬਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
bayaah bhayo jab hee ih so tab baat sunee nrip kee bar naaree |
As soon as the marriage had taken place, news reached the first wed, the principal Rani (of Punnu).
ਚੌਕਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਛੁ ਔਰ ਹੁਤੀ ਅਬ ਔਰ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
chauak rahee at hee chit mai kachh aauar hutee ab aauar bichaaree |
She was astonished and she changed her attitude towards the Raja.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਖਿ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਘਨੇ ਅਰੁ ਤੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਧਾਰੀ ॥
mantr kare likh jantr ghane ar tantran so ih baat sudhaaree |
She indulged in magical spell, and wrote mystical anecdotes to straighten the matter,
ਲਾਗੀ ਉਚਾਟ ਰਹੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਇ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੋ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
laagee uchaatt rahe chit mai kabahoon na suhaae piyaa ko piaaree |16|
And performed the spells so that the woman (Sassi) would not appease her husband and (he might) get red of her.(16)

ਯੌ ਉਚਾਟ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

She (Sassi) was discontented, she lost her sleep and her appetite was ruined.
ਸੋਤ ਉਠੈ ਚਕਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
sot utthai chak kachh na suhaavai |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਛੋਰਿ ਬਾਹਰੋ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧੭॥
grih ko chhor baaharo dhaavai |17|
She would suddenly awake and feel strange and would abandon her home to run out.(l7)

ਤਬ ਸਸਿਯਾ ਅਤਿ ਚਮਕਿ ਚਿਤ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਕਿਯੋ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
tab sasiyaa at chamak chit taa kau kiyo upaae |
Sassi became furious, planned in her heart,
ਸਖੀ ਜਿਤੀ ਸ︀ਯਾਨੀ ਹੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੧੮॥
sakhee jitee sayaanee hutee te sabh lee bulaae |18|
And called her all the sympathetic friends.(18)

ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
tudh jevadd daataa naeh kis aakh sunaaeeai |
You are the Great Giver; no other is as great as You. Unto whom should I speak and talk?
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇ ਜਿਥਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
gur parasaadee paae jithahu haumai jaaeeai |
By Guru's Grace, I find You; You eradicate egotism from within.
ਰਸ ਕਸ ਸਾਦਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥
ras kas saadaa baaharaa sachee vaddiaaeeai |
You are beyond sweet and salty flavors; True is Your glorious greatness.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
jis no bakhase tis dee aap le milaaeeai |
You bless those whom You forgive, and unite them with Yourself.
ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਈ ॥੯॥
ghatt antar amrit rakhion guramukh kisai piaaee |9|
You have placed the Ambrosial Nectar deep within the heart; the Gurmukh drinks it in. ||9||

ਬਾਬਾਣੀਆ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਪੁਤ ਸਪੁਤ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
baabaaneea kahaaneea put saput karen |
The stories of one's ancestors make the children good children.
ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਸੇਈ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
ji satigur bhaavai su man lain seee karam karen |
They accept what is pleasing to the Will of the True Guru, and act accordingly.
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬਿਆਸ ਸੁਕ ਨਾਰਦ ਬਚਨ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
jaae puchhahu simrit saasat biaas suk naarad bachan sabh srisatt karen |
Go and consult the Simritees, the Shaastras, the writings of Vyaas, Suk Dayv, Naarad, and all those who preach to the world.
ਸਚੈ ਲਾਏ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲੇਨਿ ॥
sachai laae sach lage sadaa sach samaalen |
Those, whom the True Lord attaches, are attached to the Truth; they contemplate the True Name forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਭਏ ਜਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇਨਿ ॥੧॥
naanak aae se paravaan bhe ji sagale kul taaren |1|
O Nanak, their coming into the world is approved; they redeem all their ancestors. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਸਿਖ ਭੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
guroo jinaa kaa andhulaa sikh bhee andhe karam karen |
The disciples whose teacher is blind, act blindly as well.
ਓਇ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲਨਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਨਿਤ ਝੂਠੋ ਝੂਠੁ ਬੋਲੇਨਿ ॥
oe bhaanai chalan aapanai nit jhoottho jhootth bolen |
They walk according to their own wills, and continually speak falsehood and lies.
ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
koorr kusat kamaavade par nindaa sadaa karen |
They practice falsehood and deception, and endlessly slander others.
ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੇਨਿ ॥
oe aap ddube par nindakaa sagale kul ddoben |
Slandering others, they drown themselves, and drown all their generations as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤੁ ਓਇ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗੇ ਉਇ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥੨॥
naanak jit oe laae tith lage ue bapurre kiaa karen |2|
O Nanak, whatever the Lord links them to, to that they are linked; what can the poor creatures do? ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਭ ਨਦਰੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਖਦਾ ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਕੀਤੀ ॥
sabh nadaree andar rakhadaa jetee sisatt sabh keetee |
He keeps all under His Gaze; He created the entire Universe.
ਇਕਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਕੁਸਤਿ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਵਿਗੂਤੀ ॥
eik koorr kusat laaeian manamukh vigootee |
He has linked some to falsehood and deception; these self-willed manmukhs are plundered.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ॥
guramukh sadaa dhiaaeeai andar har preetee |
The Gurmukhs meditate on the Lord forever; their inner beings are filled with love.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨੑ ਵਾਤਿ ਸਿਪੀਤੀ ॥
jin kau potai pun hai tina vaat sipeetee |
Those who have the treasure of virtue, chant the Praises of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਨਾਈ ॥੧੦॥
naanak naam dhiaaeeai sach sifat sanaaee |10|
O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, and the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||10||

ਸਤੀ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਤੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
satee paap kar sat kamaeh |
Men of charity gather wealth by committing sins, and then give it away in donations to charity.
ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਦੇਵਣ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
gur deekhiaa ghar devan jaeh |
Their spiritual teachers go to their homes to instruct them.
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਖਟਿਐ ਭਾਉ ॥
eisataree purakhai khattiai bhaau |
The woman loves the man only for his wealth;
ਭਾਵੈ ਆਵਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
bhaavai aavau bhaavai jaau |
they come and go as they please.
ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
saasat bed na maanai koe |
No one obeys the Shaastras or the Vedas.
ਆਪੋ ਆਪੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
aapo aapai poojaa hoe |
Everyone worships himself.
ਕਾਜੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਆਇ ॥
kaajee hoe kai bahai niaae |
Becoming judges, they sit and administer justice.
ਫੇਰੇ ਤਸਬੀ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥
fere tasabee kare khudaae |
They chant on their malas, and call upon God.
ਵਢੀ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਹਕੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
vadtee lai kai hak gavaae |
They accept bribes, and block justice.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਪੁਛੈ ਤਾ ਪੜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
je ko puchhai taa parr sunaae |
If someone asks them, they read quotations from their books.
ਤੁਰਕ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
turak mantru kan ridai samaeh |
The Muslim scriptures are in their ears and in their hearts.
ਲੋਕ ਮੁਹਾਵਹਿ ਚਾੜੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
lok muhaaveh chaarree khaeh |
They plunder the people, and engage in gossip and flattery.
ਚਉਕਾ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਸੁਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
chaukaa de kai suchaa hoe |
They anoint their kitchens to try to become pure.
ਐਸਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
aisaa hindoo vekhahu koe |
Behold, such is the Hindu.
ਜੋਗੀ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਜਟਾ ਬਿਭੂਤ ॥
jogee girahee jattaa bibhoot |
The Yogi, with matted hair and ashes on his body, has become a householder.
ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਪੂਤ ॥
aagai paachhai roveh poot |
The children weep in front of him and behind him.
ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jog na paaeaa jugat gavaaee |
He does not attain Yoga - he has lost his way.
ਕਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਈ ਪਾਈ ॥
kit kaaran sir chhaaee paaee |
Why does he apply ashes to his forehead?
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਲਿ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
naanak kal kaa ehu paravaan |
O Nanak, this is the sign of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga;
ਆਪੇ ਆਖਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
aape aakhan aape jaan |1|
everyone says that he himself knows. ||1||

First Mehl:
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਆਵੈ ॥
hindoo kai ghar hindoo aavai |
The Hindu comes to the house of a Hindu.
ਸੂਤੁ ਜਨੇਊ ਪੜਿ ਗਲਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
soot janeaoo parr gal paavai |
He puts the sacred thread around his neck and reads the scriptures.
ਸੂਤੁ ਪਾਇ ਕਰੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ॥
soot paae kare buriaaee |
He puts on the thread, but does evil deeds.
ਨਾਤਾ ਧੋਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
naataa dhotaa thaae na paaee |
His cleansings and washings will not be approved.
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
musalamaan kare vaddiaaee |
The Muslim glorifies his own faith.
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰੈ ਕੋ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
vin gur peerai ko thaae na paaee |
Without the Guru or a spiritual teacher, no one is accepted.
ਰਾਹੁ ਦਸਾਇ ਓਥੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
raahu dasaae othai ko jaae |
They may be shown the way, but only a few go there.
ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
karanee baajhahu bhisat na paae |
Without the karma of good actions, heaven is not attained.
ਜੋਗੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦਸਾਈ ॥
jogee kai ghar jugat dasaaee |
The Way of Yoga is demonstrated in the Yogi's monastery.
ਤਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕਨਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
tit kaaran kan mundraa paaee |
They wear ear-rings to show the way.
ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
mundraa paae firai sansaar |
Wearing ear-rings, they wander around the world.
ਜਿਥੈ ਕਿਥੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
jithai kithai sirajanahaar |
The Creator Lord is everywhere.
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਾਟਾਊ ॥
jete jeea tete vaattaaoo |
There are as many travellers as there are beings.
ਚੀਰੀ ਆਈ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਕਾਊ ॥
cheeree aaee dtil na kaaoo |
When one's death warrant is issued, there is no delay.
ਏਥੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਿਞਾਣੈ ॥
ethai jaanai su jaae siyaanai |
One who knows the Lord here, realizes Him there as well.
ਹੋਰੁ ਫਕੜੁ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ ॥
hor fakarr hindoo musalamaanai |
Others, whether Hindu or Muslim, are just babbling.
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabhanaa kaa dar lekhaa hoe |
Everyone's account is read in the Court of the Lord;
ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
karanee baajhahu tarai na koe |
without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
sacho sach vakhaanai koe |
One who speaks the True Name of the True Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਗੈ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak agai puchh na hoe |2|
O Nanak, is not called to account hereafter. ||2||
