ਪੁਰ ਲੋਗਨ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
pur logan sabhahoon sun paaee |
Then he narrated the entire story, which people listened attentively.
ਲੈ ਦੂਜੀ ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
lai doojee kanayaa tih deenee |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਮਿਲ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੩੪॥
bhaat bhaat usatat mil keenee |34|
They gave him another damsel and praised him in various ways.(34)
ਔਰ ਸਕਲ ਪੁਰ ਛੋਰਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
aauar sakal pur chhor ubaariyo |
ਨਊਆ ਸੁਤ ਚਿਮਟਿਯੋ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
naooaa sut chimattiyo hee maariyo |
Then the Shah’s son emancipated the whole village.
ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਦੂਸਰੋ ਅਪਨੋ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
bayaah doosaro apano keeno |
ਨਿਜੁ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਮਗੁ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੩੫॥
nij pur ko bahuro mag leeno |35|
He married second time and took the way to his village.(35)(1)

ਚਪਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਡੋ ਰਾਜ ਕਲਾ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
chapal singh raajaa baddo raaj kalaa tih naar |
There was once a great Raja and Raj Kala was his wife.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਵ ਰੀਝੇ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਨਿ ਸਚੀ ਅਨੁਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
eindr dev reejhe rahai jaan sachee anuhaar |1|
There was none like her; even, the god Indra fancied her.(l)
ਸੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਇਕ ਚੋਰ ਸੋ ਰਮ︀ਯੋ ਕਰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ॥
so raanee ik chor so ramayo karat din rain |
That Rani, day in and day out, used to make love with a thief.
ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ਨਿਜੁ ਸਦਨ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਹ ਐਨ ॥੨॥
taeh bulaavai nij sadan aap jaae tih ain |2|
She used to call him at her house, and, herself, often went to his residence as well.(2)
ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਆਵਤ ਸਦਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਰ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
ek divas aavat sadan nrip bar lakhiyo banaae |
One day Raja, when he was proceeding to her house, he saw him.
ਲੂਟਿ ਕੂਟਿ ਤਸਕਰ ਲਯੋ ਸੂਰੀ ਦਿਯੋ ਚਰਾਇ ॥੩॥
loott koott tasakar layo sooree diyo charaae |3|
He beat the thief severely and ordered him to be hanged.(3)
ਜਬ ਸ੍ਰੋਨਤ ਭਭਕੋ ਉਠਤ ਤਬ ਆਖੈ ਖੁਲਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jab sronat bhabhako utthat tab aakhai khul jaeh |
Whenever the pain pinched him, he regained awareness.
ਜਬੈ ਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਤਰ ਕੋ ਰਮੈ ਕਛੂ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
jabai svaas tar ko ramai kachhoo rahai sudh naeh |4|
But after a few breaths he would become unconscious again.(4)

ਰਾਨੀ ਜਬ ਬਤਿਯਾ ਸੁਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
raanee jab batiyaa sun paaee |
ਤਸਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਕਹ ਧਾਈ ॥
tasakar ke milabe keh dhaaee |
When the Rani heard this she immediately ran out to see him.
ਜਬ ਸ੍ਰੋਨਤ ਊਰਧ ਤਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
jab sronat aooradh tih aayo |
ਛੁਟੀ ਆਖਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੫॥
chhuttee aakh darasan triy paayo |5|
When the blood spurted out and h~ regained consciousness, he saw the woman.(5)
ਤਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਤਿਹ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
tab raanee tih bachan uchaare |
ਸੁਨੁ ਤਸਕਰ ਮਮ ਬੈਨ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੇ ॥
sun tasakar mam bain payaare |
Then she said, ‘Listen thief, I say it you with love,
ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੁ ਕਰੋ ॥
jo kachh aagayaa dehu su karo |
ਤੁਮ ਬਿਨ ਮਾਰ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਮਰੋ ॥੬॥
tum bin maar kattaaree maro |6|
‘That I could not live. Without you, I will kill myself.’(6)
ਤਬ ਤਸਕਰ ਯੌ ਬੈਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
tab tasakar yau bain uchaare |
ਯਹੈ ਹੋਸ ਮਨ ਰਹੀ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
yahai hos man rahee hamaare |
Then the thief spoke, ‘I have a desire in my heart,
ਮਰਤ ਸਮੈ ਚੁੰਬਨ ਤਵ ਕਰੋ ॥
marat samai chunban tav karo |
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਯਾ ਸੂਰੀ ਪਰ ਮਰੋ ॥੭॥
bahuro yaa sooree par maro |7|
‘That I may kiss you and then go up for hanging.’(7)
ਜਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਚੁੰਬਨ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
jab raanee chunban tih deeno |
ਸ੍ਰੋਨ ਭਭਾਕੈ ਤਸਕਰ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
sron bhabhaakai tasakar keeno |
When Rani kissed him, a stream of blood gushed out of the nose.
ਤਬ ਤਸਕਰ ਕੋ ਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਰਿ ਗਯੋ ॥
tab tasakar ko mukh jur gayo |
ਨਾਕ ਕਾਟ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੋ ਲਯੋ ॥੮॥
naak kaatt raanee ko layo |8|
The thief’s mouth shut (with force) and the Rani’s nose was cut.(8)

ਜਬ ਤਸਕਰ ਚੁੰਬਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਤਤਕਾਲ ॥
jab tasakar chunban kariyo praan taje tatakaal |
Immediately after taking the kiss, his soul departed for heavens.
ਨਾਕ ਕਟਿਯੋ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਭਈ ਬਿਹਾਲ ॥੯॥
naak kattiyo mukh mai rahiyo raanee bhee bihaal |9|
The cut (piece) of the (Rani’s) nose remained in his mouth, and the Rani became desperate.(9)

ਨਾਕ ਕਟਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਘਰ ਆਈ ॥

ਜੋਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
jor nripat ko baat sunaaee |
With the nose cut, the woman came home.
ਕਾਟ ਨਾਕ ਸਿਵ ਭੋਜਨ ਚਰਾਯੋ ॥
kaatt naak siv bhojan charaayo |
ਸੋ ਨਹਿ ਲਗ︀ਯੋ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਯੌ ਭਾਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
so neh lagayo rudr yau bhaayo |10|
She told the Raja that, ‘I cut my nose to present to (Lord) Shiva, because it pleased (Lord) Shiva immensely.’
ਪੁਨ ਸਿਵਜੂ ਯੌ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
pun sivajoo yau bachan uchaaro |
ਚੋਰ ਬਕ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਨਾਕ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ॥
chor bakr mai naak tihaaro |
‘But Shiva Jee spoke thus, “Your nose has been put in the mouth of a thief.”
ਤੁਰਹੁ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਕਾਢ ਮੰਗੈਯੈ ॥
turahu tahaa te kaadt mangaiyai |
ਆਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੇ ਬਕ੍ਰ ਲਗੈਯੈ ॥੧੧॥
aan triyaa ke bakr lagaiyai |11|
“Go, take out immediately and put it on the face of the woman.”(11)

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਹਿਮਾ ਨ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਬੇਦ ॥
mahimaa na jaaneh bed |
The Vedas do not know His greatness.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਭੇਦ ॥
brahame nahee jaaneh bhed |
Brahma does not know His mystery.
ਅਵਤਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
avataar na jaaneh ant |
Incarnated beings do not know His limit.
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ॥੧॥
paramesar paarabraham beant |1|
The Transcendent Lord, the Supreme Lord God, is infinite. ||1||
ਅਪਨੀ ਗਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
apanee gat aap jaanai |
Only He Himself knows His own state.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਅਵਰ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sun sun avar vakhaanai |1| rahaau |
Others speak of Him only by hearsay. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਕਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਭੇਵ ॥
sankaraa nahee jaaneh bhev |
Shiva does not know His mystery.
ਖੋਜਤ ਹਾਰੇ ਦੇਵ ॥
khojat haare dev |
The gods gave grown weary of searching for Him.
ਦੇਵੀਆ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਮਰਮ ॥
deveea nahee jaanai maram |
The goddesses do not know His mystery.
ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੨॥
sabh aoopar alakh paarabraham |2|
Above all is the unseen, Supreme Lord God. ||2||
ਅਪਨੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੇਲ ॥
apanai rang karataa kel |
The Creator Lord plays His own plays.
ਆਪਿ ਬਿਛੋਰੈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲ ॥
aap bichhorai aape mel |
He Himself separates, and He Himself unites.
ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮੇ ਇਕਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਏ ॥
eik bharame ik bhagatee laae |
Some wander around, while others are linked to His devotional worship.
ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਜਣਾਏ ॥੩॥
apanaa keea aap janaae |3|
By His actions, He makes Himself known. ||3||
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਖੀ ॥
santan kee sun saachee saakhee |
Listen to the true story of the Saints.
ਸੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਜੋ ਪੇਖਹਿ ਆਖੀ ॥
so boleh jo pekheh aakhee |
They speak only of what they see with their eyes.
ਨਹੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਪਿ ॥
nahee lep tis pun na paap |
He is not involved with virtue or vice.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥੨੫॥੩੬॥
naanak kaa prabh aape aap |4|25|36|
Nanak's God is Himself all-in-all. ||4||25||36||

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਕਿਛਹੂ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਕੀਓ ਜਾਨਿ ॥
kichhahoo kaaj na keeo jaan |
I have not tried to do anything through knowledge.
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਿ ॥
surat mat naahee kichh giaan |
I have no knowledge, intelligence or spiritual wisdom.
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਸੀਲ ਨਹੀ ਧਰਮ ॥
jaap taap seel nahee dharam |
I have not practiced chanting, deep meditation, humility or righteousness.
ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਰਮ ॥੧॥
kichhoo na jaanau kaisaa karam |1|
I know nothing of such good karma. ||1||
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
tthaakur preetam prabh mere |
O my Beloved God, my Lord and Master,
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਭੂਲਹ ਚੂਕਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tujh bin doojaa avar na koee bhoolah chookah prabh tere |1| rahaau |
there is none other than You. Even though I wander and make mistakes, I am still Yours, God. ||1||Pause||
ਰਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
ridh na budh na sidh pragaas |
I have no wealth, no intelligence, no miraculous spiritual powers; I am not enlightened.
ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਕੇ ਗਾਵ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਸੁ ॥
bikhai biaadh ke gaav meh baas |
I dwell in the village of corruption and sickness.
ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ॥
karanahaar mere prabh ek |
O my One Creator Lord God,
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਟੇਕ ॥੨॥
naam tere kee man meh ttek |2|
Your Name is the support of my mind. ||2||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਉ ਮਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
sun sun jeevau man ihu bisraam |
Hearing, hearing Your Name, I live; this is my mind's consolation.
ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
paap khanddan prabh tero naam |
Your Name, God, is the Destroyer of sins.
ਤੂ ਅਗਨਤੁ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
too aganat jeea kaa daataa |
You, O Limitless Lord, are the Giver of the soul.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਣਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
jiseh janaaveh tin too jaataa |3|
He alone knows You, unto whom You reveal Yourself. ||3||
ਜੋ ਉਪਾਇਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥
jo upaaeo tis teree aas |
Whoever has been created, rests his hopes in You.
ਸਗਲ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥
sagal araadheh prabh gunataas |
All worship and adore You, God, O treasure of excellence.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
naanak daas terai kurabaan |
Slave Nanak is a sacrifice to You.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੩੭॥
beant saahib meraa miharavaan |4|26|37|
My merciful Lord and Master is infinite. ||4||26||37||

The Savior Lord is merciful.
ਕੋਟਿ ਭਵ ਖੰਡੇ ਨਿਮਖ ਖਿਆਲ ॥
kott bhav khandde nimakh khiaal |
Millions of incarnations are eradicated in an instant, contemplating the Lord.
ਸਗਲ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਜੰਤ ॥
sagal araadheh jant |
All beings worship and adore Him.
ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਤ ॥੧॥
mileeai prabh gur mil mant |1|
Receiving the Guru's Mantra, one meets God. ||1||
ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ॥
jeean ko daataa meraa prabh |
My God is the Giver of souls.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pooran paramesur suaamee ghatt ghatt raataa meraa prabh |1| rahaau |
The Perfect Transcendent Lord Master, my God, imbues each and every heart. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਹੀ ਮਨ ਓਟ ॥
taa kee gahee man ott |
My mind has grasped His Support.
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ਛੋਟ ॥
bandhan te hoee chhott |
My bonds have been shattered.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਪਿ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥
hiradai jap paramaanand |
Within my heart, I meditate on the Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss.
ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੨॥
man maeh bhe anand |2|
My mind is filled with ecstasy. ||2||
ਤਾਰਣ ਤਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣ ॥
taaran taran har saran |
The Lord's Sanctuary is the boat to carry us across.
ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ॥
jeevan roop har charan |
The Lord's Feet are the embodiment of life itself.
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
santan ke praan adhaar |
They are the Support of the breath of life of the Saints.
ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੩॥
aooche te aooch apaar |3|
God is infinite, the highest of the high. ||3||
ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
su mat saar jit har simareejai |
That mind is excellent and sublime, which meditates in remembrance on the Lord.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
kar kirapaa jis aape deejai |
In His Mercy, the Lord Himself bestows it.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
sookh sehaj aanand har naau |
Peace, intuitive poise and bliss are found in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੩੮॥
naanak japiaa gur mil naau |4|27|38|
Meeting with the Guru, Nanak chants the Name. ||4||27||38||
