ਜੁ ਮੈ ਤੁਮੈ ਸਿਵ ਬਾਨੀ ਕਹੀ ॥
ju mai tumai siv baanee kahee |
‘What I told you about Shiva’s utterances,
ਵਹੈ ਬਾਤ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲਹੀ ॥
vahai baat tumare grih lahee |
‘I have seen that happening in your house.
ਛੋਰਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਿ ਤੁਰਤ ਨਿਹਾਰਹੁ ॥
chhor sasatr chal turat nihaarahu |
ਕਛੂ ਕੋਪ ਨਹਿ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਹੁ ॥੧੦॥
kachhoo kop neh hridai bichaarahu |10|
‘Now leaving the Shastras come with me, and please don’t get angry.’(10)

ਤੁਰਤ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਗਯੋ ਕੇਲ ਕਰਤ ਜਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਯ ॥
turat bachan sun nrip gayo kel karat jeh treey |
On learning this, Raja immediately reached there where the ladies were making-love.
ਸਿਵ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਠਟਕਿ ਰਹਤ ਭਯੋ ਜੀਯ ॥੧੧॥
siv ke bachan sanbhaar kai tthattak rehat bhayo jeey |11|
Observing the utterances of Shiva coming true, he was astounded.(11)

ਮੁਹਿ ਜੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸਿਵ ਬੈਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
muhi ju triyaa siv bain uchaare |
ਸਾਚ ਭਏ ਵਹ ਧਾਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
saach bhe veh dhaam hamaare |
Be thought, ‘Whatever Shiva predicted, is being proved true in my own house.
ਰੂਪ ਮਤੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
roop matee muhi jhootth na kahiyo |
ਅਬ ਸੋ ਸਾਚ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
ab so saach tavan ko lahiyo |12|
‘Roop Kala was after all not telling lies. I have recognised her truthfulness now.’(12)

ਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਦੀਨੇ ਜਾਰ ਉਠਾਇ ॥
rat kar kai sabh hee triyan deene jaar utthaae |
After making love all the woman were sent away,
ਆਪੁ ਆਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬਹਿਗੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
aap aan nrip so kahiyo bahigee baat banaae |13|
And Rani herself came and sat near the Raja.(13)
ਜੋ ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬਾਤ ਅਬ ਵਹੈ ਲਹੀ ॥
jo mai tum so nrip kahiyo baat ab vahai lahee |
‘My Raja, as I told you, it did transpire that way.
ਕੋਪ ਨ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਸਿਵ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਹੀ ॥੧੪॥
kop na chit mai keejiyahu siv ke bachan sahee |14|
‘And now never get angry at Shiva, because his utterances are true.’(l4)
ਕਿੰਨਰ ਜਛ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਗਨ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ॥
kinar jachh bhujang gan nar mun dev adev |
Kinnar, Jachh, Bhujang, Gann, Humans and Ascetics, all types of gods,
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਰੰਚ ਨ ਚੀਨਤ ਭੇਵ ॥੧੫॥

ਸਾਹੁ ਏਕ ਗੁਜਰਾਤ ਕੋ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਇਕ ਪੂਤ ॥
saahu ek gujaraat ko taa ke grih ik poot |
There lived a Shah in Gujarat, who had a son.
ਸੌਦਾ ਕੌ ਚੌਕਸ ਕਰੈ ਪਿਤੁ ਤੇ ਭਯੋ ਸਪੂਤ ॥੧॥
sauadaa kau chauakas karai pit te bhayo sapoot |1|
He was an obedient boy and was very alert in business.(1)
ਨਾਊ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਪ︀ਯਾਰ ॥
naaoo ke ik putr so taa ko rahai payaar |
He esteemed the son of a barber,
ਸੂਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਊ ਏਕਸੋ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੨॥
soorat mai doaoo ekaso koaoo na sakai bichaar |2|
And they looked alike so much that no one could distinguish.(2)

ਸਾਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸਸੁਰਾਰੇ ਚਲੋ ॥

ਸੰਗ ਲਏ ਨਊਆ ਸੁਤ ਭਲੋ ॥
sang le naooaa sut bhalo |
Shah’s son took barber’s son with him to his in-laws.
ਗਹਿਰੇ ਬਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਦੋਊ ਗਏ ॥
gahire ban bheetar doaoo ge |
ਬਚਨ ਕਹਤ ਨਊਆ ਸੁਤ ਭਏ ॥੩॥
bachan kehat naooaa sut bhe |3|
When they were passing through the thick jungle, the barber’s son called him.(3)
ਨਊਆ ਕੇ ਸੁਤ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
naooaa ke sut bachan uchaare |
ਸੁਨੋ ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਤ ਬੈਨ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
suno saahu sut bain hamaare |
Barber’s son said, ‘Listen, you the son of Shah,
ਤਬ ਹੌ ਯਾਰ ਤੁਮੈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੌ ॥
tab hau yaar tumai pahichaanau |
ਮੇਰੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਅਬੈ ਜੌ ਮਾਨੌ ॥੪॥
mere kahiyo abai jau maanau |4|
‘I accept your friendship only if you do me a favour.(4)

ਅਸ੍ਵ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਤਨਕਿਕ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਦੇਹੁ ॥
asv basatr sabh apane tanakik mo ko dehu |
‘You give me your horse and all your clothes,
ਯਹ ਬੁਗਚਾ ਤੁਮ ਲੈ ਚਲੌ ਚਲਿ ਆਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥੫॥
yeh bugachaa tum lai chalau chal aage fir lehu |5|
‘And taking this bundle you walk in front of me.’(5)

ਸਾਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਈ ਤਬ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਬੁਗਚਾ ਨਿਜੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥
taa kau bugachaa nij sir dhariyo |
The son of Shah acted as told and put the bundle over his head.
ਨਿਜੁ ਘੋਰਾ ਪੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਰਾਯੋ ॥
nij ghoraa pai taeh charaayo |
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਪਹਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੬॥
apune basatran so pahiraayo |6|
He (Shah’s son) made him to ride his horse and put on him (barber’s Son) his clothes.(6)
ਨਊਆ ਸੁਤ ਤਿਹ ਭੇਖ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
naooaa sut tih bhekh banaayo |
ਦੇ ਬੁਗਚਾ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਹੁ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
de bugachaa sut saahu chalaayo |
The barber’s son disguised himself and giving him his bundle made him to walk.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਹਰਖਾਨੋ ॥
taa ko at hee chit harakhaano |
ਸਾਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਛੁ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਨੋ ॥੭॥
saahu putr kachh bhed na jaano |7|
He felt very happy but the Shah’s son could not understand the secret.(7)

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
beej mantru har keeratan gaau |
Sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and the Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra.
ਆਗੈ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥
aagai milee nithaave thaau |
Even the homeless find a home in the world hereafter.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
gur poore kee charanee laag |
Fall at the feet of the Perfect Guru;
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
janam janam kaa soeaa jaag |1|
you have slept for so many incarnations - wake up! ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਲਾ ॥
har har jaap japalaa |
Chant the Chant of the Lord's Name, Har, Har.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸੈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kirapaa te hiradai vaasai bhaujal paar paralaa |1| rahaau |
By Guru's Grace, it shall be enshrined within your heart, and you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਅਟਲ ॥
naam nidhaan dhiaae man attal |
Meditate on the eternal treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mind,
ਤਾ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਪਟਲ ॥
taa chhootteh maaeaa ke pattal |
and then, the screen of Maya shall be torn away.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad amrit ras peeo |
Drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Guru's Shabad,
ਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
taa teraa hoe niramal jeeo |2|
and then your soul shall be rendered immaculate and pure. ||2||
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
sodhat sodhat sodh beechaaraa |
Searching, searching, searching, I have realized
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
bin har bhagat nahee chhuttakaaraa |
that without devotional worship of the Lord, no one is saved.
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
so har bhajan saadh kai sang |
So vibrate, and meditate on that Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
man tan raapai har kai rang |3|
your mind and body shall be imbued with love for the Lord. ||3||
ਛੋਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
chhodd siaanap bahu chaturaaee |
Renounce all your cleverness and trickery.
ਮਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
man bin har naavai jaae na kaaee |
O mind, without the Lord's Name, there is no place of rest.
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਗੋੁਸਾਈ ॥
deaa dhaaree govid gousaaee |
The Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World, has taken pity on me.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੭॥
har har naanak ttek ttikaaee |4|16|27|
Nanak seeks the protection and support of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||16||27||
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਕੇਲ ॥
sant kai sang raam rang kel |
In the Saints' Congregation, play joyfully with the Lord,
ਆਗੈ ਜਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲ ॥
aagai jam siau hoe na mel |
and you will not have to meet the Messenger of Death hereafter.
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
ahanbudh kaa bheaa binaas |
Your egotistical intellect shall be dispelled,
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਗਲੀ ਨਾਸ ॥੧॥
duramat hoee sagalee naas |1|
and your evil-mindedness will be totally taken away. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥
raam naam gun gaae panddit |
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name, O Pandit.
ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕਾਜੈ ਕੁਸਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karam kaandd ahankaar na kaajai kusal setee ghar jaeh panddit |1| rahaau |
Religious rituals and egotism are of no use at all. You shall go home with happiness, O Pandit. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਲੀਆ ਲਾਭ ॥
har kaa jas nidh leea laabh |
I have earned the profit, the wealth of the Lord's praise.
ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਾਭ ॥
pooran bhe manorath saabh |
All my hopes have been fulfilled.
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
dukh naatthaa sukh ghar meh aaeaa |
Pain has left me, and peace has come to my home.
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sant prasaad kamal bigasaaeaa |2|
By the Grace of the Saints, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
naam ratan jin paaeaa daan |
One who is blessed with the gift of the jewel of the Name,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਹੋਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
tis jan hoe sagal nidhaan |
obtains all treasures.
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਆਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
santokh aaeaa man pooraa paae |
His mind becomes content, finding the Perfect Lord.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
fir fir maagan kaahe jaae |3|
Why should he ever go begging again? ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਤ ਪਵਿਤ ॥
har kee kathaa sunat pavit |
Hearing the Lord's sermon, he becomes pure and holy.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਬਕਤ ਪਾਈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ॥
jihavaa bakat paaee gat mat |
Chanting it with his tongue, he finds the way to salvation.
ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
so paravaan jis ridai vasaaee |
He alone is approved, who enshrines the Lord within his heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੮॥
naanak te jan aootam bhaaee |4|17|28|
Nanak: such a humble being is exalted, O Siblings of Destiny. ||4||17||28||

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਗਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਕਰੀ ਨ ਆਈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
gahu kar pakaree na aaee haath |
No matter how hard you try to grab it, it does not come into your hands.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਚਾਲੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
preet karee chaalee nahee saath |
No matter how much you may love it, it does not go along with you.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦਈ ॥
kahu naanak jau tiaag dee |
Says Nanak, when you abandon it,
ਤਬ ਓਹ ਚਰਣੀ ਆਇ ਪਈ ॥੧॥
tab oeh charanee aae pee |1|
then it comes and falls at your feet. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
sun santahu niramal beechaar |
Listen, O Saints: this is the pure philosophy.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam bin gat nahee kaaee gur pooraa bhettat udhaar |1| rahaau |
Without the Lord's Name, there is no salvation. Meeting with the Perfect Guru, one is saved. ||1||Pause||
ਜਬ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਕੋਈ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jab us kau koee devai maan |
When someone tries to appease her,
ਤਬ ਆਪਸ ਊਪਰਿ ਰਖੈ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
tab aapas aoopar rakhai gumaan |
then she takes pride in herself.
ਜਬ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਕੋਈ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
jab us kau koee man paraharai |
But when someone puts her out of his thoughts,
ਤਬ ਓਹ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥
tab oeh sevak sevaa karai |2|
then she serves him like a slave. ||2||
ਮੁਖਿ ਬੇਰਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਠਗਾਵੈ ॥
mukh beraavai ant tthagaavai |
She seems to please, but in the end, she deceives.
ਇਕਤੁ ਠਉਰ ਓਹ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
eikat tthaur oeh kahee na samaavai |
She does not remain in any one place.
ਉਨਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥
aun mohe bahute brahamandd |
She has bewitched a great many worlds.
ਰਾਮ ਜਨੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ॥੩॥
raam janee keenee khandd khandd |3|
The Lord's humble servants cut her apart into pieces. ||3||
ਜੋ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਭੂਖਾ ਰਹੈ ॥
jo maagai so bhookhaa rahai |
Whoever begs from her remains hungry.
ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ਸੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲਹੈ ॥
eis sang raachai su kachhoo na lahai |
Whoever is infatuated with her obtains nothing.
ਇਸਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
eiseh tiaag satasangat karai |
But one who renounces her, and joins the Society of the Saints,
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੨੯॥
vaddabhaagee naanak ohu tarai |4|18|29|
by great good fortune, O Nanak, is saved. ||4||18||29||
