ਗਲਂ‍ੀ ਅਸੀ ਚੰਗੀਆ ਆਚਾਰੀ ਬੁਰੀਆਹ ॥

galanee asee changeea aachaaree bureeaah |

We are good at talking, but our actions are bad.

ਮਨਹੁ ਕੁਸੁਧਾ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਚਿਟਵੀਆਹ ॥

manahu kusudhaa kaaleea baahar chittaveeaah |

Mentally, we are impure and black, but outwardly, we appear white.

ਰੀਸਾ ਕਰਿਹ ਤਿਨਾੜੀਆ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰੁ ਖੜੀਆਹ ॥

reesaa karih tinaarreea jo seveh dar kharreeaah |

We imitate those who stand and serve at the Lord's Door.

ਨਾਲਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਰਤੀਆ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਲੀਆਹ ॥

naal khasamai rateea maaneh sukh raleeaah |

They are attuned to the Love of their Husband Lord, and they experience the pleasure of His Love.

ਹੋਦੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਨਿਤਾਣੀਆ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਮਾਨਣੀਆਹ ॥

hodai taan nitaaneea raheh nimaananeeaah |

They remain powerless, even while they have power; they remain humble and meek.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਹ ॥੨॥

naanak janam sakaarathaa je tin kai sang milaah |2|

O Nanak, our lives become profitable if we associate with them. ||2||

Pauree:

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਲੁ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਲੁ ॥

toon aape jal meenaa hai aape aape hee aap jaal |

You Yourself are the water, You Yourself are the fish, and You Yourself are the net.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲੁ ਵਤਾਇਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੇਬਾਲੁ ॥

toon aape jaal vataaeidaa aape vich sebaal |

You Yourself cast the net, and You Yourself are the bait.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੈ ਹਥਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ॥

toon aape kamal alipat hai sai hathaa vich gulaal |

You Yourself are the lotus, unaffected and still brightly-colored in hundreds of feet of water.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਘੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਖਿਆਲੁ ॥

toon aape mukat karaaeidaa ik nimakh gharree kar khiaal |

You Yourself liberate those who think of You for even an instant.

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਵੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੭॥

har tudhahu baahar kichh nahee gurasabadee vekh nihaal |7|

O Lord, nothing is beyond You. I am delighted to behold You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥

hukam na jaanai bahutaa rovai |

One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੋਖਾ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥

andar dhokhaa need na sovai |

She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.

ਜੇ ਧਨ ਖਸਮੈ ਚਲੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥

je dhan khasamai chalai rajaaee |

But if the soul-bride follows the Will of her Lord and Master,

ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥

dar ghar sobhaa mehal bulaaee |

She shall be honored in her own home, and called to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

naanak karamee ih mat paaee |

O Nanak, by His Mercy, this understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥

gur parasaadee sach samaaee |1|

By Guru's Grace, she is absorbed into the True One. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੁ ॥

manamukh naam vihooniaa rang kasunbhaa dekh na bhul |

O self-willed manmukh, devoid of the Naam, do not be misled upon beholding the color of the safflower.

ਇਸ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜਿਆ ਛੋਛਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੁ ॥

eis kaa rang din thorriaa chhochhaa is daa mul |

Its color lasts for only a few days-it is worthless!

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

doojai lage pach mue moorakh andh gavaar |

Attached to duality, the foolish, blind and stupid people waste away and die.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ ਸੇ ਪਇ ਪਚਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥

bisattaa andar keett se pe pacheh vaaro vaar |

Like worms, they live in manure, and in it, they die over and over again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

naanak naam rate se rangule gur kai sehaj subhaae |

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are dyed in the color of truth; they take on the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.

ਭਗਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

bhagatee rang na utarai sahaje rahai samaae |2|

The color of devotional worship does not fade away; they remain intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||2||

Pauree:

ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿਆ ॥

sisatt upaaee sabh tudh aape rijak sanbaahiaa |

You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.

ਇਕਿ ਵਲੁ ਛਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਵਦੇ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥

eik val chhal kar kai khaavade muhahu koorr kusat tinee dtaahiaa |

Some eat and survive by practicing fraud and deceit; from their mouths they drop falsehood and lies.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਓਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਓਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

tudh aape bhaavai so kareh tudh otai kam oe laaeaa |

As it pleases You, You assign them their tasks.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਅਤੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦੇਵਾਇਆ ॥

eikanaa sach bujhaaeon tinaa atutt bhanddaar devaaeaa |

Some understand Truthfulness; they are given the inexhaustible treasure.

ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਅਚੇਤਾ ਹਥ ਤਡਾਇਆ ॥੮॥

har chet khaeh tinaa safal hai achetaa hath taddaaeaa |8|

Those who eat by remembering the Lord are prosperous, while those who do not remember Him stretch out their hands in need. ||8||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥

parr parr panddit bed vakhaaneh maaeaa moh suaae |

The Pandits, the religious scholars, constantly read and recite the Vedas, for the sake of the love of Maya.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

doojai bhaae har naam visaariaa man moorakh milai sajaae |

In the love of duality, the foolish people have forgotten the Lord's Name; they shall receive their punishment.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ॥

jin jeeo pindd ditaa tis kabahoon na chetai jo dendaa rijak sanbaeh |

They never think of the One who gave them body and soul, who provides sustenance to all.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

jam kaa faahaa galahu na katteeai fir fir aavai jaae |

The noose of death shall not be cut away from their necks; they shall come and go in reincarnation over and over again.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

manamukh kichhoo na soojhai andhule poorab likhiaa kamaae |

The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything. They do what they are pre-ordained to do.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

poorai bhaag satigur milai sukhadaataa naam vasai man aae |

Through perfect destiny, they meet the True Guru, the Giver of peace, and the Naam comes to abide in the mind.

ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

sukh maaneh sukh painanaa sukhe sukh vihaae |

They enjoy peace, they wear peace, and they pass their lives in the peace of peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

naanak so naau manahu na visaareeai jit dar sachai sobhaa paae |1|

O Nanak, they do not forget the Naam from the mind; they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

DOHRA,

ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਨੈਨ ਜਬ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਦੇਵੀ ਇਹ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥

dhoomr nain jab maario devee ih parakaar |

When the goddess killed Dhumar Lochan in this way,

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੈਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਚੈਨ ਹੁਇ ਕੀਨੋ ਹਾਹਾਕਾਰ ॥੧੦੦॥

asur sain bin chain hue keeno haahaakaar |100|

The army of the demons, being confounded, greatly lamented.100.,

SWAYYA,

ਸੋਰੁ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਜਬ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਤਚੀ ਅਖੀਆਂ ॥

sor sunio jab daitan ko tab chandd prachandd tachee akheean |

When the powerful Chandi heard the furore of the demons, her eyes bhecame red with anger.,

ਹਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਛੁਟਿਓ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਟੂਟਿ ਖਗੇਸ ਗਈ ਪਖੀਆਂ ॥

har dhiaan chhuttio mun ko sun kai dhun ttoott khages gee pakheean |

The contemplation of Shiva was broken by the noise and being perturbed slackened the winged flight.,

ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਜੁਆਲ ਬਢੀ ਬੜਵਾਨਲ ਜਿਉ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਲਖੀਆਂ ॥

drig juaal badtee barravaanal jiau kav ne upamaa tih kee lakheean |

With the fire from the eyes of the goddess, the army of the demons was reduced to ashes, the poet imagined this anloty.,

ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰ ਭਇਓ ਦਲੁ ਦਾਨਵ ਕੋ ਜਿਮੁ ਘੂਮਿ ਹਲਾਹਲ ਕੀ ਮਖੀਆਂ ॥੧੦੧॥

sabh chhaar bheo dal daanav ko jim ghoom halaahal kee makheean |101|

All the demon-army was reduced to ashes just as the bees are destroyed by the poisonous somoke.101.,

Third Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

satigur sev sukh paaeaa sach naam gunataas |

Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained. The True Name is the Treasure of Excellence.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

guramatee aap pachhaaniaa raam naam paragaas |

Follow the Guru's Teachings, and recognize your own self; the Divine Light of the Lord's Name shall shine within.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

sacho sach kamaavanaa vaddiaaee vadde paas |

The true ones practice Truth; greatness rests in the Great Lord.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

jeeo pindd sabh tis kaa sifat kare aradaas |

Body, soul and all things belong to the Lord-praise Him, and offer your prayers to Him.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

sachai sabad saalaahanaa sukhe sukh nivaas |

Sing the Praises of the True Lord through the Word of His Shabad, and you shall abide in the peace of peace.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥

jap tap sanjam manai maeh bin naavai dhrig jeevaas |

You may practice chanting, penance and austere self-discipline within your mind, but without the Name, life is useless.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥

guramatee naau paaeeai manamukh mohi vinaas |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Name is obtained, while the self-willed manmukh wastes away in emotional attachment.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੨॥

jiau bhaavai tiau raakh toon naanak teraa daas |2|

Please protect me, by the Pleasure of Your Will. Nanak is Your slave. ||2||

Chandi Charittar Ukat BilasGuru Guru Gobind Singh

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

doharaa |

DOHRA,

ਅਉਰ ਸਕਲ ਸੈਨਾ ਜਰੀ ਬਚਿਓ ਸੁ ਏਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੁ ॥

aaur sakal sainaa jaree bachio su ekai pret |

All the other army was burnt except the single demon.,

ਚੰਡਿ ਬਚਾਇਓ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਅਉਰਨ ਮਾਰਨ ਹੇਤੁ ॥੧੦੨॥

chandd bachaaeo jaan kai aauran maaran het |102|

Chandi had deliberately saved him in order to kill others.102.,

ਭਾਜਿ ਨਿਸਾਚਰ ਮੰਦ ਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਸੁੰਭ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

bhaaj nisaachar mand mat kahee sunbh peh jaae |

The foolish demon ran away and told the king sumbh,

ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਨੈਨ ਸੈਨਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਚੰਡਿ ਖਪਾਇ ॥੧੦੩॥

dhoomr nain sainaa sahit ddaario chandd khapaae |103|

“Chandi hath destroyed Dhumar Lochan alongwith his army.103.,

ਸਕਲ ਕਟੇ ਭਟ ਕਟਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਕ ਰਥ ਹੈ ਕੁੰਭ ॥

sakal katte bhatt kattak ke paaeik rath hai kunbh |

“All the warriors of the army, those on foot, on chariots, horses and elephants have been killed.”,

ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਚਨ ਅਚਰਜ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਓ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁੰਭ ॥੧੦੪॥

yau sun bachan acharaj hvai kop keeo nrip sunbh |104|

Hearing these words and in astonishment, the king Sumbh became furious.104.,

ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਦੈਤ ਤਬ ਲੀਨੇ ਸੁੰਭਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ॥

chandd mundd dvai dait tab leene sunbh hakaar |

Then the king called two demons Chand and Mund,

ਚਲਿ ਆਏ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਅਸਿ ਢਾਰ ॥੧੦੫॥

chal aae nrip sabhaa meh kar leene as dtaar |105|

Who came in the king’s court, holding sword and shield in their hands. 105.,

ਅਭਬੰਦਨ ਦੋਨੋ ਕੀਓ ਬੈਠਾਏ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੀਰਿ ॥

abhabandan dono keeo baitthaae nrip teer |

Both of them bowed in obeisance to the king, who asked them to sit near him.,

ਪਾਨ ਦਏ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹਿਓ ਤੁਮ ਦੋਨੋ ਮਮ ਬੀਰ ॥੧੦੬॥

paan de mukh te kahio tum dono mam beer |106|

And presenting them the seasoned and folded betel leaf, he uttered thus from his mouth, “Both of you are great heroes.”106.

ਨਿਜ ਕਟ ਕੋ ਫੈਂਟਾ ਦਇਓ ਅਰੁ ਜਮਧਰ ਕਰਵਾਰ ॥

nij katt ko fainttaa deo ar jamadhar karavaar |

The king gave them his waist-girdle, dagger and sword (and said),

ਲਿਆਵਹੁ ਚੰਡੀ ਬਾਧ ਕੈ ਨਾਤਰ ਡਾਰੋ ਮਾਰ ॥੧੦੭॥

liaavahu chanddee baadh kai naatar ddaaro maar |107|

“Arrest and bring Chandi otherwise kill her.”107.,
