saajan purakh satigur meraa pooraa tis bin avar na jaanaa raam |
My Perfect True Guru is my Best Friend, the Primal Being. I do not know any other than Him, Lord.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
maat pitaa bhaaee sut bandhap jeea praan man bhaanaa raam |
He is my mother, father, sibling, child, relative, soul and breath of life. He is so pleasing to my mind, O Lord.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
jeeo pindd sabh tis kaa deea sarab gunaa bharapoore |
My body and soul are all His blessings. He is overflowing with every quality of virtue.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
antarajaamee so prabh meraa sarab rahiaa bharapoore |
My God is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. He is totally permeating and pervading everywhere.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣਾ ॥
taa kee saran sarab sukh paae hoe sarab kaliaanaa |
In His Sanctuary, I receive every comfort and pleasure. I am totally, completely happy.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
sadaa sadaa prabh kau balihaarai naanak sad kurabaanaa |1|
Forever and ever, Nanak is a sacrifice to God, forever, a devoted sacrifice. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
aisaa gur vaddabhaagee paaeeai jit miliai prabh jaapai raam |
By great good fortune, one finds such a Guru, meeting whom, the Lord God is known.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਧੂੜੀ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਪੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
janam janam ke kilavikh utareh har sant dhoorree nit naapai raam |
The sins of countless lifetimes are erased, bathing continually in the dust of the feet of God's Saints.
ਹਰਿ ਧੂੜੀ ਨਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਈਐ ॥
har dhoorree naaeeai prabhoo dhiaaeeai baahurr jon na aaeeai |
Bathing in the dust of the feet of the Lord, and meditating on God, you shall not have to enter into the womb of reincarnation again.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gur charanee laage bhram bhau bhaage man chindiaa fal paaeeai |
Grasping hold of the Guru's Feet, doubt and fear are dispelled, and you receive the fruits of your mind's desires.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਫਿਰਿ ਸੋਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
har gun nit gaae naam dhiaae fir sog naahee santaapai |
Continually singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall no longer suffer in pain and sorrow.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ॥੨॥
naanak so prabh jeea kaa daataa pooraa jis parataapai |2|
O Nanak, God is the Giver of all souls; His radiant glory is perfect! ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
har hare har gun nidhe har santan kai vas aae raam |
The Lord, Har, Har, is the treasure of virtue; the Lord is under the power of His Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਚਰਣ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਪਰਮ ਪਦ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
sant charan gur sevaa laage tinee param pad paae raam |
Those who are dedicated to the feet of the Saints, and to serving the Guru, obtain the supreme status, O Lord.
ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
param pad paaeaa aap mittaaeaa har pooran kirapaa dhaaree |
They obtain the supreme status, and eradicate self-conceit; the Perfect Lord showers His Grace upon them.
ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
safal janam hoaa bhau bhaagaa har bhettiaa ek muraaree |
Their lives are fruitful, their fears are dispelled, and they meet the One Lord, the Destroyer of ego.
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
jis kaa saa tin hee mel leea jotee jot samaaeaa |
He blends into the One, to whom he belongs; his light merges into the Light.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
naanak naam niranjan japeeai mil satigur sukh paaeaa |3|
O Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Immaculate Lord; meeting the True Guru, peace is obtained. ||3||
ਗਾਉ ਮੰਗਲੋ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਹੁ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਇਛ ਸਬਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
gaau mangalo nit har janahu punee ichh sabaaee raam |
Sing continually the songs of joy, O humble beings of the Lord; all your desires shall be fulfilled.
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
rang rate apune suaamee setee marai na aavai jaaee raam |
Those who are imbued with the Love of their Lord and Master do not die, or come or go in reincarnation.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪਾਏ ॥
abinaasee paaeaa naam dhiaaeaa sagal manorath paae |
The Imperishable Lord is obtained, meditating on the Naam, and all one's wishes are fulfilled.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
saant sehaj aanand ghanere gur charanee man laae |
Peace, poise, and all ecstasy are obtained, attaching one's mind to the Guru's feet.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਈ ॥
poor rahiaa ghatt ghatt abinaasee thaan thanantar saaee |
The Imperishable Lord is permeating and pervading each and every heart; He is in all places and interspaces.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥
kahu naanak kaaraj sagale poore gur charanee man laaee |4|2|5|
Says Nanak, all affairs are perfectly resolved, focusing one's mind on the Guru's Feet. ||4||2||5||

kar kirapaa mere preetam suaamee netr dekheh daras teraa raam |
Be Merciful, O my Beloved Lord and Master, that I may behold the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan with my eyes.
ਲਾਖ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਦੇਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
laakh jihavaa dehu mere piaare mukh har aaraadhe meraa raam |
Please bless me, O my Beloved, with thousands of tongues, to worship and adore You with my mouth, O Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਸਾਧੇ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
har aaraadhe jam panth saadhe dookh na viaapai koee |
Worshipping the Lord in adoration, the Path of Death is overcome, and no pain or suffering will afflict you.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਤ ਸੋਈ ॥
jal thal maheeal pooran suaamee jat dekhaa tat soee |
The Lord and Master is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the sky; wherever I look, there He is.
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਠੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰ ਹੂ ਤੇ ਨੇਰਾ ॥
bharam moh bikaar naatthe prabh ner hoo te neraa |
Doubt, attachment and corruption are gone. God is the nearest of the near.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
naanak kau prabh kirapaa keejai netr dekheh daras teraa |1|
Please bless Nanak with Your Merciful Grace, O God, that his eyes may behold the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1||
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਨ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
kott karan deejeh prabh preetam har gun suneeeh abinaasee raam |
Please bless me, O Beloved God, with millions of ears, with which I may hear the Glorious Praises of the Imperishable Lord.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਟੀਐ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
sun sun ihu man niramal hovai katteeai kaal kee faasee raam |
Listening, listening to these, this mind becomes spotless and pure, and the noose of Death is cut.
ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸਗਲ ਮੰਗਲ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
katteeai jam faasee simar abinaasee sagal mangal sugiaanaa |
The noose of Death is cut, meditating on the Imperishable Lord, and all happiness and wisdom are obtained.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
har har jap japeeai din raatee laagai sehaj dhiaanaa |
Chant, and meditate, day and night, on the Lord, Har, Har. Focus your meditation on the Celestial Lord.
ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਸੀ ॥
kalamal dukh jaare prabhoo chitaare man kee duramat naasee |
The painful sins are burnt away, by keeping God in one's thoughts; evil-mindedness is erased.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੨॥
kahu naanak prabh kirapaa keejai har gun suneeeh avinaasee |2|
Says Nanak, O God, please be Merciful to me, that I may listen to Your Glorious Praises, O Imperishable Lord. ||2||
ਕਰੋੜਿ ਹਸਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਚਰਣ ਚਲਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
karorr hasat teree ttehal kamaaveh charan chaleh prabh maarag raam |
Please give me millions of hands to serve You, God, and let my feet walk on Your Path.
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਾਵ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਚੜੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਾਰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhav saagar naav har sevaa jo charrai tis taarag raam |
Service to the Lord is the boat to carry us across the terrifying world-ocean.
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
bhavajal tariaa har har simariaa sagal manorath poore |
So cross over the terrifying world-ocean, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Har, Har; all wishes shall be fulfilled.
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਗਏ ਸੁਖ ਉਪਜੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥
mahaa bikaar ge sukh upaje baaje anahad toore |
Even the worst corruption is taken away; peace wells up, and the unstruck celestial harmony vibrates and resounds.
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੀਮ ਅਪਾਰਗਿ ॥
man baanchhat fal paae sagale kudarat keem apaarag |
All the fruits of the mind's desires are obtained; His creative power is infinitely valuable.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਲੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ॥੩॥
kahu naanak prabh kirapaa keejai man sadaa chalai terai maarag |3|
Says Nanak, please be Merciful to me, God, that my mind may follow Your Path forever. ||3||
ਏਹੋ ਵਰੁ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
eho var ehaa vaddiaaee ihu dhan hoe vaddabhaagaa raam |
This opportunity, this glorious greatness, this blessing and wealth, come by great good fortune.
ਏਹੋ ਰੰਗੁ ਏਹੋ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
eho rang eho ras bhogaa har charanee man laagaa raam |
These pleasures, these delightful enjoyments, come when my mind is attached to the Lord's Feet.
ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਚਰਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
man laagaa charane prabh kee sarane karan kaaran gopaalaa |
My mind is attached to God's Feet; I seek His Sanctuary. He is the Creator, the Cause of causes, the Cherisher of the world.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
sabh kichh teraa too prabh meraa mere tthaakur deen deaalaa |
Everything is Yours; You are my God, O my Lord and Master, Merciful to the meek.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
mohi niragun preetam sukh saagar santasang man jaagaa |
I am worthless, O my Beloved, ocean of peace. In the Saints' Congregation, my mind is awakened.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਨੑੀ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥
kahu naanak prabh kirapaa keenaee charan kamal man laagaa |4|3|6|
Says Nanak, God has been Merciful to me; my mind is attached to His Lotus Feet. ||4||3||6||
