ਤਰੁ ਰੁਹ ਪ੍ਰਿਸਠਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਰੌ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
tar ruh prisatthan pratham hee mukh te karau uchaar |
ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਚੀਨਿ ਚਤੁਰ ਨਿਰਧਾਰ ॥੭੧੫॥
naam tupak ke hot hai cheen chatur niradhaar |715|
Saying the words “Taru-ruha-prashthani”, O wise men! the names of Tupak may be comprehended.715.
ਸੁਕਬਿ ਬਕਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਕੁੰਦਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਥਮੈ ਕਰੋ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
sukab bakatr te kundanee prathamai karo uchaar |
ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਲੀਜਹੁ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਸਵਾਰ ॥੭੧੬॥
naam tupak ke hot hai leejahu sumat savaar |716|
O good poet, utter the word “Kundani” from your mouth, from which the names of Tupak are formed correctly.716.

ਕਾਸਟ ਕੁੰਦਨੀ ਆਦਿ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ॥

ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਚੀਨ ਚਤੁਰ ਚਿਤ ਲੀਜੀਐ ॥
naam tupak ke cheen chatur chit leejeeai |
The names of Tupak are recognized by uttering the words “Kaashth-Kundani”
ਬ੍ਰਿਛਜ ਬਾਸਨੀ ਸਬਦ ਬਕਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਭਾਖੀਐ ॥
brichhaj baasanee sabad bakatr te bhaakheeai |
ਹੋ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਜਾਨਿ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮੈ ਰਾਖੀਐ ॥੭੧੭॥
ho naam tupak ke jaan hridai mai raakheeai |717|
Saying the words “Vraksh-jawaasini” from the mouth, the names of Tupak are know in the heart.717.
ਧਰਏਸ ਰਜਾ ਸਬਦ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਬਖਾਨੀਐ ॥
dhares rajaa sabad su ant bakhaaneeai |
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੇ ਕੁੰਦਨੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਦ ਠਾਨੀਐ ॥
taa paachhe kundanee bahur pad tthaaneeai |
Saying the words “Dhar-Ishwarjaa” and then adding the word “Kundani” after it,
ਸੁਕਬਿ ਸਭੈ ਚਿਤ ਮਾਝ ਸੁ ਸਾਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੀਯੋ ॥
sukab sabhai chit maajh su saach bichaareeyo |
ਹੋ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਸਕਲ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਉਚਾਰੀਯੋ ॥੭੧੮॥
ho naam tupak ke sakal nisank uchaareeyo |718|
O good poets! comprehend it ad true and utter the names of Tupak unhesitatingly.718.
ਤਰੁਜ ਬਾਸਨੀ ਆਦਿ ਸੁ ਸਬਦ ਬਖਾਨੀਐ ॥
taruj baasanee aad su sabad bakhaaneeai |
ਨਾਮ ਤੁਪਕ ਕੇ ਸਕਲ ਸੁਕਬਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥
naam tupak ke sakal sukab man maaneeai |
By uttering the word “Tarujawaasini”, all the names of Tupak are comprehended in mind.
ਯਾ ਮੈ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮੈ ਕੀਜੀਐ ॥
yaa mai sank na kachhoo hridai mai keejeeai |
ਹੋ ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਚਹੋ ਤਹ ਦੀਜੀਐ ॥੭੧੯॥
ho jahaa jahaa ih naam chaho teh deejeeai |719|
Have no doubt about it in your heart and whatever you want, you may use this name.719.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਕਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕਾ ਥੋੜੜਿਆ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
kachaa rang kasunbh kaa thorrarriaa din chaar jeeo |
The color of safflower is transitory; it lasts for only a few days.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੀਆ ਠਗਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
vin naavai bhram bhuleea tthag mutthee koorriaar jeeo |
Without the Name, the false woman is deluded by doubt and plundered by thieves.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
sache setee ratiaa janam na doojee vaar jeeo |1|
But those who are attuned to the True Lord, are not reincarnated again. ||1||
ਰੰਗੇ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
range kaa kiaa rangeeai jo rate rang laae jeeo |
How can one who is already dyed in the color of the Lord's Love, be colored any other color?
ਰੰਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rangan vaalaa seveeai sache siau chit laae jeeo |1| rahaau |
So serve God the Dyer, and focus your consciousness on the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਜੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
chaare kunddaa je bhaveh bin bhaagaa dhan naeh jeeo |
You wander around in the four directions, but without the good fortune of destiny, you shall never obtain wealth.
ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਧਿਕ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
avagan mutthee je fireh badhik thaae na paeh jeeo |
If you are plundered by corruption and vice, you shall wander around, but like a fugitive, you shall find no place of rest.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
gur raakhe se ubare sabad rate man maeh jeeo |2|
Only those who are protected by the Guru are saved; their minds are attuned to the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਚਿਟੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤ ਕਠੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥
chitte jin ke kaparre maile chit katthor jeeo |
Those who wear white clothes, but have filthy and stone-hearted minds,
ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਚੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥
tin mukh naam na aoopajai doojai viaape chor jeeo |
may chant the Lord's Name with their mouths, but they are engrossed in duality; they are thieves.
ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਸੇ ਢੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
mool na boojheh aapanaa se pasooaa se dtor jeeo |3|
They do not understand their own roots; they are beasts. They are just animals! ||3||
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥
nit nit khuseea man kare nit nit mangai sukh jeeo |
Constantly, continually, the mortal seeks pleasures. Constantly, continually, he begs for peace.
ਕਰਤਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥
karataa chit na aavee fir fir lageh dukh jeeo |
But he does not think of the Creator Lord, and so he is overtaken by pain, again and again.
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
sukh dukh daataa man vasai tith tan kaisee bhukh jeeo |4|
But one, within whose mind the Giver of pleasure and pain dwells - how can his body feel any need? ||4||
ਬਾਕੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਲਬੀਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
baakee vaalaa talabeeai sir maare jandaar jeeo |
One who has a karmic debt to pay off is summoned, and the Messenger of Death smashes his head.
ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਦੇਵਣਾ ਪੁਛੈ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
lekhaa mangai devanaa puchhai kar beechaar jeeo |
When his account is called for, it has to be given. After it is reviewed, payment is demanded.
ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਉਬਰੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥
sache kee liv ubarai bakhase bakhasanahaar jeeo |5|
Only love for the True One will save you; the Forgiver forgives. ||5||
ਅਨ ਕੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਿਤੜਾ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
an ko keejai mitarraa khaak ralai mar jaae jeeo |
If you make any friend other than God, you shall die and mingle with the dust.
ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
bahu rang dekh bhulaaeaa bhul bhul aavai jaae jeeo |
Gazing upon the many games of love, you are beguiled and bewildered; you come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥
nadar prabhoo te chhutteeai nadaree mel milaae jeeo |6|
Only by God's Grace can you be saved. By His Grace, He unites in His Union. ||6||
ਗਾਫਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
gaafal giaan vihooniaa gur bin giaan na bhaal jeeo |
O careless one, you are totally lacking any wisdom; do not seek wisdom without the Guru.
ਖਿੰਚੋਤਾਣਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
khinchotaan vigucheeai buraa bhalaa due naal jeeo |
By indecision and inner conflict, you shall come to ruin. Good and bad both pull at you.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭੈ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥
bin sabadai bhai ratiaa sabh johee jamakaal jeeo |7|
Without being attuned to the Word of the Shabad and the Fear of God, all come under the gaze of the Messenger of Death. ||7||
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
jin kar kaaran dhaariaa sabhasai dee aadhaar jeeo |
He who created the creation and sustains it, gives sustenance to all.
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
so kiau manahu visaareeai sadaa sadaa daataar jeeo |
How can you forget Him from your mind? He is the Great Giver, forever and ever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥
naanak naam na veesarai nidhaaraa aadhaar jeeo |8|1|2|
Nanak shall never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Support of the unsupported. ||8||1||2||
ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਕਾਫੀ ਘਰੁ ੧੦ ॥

Soohee, First Mehl, Kaafee, Tenth House:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
maanas janam dulanbh guramukh paaeaa |
For if you depart with virtue, then pain shall never afflict you. ||5||
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਚੁਲੰਭੁ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
man tan hoe chulanbh je satigur bhaaeaa |1|
The mind and body are dyed in the deep red color of devotional love, if it pleases the True Guru. ||1||
ਚਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਵਖਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਲੈ ॥
chalai janam savaar vakhar sach lai |
He departs with his life embellished and successful, taking the merchandise of the True Name.
ਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pat paae darabaar satigur sabad bhai |1| rahaau |
He is honored in the Darbaar, the Royal Court, of the Lord, through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, and the Fear of God. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
man tan sach salaeh saache man bhaaeaa |
One who praises the True Lord with his mind and body, pleases the Mind of the True Lord.
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
laal rataa man maaniaa gur pooraa paaeaa |2|
Attuned to the Beloved Lord, the mind is appeased, and finds the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂ ਵਸੈ ॥
hau jeevaa gun saar antar too vasai |
I live, by cherishing Your Glorious Virtues; You dwell deep within me.
ਤੂੰ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਸਿ ਰਸੈ ॥੩॥
toon vaseh man maeh sahaje ras rasai |3|
You dwell within my mind, and so it naturally celebrates in joyful delight. ||3||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਇ ਆਖਉ ਕੇਤੜਾ ॥
moorakh man samajhaae aakhau ketarraa |
O my foolish mind, how can I teach and instruct you?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗੇਤੜਾ ॥੪॥
guramukh har gun gaae rang rangetarraa |4|
As Gurmukh, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and so become attuned to His Love. ||4||
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਆਪਣਾ ॥
nit nit ridai samaal preetam aapanaa |
Continually, continuously, remember and cherish your Beloved Lord in your heart.
ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਲਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪਣਾ ॥੫॥
je chaleh gun naal naahee dukh santaapanaa |5|
For if you depart with virtue, then pain shall never afflict you. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ॥
manamukh bharam bhulaanaa naa tis rang hai |
The self-willed manmukh wanders around, deluded by doubt; he does not enshrine love for the Lord.
ਮਰਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
marasee hoe viddaanaa man tan bhang hai |6|
He dies as a stranger to his own self, and his mind and body are spoiled. ||6||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਲਾਹਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥
gur kee kaar kamaae laahaa ghar aaniaa |
Performing service to the Guru, you shall go home with the profit.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gurabaanee nirabaan sabad pachhaaniaa |7|
Through the Word of the Guru's Bani, and the Shabad, the Word of God, the state of Nirvaanaa is attained. ||7||
ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥
eik naanak kee aradaas je tudh bhaavasee |
Nanak makes this one prayer: if it pleases Your Will,
ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਸੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥
mai deejai naam nivaas har gun gaavasee |8|1|3|
bless me with a home in Your Name, Lord, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises. ||8||1||3||
