ਤਿਲੰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥

Tilang, Fifth Mehl, Third House:

ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥

miharavaan saahib miharavaan | saahib meraa miharavaan |

Merciful, the Lord Master is Merciful. My Lord Master is Merciful.

ਜੀਅ ਸਗਲ ਕਉ ਦੇਇ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jeea sagal kau dee daan | rahaau |

He gives His gifts to all beings. ||Pause||

ਤੂ ਕਾਹੇ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਰਾਖੈਗਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

too kaahe ddoleh praaneea tudh raakhaigaa sirajanahaar |

Why do you waver, O mortal being? The Creator Lord Himself shall protect you.

ਜਿਨਿ ਪੈਦਾਇਸਿ ਤੂ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਦੇਇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

jin paidaaeis too keea soee dee aadhaar |1|

He who created you, will also give you nourishment. ||1||

ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਸਾਰ ॥

jin upaaee medanee soee karadaa saar |

The One who created the world, takes care of it.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਾਲਕੁ ਦਿਲਾ ਕਾ ਸਚਾ ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

ghatt ghatt maalak dilaa kaa sachaa paravadagaar |2|

In each and every heart and mind, the Lord is the True Cherisher. ||2||

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਵਡਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥

kudarat keem na jaaneeai vaddaa veparavaahu |

His creative potency and His value cannot be known; He is the Great and carefree Lord.

ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੂ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਹੁ ॥੩॥

kar bande too bandagee jichar ghatt meh saahu |3|

O human being, meditate on the Lord, as long as there is breath in your body. ||3||

ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਅਕਥੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

too samarath akath agochar jeeo pindd teree raas |

O God, You are all-powerful, inexpressible and imperceptible; my soul and body are Your capital.

ਰਹਮ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩॥

reham teree sukh paaeaa sadaa naanak kee aradaas |4|3|

By Your Mercy, may I find peace; this is Nanak's lasting prayer. ||4||3||

ਕਰਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਮੁਸਤਾਕੁ ॥

karate kudaratee musataak |

O Creator, through Your creative potency, I am in love with You.

ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਏਕ ਤੂਹੀ ਸਭ ਖਲਕ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਕੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

deen duneea ek toohee sabh khalak hee te paak | rahaau |

You alone are my spiritual and temporal Lord; and yet, You are detached from all Your creation. ||Pause||

ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਦਾ ਆਚਰਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੂਪ ॥

khin maeh thaap uthaapadaa aacharaj tere roop |

In an instant, You establish and disestablish. Wondrous is Your form!

ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਚਲਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪ ॥੧॥

kaun jaanai chalat tere andhiaare meh deep |1|

Who can know Your play? You are the Light in the darkness. ||1||

ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮ ਖਲਕ ਜਹਾਨ ਅਲਹ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥

khud khasam khalak jahaan alah miharavaan khudaae |

You are the Master of Your creation, the Lord of all the world, O Merciful Lord God.

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਦੋਜਕਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

dinas rain ji tudh araadhe so kiau dojak jaae |2|

One who worships You day and night - why should he have to go to hell? ||2||

ਅਜਰਾਈਲੁ ਯਾਰੁ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥

ajaraaeel yaar bande jis teraa aadhaar |

Azraa-eel, the Messenger of Death, is the friend of the human being who has Your support, Lord.

ਗੁਨਹ ਉਸ ਕੇ ਸਗਲ ਆਫੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਦੀਦਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

gunah us ke sagal aafoo tere jan dekheh deedaar |3|

His sins are all forgiven; Your humble servant gazes upon Your Vision. ||3||

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਚੀਜ ਫਿਲਹਾਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

duneea cheej filahaal sagale sach sukh teraa naau |

All worldly considerations are for the present only. True peace comes only from Your Name.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਏਕਸੁ ਗਾਉ ॥੪॥੪॥

gur mil naanak boojhiaa sadaa ekas gaau |4|4|

Meeting the Guru, Nanak understands; He sings only Your Praises forever, O Lord. ||4||4||

Tilang, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੀਰਾਂ ਦਾਨਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਸੋਚ ॥

meeraan daanaan dil soch |

Think of the Lord in your mind, O wise one.

ਮੁਹਬਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹ ਬੰਦੀ ਮੋਚ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

muhabate man tan basai sach saah bandee moch |1| rahaau |

Enshrine love for the True Lord in your mind and body; He is the Liberator from bondage. ||1||Pause||

ਦੀਦਨੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਮੋਲੁ ॥

deedane deedaar saahib kachh nahee is kaa mol |

The value of seeing the Vision of the Lord Master cannot be estimated.

ਪਾਕ ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ ਤੂ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥੧॥

paak paravadagaar too khud khasam vaddaa atol |1|

You are the Pure Cherisher; You Yourself are the great and immeasurable Lord and Master. ||1||

ਦਸ੍ਤਗੀਰੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਿਲਾਵਰ ਤੂਹੀ ਤੂਹੀ ਏਕ ॥

dastageeree dehi dilaavar toohee toohee ek |

Give me Your help, O brave and generous Lord; You are the One, You are the Only Lord.

ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਣ ਖਾਲਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਟੇਕ ॥੨॥੫॥

karataar kudarat karan khaalak naanak teree ttek |2|5|

O Creator Lord, by Your creative potency, You created the world; Nanak holds tight to Your support. ||2||5||

Tilang, First Mehl, Second House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

jin keea tin dekhiaa kiaa kaheeai re bhaaee |

The One who created the world watches over it; what more can we say, O Siblings of Destiny?

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਾੜੀ ਹੈ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥

aape jaanai kare aap jin vaarree hai laaee |1|

He Himself knows, and He Himself acts; He laid out the garden of the world. ||1||

ਰਾਇਸਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਾ ਰਾਇਸਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

raaeisaa piaare kaa raaeisaa jit sadaa sukh hoee | rahaau |

Savor the story, the story of the Beloved Lord, which brings a lasting peace. ||Pause||

ਜਿਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸਾ ਪਛੋ ਰੇ ਤਾਣੀ ॥

jin rang kant na raaviaa saa pachho re taanee |

She who does not enjoy the Love of her Husband Lord, shall come to regret and repent in the end.

ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਧੁਣੈ ਜਬ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੨॥

haath pachhorrai sir dhunai jab rain vihaanee |2|

She wrings her hands, and bangs her head, when the night of her life has passed away. ||2||

ਪਛੋਤਾਵਾ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਬ ਚੂਕੈਗੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥

pachhotaavaa naa milai jab chookaigee saaree |

Nothing comes from repentance, when the game is already finished.

ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਵੀਐ ਜਬ ਆਵੈਗੀ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

taa fir piaaraa raaveeai jab aavaigee vaaree |3|

She shall have the opportunity to enjoy her Beloved, only when her turn comes again. ||3||

ਕੰਤੁ ਲੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੈ ਤੇ ਵਧਵੀ ਏਹ ॥

kant leea sohaaganee mai te vadhavee eh |

The happy soul-bride attains her Husband Lord - she is so much better than I am.

ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੁਝੈ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਕੈ ਜੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇਹ ॥੪॥

se gun mujhai na aavanee kai jee dos dhareh |4|

I have none of her merits or virtues; whom should I blame? ||4||

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੂਛਉਗੀ ਜਾਏ ॥

jinee sakhee sahu raaviaa tin poochhaugee jaae |

I shall go and ask those sisters who have enjoyed their Husband Lord.

ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਉ ਲੇਉਗੀ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਏ ॥੫॥

paae lgau benatee krau leaugee panth bataae |5|

I touch their feet, and ask them to show me the Path. ||5||

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭਉ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

hukam pachhaanai naanakaa bhau chandan laavai |

She who understands the Hukam of His Command, O Nanak, applies the Fear of God as her sandalwood oil;

ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਰੈ ਤਉ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੬॥

gun kaaman kaaman karai tau piaare kau paavai |6|

she charms her Beloved with her virtue, and so obtains Him. ||6||

ਜੋ ਦਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਰੇ ਸੋਈ ॥

jo dil miliaa su mil rahiaa miliaa kaheeai re soee |

She who meets her Beloved in her heart, remains united with Him; this is truly called union.

ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਬਾਤੀ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥

je bahuteraa locheeai baatee mel na hoee |7|

As much as she may long for Him, she shall not meet Him through mere words. ||7||

ਧਾਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਕਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਿਵੈ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ॥

dhaat milai fun dhaat kau liv livai kau dhaavai |

As metal melts into metal again, so does love melt into love.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਤਉ ਅਨਭਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੮॥

gur parasaadee jaaneeai tau anbhau paavai |8|

By Guru's Grace, this understanding is obtained, and then, one obtains the Fearless Lord. ||8||

ਪਾਨਾ ਵਾੜੀ ਹੋਇ ਘਰਿ ਖਰੁ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

paanaa vaarree hoe ghar khar saar na jaanai |

There may be an orchard of betel nut trees in the garden, but the donkey does not appreciate its value.

ਰਸੀਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਸਕ ਕਾ ਤਬ ਫੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੯॥

raseea hovai musak kaa tab fool pachhaanai |9|

If someone savors a fragrance, then he can truly appreciate its flower. ||9||

ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਵੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

apiau peevai jo naanakaa bhram bhram samaavai |

One who drinks in the ambrosia, O Nanak, abandons his doubts and wanderings.

ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੦॥੧॥

sahaje sahaje mil rahai amaraa pad paavai |10|1|

Easily and intuitively, he remains blended with the Lord, and obtains the immortal status. ||10||1||
