ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਾਮ ॥
maagau daan tthaakur naam |
I beg for the Gift of Your Name, O my Lord and Master.
ਅਵਰੁ ਕਛੂ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
avar kachhoo merai sang na chaalai milai kripaa gun gaam |1| rahaau |
Nothing else shall go along with me in the end; by Your Grace, please allow me to sing Your Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਭੋਗ ਰਸ ਸਗਲ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਮ ॥
raaj maal anek bhog ras sagal taravar kee chhaam |
Power, wealth, various pleasures and enjoyments, all are just like the shadow of a tree.
ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਰਾਰਥ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥
dhaae dhaae bahu bidh kau dhaavai sagal niraarath kaam |1|
He runs, runs, runs around in many directions, but all of his pursuits are useless. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਵਰੁ ਜੇ ਚਾਹਉ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਗਲ ਬਾਤ ਹੈ ਖਾਮ ॥
bin govind avar je chaahau deesai sagal baat hai khaam |
Except for the Lord of the Universe, everything he desires appears transitory.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨ ਮਾਗਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥੧॥੬॥
kahu naanak sant ren maagau mero man paavai bisraam |2|1|6|
Says Nanak, I beg for the dust of the feet of the Saints, so that my mind may find peace and tranquility. ||2||1||6||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਾਧਾਰੈ ॥
prabh jee ko naam maneh saadhaarai |
The Naam, the Name of the Dear Lord, is the Support of my mind.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੂਖ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਬਰਤਨਿ ਏਹ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeea praan sookh is man kau baratan eeh hamaarai |1| rahaau |
It is my life, my breath of life, my peace of mind; for me, it is an article of daily use. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ॥
naam jaat naam meree pat hai naam merai paravaarai |
The Naam is my social status, the Naam is my honor; the Naam is my family.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
naam sakhaaee sadaa merai sang har naam mo kau nisataarai |1|
The Naam is my companion; it is always with me. The Lord's Name is my emancipation. ||1||
ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਚਲਤ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਸੰਗਾਰੈ ॥
bikhai bilaas kaheeat bahutere chalat na kachhoo sangaarai |
Sensual pleasures are talked about a lot, but none of them goes along with anyone in the end.
ਇਸਟੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ॥੨॥੨॥੭॥
eisatt meet naam naanak ko har naam merai bhanddaarai |2|2|7|
The Naam is Nanak's dearest friend; the Lord's Name is my treasure. ||2||2||7||

ਨੀਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ਮਿਟਹੀ ਰੋਗ ॥
neeke gun gaau mittahee rog |
Sing the sublime Praises of the Lord, and your disease shall be eradicated.
ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਰਹੈ ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mukh aoojal man niramal hoee hai tero rahai eehaa aoohaa log |1| rahaau |
Your face shall become radiant and bright, and your mind shall be immaculately pure. You shall be saved here and hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਚਰਾਵਉ ਭੋਗ ॥
charan pakhaar krau gur sevaa maneh charaavau bhog |
I wash the Guru's feet and serve Him; I dedicate my mind as an offering to Him.
ਛੋਡਿ ਆਪਤੁ ਬਾਦੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਜੋ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੧॥
chhodd aapat baad ahankaaraa maan soee jo hog |1|
Renounce self-conceit, negativity and egotism, and accept what comes to pass. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖੋਗੁ ॥
sant ttehal soee hai laagaa jis masatak likhiaa likhog |
He alone commits himself to the service of the Saints, upon whose forehead such destiny is inscribed.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥੩॥੮॥
kahu naanak ek bin doojaa avar na karanai jog |2|3|8|
Says Nanak, other than the One Lord, there is not any other able to act. ||2||3||8||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ॥
satigur aaeo saran tuhaaree |
O True Guru, I have come to Your Sanctuary.
ਮਿਲੈ ਸੂਖੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਲਾਹਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
milai sookh naam har sobhaa chintaa laeh hamaaree |1| rahaau |
Grant me the peace and glory of the Lord's Name, and remove my anxiety. ||1||Pause||
ਅਵਰ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਦੂਜੀ ਠਾਹਰ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤਉ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥
avar na soojhai doojee tthaahar haar pario tau duaaree |
I cannot see any other place of shelter; I have grown weary, and collapsed at Your door.
ਲੇਖਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਲੇਖੈ ਛੂਟਹ ਹਮ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
lekhaa chhodd alekhai chhoottah ham niragun lehu ubaaree |1|
Please ignore my account; only then may I be saved. I am worthless - please, save me! ||1||
ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥
sad bakhasind sadaa miharavaanaa sabhanaa dee adhaaree |
You are always forgiving, and always merciful; You give support to all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰਿਓ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਇਹ ਬਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੪॥੯॥
naanak daas sant paachhai pario raakh lehu ih baaree |2|4|9|
Slave Nanak follows the Path of the Saints; save him, O Lord, this time. ||2||4||9||

ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਣ ॥
rasanaa gun gopaal nidh gaaein |
My tongue sings the Praises of the Lord of the world, the ocean of virtue.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਰਹਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saant sehaj rehas man upajio sagale dookh palaaein |1| rahaau |
Peace, tranquility, poise and delight well up in my mind, and all sorrows run away. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੇਵਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਰਸਾਇਣ ॥
jo maageh soee soee paaveh sev har ke charan rasaaein |
Whatever I ask for, I receive; I serve at the Lord's feet, the source of nectar.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਹਹੂ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥
janam maran duhahoo te chhootteh bhavajal jagat taraaein |1|
I am released from the bondage of birth and death, and so I cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਦਾਸ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਪਰਾਇਣ ॥
khojat khojat tat beechaario daas govind paraaein |
Searching and seeking, I have come to understand the essence of reality; the slave of the Lord of the Universe is dedicated to Him.
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਖੇਮ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੦॥
abinaasee khem chaaheh je naanak sadaa simar naaraaein |2|5|10|
If you desire eternal bliss, O Nanak, ever remember the Lord in meditation. ||2||5||10||
