ਧੁਣੰ ਢੋਲ ਬੱਜੇ ॥

dhunan dtol baje |

ਮਹਾਂ ਸੂਰ ਗੱਜੇ ॥

mahaan soor gaje |

Listening to the resounding voice of the drums, the warriors thunder.

ਕਰੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਘਾਵੰ ॥

kare sasatr ghaavan |

ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਚਾਵੰ ॥੬॥

charrhe chit chaavan |6|

They inflict wounds with weapons, their minds filled with great zest.6.

ਨ੍ਰਿਭੈ ਬਾਜ ਡਾਰੈ ॥

nribhai baaj ddaarai |

ਪਰੱਘੈ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੈ ॥

paraghai prahaarai |

Fearlessly, they cause their horses to run and strike the blows of axes.

ਕਰੇ ਤੇਗ ਘਾਯੰ ॥

kare teg ghaayan |

ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਚਾਯੰ ॥੭॥

Many inflict wounds with their swords and the minds of all are very enthusiastic.7.

ਬਕੈ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰੰ ॥

bakai maar maaran |

ਨ ਸੰਕਾ ਬਿਚਾਰੰ ॥

n sankaa bichaaran |

From their mouths, they shout “kill, kill”, without any doubts.

ਰੁਲੈ ਤੱਛ ਮੁੱਛੰ ॥

rulai tachh muchhan |

ਕਰੈ ਸੁਰਗ ਇੱਛੰ ॥੮॥

karai surag ichhan |8|

The chopped warriors are rolling in dust and wish to go to heaven.8.

ਨੈਕ ਨ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਰਿ ਚਲੈਂ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਡਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਘਾਇ ॥

naik na ran te mur chalain karai niddar hvai ghaae |

They do not retrace their steps from the battlefield and inflict wounds fearlessly.

ਗਿਰ ਗਿਰ ਪਰੈ ਪਵੰਗ ਤੇ ਬਰੇਂ ਬਰੰਗਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੯॥

gir gir parai pavang te baren barangan jaae |9|

Those who fall from their horses, the heavenly damsels go to wed them.9.

ਜੂਝੇ ਚੰਦ ਨਰਾਇਨ ਨਾਮਾ ॥

joojhe chand naraaein naamaa |

In this way, the battle continued on both sides (with great vigour). Chandan Rai was killed.

ਤਬ ਜੁਝਾਰ ਏਕਲ ਹੀ ਧਯੋ ॥

tab jujhaar ekal hee dhayo |

ਬੀਰਨ ਘੇਰ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਲਯੋ ॥੧੦॥

beeran gher daso dis layo |10|

Then Jajhar Singh continued the fight quite alone. He was surrounded from all the sides.10.

ਧਸਿਯੋ ਕਟਕ ਮੈ ਝਟਕ ਦੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥

dhasiyo kattak mai jhattak dai kachhoo na sank bichaar |

He rushed into the army of the enemy without any hesitation.

ਗਾਹਤ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਭਟਨ ਬਡੇ ਬਾਹਿਤ ਭਯੋ ਹਥਿਆਰ ॥੧੧॥

gaahat bhayo subhattan badde baahit bhayo hathiaar |11|

And killed many soldiers, wielding his weapons very skillfully.11.

ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਥੀਯਾਰਾ ॥

bhaant bhaant ke kar hatheeyaaraa |

In this way, he destroyed many homes, using various kinds of weapons.

ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਬੀਰ ਪਖਰੀਆ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

chun chun beer pakhareea maare |

ਅੰਤਿ ਦੇਵ ਪੁਰ ਆਪ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੨॥

ant dev pur aap padhaare |12|

He aimed and killed the brave horsemen, but at last he left for the heavenly abode himself.12.

The arrival of Shahzada (the prince) in Madra Desha (Punjab):

In this way, when Jujhar Singh was killed, the soldiers returned their homes.

ਤਬ ਅਉਰੰਗ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਿਸਾਵਾ ॥

tab aaurang man maeh risaavaa |

ਮੱਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਕੋ ਪੂਤ ਪਠਾਵਾ ॥੧॥

Then Aurangzeb became very angry and sent his son to Madr Desha (Punjab).1.

ਤਿੱਹ ਆਵਤ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਡਰਾਨੇ ॥

tieh aavat sabh lok ddaraane |

ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਗਿਰ ਹੇਰ ਲੁਕਾਨੇ ॥

badde badde gir her lukaane |

On his arrival, all were frightened and hid themselves in big hills.

ਹਮਹੂੰ ਲੋਗਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਾਯੋ ॥

hamahoon logan adhik ddaraayo |

ਕਾਲ ਕਰਮ ਕੋ ਮਰਮ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੨॥

kaal karam ko maram na paayo |2|

The people tried to frighten me also, because they did not understand the ways of Almighty.2.

ਕਿਤਕ ਲੋਕ ਤਜਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥

kitak lok taj sang sidhaare |

ਜਾਇ ਬਸੇ ਗਿਰਵਰ ਜਹਿ ਭਾਰੇ ॥

jaae base giravar jeh bhaare |

Some people left us and took refuge in the big hills.

ਚਿਤ ਮੂਜੀਯਨ ਕੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਾਨਾ ॥

chit moojeeyan ko adhik ddaraanaa |

ਤਿਨੈ ਉਬਾਰ ਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

tinai ubaar na apanaa jaanaa |3|

The cowards were so much frightened that they did not consider their safety with me.3.

ਤਬ ਅਉਰੰਗ ਜੀਅ ਮਾਂਝ ਰਿਸਾਏ ॥

tab aaurang jeea maanjh risaae |

ਏਕ ਅਹਦੀਆ ਈਹਾਂ ਪਠਾਏ ॥

ek ahadeea eehaan patthaae |

The son of Aurangzeb grew very angry and sent a subordinate in this direction.

ਹਮ ਤੇ ਭਾਜਿ ਬਿਮੁਖ ਜੇ ਗਏ ॥

ham te bhaaj bimukh je ge |

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਗਿਰਾਵਤ ਭਏ ॥੪॥

tin ke dhaam giraavat bhe |4|

Those who had left me in distrust, their homes were demolished by him.4.

ਜੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹੈਂ ॥

je apane gur te mukh firahain |

ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾਂ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਗਿਰਿਹੈਂ ॥

eehaan aoohaan tin ke grih girihain |

Those who turn away their faces from the Guru, their houses are demolished in this and the next world.

ਇਹਾਂ ਉਪਹਾਸ ਨ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਾ ॥

eihaan upahaas na sur pur baasaa |

ਸਭ ਬਾਤਨ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੫॥

sabh baatan te rahai niraasaa |5|

They are ridiculed here and also do not get and abode in heaven. They also remain disappointed in all things.5.

ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

dookh bhookh tin ko rahai laagee |

ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਹੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥

sant sev te jo hai tiaagee |

They are always inflicted by hunger and sorrow, those, who have forsaken the service of the saints.

ਜਗਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਮ ਨ ਸਰਹੀਂ ॥

jagat bikhai koee kaam na saraheen |

ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੁੰਡ ਨਰਕ ਕੀ ਪਰਹੀਂ ॥੬॥

anteh kundd narak kee paraheen |6|

None of their wish is fulfilled in the world and in the end, they abide in the fire of the abyss of hell.6.

ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਪਹਾਸਾ ॥

tin ko sadaa jagat upahaasaa |

ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੁੰਡ ਨਰਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਾ ॥

anteh kundd narak kee baasaa |

They are always ridiculed in the world and in the end, they abide in the fire of the abyss of hell.

ਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥

gur pag te je bemukh sidhaare |

ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਕਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

eehaan aoohaa tin ke mukh kaare |7|

Those, who turn away their face from the feet of the Guru, their faces are blackened in this and the next world.7.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪਉਤ੍ਰ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਰੈਂ ॥

putr pautr tin ke naheen farain |

ਦੁਖ ਦੈ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋ ਮਰੈਂ ॥

dukh dai maat pitaa ko marain |

Their sons and grandsons do not prosper and they die, creating great agony for their parents.

ਗੁਰ ਦੋਖੀ ਸਗ ਕੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

gur dokhee sag kee mrit paavai |

ਨਰਕ ਕੁੰਡ ਡਾਰੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥੮॥

narak kundd ddaare pachhutaavai |8|

The one, who hath malice of the Guru in his heart, dies the death of ad dog. He repents, when he is thrown in the abyss of hell.8.

ਬਾਬੇ ਕੇ ਬਾਬਰ ਕੇ ਦੋਊ ॥

baabe ke baabar ke doaoo |

ਆਪ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਸੋਊ ॥

aap kare paramesar soaoo |

The successors of both, Baba (Nanak) and Badur were created by God Himself.

ਦੀਨ ਸਾਹ ਇਨ ਕੋ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੋ ॥

deen saah in ko pahichaano |

ਦੁਨੀ ਪੱਤਿ ਉਨ ਕੌ ਅਨੁਮਾਨੋ ॥੯॥

dunee pat un kau anumaano |9|

Recognise the former as the spiritual king and the later as temporal king.9.

ਜੋ ਬਾਬੇ ਕੇ ਦਾਮ ਨ ਦੈਹੈਂ ॥

jo baabe ke daam na daihain |

ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਬਾਬਰ ਕੇ ਲੈਹੈਂ ॥

tin te geh baabar ke laihain |

Those who do not deliver the Guru’s money, the successors of Babur shall seize and take away forcibly from them.

ਦੈ ਦੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਬਡੀ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

dai dai tin kau baddee sajaae |

ਪੁਨਿ ਲੈਹੈਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲੂਟ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੧੦॥

pun laihain grih loott banaae |10|

They will be greatly punished (and their houses will he plundered.10.

ਜਬ ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਬਿਨਾ ਧਨ ॥

jab hvaihain bemukh binaa dhan |

ਤਬ ਚੜਿਹੈਂ ਸਿਖਨ ਕਹ ਮਾਂਗਨ ॥

tab charrihain sikhan keh maangan |

Those impertinent persons will he without money, they will beg for it form the Sikhs.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਸਿਖ ਤਿਨੈ ਧਨ ਦੈਹੈਂ ॥

je je sikh tinai dhan daihain |

ਲੂਟ ਮਲੇਛ ਤਿਨੂ ਕੌ ਲੈਹੈਂ ॥੧੧॥

loott malechh tinoo kau laihain |11|

And those Sikhs, who will give them money, their houses will be plundered by the Malechhas (barbarians).11.

ਜਬ ਹੁਇ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਦਰਬ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥

jab hue hai tin darab binaasaa |

ਤਬ ਧਰਿਹੈ ਨਿਜ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ॥

tab dharihai nij gur kee aasaa |

When their wealth will be destroyed, then they will keep hopes on their Guru.

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੌ ਐਹੈਂ ॥

jab te gur darasan kau aihain |

ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਖ ਨ ਲਗੈਹੈਂ ॥੧੨॥

tab tin ko gur mukh na lagaihain |12|

They will all come then to have a sight of the Guru, but the Guru will not receive them.12.

ਬਿਦਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੈਹੈਂ ਤਬ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

bidaa binaa jaihain tab dhaaman |

ਸਰਿਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਾਮੰ ॥

sarihai koee na tin ko kaaman |

Then without seeking the permission of the Guru, they will return to their homes, therefore none of their work will be fruitful.

ਗੁਰ ਦਰ ਢੋਈ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

gur dar dtoee na prabh pur vaasaa |

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਠਉਰ ਤੇ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧੩॥

duhoon tthaur te rahe niraasaa |13|

He, who doth not get the refuge at the house of the Guru, he doth not get an abode in the Court of the Lord. He remains disappointed at both the places, in this world as well as the next world.13.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਨ ਰਤ ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈਂ ॥

je je gur charanan rat hvaihain |

ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਸਟ ਨ ਦੇਖਨ ਪੈਹੈਂ ॥

tin ko kasatt na dekhan paihain |

Those, who are the devotees of Guru’s feet, the sufferings cannot touch them.

ਰਿਧ ਸਿਧ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਾਹੀਂ ॥

ridh sidh tin ke grih maaheen |

ਪਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਛ੍ਵੈ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਛਾਹੀਂ ॥੧੪॥

paap taap chhvai sakai na chhaaheen |14|

The wealth and prosperity always abide in their house and the sins and ailments cannot even come near their shadow.14.

ਤਿਹ ਮਲੇਛ ਛ੍ਵੈਹੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਾਹਾਂ ॥

tih malechh chhvaihai naheen chhaahaan |

ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਘਰਿ ਮਾਹਾਂ ॥

asatt sidh hvai hai ghar maahaan |

The malechha (barbarian) cannot touch their shadwow, the eight miraculous powers in their house.

ਹਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਜੋ ਉਦਮ ਉਠੈਹੈਂ ॥

haas karat jo udam utthaihain |

ਨਵੋ ਨਿਧਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ਐਹੈਂ ॥੧੫॥

navo nidh tin ke ghar aihain |15|

Even if they endeavour to reap gain by way of fun, the nine treasures come to their abode by themselves.15.

ਮਿਰਜਾ ਬੇਗ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮੰ ॥

mirajaa beg huto tih naaman |

ਜਿਨ ਢਾਹੇ ਬੇਮੁਖਨ ਕੇ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

jin dtaahe bemukhan ke dhaaman |

Mirza Beg was the name of the officer, who demolished the houses of the apostates.

ਸਬ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਗੁਰ ਆਪ ਬਚਾਏ ॥

sab sanamukh gur aap bachaae |

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਬਾਂਕਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੧੬॥

tin ke baar na baankan paae |16|

Those who remained faithful, were protected by the Guru, not even a little harm was done to them.16.

ਉਤ ਅਉਰੰਗ ਜੀਅ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਯੋ ॥

aut aaurang jeea adhik risaayo |

ਚਾਰ ਅਹਦੀਯਨ ਅਉਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥

chaar ahadeeyan aaur patthaayo |

There the son of Aurangzeb grew most angry, he sent four other officers.

ਜੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਚਿ ਆਏ ॥

je bemukh taan te bach aae |

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪੁਨਿ ਇਨੈ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥੧੭॥

tin ke grih pun inai giraae |17|

Those apostates who had escaped (the punishment) earlier, there hoses were demolished by the officers. 17.

ਜੇ ਤਜਿ ਭਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਆਨਾ ॥

je taj bhaje hute gur aanaa |

ਤਿਨ ਪੁਨਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਹਦੀਅਹਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

tin pun guroo ahadeeeh jaanaa |

Those who had fled form Anandpur forsaking the refuge of the Guru and considered are officers as their Guru.

ਮੂਤ੍ਰ ਡਾਰ ਤਿਨ ਸੀਸ ਮੁੰਡਾਏ ॥

mootr ddaar tin sees munddaae |

ਪਾਹੁਰਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਹਿ ਲੈ ਆਏ ॥੧੮॥

paahur jaan griheh lai aae |18|

Who have put the urine on their heads and shaved them, it appears that they Guru, these officers enquired about their address from others.18.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਭਾਜ ਹੁਤੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਇਸੁ ॥

je je bhaaj hute bin aaeis |

ਕਹੋ ਅਹਦੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਬਤਾਇਸੁ ॥

kaho ahadeeeh kinai bataaeis |

Those who had fled from Anandpur without the permission of their Guru, these officers enquired about their address from others.

ਮੂੰਡ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਹਿਰ ਫਿਰਾਏ ॥

moondd moondd kar sahir firaae |

ਕਾਰ ਭੇਟ ਜਨੁ ਲੈਨ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥੧੯॥

kaar bhett jan lain sidhaae |19|

They have got their heads shaved and caused them to move throughout the city. It appears that they have been sent to collect the offerings by the officers.19.

ਪਾਛੇ ਲਾਗਿ ਲਰਿਕਵਾ ਚਲੇ ॥

paachhe laag larikavaa chale |

ਜਾਨੁਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਖਾ ਹੈਂ ਭਲੇ ॥

jaanuk sikh sakhaa hain bhale |

The boys who are following them and jeering them, appear like their disciples and servants.

ਛਿੱਕੇ ਤੋਬਰਾ ਬਦਨ ਚੜਾਏ ॥

chhike tobaraa badan charraae |

ਜਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਖਾਨ ਮਲੀਦਾ ਆਏ ॥੨੦॥

jan grih khaan maleedaa aae |20|

The nose-bags containing turd of the horses, tied on their faces make them appear to have received for eating the sweetmeat from their homes.20.

ਮਸਤਕ ਸੁਭੇ ਪਨਹੀਯਨ ਘਾਇ ॥

masatak subhe panaheeyan ghaae |

ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਟੀਕਾ ਦਏ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

jan kar tteekaa de banaae |

The marks of the wounds on their foreheads, cussed by the beating with shoes, look like the frontal marks put by the officers (as Guru).

ਸੀਸ ਈਟ ਕੇ ਘਾਇ ਕਰੇਹੀ ॥

sees eett ke ghaae karehee |

ਜਨੁ ਤਿਨੁ ਭੇਟ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥੨੧॥

jan tin bhett puraatan dehee |21|

The wounds on heads caused by the brick-hittings, appear like the previous offering given to them.21.

jaanau nahee bhaavai kavan baataa |

I do not know what pleases my Lord.

ਮਨ ਖੋਜਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

man khoj maarag |1| rahaau |

O mind, seek out the way! ||1||Pause||

ਧਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ॥

dhiaanee dhiaan laaveh |

The meditatives practice meditation,

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥

giaanee giaan kamaaveh |

and the wise practice spiritual wisdom,

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੧॥

prabh kin hee jaataa |1|

but how rare are those who know God! ||1||

ਭਗਉਤੀ ਰਹਤ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥

bhgautee rehat jugataa |

The worshipper of Bhagaauti practices self-discipline,

ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

jogee kehat mukataa |

the Yogi speaks of liberation,

ਤਪਸੀ ਤਪਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੨॥

tapasee tapeh raataa |2|

and the ascetic is absorbed in asceticism. ||2||

ਮੋਨੀ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ॥

monee monidhaaree |

The men of silence observe silence,

ਸਨਿਆਸੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥

saniaasee brahamachaaree |

the Sanyaasees observe celibacy,

ਉਦਾਸੀ ਉਦਾਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੩॥

audaasee udaas raataa |3|

and the Udaasees abide in detachment. ||3||

ਭਗਤਿ ਨਵੈ ਪਰਕਾਰਾ ॥

bhagat navai parakaaraa |

There are nine forms of devotional worship.

ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਵੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥

panddit ved pukaaraa |

The Pandits recite the Vedas.

ਗਿਰਸਤੀ ਗਿਰਸਤਿ ਧਰਮਾਤਾ ॥੪॥

girasatee girasat dharamaataa |4|

The householders assert their faith in family life. ||4||

ਇਕ ਸਬਦੀ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥

eik sabadee bahu roop avadhootaa |

Those who utter only One Word, those who take many forms, the naked renunciates,

ਕਾਪੜੀ ਕਉਤੇ ਜਾਗੂਤਾ ॥

kaaparree kaute jaagootaa |

the wearers of patched coats, the magicians, those who remain always awake,

ਇਕਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਤਾ ॥੫॥

eik teerath naataa |5|

and those who bathe at holy places of pilgrimage-||5||

ਨਿਰਹਾਰ ਵਰਤੀ ਆਪਰਸਾ ॥

nirahaar varatee aaparasaa |

Those who go without food, those who never touch others,

ਇਕਿ ਲੂਕਿ ਨ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਸਾ ॥

eik look na deveh darasaa |

the hermits who never show themselves,

ਇਕਿ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੬॥

eik man hee giaataa |6|

and those who are wise in their own minds-||6||

ਘਾਟਿ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥

ghaatt na kin hee kahaaeaa |

Of these, no one admits to any deficiency;

ਸਭ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

sabh kahate hai paaeaa |

all say that they have found the Lord.

ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਭਗਤਾ ॥੭॥

jis mele so bhagataa |7|

But he alone is a devotee, whom the Lord has united with Himself. ||7||

ਸਗਲ ਉਕਤਿ ਉਪਾਵਾ ॥

sagal ukat upaavaa |

Abandoning all devices and contrivances,

ਤਿਆਗੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

tiaagee saran paavaa |

I have sought His Sanctuary.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਿ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੭॥

Nanak has fallen at the Feet of the Guru. ||8||2||27||

Among Yogis, You are the Yogi;

toon bhogee andar bhogeea |

among pleasure seekers, You are the Pleasure Seeker.

ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਮਛਿ ਪਇਆਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

teraa ant na paaeaa surag machh peaal jeeo |1|

Your limits are not known to any of the beings in the heavens, in this world, or in the nether regions of the underworld. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਵ ਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hau vaaree hau vaaranai kurabaan tere naav no |1| rahaau |

I am devoted, dedicated, a sacrifice to Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਤੁਧੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

tudh sansaar upaaeaa |

You created the world,

ਸਿਰੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

sire sir dhandhe laaeaa |

and assigned tasks to one and all.

ਵੇਖਹਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

vekheh keetaa aapanaa kar kudarat paasaa dtaal jeeo |2|

You watch over Your Creation, and through Your All-powerful Creative Potency, You cast the dice. ||2||

ਪਰਗਟਿ ਪਾਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਪਦਾ ॥

paragatt paahaarai jaapadaa |

You are manifest in the Expanse of Your Workshop.

ਸਭੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਪਰਤਾਪਦਾ ॥

sabh naavai no parataapadaa |

Everyone longs for Your Name,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

satigur baajh na paaeo sabh mohee maaeaa jaal jeeo |3|

but without the Guru, no one finds You. All are enticed and trapped by Maya. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

satigur kau bal jaaeeai |

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru.

ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

jit miliai param gat paaeeai |

Meeting Him, the supreme status is obtained.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥

sur nar mun jan lochade so satigur deea bujhaae jeeo |4|

The angelic beings and the silent sages long for Him; the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||4||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥

satasangat kaisee jaaneeai |

How is the Society of the Saints to be known?

ਜਿਥੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥

jithai eko naam vakhaaneeai |

There, the Name of the One Lord is chanted.

ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥

eko naam hukam hai naanak satigur deea bujhaae jeeo |5|

The One Name is the Lord's Command; O Nanak, the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||5||

ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

eihu jagat bharam bhulaaeaa |

This world has been deluded by doubt.

ਆਪਹੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਖੁਆਇਆ ॥

aapahu tudh khuaaeaa |

You Yourself, Lord, have led it astray.

ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ਲਗਾ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਭਾਗ ਜਿਨਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥

parataap lagaa dohaaganee bhaag jinaa ke naeh jeeo |6|

The discarded soul-brides suffer in terrible agony; they have no luck at all. ||6||

ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਨੀਸਾਣੀਆ ॥

dohaaganee kiaa neesaaneea |

What are the signs of the discarded brides?

ਖਸਮਹੁ ਘੁਥੀਆ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨਿਮਾਣੀਆ ॥

khasamahu ghutheea fireh nimaaneea |

They miss their Husband Lord, and they wander around in dishonor.

ਮੈਲੇ ਵੇਸ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥

maile ves tinaa kaamanee dukhee rain vihaae jeeo |7|

The clothes of those brides are filthy-they pass their life-night in agony. ||7||

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

sohaaganee kiaa karam kamaaeaa |

What actions have the happy soul-brides performed?

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

poorab likhiaa fal paaeaa |

They have obtained the fruit of their pre-ordained destiny.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਕੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥

nadar kare kai aapanee aape le milaae jeeo |8|

Casting His Glance of Grace, the Lord unites them with Himself. ||8||

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਨੋ ਮਨਾਇਆ ॥

hukam jinaa no manaaeaa |

Those, whom God causes to abide by His Will,

ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

tin antar sabad vasaaeaa |

have the Shabad of His Word abiding deep within.

ਸਹੀਆ ਸੇ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੯॥

saheea se sohaaganee jin seh naal piaar jeeo |9|

They are the true soul-brides, who embrace love for their Husband Lord. ||9||

ਜਿਨਾ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

jinaa bhaane kaa ras aaeaa |

Those who take pleasure in God's Will

ਤਿਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

tin vichahu bharam chukaaeaa |

remove doubt from within.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਐਸਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੋ ਸਭਸੈ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੦॥

naanak satigur aisaa jaaneeai jo sabhasai le milaae jeeo |10|

O Nanak, know Him as the True Guru, who unites all with the Lord. ||10||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

satigur miliai fal paaeaa |

Meeting with the True Guru, they receive the fruits of their destiny,

ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਅਹਕਰਣੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

jin vichahu ahakaran chukaaeaa |

and egotism is driven out from within.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਭਾਗੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੧॥

duramat kaa dukh kattiaa bhaag baitthaa masatak aae jeeo |11|

The pain of evil-mindedness is eliminated; good fortune comes and shines radiantly from their foreheads. ||11||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀਆ ॥

amrit teree baaneea |

The Bani of Your Word is Ambrosial Nectar.

ਤੇਰਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਣੀਆ ॥

teriaa bhagataa ridai samaaneea |

It permeates the hearts of Your devotees.

ਸੁਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਖਿਐ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੨॥

sukh sevaa andar rakhiai aapanee nadar kareh nisataar jeeo |12|

Serving You, peace is obtained; granting Your Mercy, You bestow salvation. ||12||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥

satigur miliaa jaaneeai |

Meeting with the True Guru, one comes to know;

ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥

jit miliai naam vakhaaneeai |

by this meeting, one comes to chant the Name.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਭ ਥਕੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੩॥

satigur baajh na paaeo sabh thakee karam kamaae jeeo |13|

Without the True Guru, God is not found; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals. ||13||

ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੁਮਾਇਆ ॥

hau satigur vittahu ghumaaeaa |

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru;

ਜਿਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jin bhram bhulaa maarag paaeaa |

I was wandering in doubt, and He has set me on the right path.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਰਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੪॥

nadar kare je aapanee aape le ralaae jeeo |14|

If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, He unites us with Himself. ||14||

ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

toon sabhanaa maeh samaaeaa |

You, Lord, are pervading in all,

ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

tin karatai aap lukaaeaa |

and yet, the Creator keeps Himself concealed.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਜੋਤਿ ਧਰੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੫॥

naanak guramukh paragatt hoeaa jaa kau jot dharee karataar jeeo |15|

O Nanak, the Creator is revealed to the Gurmukh, within whom He has infused His Light. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਖਸਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥

aape khasam nivaajiaa |

The Master Himself bestows honor.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥

jeeo pindd de saajiaa |

He creates and bestows body and soul.

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੀਆ ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੬॥

aapane sevak kee paij rakheea due kar masatak dhaar jeeo |16|

He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; He places both His Hands upon their foreheads. ||16||

ਸਭਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ॥

sabh sanjam rahe siaanapaa |

All strict rituals are just clever contrivances.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥

meraa prabh sabh kichh jaanadaa |

My God knows everything.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਵਰਤਾਇਓ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਕਰੈ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੭॥

pragatt prataap varataaeo sabh lok karai jaikaar jeeo |17|

He has made His Glory manifest, and all people celebrate Him. ||17||

ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਨ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥

mere gun avagan na beechaariaa |

He has not considered my merits and demerits;

ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਰਿਆ ॥

prabh apanaa birad samaariaa |

this is God's Own Nature.

ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੮॥

kantth laae kai rakhion lagai na tatee vaau jeeo |18|

Hugging me close in His Embrace, He protects me, and now, even the hot wind does not touch me. ||18||

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

mai man tan prabhoo dhiaaeaa |

Within my mind and body, I meditate on God.

ਜੀਇ ਇਛਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jee ichhiarraa fal paaeaa |

I have obtained the fruits of my soul's desire.

ਸਾਹ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਿਰਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੯॥

saah paatisaah sir khasam toon jap naanak jeevai naau jeeo |19|

You are the Supreme Lord and Master, above the heads of kings. Nanak lives by chanting Your Name. ||19||

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

tudh aape aap upaaeaa |

You Yourself created the Universe;

ਦੂਜਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਦਿਖਲਾਇਆ ॥

doojaa khel kar dikhalaaeaa |

You created the play of duality, and staged it.

ਸਭੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੦॥

sabh sacho sach varatadaa jis bhaavai tisai bujhaae jeeo |20|

The Truest of the True is pervading everywhere; He instructs those with whom He is pleased. ||20||

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

gur parasaadee paaeaa |

By Guru's Grace, I have found God.

ਤਿਥੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

tithai maaeaa mohu chukaaeaa |

By His Grace, I have shed emotional attachment to Maya.

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੧॥

kirapaa kar kai aapanee aape le samaae jeeo |21|

Showering His Mercy, He has blended me into Himself. ||21||

ਗੋਪੀ ਨੈ ਗੋਆਲੀਆ ॥

gopee nai goaaleea |

You are the Gopis, the milk-maids of Krishna; You are the sacred river Jamunaa; You are Krishna, the herdsman.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੋਇ ਉਠਾਲੀਆ ॥

tudh aape goe utthaaleea |

You Yourself support the world.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਭੰਨਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੨॥

hukamee bhaandde saajiaa toon aape bhan savaar jeeo |22|

By Your Command, human beings are fashioned. You Yourself embellish them, and then again destroy them. ||22||

ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

jin satigur siau chit laaeaa |

Those who have focused their consciousness on the True Guru

ਤਿਨੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

tinee doojaa bhaau chukaaeaa |

have rid themselves of the love of duality.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆ ਓਇ ਚਲੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੩॥

niramal jot tin praaneea oe chale janam savaar jeeo |23|

The light of those mortal beings is immaculate. They depart after redeeming their lives. ||23||

ਤੇਰੀਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ॥

tereea sadaa sadaa changiaaeea |

I praise the Greatness of Your Goodness,

ਮੈ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ॥

mai raat dihai vaddiaaeean |

Forever and ever, night and day.

ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਣਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੪॥੧॥

anamangiaa daan devanaa kahu naanak sach samaal jeeo |24|1|

You bestow Your Gifts, even if we do not ask for them. Says Nanak, contemplate the True Lord. ||24||1||
