When Hussain was killed, the warriors were in great fury.
ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਅਵਰੇ ਸਭੈ ਉਠਿਓ ਕਟੋਚਨ ਜੋਸੁ ॥੫੩॥

All the other fled, but the forces of Katoch felt excited. 53.

hinmat kinmat sahit risaae |
All the soldiers of Katoch with great anger together with Himmat and Kimmat.

haree singh tab keeyaa utthaanaa |
ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਹਨੇ ਪਖਰੀਯਾ ਜੁਆਨਾ ॥੫੪॥

Then Hari Singh, who came forward, killed many brave horsemen.54

Then the Raja of Katoch became furious and stood firmly in the field.
ਸਰੱਕ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰਹੀ ॥
sarak sasatr jhaarahee |
ਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਉਚਾਰਹੀ ॥੫੫॥
su maar maar uchaarahee |55|
He used his weapons unerringly shouting death (for the enemy).55.
ਚੰਦੇਲ ਚੌਪੀਯੰ ਤਬੈ ॥

ਰਿਸਾਤ ਧਾਤ ਭੇ ਸਬੈ ॥
risaat dhaat bhe sabai |
(From the other side) the Raja of Chandel got enraged and attacked all in a body with indignation.
ਜਿਤੇ ਗਏ ਸੁ ਮਾਰੀਯੰ ॥

ਬਚੇ ਤਿਤੇ ਸਿਧਾਰੀਯੰ ॥੫੬॥

Those who faced him were killed and those who remained behind, ran away.56.

ਸਾਤ ਸਵਾਰਨ ਕੇ ਸਹਿਤ ਜੂਝੇ ਸੰਗਤ ਰਾਇ ॥
saat savaaran ke sahit joojhe sangat raae |
(Sangita Singh) died with his seven companions.
ਦਰਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਜੂਝੈ ਤਿਨੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੁਝਤ ਭਯੋ ਆਇ ॥੫੭॥
daraso sun joojhai tinai bahut jujhat bhayo aae |57|
When Darsho came to know of it, he also came in the field and died. 57.
ਹਿੰਮਤ ਹੂੰ ਉਤਰਿਯੋ ਤਹਾ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤ ਮੰਝਾਰ ॥
hinmat hoon utariyo tahaa beer khet manjhaar |
Then Himmat came in the battlefield.
ਕੇਤਨ ਕੇ ਤਨਿ ਘਾਇ ਸਹਿ ਕੇਤਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਨਿ ਝਾਰ ॥੫੮॥
ketan ke tan ghaae seh ketan kai tan jhaar |58|
He received several wounds and struck his weapons on several others.58.
ਬਾਜ ਤਹਾਂ ਜੂਝਤ ਭਯੋ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਗਯੋ ਪਰਾਇ ॥
baaj tahaan joojhat bhayo hinmat gayo paraae |
His horse was killed there, but Himmat fled.
ਲੋਥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਹਿ ਕੀ ਨਮਿਤ ਕੋਪਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਰਰਾਇ ॥੫੯॥

The warriors of Katoch came with great rage in order ot take away the dead body of their Raja Kirpal.59.

The warriors are busy in wreaking vengeance, they become martyrs facing the sword.

ਲਰਿਓ ਸੈਨ ਭਾਜੀ ॥੬੦॥

The warrior Kirpa Ram fought so severely that all the army seems running away. 60.

ਨ੍ਰਿਭੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਹੈਂ ॥

He tramples the big army and strikes his weapon fearlessly.
ਘਨਿਯੋ ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥

ਚਲੈ ਜੱਸ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥੬੧॥

After destroying many and receiving approbation, he hath left.61.
ਬਜੇ ਸੰਖ ਨਾਦੰ ॥

ਸੁਰੰ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਾਦੰ ॥

The conches and trumpets resound and their sound is heard constantly.
ਬਜੇ ਡੌਰ ਡੱਢੰ ॥

ਹਠੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੱਢੰ ॥੬੨॥

The tabors and drums resound and the warriors are taking out their weapons.62.

There is overcrowding and the kings have fallen as martyrs.

ਮੰਡੇ ਬੀਰ ਹੰਕੰ ॥੬੩॥

The warriors on whose faces there are winsome whiskers, they are shouting very loudly.63.
ਮੁਖੰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੋਲੈਂ ॥
mukhan maar bolain |
ਰਣੰ ਭੂਮਿ ਡੋਲੈਂ ॥
ranan bhoom ddolain |
From their mouths, they are shouting “kill. Kill”, and roam in he battlefield.
ਹਥਿਆਰੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੈਂ ॥
hathiaaran sanbhaarain |
ਉਭੈ ਬਾਜ ਡਾਰੈਂ ॥੬੪॥

They hold they weapons and cause the horses of both sides to flee.64

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
satigur miliai fer na pavai janam maran dukh jaae |
Meeting with the True Guru, you shall not have to go through the cycle of reincarnation again; the pains of birth and death will be taken away.
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
poorai sabad sabh sojhee hoee har naamai rahai samaae |1|
Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, all understanding is obtained; remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
man mere satigur siau chit laae |
O my mind, focus your consciousness on the True Guru.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਨਵਤਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
niramal naam sad navatano aap vasai man aae |1| rahaau |
The Immaculate Naam itself, ever-fresh, comes to abide within the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਣਾ ॥
har jeeo raakhahu apunee saranaaee jiau raakheh tiau rahanaa |
O Dear Lord, please protect and preserve me in Your Sanctuary. As You keep me, so do I remain.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad jeevat marai guramukh bhavajal taranaa |2|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Gurmukh remains dead while yet alive, and swims across the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥
vaddai bhaag naau paaeeai guramat sabad suhaaee |
By great good fortune, the Name is obtained. Following the Guru's Teachings, through the Shabad, you shall be exalted.
ਆਪੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
aape man vasiaa prabh karataa sahaje rahiaa samaaee |3|
God, the Creator Himself, dwells within the mind; remain absorbed in the state of intuitive balance. ||3||
ਇਕਨਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਭਵਾਇਆ ॥
eikanaa manamukh sabad na bhaavai bandhan bandh bhavaaeaa |
Some are self-willed manmukhs; they do not love the Word of the Shabad. Bound in chains, they wander lost in reincarnation.
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
lakh chauraaseeh fir fir aavai birathaa janam gavaaeaa |4|
Through 8.4 million lifetimes, they wander over and over again; they waste away their lives in vain. ||4||
ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
bhagataa man aanand hai sachai sabad rang raate |
In the minds of the devotees there is bliss; they are attuned to the Love of the True Word of the Shabad.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਤੇ ॥੫॥
anadin gun gaaveh sad niramal sahaje naam samaate |5|
Night and day, they constantly sing the Glories of the Immaculate Lord; with intuitive ease, they are absorbed into the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh amrit baanee boleh sabh aatam raam pachhaanee |
The Gurmukhs speak the Ambrosial Bani; they recognize the Lord, the Supreme Soul in all.
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੬॥
eko sevan ek araadheh guramukh akath kahaanee |6|
They serve the One; they worship and adore the One. The Gurmukhs speak the Unspoken Speech. ||6||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
sachaa saahib seveeai guramukh vasai man aae |
The Gurmukhs serve their True Lord and Master, who comes to dwell in the mind.
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
sadaa rang raate sach siau apunee kirapaa kare milaae |7|
They are forever attuned to the Love of the True One, who bestows His Mercy and unites them with Himself. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਇਕਨਾ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਦੇਇ ਜਗਾਇ ॥
aape kare karaae aape ikanaa sutiaa dee jagaae |
He Himself does, and He Himself causes others to do; He wakes some from their sleep.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੪॥
aape mel milaaeidaa naanak sabad samaae |8|7|24|
He Himself unites us in Union; Nanak is absorbed in the Shabad. ||8||7||24||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਭਏ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
satigur seviai man niramalaa bhe pavit sareer |
Serving the True Guru, the mind becomes immaculate, and the body becomes pure.
ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
man aanand sadaa sukh paaeaa bhettiaa gahir ganbheer |
The mind obtains bliss and eternal peace, meeting with the Deep and Profound Lord.
ਸਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰ ॥੧॥
sachee sangat baisanaa sach naam man dheer |1|
Sitting in the Sangat, the True Congregation, the mind is comforted and consoled by the True Name. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥
man re satigur sev nisang |
O mind, serve the True Guru without hesitation.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur seviai har man vasai lagai na mail patang |1| rahaau |
Serving the True Guru, the Lord abides within the mind, and no trace of filth shall attach itself to you. ||1||Pause||
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
sachai sabad pat aoopajai sache sachaa naau |
From the True Word of the Shabad comes honor. True is the Name of the True One.
ਜਿਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinee haumai maar pachhaaniaa hau tin balihaarai jaau |
I am a sacrifice to those who conquer their ego and recognize the Lord.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
manamukh sach na jaananee tin tthaur na katahoo thaau |2|
The self-willed manmukhs do not know the True One; they find no shelter, and no place of rest anywhere. ||2||
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
sach khaanaa sach painanaa sache hee vich vaas |
Those who take the Truth as their food and the Truth as their clothing, have their home in the True One.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
sadaa sachaa saalaahanaa sachai sabad nivaas |
They constantly praise the True One, and in the True Word of the Shabad they have their dwelling.
ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
sabh aatam raam pachhaaniaa guramatee nij ghar vaas |3|
They recognize the Lord, the Supreme Soul in all, and through the Guru's Teachings they dwell in the home of their own inner self. ||3||
ਸਚੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
sach vekhan sach bolanaa tan man sachaa hoe |
They see the Truth, and they speak the Truth; their bodies and minds are True.
ਸਚੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
sachee saakhee upades sach sache sachee soe |
True are their teachings, and True are their instructions; True are the reputations of the true ones.
ਜਿੰਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਚਲੇ ਰੋਇ ॥੪॥
jinee sach visaariaa se dukhee chale roe |4|
Those who have forgotten the True One are miserable-they depart weeping and wailing. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸੇ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਏ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
satigur jinee na sevio se kit aae sansaar |
Those who have not served the True Guru-why did they even bother to come into the world?
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
jam dar badhe maareeeh kook na sunai pookaar |
They are bound and gagged and beaten at Death's door, but no one hears their shrieks and cries.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੫॥
birathaa janam gavaaeaa mar jameh vaaro vaar |5|
They waste their lives uselessly; they die and are reincarnated over and over again. ||5||
ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
ehu jag jalataa dekh kai bhaj pe satigur saranaa |
Seeing this world on fire, I rushed to the Sanctuary of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥
satigur sach dirraaeaa sadaa sach sanjam rahanaa |
The True Guru has implanted the Truth within me; I dwell steadfastly in Truth and self-restraint.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੬॥
satigur sachaa hai bohithaa sabade bhavajal taranaa |6|
The True Guru is the Boat of Truth; in the Word of the Shabad, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||6||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh firade rahe bin satigur mukat na hoee |
People continue wandering through the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations; without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
parr parr panddit monee thake doojai bhaae pat khoee |
Reading and studying, the Pandits and the silent sages have grown weary, but attached to the love of duality, they have lost their honor.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੭॥
satigur sabad sunaaeaa bin sache avar na koee |7|
The True Guru teaches the Word of the Shabad; without the True One, there is no other at all. ||7||
ਜੋ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਏ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
jo sachai laae se sach lage nit sachee kaar karan |
Those who are linked by the True One are linked to Truth. They always act in Truth.
ਤਿਨਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥
tinaa nij ghar vaasaa paaeaa sachai mehal rahan |
They attain their dwelling in the home of their own inner being, and they abide in the Mansion of Truth.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੮॥੨੫॥
naanak bhagat sukhee sadaa sachai naam rachan |8|17|8|25|
O Nanak, the devotees are happy and peaceful forever. They are absorbed in the True Name. ||8||17||8||25||
