Sorat'h, Third Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
har jeeo sabade jaapadaa bhaaee poorai bhaag milaae |
The Dear Lord is realized through the Word of His Shabad, O Siblings of Destiny, which is found only by perfect destiny.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਤੀਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
sadaa sukh sohaaganee bhaaee anadin rateea rang laae |1|
The happy soul-brides are forever in peace, O Siblings of Destiny; night and day, they are attuned to the Lord's Love. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇ ॥
har jee too aape rang charraae |
O Dear Lord, You Yourself color us in Your Love.
ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਿਹੋ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gaavahu gaavahu rang raatiho bhaaee har setee rang laae | rahaau |
Sing, continually sing His Praises, imbued with His Love, O Siblings of Destiny; be in love with the Lord. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
gur kee kaar kamaavanee bhaaee aap chhodd chit laae |
Work to serve the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny; abandon self-conceit, and focus your consciousness.
ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
sadaa sehaj fir dukh na lagee bhaaee har aap vasai man aae |2|
You shall be in peace forever, and you shall not suffer in pain any longer, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord Himself shall come and abide in your mind. ||2||
ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਭਾਈ ਸਾ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਕੁਨਾਰਿ ॥
pir kaa hukam na jaanee bhaaee saa kulakhanee kunaar |
She who does not know the Will of her Husband Lord, O Siblings of Destiny, is an ill-mannered and bitter bride.
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ॥੩॥
manahatth kaar kamaavanee bhaaee vin naavai koorriaar |3|
She does things with a stubborn mind, O Siblings of Destiny; without the Name, she is false. ||3||
ਸੇ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੈ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥
se gaaveh jin masatak bhaag hai bhaaee bhaae sachai bairaag |
They alone sing the Lord's Praises, who have such pre-ordained destiny written upon their foreheads, O Siblings of Destiny; through the Love of the True Lord, they find detachment.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੪॥
anadin raate gun raveh bhaaee nirbhau gur liv laag |4|
Night and day, they are imbued with His Love; they utter His Glorious Praises, O Siblings of Destiny, and they lovingly focus their consciousness on the Fearless Guru. ||4||
ਸਭਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
sabhanaa maar jeevaaladaa bhaaee so sevahu din raat |
He kills and revives all, O Siblings of Destiny; serve Him, day and night.
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੫॥
so kiau manahu visaareeai bhaaee jis dee vaddee hai daat |5|
How can we forget Him from our minds, O Siblings of Destiny? His gifts are glorious and great. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲੀ ਡੁੰਮਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥
manamukh mailee ddunmanee bhaaee daragah naahee thaau |
The self-willed manmukh is filthy and double-minded, O Siblings of Destiny; the finds no place of rest in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੬॥
guramukh hovai ta gun ravai bhaaee mil preetam saach samaau |6|
But if she becomes Gurmukh, then she chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny; the meets her True Beloved, and merges in Him. ||6||
ਏਤੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਭਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
et janam har na chetio bhaaee kiaa muhu desee jaae |
In this life, she has not focused her consciousness on the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny; how can she show her face when she leaves?
ਕਿੜੀ ਪਵੰਦੀ ਮੁਹਾਇਓਨੁ ਭਾਈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨੋ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥੭॥
kirree pavandee muhaaeon bhaaee bikhiaa no lobhaae |7|
In spite of the warning calls which were sounded, she has been plundered, O Siblings of Destiny; she yearned only for corruption. ||7||
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਭਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
naam samaaleh sukh vaseh bhaaee sadaa sukh saant sareer |
Those who dwell upon the Naam, O Siblings of Destiny, their bodies are ever peaceful and tranquil.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਭਾਈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak naam samaal too bhaaee aparanpar gunee gaheer |8|3|
O Nanak, dwell upon the Naam; the Lord is infinite, virtuous and unfathomable, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8||3||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
sabh jag jineh upaaeaa bhaaee karan kaaran samarath |
The One who created the whole world, O Siblings of Destiny, is the Almighty Lord, the Cause of causes.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਵਥੁ ॥
jeeo pindd jin saajiaa bhaaee de kar apanee vath |
He fashioned the soul and the body, O Siblings of Destiny, by His own power.
ਕਿਨਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਅਕਥੁ ॥
kin kaheeai kiau dekheeai bhaaee karataa ek akath |
How can He be described? How can He be seen, O Siblings of Destiny? The Creator is One; He is indescribable.
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ਤਥੁ ॥੧॥
gur govind salaaheeai bhaaee jis te jaapai tath |1|
Praise the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, O Siblings of Destiny; through Him, the essence is known. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥
mere man japeeai har bhagavantaa |
O my mind, meditate on the Lord, the Lord God.
ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਕਾ ਹੰਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam daan dee jan apane dookh darad kaa hantaa | rahaau |
He blesses His servant with the gift of the Naam; He is the Destroyer of pain and suffering. ||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
jaa kai ghar sabh kichh hai bhaaee nau nidh bhare bhanddaar |
Everything is in His home, O Siblings of Destiny; His warehouse is overflowing with the nine treasures.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
tis kee keemat naa pavai bhaaee aoochaa agam apaar |
His worth cannot be estimated, O Siblings of Destiny; He is lofty, inaccessible and infinite.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਸਾਰ ॥
jeea jant pratipaaladaa bhaaee nit nit karadaa saar |
He cherishes all beings and creatures, O Siblings of Destiny; he continually takes care of them.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
satigur pooraa bhetteeai bhaaee sabad milaavanahaar |2|
So meet with the Perfect True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, and merge in the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਸਚੇ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੇਵੀਅਹਿ ਭਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਸੁ ॥
sache charan sareveeeh bhaaee bhram bhau hovai naas |
Adoring the feet of the True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, doubt and fear are dispelled.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਂਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
mil sant sabhaa man maanjeeai bhaaee har kai naam nivaas |
Joining the Society of the Saints, cleanse your mind, O Siblings of Destiny, and dwell in the Name of the Lord.
ਮਿਟੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਕਮਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
mittai andheraa agiaanataa bhaaee kamal hovai paragaas |
The darkness of ignorance shall be dispelled, O Siblings of Destiny, and the lotus of your heart shall blossom forth.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਸਭਿ ਫਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
gur bachanee sukh aoopajai bhaaee sabh fal satigur paas |3|
By the Guru's Word, peace wells up, O Siblings of Destiny; all fruits are with the True Guru. ||3||
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਹੋਈਐ ਸਭ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
meraa teraa chhoddeeai bhaaee hoeeai sabh kee dhoor |
Give up your sense of mine and yours, O Siblings of Destiny, and become the dust of the feet of all.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਪੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
ghatt ghatt braham pasaariaa bhaaee pekhai sunai hajoor |
In each and every heart, God is contained, O Siblings of Destiny; He sees, and hears, and is ever-present with us.
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਮਰੀਐ ਝੂਰਿ ॥
jit din visarai paarabraham bhaaee tith din mareeai jhoor |
On that day when one forgets the Supreme Lord God, O Siblings of Destiny, on that day, one ought to die crying out in pain.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਮਰਥੋ ਭਾਈ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੪॥
karan karaavan samaratho bhaaee sarab kalaa bharapoor |4|
He is the all-powerful Cause of Causes, O Siblings of Destiny; he is totally filled with all powers. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
prem padaarath naam hai bhaaee maaeaa moh binaas |
The Love of the Name is the greatest treasure, O Siblings of Destiny; through it, emotional attachment to Maya is dispelled.
ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਭਾਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
tis bhaavai taa mel le bhaaee hiradai naam nivaas |
If it is pleasing to His Will, then He unites us in His Union, O Siblings of Destiny; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide in the mind.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਰਿਦੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
guramukh kamal pragaaseeai bhaaee ridai hovai paragaas |
The heart-lotus of the Gurmukh blossoms forth, O Siblings of Destiny, and the heart is illumined.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਈ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ॥੫॥
pragatt bheaa parataap prabh bhaaee mauliaa dharat akaas |5|
The Glory of God has been revealed, O Siblings of Destiny, and the earth and sky have blossomed forth. ||5||
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
gur poorai santokhiaa bhaaee ahinis laagaa bhaau |
The Perfect Guru has blessed me with contentment, O Siblings of Destiny; day and night, I remain attached to the Lord's Love.
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
rasanaa raam ravai sadaa bhaaee saachaa saad suaau |
My tongue continually chants the Lord's Name, O Siblings of Destiny; this is the true taste, and the object of human life.
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਥਾਉ ॥
karanee sun sun jeeviaa bhaaee nihachal paaeaa thaau |
Listening with my ears, I hear and so I live, O Siblings of Destiny; I have obtained the unchanging, unmoving state.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਭਾਈ ਸੋ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥
jis parateet na aavee bhaaee so jeearraa jal jaau |6|
That soul,which does not place its faith in the Lord shall burn, O Siblings of Destiny. ||6||
ਬਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਭਾਈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
bahu gun mere saahibai bhaaee hau tis kai bal jaau |
My Lord and Master has so many virtues, O Siblings of Destiny; I am a sacrifice to Him.
ਓਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੀਆਰੇ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਦੇਇ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥
ohu niraguneeaare paaladaa bhaaee dee nithaave thaau |
He nurtures even the most worthless, O Siblings of Destiny, and gives home to the homeless.
ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਭਾਈ ਗੂੜਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
rijak sanbaahe saas saas bhaaee goorraa jaa kaa naau |
He gives us nourishment with each and every breath, O Siblings of Destiny; His Name is everlasting.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਾਉ ॥੭॥
jis gur saachaa bhetteeai bhaaee pooraa tis karamaau |7|
One who meets with the True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, does so only by perfect destiny. ||7||
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
tis bin gharree na jeeveeai bhaaee sarab kalaa bharapoor |
Without Him, I cannot live, even for an instant, O Siblings of Destiny; He is totally filled with all powers.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਭਾਈ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
saas giraas na visarai bhaaee pekhau sadaa hajoor |
With every breath and morsel of food, I will not forget Him, O Siblings of Destiny; I behold Him ever-present.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
saadhoo sang milaaeaa bhaaee sarab rahiaa bharapoor |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I meet Him, O Siblings of Destiny; He is totally pervading and permeating everywhere.
ਜਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਲਗੀਆ ਭਾਈ ਸੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮਰਦੇ ਝੂਰਿ ॥੮॥
jinaa preet na lageea bhaaee se nit nit marade jhoor |8|
Those who do not embrace love for the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny, always die crying out in pain. ||8||
ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਾਇ ਤਰਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
anchal laae taraaeaa bhaaee bhaujal dukh sansaar |
Grasping hold of the hem of His robe, O Siblings of Destiny, we are carried across the world-ocean of fear and pain.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਅੰਗੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
kar kirapaa nadar nihaaliaa bhaaee keeton ang apaar |
By His Glance of Grace, He has blessed us, O Siblings of Destiny; He shall be with us until the very end.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
man tan seetal hoeaa bhaaee bhojan naam adhaar |
My mind and body are soothed and calmed, O Siblings of Destiny, nourished by the food of the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਭਾਈ ਜਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੯॥੧॥
naanak tis saranaagatee bhaaee ji kilabikh kaattanahaar |9|1|
Nanak has entered His Sanctuary, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord is the Destroyer of sins. ||9||1||
