SPEECH OF THE GOD
ਮਨ ਚਿਤ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵ ॥
man chit kai kar sev |
ਤਬ ਰੀਝਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
tab reejh hai guradev |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਥ ਸਨਾਥ ॥
tab hoe naath sanaath |
ਜਗਨਾਥ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ॥੨੬॥
jaganaath deenaa naath |26|
(Vishnu said) “When you will adore Lord-God with the fullness of your heart, then the Lord who is the support of the helpless, will fulfill you wish.”26.
ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਯੌ ਮੁਖਚਾਰ ॥
sun bain yau mukhachaar |
ਕੀਅ ਚਉਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
keea chauk chit bichaar |
ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵ ॥
autth laagiaa har sev |
ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਖ︀ਯੋ ਦੇਵ ॥੨੭॥
jih bhaat bhaakhayo dev |27|
Hearing this Brahma began to worship and make offerings exactly in the same way, as Vishnu had suggested.27.
ਪਰਿ ਪਾਇ ਚੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥
par paae chandd prachandd |
ਜਿਹ ਮੰਡ ਦੁਸਟ ਅਖੰਡ ॥
jih mandd dusatt akhandd |
ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾਛ ਲੋਚਨ ਧੂਮ ॥
jvaalaachh lochan dhoom |
ਹਨਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਡਾਰੇ ਭੂਮਿ ॥੨੮॥
han jaas ddaare bhoom |28|
Vishnu also said this, that the powerful Chandika, the destroyer of the tyrants should also be adored, who had killed the demons like Jawalaksha and Dhumar Lochan.28
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਹੋ ਜਬ ਜਾਪ ॥
tis jaap ho jab jaap |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ॥
tab hoe pooran sraap |
“When you will worship all of them, then the curse on you will terminte
ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗ ਕਾਲ ਜਪੰਨ ॥
autth laag kaal japan |
ਹਠਿ ਤਿਆਗ ਆਵ ਸਰੰਨ ॥੨੯॥
hatth tiaag aav saran |29|
Worship the unmanifested Brahman and abandoning your persistence, you may go under his shelter.29.
ਜੇ ਜਾਤ ਤਾਸੁ ਸਰੰਨਿ ॥
je jaat taas saran |
ਤੇ ਹੈ ਧਰਾ ਮੈ ਧਨਿ ॥
te hai dharaa mai dhan |
“Blessed are they, on the earth, who go under His refuge
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਨ ਕਉਨੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥
tin kau na kaunai traas |
ਸਬ ਹੋਤ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ॥੩੦॥
sab hot kaaraj raas |30|
They do not fear anyone and all their tasks are fulfilled.30.
ਦਸ ਲਛ ਬਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥
das lachh barakh pramaan |
ਰਹ︀ਯੋ ਠਾਢ ਏਕ ਪਗਾਨ ॥
rehayo tthaadt ek pagaan |
ਚਿਤ ਲਾਇ ਕੀਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
chit laae keenee sev |
ਤਬ ਰੀਝਿ ਗੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੩੧॥
tab reejh ge guradev |31|
For ten Lack years Brahma stood on one leg and when he served the Lord with the singleness of his heart, then the Guru-Lord was pleased.31.
ਜਬ ਭੇਤ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੀਨ ॥
jab bhet devee deen |
ਤਬ ਸੇਵ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕੀਨ ॥
tab sev brahamaa keen |
ਜਬ ਸੇਵ ਕੀ ਚਿਤ ਲਾਇ ॥
jab sev kee chit laae |
ਤਬ ਰੀਝਿ ਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੩੨॥
tab reejh ge har raae |32|
When with the goddess explained the myself, then Brahma served with fullness of his mind, and the unmanifested Bharma was pleased with him.32.
ਤਬ ਭਯੋ ਸੁ ਐਸ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
tab bhayo su ais uchaar |
ਹਉ ਆਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ॥
hau aaeh grab prahaar |
ਮਮ ਗਰਬ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ ਛੋਰਿ ॥
mam garab kahoon na chhor |
ਸਭ ਕੀਨ ਜੇਰ ਮਰੋਰਿ ॥੩੩॥
sabh keen jer maror |33|
Then there was such-like voice from heaven,”I am the masher of pride and I have subjugated all.33.
ਤੈ ਗਰਬ ਕੀਨ ਸੁ ਕਾਹਿ ॥
tai garab keen su kaeh |
ਨਹਿ ਮੋਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਾਹਿ ॥
neh moh bhaavat taeh |
“You had been puffed up with pride, therefore I did not like you
ਅਬ ਕਹੋ ਏਕ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
ab kaho ek bichaar |
ਜਿਮਿ ਹੋਇ ਤੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੩੪॥
jim hoe tohi udhaar |34|
Now I sea this and tell you as to how you will be redeemed.34.
ਧਰਿ ਸਪਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
dhar sapat bhoom vataar |
ਤਬ ਹੋਇ ਤੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥
tab hoe tohi udhaar |
“You may now assume seven incarnation on the earth for your redemption
ਸੋਈ ਮਾਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਲੀਨ ॥
soee maan brahamaa leen |
ਧਰਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਗਤਿ ਨਵੀਨ ॥੩੫॥
dhar janam jagat naveen |35|
” Brahma accepted all this and assumed new births in the world.35.
ਮੁਰਿ ਨਿੰਦ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਤੂਲਿ ॥
mur nind usatat tool |
ਇਮਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਜੀਯ ਜਿਨਿ ਭੂਲਿ ॥
eim jaan jeey jin bhool |
“Never forget from your mind my slander and praise
ਇਕ ਕਹੋ ਔਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
eik kaho aauar bichaar |
ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥੩੬॥
sun lehu braham kumaar |36|
O Brahma! Also listen to one thing more36
ਇਕ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
eik bisan mohi dhiaan |
ਬਹੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਿਝਾਨ ॥
bahu sev mohi rijhaan |
“A god named Vishnu has also meditated on me and greatly pleased me
ਤਿਨਿ ਮਾਗਿਆ ਬਰ ਐਸ ॥
tin maagiaa bar ais |
ਮਮ ਦੀਨ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਤੈਸ ॥੩੭॥
mam deen taa kahu tais |37|
He has also asked for a boon from me, which I have bestowed on him.37.
ਮਮ ਤਾਸ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mam taas bhed na koe |
ਸਬ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਨਤ ਸੋਇ ॥
sab lok jaanat soe |
“There is no difference between me and him, all the people know this
ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥
tih jaan hai karataar |
ਸਬ ਲੋਕ ਅਲੋਕ ਪਹਾਰ ॥੩੮॥
sab lok alok pahaar |38|
The people consider him the creator of this and the next world and their destroyer.38.
ਜਬ ਜਬ ਧਰੇ ਬਪੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
jab jab dhare bap soe |
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo jo paraakram hoe |
ਸੋ ਸੋ ਕਥੌ ਅਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
so so kathau abichaar |
ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥੩੯॥
sun lehu braham kumaar |39|
“Whenever we will assume the incarnations and whatever he will do. O Brahma! You may describe team.”39.
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
soratth mahalaa 5 |
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
raajan meh raajaa urajhaaeo maanan meh abhimaanee |
As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism,
ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥
lobhan meh lobhee lobhaaeo tiau har rang rache giaanee |1|
and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
har jan kau ihee suhaavai |
This is what befits the Lord's servant.
ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pekh nikatt kar sevaa satigur har keeratan hee tripataavai | rahaau |
Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||Pause||
ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
amalan siau amalee lapattaaeo bhooman bhoom piaaree |
The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land.
ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
kheer sang baarik hai leenaa prabh sant aise hitakaaree |2|
As the baby is attached to his milk, so the Saint is in love with God. ||2||
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
bidiaa meh biduansee rachiaa nain dekh sukh paaveh |
The scholar is absorbed in scholarship, and the eyes are happy to see.
ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
jaise rasanaa saad lubhaanee tiau har jan har gun gaaveh |3|
As the tongue savors the tastes, so does the humble servant of the Lord sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jaisee bhookh taisee kaa poorak sagal ghattaa kaa suaamee |
As is the hunger, so is the fulfiller; He is the Lord and Master of all hearts.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥
naanak piaas lagee darasan kee prabh miliaa antarajaamee |4|5|16|
Nanak thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; he has met God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||5||16||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਮ ਮੈਲੇ ਤੁਮ ਊਜਲ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਮ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
ham maile tum aoojal karate ham niragun too daataa |
We are filthy, and You are immaculate, O Creator Lord; we are worthless, and You are the Great Giver.
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੁਮ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੧॥
ham moorakh tum chatur siaane too sarab kalaa kaa giaataa |1|
We are fools, and You are wise and all-knowing. You are the knower of all things. ||1||
ਮਾਧੋ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਤੂ ਐਸਾ ॥
maadho ham aise too aisaa |
O Lord, this is what we are, and this is what You are.
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨ ਨੀਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham paapee tum paap khanddan neeko tthaakur desaa | rahaau |
We are sinners, and You are the Destroyer of sins. Your abode is so beautiful, O Lord and Master. ||Pause||
ਤੁਮ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥
tum sabh saaje saaj nivaaje jeeo pindd de praanaa |
You fashion all, and having fashioned them, You bless them. You bestow upon them soul, body and the breath of life.
ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
niraguneeaare gun nahee koee tum daan dehu miharavaanaa |2|
We are worthless - we have no virtue at all; please, bless us with Your gift, O Merciful Lordand Master. ||2||
ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਭਲਾ ਹਮ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਤੁਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
tum karahu bhalaa ham bhalo na jaanah tum sadaa sadaa deaalaa |
You do good for us, but we do not see it as good; You are kind and compassionate, forever and ever.
ਤੁਮ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
tum sukhadaaee purakh bidhaate tum raakhahu apune baalaa |3|
You are the Giver of peace, the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny; please, save us, Your children! ||3||
ਤੁਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਟਲ ਸੁਲਿਤਾਨ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਚੈ ॥
tum nidhaan attal sulitaan jeea jant sabh jaachai |
You are the treasure, eternal Lord King; all beings and creatures beg of You.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਇਹੈ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥
kahu naanak ham ihai havaalaa raakh santan kai paachhai |4|6|17|
Says Nanak, such is our condition; please, Lord, keep us on the Path of the Saints. ||4||6||17||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥
soratth mahalaa 5 ghar 2 |
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl, Second House:
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਨ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਦੇ ਤਹ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
maat garabh meh aapan simaran de teh tum raakhanahaare |
In our mother's womb, You blessed us with Your meditative remembrance, and You preserved us there.
ਪਾਵਕ ਸਾਗਰ ਅਥਾਹ ਲਹਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਰਹੁ ਤਾਰਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
paavak saagar athaah lehar meh taarahu taaranahaare |1|
Through the countless waves of the ocean of fire, please, carry us across and save us, O Savior Lord! ||1||
ਮਾਧੌ ਤੂ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰਾ ॥
maadhau too tthaakur sir moraa |
O Lord, You are the Master above my head.
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਧੋਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eehaa aoohaa tuhaaro dhoraa | rahaau |
Here and hereafter, You alone are my Support. ||Pause||
ਕੀਤੇ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਮਾਨੈ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
keete kau merai samaanai karanahaar trin jaanai |
He looks upon the creation like a mountain of gold, and sees the Creator as a blade of grass.
ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਉ ਸਗਲੀ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
too daataa maagan kau sagalee daan dehi prabh bhaanai |2|
You are the Great Giver, and we are all mere beggars; O God, You give gifts according to Your Will. ||2||
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਖਿਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਚਲਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
khin meh avar khinai meh avaraa acharaj chalat tumaare |
In an instant, You are one thing, and in another instant, You are another. Wondrous are Your ways!
ਰੂੜੋ ਗੂੜੋ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੋ ਊਚੌ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
roorro goorro gahir ganbheero aoochau agam apaare |3|
You are beautiful, mysterious, profound, unfathomable, lofty, inaccessible and infinite. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਉ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਸੁਨੀ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
saadhasang jau tumeh milaaeo tau sunee tumaaree baanee |
When You brought me to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, then I heard the Bani of Your Word.
ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੮॥
anad bheaa pekhat hee naanak prataap purakh nirabaanee |4|7|18|
Nanak is in ecstasy, beholding the Glory of the Primal Lord of Nirvaanaa. ||4||7||18||
