ਉਤ ਕੋਪਿ ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਧਾਮਿ ਗਯੋ ਇਤ ਦੈਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਇਹ ਕੋਪੁ ਬਸਾਯੋ ॥
aut kop durajodhan dhaam gayo it dait huto ih kop basaayo |
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਹਤਿਯੋ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲ ਹੁਤੋ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਰਿਓ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਸੁਕਚਾਯੋ ॥
kaanrah hatiyo sisupaal huto mero mitr mario na ratee sukachaayo |
On that side Duryodhana went away and on this side a demon thinking this became angry that Krishna had killed his friend Shishupal fearlessly
ਲੈ ਸਿਵ ਤੇ ਬਰ ਹਉ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਬਧੁ ਜਾਇ ਕਰੋ ਜੀਅ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
lai siv te bar hau ih ko badh jaae karo jeea bheetar aayo |
ਧਾਇ ਕਿਦਾਰ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਇਹੈ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥੨੩੬੫॥
dhaae kidaar kee or chalio kab sayaam ihai chit mai tthaharaayo |2365|
He thought that he could kill Krishna after obtaining a boon from Shiva and thinking about it, he started for Kedar.2365.
ਬਦ੍ਰੀ ਕਿਦਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀ ਮਹਾਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਰਿਝਾਯੋ ॥
badree kidaar ke bheetar jaae kai sev karee mahaarudr rijhaayo |
ਲੈ ਕੈ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਚਲਿਓ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਧੁ ਕੋ ਬਰੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
lai kai bivaan chalio ut te jab hee har ke badh ko bar paayo |
He went to Badri-Kedarnath, where he, through great austerities, pleased the great Shiva and when he obtained the boon of killing Krishna, he mounted the air-vehicle and went
ਦ੍ਵਾਰਵਤੀ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
dvaaravatee hoo ke bheetar aae kai kaanrah ke putr so judh machaayo |
On coming to Dwarka, he began the fighting with the son of Krishna
ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਿਦਾ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਭੂਪ ਤੇ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥੨੩੬੬॥
so sun sayaam bidaa lai kai bhoop te sayaam bhanai tih tthaur sidhaayo |2366|
When Krishna heared this, he bade farewell to king Yudhishtar and went there.2366.
ਦ੍ਵਾਰਵਤੀ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਜਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਗਯੋ ਤਉ ਸੋਊ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dvaaravatee hoo ke beech jabai har joo gayo tau soaoo satru nihaariyo |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਕਉ ਲਰੁ ਰੇ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sayaam bhanai tab hee tih kau lar re ham so brijanaath uchaariyo |
When Krishna reached Dwarka, he saw the enemy and challenging him asked him to come forward for fighting with him
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਵਾ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਸਿ ਕਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
yau sun vaa bateeyaa har ko kas kaan pramaan lau baan prahaariyo |
ਮਾਨੋ ਤਚੀ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਵਕ ਊਪਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੁਝਾਇਬੇ ਕੋ ਘ੍ਰਿਤ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੩੬੭॥
maano tachee at paavak aoopar kaahoo bujhaaeibe ko ghrit ddaariyo |2367|
Listening to the words of Krishna, he pulled his bow upto his ear and struck the blow with this arrow like putting ghee for extinguishing the fire.2367.
ਮਾਰਤ ਭਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਬਾਨ ਜਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਵਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਧਵਾਯੋ ॥
maarat bhayo ar baan jabai har sayandan vaahee kee or dhavaayo |
When the enemy was discharging his arrow, Krishna caused his chariot to be driven towards him
ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਸੋ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਏਊ ਗੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
aavat bhayo ut te ar so it te eaoo ge mil kai ran paayo |
From that side, the enemy was coming and from this side he went to collide with him
ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਹੂ ਬਲਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਢਾਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਕਬਿ ਯੌ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
sayandan hoo bal kai sang sayandan dtaeh dayo kab yau jas gaayo |
ਜਿਉ ਸਹਬਾਜ ਮਨੋ ਚਕਵਾ ਸੰਗ ਏਕ ਧਕਾ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੨੩੬੮॥
jiau sahabaaj mano chakavaa sang ek dhakaa hoo ke maar giraayo |2368|
With the strength of his chariot, he caused his chariot to fall down like a falcon knocking down the partridge with one blow.2368.
ਰਥ ਤੋਰ ਕੈ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਨੰਦਗ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਕਟਿ ਗ੍ਰੀਵ ਗਿਰਾਈ ॥
rath tor kai satr kee nandag so kab sayaam kahai katt greev giraaee |
He cut down the chariot of his enemy with his dagger and then severing his neck knocked it down
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਸੈਨ ਹੁਤੀ ਸੁ ਭਲੇ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
aaur jitee tih ke sang sain hutee su bhale jamalok patthaaee |
He also despatched his army that was there to the abode of Yama
ਰੋਸ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਨਿ ਸੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
ros bhariyo har tthaadto rahiyo ran so upamaa kab sayaam sunaaee |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਇਕ ਚਉਦਹੂ ਲੋਕ ਮੈ ਪਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਬਡੀ ਯੌ ਸੁ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੨੩੬੯॥
sree brijanaaeik chaudahoo lok mai paavat bhayo baddee yau su baddaaee |2369|
Krishna stood in the battlefield filled with ire and in this way, his fame spread in all the fourteen worlds.2369.

sree jadupat jeh tthaadto ho teh hee pahuchio jaae |2370|
Then, getting enraged, the demon Bakatra reached there where Krishna was standing.2370.

To associate with your arch enemies,
ਭੁਇਅੰਗਨਿ ਬਸਰੀਆ ॥
bhueiangan basareea |
is to live with poisonous snakes;
ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥

I have made the effort to shake them off. ||1||
ਤਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੀਆ ॥
tau mai har har kareea |
Then, I repeated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tau sukh sahajareea |1| rahaau |
and I obtained celestial peace. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਰੀਆ ॥
mithan mohareea |
False is the love
ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
an kau mereea |
Of the many emotional attachments,
ਵਿਚਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘਿਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
vich ghooman ghireea |2|
which suck the mortal into the whirlpool of reincarnation. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਬਟਰੀਆ ॥
sagal battareea |
All are travellers,
ਬਿਰਖ ਇਕ ਤਰੀਆ ॥
birakh ik tareea |
who have gathered under the world-tree,
ਬਹੁ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
bahu bandheh pareea |3|
and are bound by their many bonds. ||3||
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧ ਸਫਰੀਆ ॥
thir saadh safareea |
Eternal is the Company of the Holy,
ਜਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰੀਆ ॥
jeh keeratan hareea |
where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਰੀਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

No one knows the state of the Lord.
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਪਚਿ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗ ਸਿਆਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jogee jatee tapee pach haare ar bahu log siaane |1| rahaau |
The Yogis, the celibates, the penitents, and all sorts of clever people have failed. ||1||Pause||
ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਉ ਕਰਈ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
chhin meh raau rank kau karee raau rank kar ddaare |
In an instant, He changes the beggar into a king, and the king into a beggar.
ਰੀਤੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਸਖਨਾਵੈ ਯਹ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਵਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
reete bhare bhare sakhanaavai yeh taa ko bivahaare |1|
He fills what is empty, and empties what is full - such are His ways. ||1||
ਅਪਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਹਿ ਦੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
apanee maaeaa aap pasaaree aapeh dekhanahaaraa |
He Himself spread out the expanse of His Maya, and He Himself beholds it.
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਧਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
naanaa roop dhare bahu rangee sabh te rahai niaaraa |2|
He assumes so many forms, and plays so many games, and yet, He remains detached from it all. ||2||
ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਜਿਹ ਸਭ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਾਇਓ ॥
aganat apaar alakh niranjan jih sabh jag bharamaaeo |
Incalculable, infinite, incomprehensible and immaculate is He, who has misled the entire world.
ਸਗਲ ਭਰਮ ਤਜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੩॥੧॥੨॥

Cast off all your doubts; prays Nanak, O mortal, focus your consciousness on His Feet. ||3||1||2||

Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my soul; as Gurmukh, meditate on the invaluable Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਬੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਝਕੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har ras beedhaa har man piaaraa man har ras naam jhakole raam |
My mind is pierced through by the sublime essence of the Lord's Name. The Lord is dear to my mind. With the sublime essence of the Lord's Name, my mind is washed clean.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਡੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramat man tthaharaaeeai meree jindurree anat na kaahoo ddole raam |
Under Guru's Instructions, hold your mind steady; O my soul, do not let it wander anywhere.
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥
man chindiarraa fal paaeaa har prabh gun naanak baanee bole raam |1|
One who utters the Bani of the Praises of the Lord God, O Nanak, obtains the fruits of his heart's desires. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੁਠੜਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੈਣ ਅਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramat man amrit vuttharraa meree jindurree mukh amrit bain alaae raam |
Under Guru's Instruction, the Ambrosial Name abides within the mind, O my soul; with your mouth, utter the words of ambrosia.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
amrit baanee bhagat janaa kee meree jindurree man suneeai har liv laae raam |
The Words of the devotees are Ambrosial Nectar, O my soul; hearing them in the mind, embrace loving affection for the Lord.
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
chiree vichhunaa har prabh paaeaa gal miliaa sehaj subhaae raam |
Separated for so very long, I have found the Lord God; He holds me close in His loving embrace.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਅਨਹਤ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥
jan naanak man anad bheaa hai meree jindurree anahat sabad vajaae raam |2|
Servant Nanak's mind is filled with bliss, O my soul; the unstruck sound-current of the Shabad vibrates within. ||2||
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਕੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
sakhee sahelee mereea meree jindurree koee har prabh aan milaavai raam |
If only my friends and companions would come and unite me with my Lord God, O my soul.
ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
hau man devau tis aapanaa meree jindurree har prabh kee har kathaa sunaavai raam |
I offer my mind to the one who recites the sermon of my Lord God, O my soul.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramukh sadaa araadh har meree jindurree man chindiarraa fal paavai raam |
As Gurmukh, ever worship the Lord in adoration, O my soul, and you shall obtain the fruits of your heart's desires.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
naanak bhaj har saranaagatee meree jindurree vaddabhaagee naam dhiaavai raam |3|
O Nanak, hurry to the Lord's Sanctuary; O my soul, those who meditate on the Lord's Name are very fortunate. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh aae mil meree jindurree guramat naam paragaase raam |
By His Mercy, God comes to meet us, O my soul; through the Guru's Teachings, He reveals His Name.
ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਝੁ ਉਡੀਣੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਮਲ ਉਦਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
hau har baajh uddeeneea meree jindurree jiau jal bin kamal udaase raam |
Without the Lord, I am so sad, O my soul - as sad as the lotus without water.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
gur poorai melaaeaa meree jindurree har sajan har prabh paase raam |
The Perfect Guru has united me, O my soul, with the Lord, my best friend, the Lord God.
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਦਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਗਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੧॥
dhan dhan guroo har dasiaa meree jindurree jan naanak naam bigaase raam |4|1|
Blessed, blessed is the Guru, who has shown me the Lord, O my soul; servant Nanak blossoms forth in the Name of the Lord. ||4||1||
