ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਉਤਰ ਦੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
kop kai utar det bhayo ih bhaat suniyo jab hee abhimaanee |
ਤੇਰੇ ਕਹੇ ਮਰਿ ਹਉ ਅਰੇ ਗੂਜਰ ਇਉ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਬਾਤ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥
tere kahe mar hau are goojar iau mukh te tin baat bakhaanee |
When that egoist heard this, he said in anger, “O Gujar! (milkman), shall I die by only your words of killing?
ਅਉਰ ਕਹਾ ਜੁ ਪੈ ਐਸੀ ਸਭਾ ਹੂ ਮੈ ਜੂਝਬ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਨਿਜਕਾਨੀ ॥
aaur kahaa ju pai aisee sabhaa hoo mai joojhab mrit hee hai nijakaanee |
It appears that your death has come very near in the court
ਤਉ ਅਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਚਲਿਹੈ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥੨੩੩੯॥
tau are bed puraanan mai chalihai jag mai jug chaar kahaanee |2339|
This story will also continue to be told in all the four ages in Vedas and Puranas.2339.
ਕਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੋ ਚਮਕਾਇ ਕੈ ਚਕ੍ਰਹਿ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਰੋਗੋ ॥
kaa bhayo jo chamakaae kai chakreh aise kahiyo tuhi maar ddarogo |
ਗੂਜਰ ਤੋ ਤੇ ਹਉ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਹਾਇ ਕੈ ਐਸੀ ਸਭਾ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਟਰੋਗੋ ॥
goojar to te hau chhatree kahaae kai aisee sabhaa hoo ke beech ttarogo |
“Glistening your discus, you are threatening to kill me, shall I became afraid by this? Being called a Kshatriya, shall I become afraid in this court from a Gujjar like you?
ਮਾਤ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਅਰੁ ਤਾਤ ਕੀ ਸਉਹ ਰੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਹੋ ਨਹਿ ਆਪ ਮਰੋਗੋ ॥
maat su bhraat ar taat kee sauh re tuhi mar ho neh aap marogo |
ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਰੁਕਮਨਿ ਕੋ ਧਰ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੋ ਸੰਗ ਆਜ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਕਰੋਗੋ ॥੨੩੪੦॥
krodh rukaman ko dhar kai har to sang aaj nidaan karogo |2340|
“I swear by my parents and brother I shall not die today, but shall kill you and I shall today avenge you on account of Rukmi.”2340.
ਕੋਪ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕੀਯੋ ਤਬ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜਬ ਏ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲਹਿ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
kop prachandd keeyo tab sayaam jab e bateeyaa sisupaaleh bhaakhee |
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜੜ ਚਾਹਤ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੀਯੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਗਨਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਸਾਖੀ ॥
kaanrah kahiyo jarr chaahat mrit keeyo sabh logan sooraj saakhee |
When Shishupal said this, then Krishna became greatly enraged and said, “O fool! this whole court and the sun are a witness that you want death,
ਚਕ੍ਰ ਸੁਦਰਸਨ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਭੀਤਰ ਕੂਦਿ ਸਭਾ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੋਊ ਨਾਖੀ ॥
chakr sudarasan lai kar bheetar kood sabhaa sabh hee soaoo naakhee |
ਧਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੋ ਅਭਿਲਾਖੀ ॥੨੩੪੧॥
dhaavat bhayo kab sayaam kahai su bhayo tih ke badh ko abhilaakhee |2341|
“Krishna took the discus in his hand and jumped and advanced forward in order to kill Shishupal.2341.
ਧਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਜੂ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਸੋਊ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਯੋ ॥
dhaavat bhayo brij naaeik joo it te ut te soaoo saamuhe aayo |
On this side Krishna advanced forward and from that side Shishupal came in front of him
ਰੋਸ ਬਢਾਇ ਘਨੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਤਕਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
ros badtaae ghano chit mai tak kai tih satr ko chakr chalaayo |
Getting extremely angry, Krishna discharged his discus towards the enemy
ਜਾਇ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੰਠ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਟਿ ਦੇਤ ਭਯੋ ਛੁਟਿ ਭੂ ਪਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
jaae lagiyo tih kantth bikhai katt det bhayo chhutt bhoo par aayo |
ਇਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਜੀਅ ਮੈ ਦਿਵ ਤੇ ਰਵਿ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੨੩੪੨॥
eiau upamaa upajee jeea mai div te rav ko mano maar giraayo |2342|
The discus hit the throat of Shishupal, his head was chopped and it fell on the ground like the sun being killed had been thrown on the earth.2342.

ਅਥ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਜੂ ਕੋਪ ਰਾਜਾ ਜੁਧਿਸਟਰ ਛਿਮਾਪਨ ਕਰਤ ਭਏ ॥

ਕਾਟ ਕੈ ਸੀਸ ਦਯੋ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲ ਕੋ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਦੋਊ ਨੈਨ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥
kaatt kai sees dayo sisupaal ko kop bhariyo doaoo nain nachaavai |
ਕਉਨ ਬਲੀ ਇਹ ਬੀਚ ਸਭਾ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਸੋਊ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਵੈ ॥
kaun balee ih beech sabhaa hoo ke hai ham so soaoo judh machaavai |
After chopping the head of Shishupal, and getting enraged, Krishna made his eyes dance and said, “Is there anyone so mighty, who can fight with me
ਪਾਰਥ ਭੀਮ ਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਬੀਰ ਰਹੇ ਚੁਪ ਹੋਇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਡਰ ਆਵੈ ॥
paarath bheem te aadik beer rahe chup hoe at hee ddar aavai |
The heroes like Arjuna and Bhima, sat silently with fear
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਐਸੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਬੀਸਰ ਪੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੨੩੪੩॥
sundar aise saroop ke aoopar sayaam kabeesar pai bal jaavai |2343|
The poet Shyam says that the poets are a sacrifice to his most charming figure.2343.
ਜੋਤਿ ਜਿਤੀ ਅਰਿ ਭੀਤਰ ਥੀ ਸੁ ਸਬੈ ਮੁਖ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
jot jitee ar bheetar thee su sabai mukh sayaam ke beech samaanee |
ਬੋਲ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਰਹੇ ਚੁਪ ਹੁਇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਜੁ ਬਡੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
bol sakai na rahe chup hue kab sayaam kahai ju badde abhimaanee |
Whatever power was there in Shishupal, the same got merged in the face of Krishna, many proud warriors there sat silently,
ਬਾਕੋ ਬਲੀ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਹੁਤੀ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਵਤੀ ਰਜਧਾਨੀ ॥
baako balee sisupaal haniyo tih kee hutee chandravatee rajadhaanee |
Shishupal, the very powerful man of Chanderi had been killed by Krishna
ਯਾ ਸਮ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਬੀਯੋ ਜਗਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੨੩੪੪॥
yaa sam aaur na koaoo beeyo jag sree jadubeer sahee prabh jaanee |2344|
Everybody agreed that there was no one so mighty as Krishna in the world.2344.
ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਬਡੋ ਭਟ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਲੀ ਸਿਸੁਪਾਲ ਸੋ ਘਾਯੋ ॥
ek kahai jaduraae baddo bhatt jaeh balee sisupaal so ghaayo |
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਹੁਤੋ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਸੋ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
eindr te sooraj te jam te huto jaat na so jamalok patthaayo |
Everyone said that Krishna was the most powerful hero, who had killed the mighty warrior like Shishupal, who was even unconquerable for Indra, Surya and Yama
ਸੋ ਇਹ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਆਂਖ ਕੇ ਫੋਰ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਜੀਅ ਆਯੋ ॥
so ih ek hee aankh ke for ke bheetar maar dayo jeea aayo |
ਚਉਦਹ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਸਹੀ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥੨੩੪੫॥
chaudah lokan ko karataa kar sree brijanaath sahee tthaharaayo |2345|
He had killed that enemy in the winking of an eye and the same Krishna is the creator of all the fourteen worlds.2345.
ਚਉਦਹ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਧਨ ਸੰਤ ਇਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
chaudah lokan ko karataa ih saadhan sant ihai jeea jaaniyo |
Krishna is the Lord of all the fourteen worlds, all the saints accept this
ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਕੀਏ ਸਭ ਯਾਹੀ ਕੇ ਬੇਦਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਨ ਜਾਨਿ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
dev adev kee sabh yaahee ke bedan te gun jaan bakhaaniyo |
The gods and others are all created by him and the Vedas also describe His attributes
ਬੀਰਨ ਬੀਰ ਬਡੋਈ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਭੂਪਨ ਭੂਪਨ ਤੇ ਖੁਨਸਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
beeran beer baddoee lakhiyo har bhoopan bhoopan te khunasaaniyo |
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਪਛਾਨਿਯੋ ॥੨੩੪੬॥
aaur jite ar tthaadte hute tin sayaam sahee kar kaal pachhaaniyo |2346|
Krishna who also gets enraged on the kings, was considered the mighty hero amongst the warriors and all the enemies recognised him, in reality, as the manifestation of Death.2346.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਠਾਢਿ ਤਹਾ ਕਰ ਬੀਚ ਸੁਦਰਸਨ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਲੀਏ ॥
sree brij naaeik tthaadt tahaa kar beech sudarasan chakr lee |
Krishna was standing there, holding his discus in his hand
ਬਹੁ ਰੋਸ ਠਨੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਆਨ ਕੋ ਆਨਤ ਹੈ ਨ ਹੀਏ ॥
bahu ros tthane at krodh bhariyo ar aan ko aanat hai na hee |
He was extremely angry and in that state of enragement, he did not remember any other enemy
ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਸਭਾ ਹੂ ਮੈ ਗਾਜਤ ਭਯੋ ਸਭ ਕਾਲਹਿ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਭੇਖ ਕੀਏ ॥
tih tthaur sabhaa hoo mai gaajat bhayo sabh kaaleh ko mano bhekh kee |
He, as manifestation of Death, was thundering in the Court
ਜਿਹ ਦੇਖਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੈ ਅਰਿ ਵਾ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਜੀਏ ॥੨੩੪੭॥
jih dekhat praan tajai ar vaa bahu sant nihaar ke roop jee |2347|
He was such a one, seeing whom, the enemies embrace death and the saints, on seeing him, were resuscitated.2347.

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਭਹੂ ਮਧਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
at sundar manamohan piaare sabhahoo madh niraare |1| rahaau |
O supremely beautiful Enticer, O Beloved, You are among all, and yet distinct from all. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਜੁ ਨ ਚਾਹਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਚਾਹਉ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਰੇ ॥
raaj na chaahau mukat na chaahau man preet charan kamalaare |
I do not seek power, and I do not seek liberation. My mind is in love with Your Lotus Feet.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਹੇਸ ਸਿਧ ਮੁਨਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
braham mahes sidh mun indraa mohi tthaakur hee darasaare |1|
Brahma, Shiva, the Siddhas, the silent sages and Indra - I seek only the Blessed Vision of my Lord and Master's Darshan. ||1||
ਦੀਨੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਇਓ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਸੰਤ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
deen duaarai aaeo tthaakur saran pario sant haare |
I have come, helpless, to Your Door, O Lord Master; I am exhausted - I seek the Sanctuary of the Saints.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲੇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਬਿਗਸਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੩॥੨੯॥
kahu naanak prabh mile manohar man seetal bigasaare |2|3|29|
Says Nanak, I have met my Enticing Lord God; my mind is cooled and soothed - it blossoms forth in joy. ||2||3||29||

Meditating on the Lord, His servant swims across to salvation.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen deaal bhe prabh apane bahurr janam nahee maario |1| rahaau |
When God becomes merciful to the meek, then one does not have to suffer reincarnation, only to die again. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਰਿਓ ॥
saadhasangam gun gaavah har ke ratan janam nahee haario |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and he does not lose the jewel of this human life.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਨੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥
prabh gun gaae bikhai ban tariaa kulah samooh udhaario |1|
Singing the Glories of God, he crosses over the ocean of poison, and saves all his generations as well. ||1||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸਿਆ ਰਿਦ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
charan kamal basiaa rid bheetar saas giraas uchaario |
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide within his heart, and with every breath and morsel of food, he chants the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੩੦॥
naanak ott gahee jagadeesur punah punah balihaario |2|4|30|
Nanak has grasped the Support of the Lord of the Universe; again and again, he is a sacrifice to Him. ||2||4||30||

Some wander around the forests, wearing religious robes, but the Fascinating Lord remains distant from them. ||1||Pause||
ਕਥਨ ਸੁਨਾਵਨ ਗੀਤ ਨੀਕੇ ਗਾਵਨ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਤੇ ਗਾਰ ॥੧॥
kathan sunaavan geet neeke gaavan man meh dharate gaar |1|
They talk, preach, and sing their lovely songs, but within their minds, the filth of their sins remains. ||1||
ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਨੇ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਚਾਰ ॥੨॥
at sundar bahu chatur siaane bidiaa rasanaa chaar |2|
They may be very beautiful, extremely clever, wise and educated, and they may speak very sweetly. ||2||
ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਬਿਬਰਜਿਤ ਏਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਖੰਡੇ ਧਾਰ ॥੩॥
maan moh mer ter bibarajit ehu maarag khandde dhaar |3|
To forsake pride, emotional attachment, and the sense of 'mine and yours', is the path of the double-edged sword. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਅਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਰ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੧॥
kahu naanak tin bhavajal tareeale prabh kirapaa sant sangaar |4|1|31|
Says Nanak, they alone swim across the terrifying world-ocean, who, by God's Grace, join the Society of the Saints. ||4||1||31||

I have seen the Lord to be on high; the Fascinating Lord is the highest of all.
ਆਨ ਨ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਕੋਊ ਲਾਗੈ ਢੂਢਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਮ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan na samasar koaoo laagai dtoodt rahe ham moochaa |1| rahaau |
No one else is equal to Him - I have made the most extensive search on this. ||1||Pause||
ਬਹੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਬਡੋ ਗਾਹਰੋ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਅਗਹੂਚਾ ॥
bahu beant at baddo gaaharo thaah nahee agahoochaa |
Utterly infinite, exceedingly great, deep and unfathomable - He is lofty, beyond reach.
ਤੋਲਿ ਨ ਤੁਲੀਐ ਮੋਲਿ ਨ ਮੁਲੀਐ ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨ ਰੂਚਾ ॥੧॥
tol na tuleeai mol na muleeai kat paaeeai man roochaa |1|
His weight cannot be weighed, His value cannot be estimated. How can the Enticer of the mind be obtained? ||1||
ਖੋਜ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਪੰਥਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਹੀ ਪਹੂਚਾ ॥
khoj asankhaa anik tapanthaa bin gur nahee pahoochaa |
Millions search for Him, on various paths, but without the Guru, none find Him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਸ ਭੂੰਚਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੨॥

Says Nanak, the Lord Master has become Merciful. Meeting the Holy Saint, I drink in the sublime essence. ||2||1||32||
