ਬਾਨਨ ਸੋ ਬਾਨਨ ਕਟੇ ਕੋਪ ਤਚੇ ਜੁਗ ਨੈਨ ॥

The king intercepted the arrows with arrows and looking furiously he said to Krihsna,1665

ਕਿਉ ਰੇ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਕਰੈ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਅਬੈ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਪੁਨਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਭਜੈਹੋ ॥
kiau re gumaan karai ghan sayaam abai ran te pun tohi bhajaiho |
“O Krishna! why are you egoistic? I shall cause you to run away from the battlefield just jow
ਕਾਹੇ ਕੌ ਆਨਿ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਸੁਨ ਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਕੇਸਨਿ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਗਹਿ ਲੈਹੋ ॥
kaahe kau aan ariyo sun re sir kesan te bahuro geh laiho |
Why are you resisting me? I shall again catch you by your hair
ਐ ਰੇ ਅਹੀਰ ਅਧੀਰ ਡਰੇ ਨਹਿ ਤੋ ਕਹਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਦੈਹੋ ॥
ai re aheer adheer ddare neh to keh jeevat jaan na daiho |
“O Gujjar! are you not feeling afraid? I shall not let you go alive and
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਰੰਚ ਕੁਬੇਰ ਜਲਾਧਿਪ ਕੋ ਸਸਿ ਕੋ ਸਿਵ ਕੋ ਹਤ ਕੈ ਹੋ ॥੧੬੬੬॥
eindr biranch kuber jalaadhip ko sas ko siv ko hat kai ho |1666|
Kill all including Indra, Brahma, Kuber, Varuna, Chandra, Shiva etc.”1666.
ਤਉ ਹੀ ਲਉ ਬੀਰ ਮਹੋਤ ਕਟ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੁਤੋ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਓ ॥

At that time, the mighty warrior Kata Singh, getting enraged in his mind and
ਕਰ ਮੈ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਧਾਇ ਚਲਿਓ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਓ ॥
kar mai karavaar lai dhaae chalio kab sayaam kahai nahee naik ddario |
Fearlessly taking his sword in his hand, fell upon the king, both of them waged a dreadful war,
ਅਸਿ ਜੁਧ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀਨ ਬਡੋ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਪਗ ਏਕ ਟਰਿਓ ॥
as judh duhoon nrip keen baddo na koaoo ran te pag ek ttario |
None of them retraced even one step
ਖੜਗੇਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕੀ ਤਾਨਿ ਦਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਰਿਓ ਗਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਓ ॥੧੬੬੭॥
kharrages kripaan kee taan dee bin praan kario gir bhoom pario |1667|
Ultimately Kharag Singh struck a blow with his sword and making him lifeless caused him to fall on the earth.1667.
ਦੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ਤਿਹ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਵਹ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨਨ ਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
sayaam bhanai dhan baanan lai tih bhoopat siau at judh machaayo |
Seeing him in this plight, Vichitra Singh who was standing there, came forward and waged a dreadful war with the king with his bow and arrows
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਖੜਗੇਸ ਬਲੀ ਧਨ ਤਾਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਰ ਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਕੋਪ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
sree kharrages balee dhan taan mahaa bar baan prakop chalaayo |
ਲਾਗਿ ਗਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਸਰ ਘੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਿਓ ਧਰਿ ਇਉ ਅਰਿ ਘਾਯੋ ॥੧੬੬੮॥
laag gayo tih ke ur mai sar ghoom girio dhar iau ar ghaayo |1668|
The mighty warrior Kharag Singh, pulled his bow in anger and discharged his arrow in such a way that it hit his heart and his head was chopped and fell down.1668.

ਧਨੁਖ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
dhanukh baan lai ran madh aayo |
Then Ajit Singh himself took his bow and arrows and reached the war-arena
ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
bhoopat ko tin bachan sunaayo |
ਤੋ ਬਧ ਹਿਤ ਸਿਵ ਮੁਹਿ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥੧੬੬੯॥
to badh hit siv muhi upajaayo |1669|
He said to the king, “Shiva has created me only for the purpose of killing you.”1669.
ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਯੌ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
ajeet singh yau bachan uchaario |
ਖੜਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਹਕਾਰਿਓ ॥

Ajit Singh saying like this, challenged Kharag Singh for fighting
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਏ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਨਹੀ ਡਰਿਓ ॥
nrip e bain sunat nahee ddario |
ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਪਗੁ ਆਗੈ ਧਰਿਓ ॥੧੬੭੦॥

The king was not frightened on listening this and that mighty one came forward.1670.
ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਛਾ ਹਿਤ ਧਾਏ ॥
ajeet singh rachhaa hit dhaae |
ਗ︀ਯਾਰਹ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਭਾਨ ਸਭ ਆਏ ॥

The eleven Rudras and Surya reached there fore the protection of Ajit Singh
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਮ ਬਸੁ ਰਿਸ ਭਰੇ ॥

ਬਰੁਨ ਕੁਬੇਰ ਘੇਰਿ ਸਭ ਖਰੇ ॥੧੬੭੧॥

Indra, Krishna, Yama, Varuna, Kuber etc., all had surrounded him.1671.

ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਵਾਦਿਕ ਸੂਰਜਿ ਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਹਾਥ ਉਚਾਯੋ ॥
sang sivaadik sooraj te ar maaran ko tih haath uchaayo |
When Ajit Singh waged a dreadful war with Kharag Singh, then all his accompanying mighty warriors like Shiva etc., held out their weapons in order to kill the enemy
ਬਾਨ ਚਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਬੈ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸਿ ਤਚਾਯੋ ॥
baan chale at hee ran mai nrip kaatt sabai man ros tachaayo |
The arrows were showered in the battlefield, but the king, in his fury, intercepted all the arrows
ਲੈ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਭਟ ਕੋ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਬਚਾਯੋ ॥੧੬੭੨॥
lai dhan baan mahaa balavaan hanayo bhatt ko kinahoon na bachaayo |1672|
That mighty warrior, taking his bow and arrows did not leave anyone and killed all the warriors.1672.

ਜਬ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥

ਸੁ ਭਟਨ ਮਨ ਭਟਕਿਓ ਡਰ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
su bhattan man bhattakio ddar paayo |
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਖੜਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਓ ॥
bahuro bhoopat kharrag sanbhaario |
ਚਕ੍ਰਤ ਤੇ ਸਬਹੂੰ ਬਲੁ ਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੬੭੩॥
chakrat te sabahoon bal haario |1673|
When Ajit Singh killed the warriors, then the other warriors became fearful in their minds, the king again held out his sword, all the people were wonder-struck by his warfare and lost their valour.1673.
ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥

ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਰੈ ਅਗਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਰਿਓ ॥
marai na jarai agan te jaario |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਛੂ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
taa te jatan kachhoo ab keejai |
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਭੂਪ ਇਹ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੧੬੭੪॥
yaa te maar bhoop ih leejai |1674|
Then Krishna and Brahma consulted each other and said, “This king will not even be killed by the blazing fire, therefore making some effort, he should be killed.”1674.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਹਿਓ ਸੁ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

ਮੋਹਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਮਨ ਤਬ ਬਲੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
mohit hvai man tab bal chheejai |
ਜਬ ਇਹ ਭੂਪ ਗਿਰਿਓ ਲਖਿ ਲਈਯੈ ॥
jab ih bhoop girio lakh leeyai |
ਤਬ ਇਹ ਜਮ ਕੋ ਧਾਮ ਪਠਈਯੈ ॥੧੬੭੫॥
tab ih jam ko dhaam pattheeyai |1675|
Brahma said, “When he will lose his power by being allured by the heavenly damsels and in this way, when we will see him declining, then he will be despatched to the abode of Yama.1675.
ਪੁਨਿ ਅਪਛ੍ਰਨ ਆਇਸ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
pun apachhran aaeis deejai |
ਜਾ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰੀਝੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
jaa so nrip reejhai soee keejai |
ਕਉਤਕਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਭੂਪ ਜਬ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
kautak her bhoop jab lai hai |
ਘਟਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ਬਲ ਮਨ ਦ੍ਰਵਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥੧੬੭੬॥
ghatt jai hai bal man drav jai hai |1676|
“Therefore command the heavenly damsels to do that with which the king feels pleased, when the king will be immersed in such a spectacle, his power will decline.”1676.

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਿਸੈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਭਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
kudarat disai kudarat suneeai kudarat bhau sukh saar |
By His Power we see, by His Power we hear; by His Power we have fear, and the essence of happiness.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
kudarat paataalee aakaasee kudarat sarab aakaar |
By His Power the nether worlds exist, and the Akaashic ethers; by His Power the entire creation exists.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
kudarat ved puraan katebaa kudarat sarab veechaar |
By His Power the Vedas and the Puraanas exist, and the Holy Scriptures of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions. By His Power all deliberations exist.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਪੈਨੑਣੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
kudarat khaanaa peenaa painan kudarat sarab piaar |
By His Power we eat, drink and dress; by His Power all love exists.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਤੀ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
kudarat jaatee jinasee rangee kudarat jeea jahaan |
- By His Power come the species of all kinds and colors; by His Power the living beings of the world exist.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਨੇਕੀਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਬਦੀਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
kudarat nekeea kudarat badeea kudarat maan abhimaan |
By His Power virtues exist, and by His Power vices exist. By His Power come honor and dishonor.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
kudarat paun paanee baisantar kudarat dharatee khaak |
By His Power wind, water and fire exist; by His Power earth and dust exist.
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਾਦਿਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪਾਕੀ ਨਾਈ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
sabh teree kudarat toon kaadir karataa paakee naaee paak |
Everything is in Your Power, Lord; You are the all-powerful Creator. Your Name is the Holiest of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਾਕੋ ਤਾਕੁ ॥੨॥
naanak hukamai andar vekhai varatai taako taak |2|
O Nanak, through the Command of His Will, He beholds and pervades the creation; He is absolutely unrivalled. ||2||

ਆਪੀਨੑੈ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਿ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਭਸਮੜਿ ਭਉਰੁ ਸਿਧਾਇਆ ॥
aapeenai bhog bhog kai hoe bhasamarr bhaur sidhaaeaa |
Enjoying his pleasures, one is reduced to a pile of ashes, and the soul passes away.
ਵਡਾ ਹੋਆ ਦੁਨੀਦਾਰੁ ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
vaddaa hoaa duneedaar gal sangal ghat chalaaeaa |
He may be great, but when he dies, the chain is thrown around his neck, and he is led away.
ਅਗੈ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥
agai karanee keerat vaacheeai beh lekhaa kar samajhaaeaa |
There, his good and bad deeds are added up; sitting there, his account is read.
ਥਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪਉਦੀਈ ਹੁਣਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਰੂਆਇਆ ॥
thaau na hovee paudeeee hun suneeai kiaa rooaaeaa |
He is whipped, but finds no place of rest, and no one hears his cries of pain.
ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
man andhai janam gavaaeaa |3|
The blind man has wasted his life away. ||3||

ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਵਹੈ ਸਦਵਾਉ ॥

In the Fear of God, the wind and breezes ever blow.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥
bhai vich chaleh lakh dareeaau |
In the Fear of God, thousands of rivers flow.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਢੈ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich agan kadtai vegaar |
In the Fear of God, fire is forced to labor.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਬੀ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich dharatee dabee bhaar |
In the Fear of God, the earth is crushed under its burden.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਇੰਦੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich ind firai sir bhaar |
In the Fear of God, the clouds move across the sky.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
bhai vich raajaa dharam duaar |
In the Fear of God, the Righteous Judge of Dharma stands at His Door.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਚੰਦੁ ॥
bhai vich sooraj bhai vich chand |
In the Fear of God, the sun shines, and in the Fear of God, the moon reflects.
ਕੋਹ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਚਲਤ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
koh karorree chalat na ant |
They travel millions of miles, endlessly.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਿਧ ਬੁਧ ਸੁਰ ਨਾਥ ॥
bhai vich sidh budh sur naath |
In the Fear of God, the Siddhas exist, as do the Buddhas, the demi-gods and Yogis.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਕਾਸ ॥
bhai vich aaddaane aakaas |
In the Fear of God, the Akaashic ethers are stretched across the sky.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰ ॥
bhai vich jodh mahaabal soor |
In the Fear of God, the warriors and the most powerful heroes exist.
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਪੂਰ ॥
bhai vich aaveh jaaveh poor |
In the Fear of God, multitudes come and go.
ਸਗਲਿਆ ਭਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
sagaliaa bhau likhiaa sir lekh |
God has inscribed the Inscription of His Fear upon the heads of all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥
naanak nirbhau nirankaar sach ek |1|
O Nanak, the Fearless Lord, the Formless Lord, the True Lord, is One. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਵਾਲ ॥
naanak nirbhau nirankaar hor kete raam ravaal |
O Nanak, the Lord is fearless and formless; myriads of others, like Rama, are mere dust before Him.
ਕੇਤੀਆ ਕੰਨੑ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
keteea kana kahaaneea kete bed beechaar |
There are so many stories of Krishna, so many who reflect over the Vedas.
ਕੇਤੇ ਨਚਹਿ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਗਿੜਿ ਮੁੜਿ ਪੂਰਹਿ ਤਾਲ ॥
kete nacheh mangate girr murr pooreh taal |
So many beggars dance, spinning around to the beat.
ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਬਾਜਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਇ ਕਢਹਿ ਬਾਜਾਰ ॥
baajaaree baajaar meh aae kadteh baajaar |
The magicians perform their magic in the market place, creating a false illusion.
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਣੀਆ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਆਲ ਪਤਾਲ ॥
gaaveh raaje raaneea boleh aal pataal |
They sing as kings and queens, and speak of this and that.
ਲਖ ਟਕਿਆ ਕੇ ਮੁੰਦੜੇ ਲਖ ਟਕਿਆ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ॥
lakh ttakiaa ke mundarre lakh ttakiaa ke haar |
They wear earrings, and necklaces worth thousands of dollars.
ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥
jit tan paaeeeh naanakaa se tan hoveh chhaar |
Those bodies on which they are worn, O Nanak, those bodies turn to ashes.
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਗਲੀਈ ਢੂਢੀਐ ਕਥਨਾ ਕਰੜਾ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
giaan na galeeee dtoodteeai kathanaa kararraa saar |
Wisdom cannot be found through mere words. To explain it is as hard as iron.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰ ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
karam milai taa paaeeai hor hikamat hukam khuaar |2|
When the Lord bestows His Grace, then alone it is received; other tricks and orders are useless. ||2||
