The mighty warriors like Anag Singh, Achal Singh, Amit Singh, Amar Singh and Anagh Singh were sitting with the king Jarasandh.1136.

ਦੇਖਿ ਤਿਨੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੰਧਿ ਜਰਾ ਹਥੀਆਰ ਧਰੇ ਲਖਿ ਬੀਰ ਪਚਾਰੇ ॥
dekh tinai nrip sandh jaraa hatheeaar dhare lakh beer pachaare |
ਪੇਖਹੁ ਆਜ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪੰਚ ਬਲੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥
pekhahu aaj ayodhan mai nrip panch balee jadubeer sanghaare |
Seeing them with him, the king Jarasandh, looking at the weapons and these warriors said, “See, today in the battlefield, Krishna has killed five mighty kings
ਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਇ ਭਿਰੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਤਜਿ ਸੰਕ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਬਜਾਇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥
taa sang jaae bhiro tum hoon taj sank nisank bajaae nagaare |
“Now you may go and fight with him, beating your trumpets, without fear
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਰਨ ਓਰਿ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੩੭॥
yau sun kai prabh kee bateeyaa at kop bhare ran or padhaare |1137|
” Hearing these words of their king all marched towards the battlefield in great rage.1137
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਤਿਨੋ ਰਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਜਮ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
aavat hee jadubeer tino ran bhoom bikhai jam roop nihaariyo |
When they came, Krishna saw them in the battlefield, wandering as the manifestation of Yama
ਪਾਨਿ ਗਹੇ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਸੋਊ ਰਨ ਬੀਚ ਤਿਨੋ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਹਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
paan gahe dhan baan soaoo ran beech tino balidev hakaariyo |
They had caught hold of their bows and arrows in their hands and were challenging Balram
ਖਗ ਕਸੇ ਕਟਿ ਮੈ ਅੰਗ ਕੌਚ ਲੀਏ ਬਰਛਾ ਅਣਗੇਸ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
khag kase katt mai ang kauach lee barachhaa anages pukaariyo |
They had spears in their hands and armours were tightened on there limbs
ਆਇ ਭਿਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਹਮ ਸਿਉ ਅਬ ਠਾਢੋ ਕਹਾ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੩੮॥
aae bhiro har joo ham siau ab tthaadto kahaa ih bhaat uchaariyo |1138|
Anag Singh, taking his lance in his hand, said loudly, “O Krishna! why are you standing now?, come and have a fight with us.”1138.
ਦੇਖਿ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਪੰਚ ਬੀਰ ਹਕਾਰੇ ॥
dekh tabai tin ko har joo tab hee ran mai panch beer hakaare |
Krishna seeing those five warriors challenged them
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੁ ਸੈਨ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਉਤ ਤੇਊ ਚਲੇ ਸੁ ਬਜਾਇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥
sayaam su sain chaliyo it te ut teaoo chale su bajaae nagaare |
From this side, Krishna moved with his arms and from the other side they also moved beating their trumpets
ਪਟਸਿ ਲੋਹ ਹਥੀ ਪਰਸੇ ਅਗਨਾਯੁਧ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
pattas loh hathee parase aganaayudh lai kar kop prahaare |
Taking their steel-arms and fire arms, they began to strike blows in great fury
ਜੂਝਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਇਤ ਕੇ ਉਤ ਕੇ ਭਟ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਮਤਵਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੩੯॥
joojh gire it ke ut ke bhatt bhoom gire su mano matavaare |1139|
The warriors from both the sides fought fiercely and getting intoxicated, they began to fall on the ground.1139.
ਜੁਧ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਬਡੋ ਚਢਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਦੇਵ ਬਿਵਾਨਨਿ ਆਏ ॥

A dreadful war was fought
ਕਉਤਕ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਰਨ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਮਨ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਾਏ ॥
kautak dekhan kau ran ko kab sayaam kahai man mod badtaae |
The gods saw it, sitting in their air-vehicles, their minds were excited to see the sport of war
ਲਾਗਤ ਸਾਗਨ ਕੇ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਗਿਰ ਅਸਵਨ ਤੇ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਆਏ ॥
laagat saagan ke bhatt yau gir asavan te dharanee par aae |
On being struck by lances, the warriors fell down from their horses and writhed on the earth
ਸੋ ਫਿਰ ਕੈ ਉਠਿ ਜੁਧ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਕਿੰਨ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਗਾਏ ॥੧੧੪੦॥
so fir kai utth judh karai tih ke gun kin gandhrab gaae |1140|
KABIT, the fallen warriors, getting up began to fight again and the Gandharavas and Kinnars sang their praises.1140.

ਕੇਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਭਾਜੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਗਾਜੇ ਪੁਨਿ ਆਇ ਆਇ ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਸੋ ਜੁਧ ਵੇ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
kete beer bhaaje kete gaaje pun aae aae dhaae dhaae har joo so judh ve karat hai |
Many warriors began to run away, many of them roared, many others ran again and again to fight with Krishna
ਕੇਤੇ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਭਿਰੇ ਗਜ ਮਤਨ ਸੋ ਲਰੇ ਤੇਤੋ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਛਿਤਿ ਮੈ ਪਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
kete bhoom gire kete bhire gaj matan so lare teto mritak hvai kai chhit mai parat hai |
Many fell down on the earth, many died fighting with the intoxicated elephants and many lay dead on the earth
ਅਉਰ ਦਉਰ ਪਰੇ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਉਚਰੇ ਹਥਿਯਾਰਨ ਉਘਰੇ ਪਗੁ ਏਕ ਨ ਟਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
aaur daur pare maar maar hee uchare hathiyaaran ughare pag ek na ttarat hai |
On the death of the warriors, many others, taking up their weapons ran and shouting “Kill, Kill” they are taking up their weapons and do not retrace even one step
ਸ੍ਰਉਣਤ ਉਦਧਿ ਲੋਹ ਆਂਚ ਬੜਵਾਨਲ ਸੀ ਪਉਨ ਬਾਨ ਚਲੈ ਬੀਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਜਿਉ ਜਰਤ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੪੧॥
sraunat udadh loh aanch barravaanal see paun baan chalai beer trin jiau jarat hai |1141|
In the sea of blood the fire is blazing and the warriors discharging swift-moving arrows li

ਅਣਗੇਸ ਬਲੀ ਤਬ ਕੋਪਿ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਮਨਿ ਜਾਨ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਰ ਮਚੀ ਜਬ ॥

ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਪੈ ਚਢਿ ਕੈ ਕਢਿ ਕੈ ਕਸਿ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਤਨਾਇ ਲਈ ਤਬ ॥
sayandan pai chadt kai kadt kai kas baan kamaan tanaae lee tab |
Anag Sing, considering it a decisive war, was filled with anger and mounting on his chariot, he took out his sword and also pulled up his bow
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਤਨਾ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਬੀਰ ਹਨੇ ਸਬ ॥
sree har kee pritanaa hoo ke aoopar aae pariyo tin beer hane sab |
He attacked the army of Krishna and destroyed the heroic fighters
ਭਾਜਿ ਗਏ ਤਮ ਸੇ ਅਰਿ ਯੌ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਰਨਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਛਬਿ ॥੧੧੪੨॥
bhaaj ge tam se ar yau nrip paavat bhayo ran sooraj kee chhab |1142|
Just as the darkness moves away swiftly before the sun, similarly before the king Anag Singh, the enemy’s army sped away.1142.
ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਸੁ ਆਗੇ ਭਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਅਸਿ ਢਾਰ ਬਡੀ ਧਰ ਕੈ ॥
prer turang su aage bhayo kar lai as dtaar baddee dhar kai |
ਕਛੁ ਜਾਦਵ ਸੋ ਤਿਨਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਨ ਟਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਪਗ ਦੁਇ ਡਰ ਕੈ ॥
kachh jaadav so tin judh kariyo na ttariyo tin so pag due ddar kai |
Driving forward his horse and taking up his sword and shield he moved forward and without retracing his steps, he fought with a cluster of some Yadavas
ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਇ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਬਹੁ ਬੀਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
jadubeer ke saamuhe aae ariyo bahu beeran praan bidaa kar kai |
Killing many heroic fighters, he came and stood firmly in front of Krishna and said, “I have vowed that I shall not return to my home
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਚਲੋ ਇਹ ਮੋ ਪ੍ਰਨ ਹੈ ਕਿਧੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜਉ ਕਿ ਤ੍ਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੧੪੩॥
grihu ko na chalo ih mo pran hai kidho praan tjau ki tvai mar kai |1143|
Either I shall breathe my last or I shall kill you.”1143.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਅਸਿ ਕੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਚਮੂ ਕਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਹਕਾਰਾ ॥
yau keh kai as ko geh kai jadubeer chamoo kahu jaae hakaaraa |
Saying this, taking his sword in his hand, he challenged the army of Krishna
ਜਾਦਵ ਸੈਨ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
jaadav sain hoon te nikasiyo ran sundar naam saroop apaaraa |
The name of Krishna was hailed in the army of the Yadavas,
ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਭਯੋ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮੁੰਡ ਕਟਿਯੋ ਨ ਲਗੀ ਕਛੁ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
prer turang bhayo samuhe nrip mundd kattiyo na lagee kachh baaraa |
But Anag Singh, causing his horse to run came in front of the King of Yadava army
ਯੌ ਧਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਛੂਟ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਨਭਿ ਤੇ ਟੂਟ ਪਰੋ ਛਿਤ ਤਾਰਾ ॥੧੧੪੪॥
yau dhar te sir chhoott pariyo nabh te ttoott paro chhit taaraa |1144|
This king destroyed in an instant all the warriors of the army, the heads began to fall on the ground like the stars falling from the sky.1144.
ਪੁਨਿ ਦਉਰਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਜਦੁਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਤਨਾ ਪਰ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਕੀਨ ਰੁਸਾ ॥
pun daur pariyo jaduvee pritanaa par sayaam kahai at keen rusaa |
Getting very angry, he fell upon the Yadava army again
ਉਤ ਤੇ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਫਿਰੇ ਇਕਠੇ ਅਰਿਰਾਇ ਬਢਾਇ ਕੈ ਚਿਤ ਗੁਸਾ ॥
aut te jadubeer fire ikatthe ariraae badtaae kai chit gusaa |
On the other side Krishna also moved in his army, which increased the anger in the mind of the enemy
ਅਗਨਸਤ੍ਰ ਛੁਟਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਜਰਗੇ ਮਨੋ ਪਾਵਕ ਬੀਚ ਤੁਸਾ ॥
aganasatr chhuttiyo nrip ke kar te jarage mano paavak beech tusaa |
The king Anag Singh shot his firearm, by which the soldiers burnt like the straw in fire
ਕਟਿ ਅੰਗ ਪਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਧਨ ਕੇ ਮਨੋ ਜਗ ਕੇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਧਿ ਕੁਸਾ ॥੧੧੪੫॥
katt ang pare bahu jodhan ke mano jag ke manddal madh kusaa |1145|
The limbs of the warriors being chopped fell like the grass burning in the sacrificial altar.1145.
ਕਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਖੈਚ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥
kaan pramaan lau khaich kamaan su beer nihaar kai baan chalaavai |
ਜੋ ਇਨਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਨ ਪਰੇ ਸਰ ਸੋ ਅਧ ਬੀਚ ਤੇ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਵੈ ॥
jo in aoopar aan pare sar so adh beech te kaatt giraavai |
Pulling their bows upto the ears, the warriors are discharging the arrows and the arrow which collides with these arrows midway, it is chopped and thrown down
ਲੋਹ ਹਥੀ ਪਰਸੇ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਕੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
loh hathee parase kar lai brijanaath kee dehi prahaar lagaavai |
ਜੁਧ ਸਮੈ ਥਕਿ ਕੈ ਜਕਿ ਕੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਉ ਪਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੧੧੪੬॥
judh samai thak kai jak kai jadubeer kau paar sanbhaar na aavai |1146|
Holding their swords, the enemies are striking the blows on the body of Krishna, but being tired, they could not obstruct the blows of Krishna.1146.
ਜੋ ਇਹ ਉਪਰ ਆਇ ਪਰੇ ਭਟ ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਇਨ ਹੂੰ ਸੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
jo ih upar aae pare bhatt kop bhare in hoon su nivaare |
The warriors who attacked Krishna, they were chopped into bits by him
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਰਥੀ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan gadaa geh maar rathee birathee kar ddaare |
Taking his bow and arrows, sword and mace in his hands, he deprived the charioteers of their chariots
ਘਾਇਲ ਕੋਟਿ ਚਲੇ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਜੂਝਿ ਪਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਡੀਲ ਡਰਾਰੇ ॥
ghaaeil kott chale taj kai ran joojh pare bahu ddeel ddaraare |
Many warriors being wounded have started going away from the arena of war
ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਅਹਿਰਾਜ ਪਰੇ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੧੧੪੭॥
yau upajee upamaa su mano ahiraaj pare khagaraaj ke maare |1147|
And many others fighting heroically in the field, the dead warriors appear like the dead snake-kings lying down, having been killed by Garuda the king of birds.1147.
ਜੁਧ ਕੀਯੋ ਜਦੁਬੀਰਨ ਸੋ ਉਹ ਬੀਰ ਜਬੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਸਿ ਸਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
judh keeyo jadubeeran so uh beer jabai kar mai as saajiyo |
Taking his sword in his hand, that warrior engaged the Yadavas in battle
ਮਾਰਿ ਚਮੂੰ ਸੁ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਦਈ ਕਬਿ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਬਲੁ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਗਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
maar chamoon su bidaar dee kab raam kahai bal so nrip gaajiyo |
After killing the four divisions of the army, the poet Ram says that the king began to thunder with strength
ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਬੀਰ ਡਰੇ ਸਬਹੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਕਉ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਘਨ ਸਾਵਨ ਲਾਜਿਯੋ ॥
so sun beer ddare sabahee dhun kau sun kai ghan saavan laajiyo |
Hearing him roaring, the clouds felt shy and frightened
ਛਾਜਤ ਯੌ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਗਨ ਮੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਕੇ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਮਨੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੪੮॥
chhaajat yau ar ke gan mai mrig ke ban mai mano singh biraajiyo |1148|
He was looking splendid amongst the enemies like lion among the deer.1148.
ਬਹੁਰ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਦਈ ਧੁਜਨੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਰੇ ॥
bahur karavaar sanbhaar bidaar dee dhujanee nrip kott mare |
Striking the blows again, the forces were killed and many kings were killed
ਅਸਵਾਰ ਹਜਾਰ ਪਚਾਸ ਹਨੇ ਰਥ ਕਾਟਿ ਰਥੀ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ॥
asavaar hajaar pachaas hane rath kaatt rathee birathee su kare |
Fifty thousand soldiers were killed and the Charioteers were deprived of their chariots and chopped
ਕਹੂੰ ਬਾਜ ਗਿਰੈ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾਜ ਜਰੇ ਗਜਰਾਰ ਘਿਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਪਰੇ ॥
kahoon baaj girai kahoon taaj jare gajaraar ghire kahoon raaj pare |
Somewhere the horses, somewhere the elephants and somewhere the kings have fallen down
ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਰਥ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਨੋ ਨਟੂਆ ਬਹੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਰੇ ॥੧੧੪੯॥
thir naeh rahai nrip ko rath bhoom mano nattooaa bahu nrit kare |1149|
The chariot of the king Anag Singh is not stable in the battlefield and it is running like a dancing actor.1149.
ਏਕ ਅਜਾਇਬ ਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਭਟ ਤਾ ਸੰਗ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਆਨ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
ek ajaaeib khaa har ko bhatt taa sang so nrip aan ariyo hai |
ਭਾਜਤ ਨਾਹਿ ਹਠੀ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਣਗੇਸ ਬਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
bhaajat naeh hatthee ran te anages balee at kop bhariyo hai |
There was a warrior named Ajaib Khan in the army of Krishna, he came and confronted the king Anag Singh, he did not retrace his steps from the battlefield, and greatly infuriated,
ਲੈ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਕਟਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਸੀਸ ਕਬੰਧ ਲਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
lai karavaar prahaar keeyo kattiyo tih sees kabandh lariyo hai |
He struck a blow with his sword on Ajaib Khan
ਫੇਰਿ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਮਾਨੋ ਆਂਧੀ ਬਹੀ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਦੀਰਘ ਭੂ ਪਰਿ ਟੂਟ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੫੦॥
fer giriyo maano aandhee bahee drum deeragh bhoo par ttoott pariyo hai |1150|
His head was chopped, but his headless trunk began to fight, then he fell down on the ground like a huge tree broken and fallen by raging storm.1150.
ਦੇਖਿ ਅਜਾਇਬ ਖਾਨ ਦਸਾ ਤਬ ਗੈਰਤ ਖਾ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
dekh ajaaeib khaan dasaa tab gairat khaa man ros bhariyo |
Seeing such a condition of Ajaib Khan, the mind of Ghairat Khan was filled with rage
ਸੁ ਧਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ︀ਯੰਦਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਬੀਰ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
su dhavaae kai sayandan jaae pariyo ar beer hoon te nahee naik ddariyo |
He caused his chariot to be driven and fearlessly fell upon the enemy
ਅਸਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਧਰੇ ਰਨ ਬੀਚ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਤਹ ਆਪਸ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
as paan dhare ran beech duhoon teh aapas mai bahu judh kariyo |
Both the mighty warriors fought a dreadful battle taking swords in their hands
ਮਨਿ ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਗਜ ਸੋ ਮਦ ਕੋ ਗਜ ਆਨਿ ਅਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੫੧॥
man yau upajee upamaa ban mai gaj so mad ko gaj aan ariyo |1151|
They looked like tow elephants fighting with each other in the forest.1151.
ਗੈਰਤ ਖਾ ਬਰਛੀ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਬਰ ਸੋ ਅਰਿ ਬੀਰ ਕੀ ਓਰਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
gairat khaa barachhee geh kai bar so ar beer kee or chalaaee |
ਆਵਤ ਬਿਦੁਲਤਾ ਸਮ ਦੇਖ ਕੈ ਕਾਟਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਈ ॥
aavat bidulataa sam dekh kai kaatt kripaan so bhoom giraaee |
Holding his lance in his hand, Ghairat Khan threw it on the enemy which was intercepted and thrown on the ground by Anag Singh with his sword, moving like lightning
ਸੋ ਨ ਲਗੀ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਬਰਛੀ ਗਹਿ ਦੂਸਰੀ ਅਉਰ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
so na lagee ris kai rip ko barachhee geh doosaree aaur chalaaee |
ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਮਾਨੋ ਛੂਟਿ ਚਲੀ ਨਭ ਤੇ ਜੁ ਹਵਾਈ ॥੧੧੫੨॥
yau upamaa upajee jeey mai maano chhoott chalee nabh te ju havaaee |1152|
That lance did not strike the enemy, but he discharged a second lance like an aerial bomb shot in the sky.1152.
ਦੂਸਰੀ ਦੇਖ ਕੈ ਸਾਗ ਬਲੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਆਵਤ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਈ ॥
doosaree dekh kai saag balee nrip aavat kaatt kai bhoom giraaee |
ਲੈ ਬਰਛੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਗੈਰਤ ਖਾ ਪਰ ਕੋਪਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
lai barachhee apune kar mai nrip gairat khaa par kop chalaaee |
The second lance was also intercepted and thrown on the ground by the king and threw his lance in great fury on Ghairat Khan,
ਲਾਗ ਗਈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਬਹਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਠਹਰਾਈ ॥
laag gee tih ke mukh mai beh sraun chaliyo upamaa tthaharaaee |
Which hit him on his face
ਕੋਪ ਕੀ ਆਗ ਮਹਾ ਬਢਿ ਕੈ ਡਢ ਕੈ ਹੀਯ ਕਉ ਮਨੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਈ ॥੧੧੫੩॥
kop kee aag mahaa badt kai ddadt kai heey kau mano baahar aaee |1153|
The blood gushed out like the fire of anger moving out of the heart.1153.

ਲੋਭਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਦਸ ਹੂ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਤ ਆਸਾ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਧਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lobh grasio das hoo dis dhaavat aasaa laagio dhan kee |1| rahaau |
Engrossed in greed, running around in the ten directions, you hold to your hopes of wealth. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਤ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਜਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥
sukh kai het bahut dukh paavat sev karat jan jan kee |
For the sake of pleasure, you suffer such great pain, and you have to serve each and every person.
ਦੁਆਰਹਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਜਿਉ ਡੋਲਤ ਨਹ ਸੁਧ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥
duaareh duaar suaan jiau ddolat neh sudh raam bhajan kee |1|
You wander from door to door like a dog, unconscious of the Lord's meditation. ||1||
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਖੋਵਤ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਨ ਕੀ ॥
maanas janam akaarath khovat laaj na lok hasan kee |
You lose this human life in vain, and You are not even ashamed when others laugh at you.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਤ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਤਨ ਕੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੩੩॥
naanak har jas kiau nahee gaavat kumat binaasai tan kee |2|1|233|
O Nanak, why not sing the Lord's Praises, so that you may be rid of the body's evil disposition? ||2||1||233||

He descends the treacherous precipice, to bathe in the cleansing pool;
ਬਕੈ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
bakai na bolai har gun gaavai |
without speaking or saying anything, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਜਲੁ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
jal aakaasee sun samaavai |
Like water vapor in the sky, he remains absorbed in the Lord.
ਰਸੁ ਸਤੁ ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
ras sat jhol mahaa ras paavai |1|
He churns the true pleasures to obtain the supreme nectar. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਅਭ ਮੋਰੇ ॥

Listen to such spiritual wisdom, O my mind.
ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਉਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharipur dhaar rahiaa sabh tthaure |1| rahaau |
The Lord is totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1||Pause||
ਸਚੁ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥
sach brat nem na kaal santaavai |
One who makes Truthfulness his fast and religious vows, does not suffer the pain of death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥
satigur sabad karodh jalaavai |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he burns away his anger.
ਗਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
gagan nivaas samaadh lagaavai |
He dwells in the Tenth Gate, immersed in the Samaadhi of deep meditation.
ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
paaras paras param pad paavai |2|
Touching the philosopher's stone, he obtains the supreme status. ||2||
ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ॥
sach man kaaran tat bilovai |
For the benefit of the mind, churn the true essence of reality;
ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
subhar saravar mail na dhovai |
bathing in the over-flowing tank of nectar, filth is washed away.
ਜੈ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
jai siau raataa taiso hovai |
We become like the One with whom we are imbued.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
aape karataa kare su hovai |3|
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
gur hiv seetal agan bujhaavai |
The Guru is cool and soothing like ice; He puts out the fire of the mind.
ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥
sevaa surat bibhoot charraavai |
Smear your body with the ashes of dedicated service,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
darasan aap sehaj ghar aavai |
and live in the home of peace - make this your religious order.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
niramal baanee naad vajaavai |4|
Let the Immaculate Bani of the Word be your playing of the flute. ||4||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
antar giaan mahaa ras saaraa |
Spiritual wisdom within is the supreme, sublime nectar.
ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
teerath majan gur veechaaraa |
Contemplation of the Guru is one's bathing at holy places of pilgrimage.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥
antar poojaa thaan muraaraa |
Worship and adoration within is the Lord's dwelling.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
jotee jot milaavanahaaraa |5|
He is the One who blends one's light with the Divine Light. ||5||
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿਆ ਮਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
ras rasiaa mat ekai bhaae |
He delights in the delightful wisdom of loving the One Lord.
ਤਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
takhat nivaasee panch samaae |
He is one of the self-elect - he merges with the Lord, who occupies the throne.
ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
kaar kamaaee khasam rajaae |
He performs his works in obedience to the Will of his Lord and Master.
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥
avigat naath na lakhiaa jaae |6|
The Unknowable Lord cannot be understood. ||6||
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
jal meh upajai jal te door |
The lotus originates in the water, and yet it remains distinct from the water.
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
jal meh jot rahiaa bharapoor |
Just so, the Divine Light pervades and permeates the water of the world.
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
kis nerrai kis aakhaa door |
Who is near, and who is far away?
ਨਿਧਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੭॥
nidh gun gaavaa dekh hadoor |7|
I sing the Glories of the Lord, the treasure of virtue; I behold Him ever-present. ||7||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
antar baahar avar na koe |
Inwardly and outwardly, there is none other than Him.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so fun hoe |
Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass.
ਸੁਣਿ ਭਰਥਰਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
sun bharathar naanak kahai beechaar |
Listen, O Bharthari Yogi - Nanak speaks after deliberation;
