ਜੂਝ ਪਰੈ ਜੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਇ ॥
joojh parai je nrip balee har siau judh machaae |
ਤਿਨ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਬ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੧੦੮੭॥
tin beeran ke naam sab so kab kehat sunaae |1087|
The great warriors who fought with Krishna and fell in the field, the poet now enumerates their names,1087

The heroic warriors like Narsingh, Gaj Singh, Dhan Singh moved forward
ਹਰੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਡੋ ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਰੇਸ ਤਹਾ ਕੋ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਦਿਜ ਕੋ ਧਨ ਦੈ ॥
haree singh baddo ran singh nares tahaa ko chaliyo dij ko dhan dai |
The kings like Hari Singh, Ran Singh etc. also moved after giving alms to the Brahmins
ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬਹੁਬੀਰ ਚਮੂੰ ਸੁ ਘਨੀ ਹਨਿ ਕੈ ॥
jadubeer so jaae kai judh kariyo bahubeer chamoon su ghanee han kai |
ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਬਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਨੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਮਰੀ ਰਨਿ ਜੈ ॥੧੦੮੮॥
har aoopar baan anek hane ih bhaat kahiyo hamaree ran jai |1088|
The large army of four divisions moved and fought with Krishna and hailing themselves, they discharged many arrows on Krishna.1088.
ਹੋਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਇਤੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਯੌ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਵਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

On this side all the kings gathered together and began to discharge arrows upon Krishna
ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਹੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਇਕ ਤੇ ਪਗ ਦੁਇ ਕਰਿ ਆਗੇ ॥
kop kai judh kariyo tin hoon brijanaaeik te pag due kar aage |
Moving two steps forward, they in fury, fought with Krishna
ਜੀਵ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਉ ਤ︀ਯਾਗਿ ਤਬੈ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ ॥
jeev kee aas kau tayaag tabai sab hee ras rudr bikhai anuraage |
They were all absorbed in war, leaving the hope of their survival
ਚੀਰ ਧਰੇ ਸਿਤ ਆਏ ਹੁਤੇ ਛਿਨ ਬੀਚ ਭਏ ਸਭ ਆਰੁਨ ਬਾਗੇ ॥੧੦੮੯॥
cheer dhare sit aae hute chhin beech bhe sabh aarun baage |1089|
The white garments worn by the warriors became red in an instant.1089.
ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਨ ਬੀਰਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਥ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਕਰਨੈ ਸੇ ॥
judh kariyo tin beeran sayaam so paarath jayo ris kai karanai se |
The warriors greatly infuriated, waged such a war with Krishna, which was waged earlier by Arjuna with Karana
ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਬਹੁ ਸੈਨ ਹਨੀ ਬਲਿਭਦ੍ਰ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਭੂ ਮਧਿ ਐਸੇ ॥
kop bhariyo bahu sain hanee balibhadr ariyo ran bhoo madh aise |
Balram also in anger and standing firmly in the field destroyed a great part of the army
ਬੀਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਗਨਿ ਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਘੇਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਬਲਦੇਵਹਿ ਕੈਸੇ ॥
beer firai kar saagan lai tih gher layo baladeveh kaise |
ਜੋਰਿ ਸੋ ਸਾਕਰਿ ਤੋਰਿ ਘਿਰਿਯੋ ਮਦ ਮਤ ਕਰੀ ਗਢਦਾਰਨ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੧੦੯੦॥
jor so saakar tor ghiriyo mad mat karee gadtadaaran jaise |1090|
Holding their lances and swinging the warriors encircled Balram like the intoxicated elephant freeing himself from the steel-chains with his strength, but was entrapped in a deep pit.1090.
ਰਨਭੂਮਿ ਮੈ ਜੁਧ ਭਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਮਰੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਆਏ ਹੈ ਜੋਊ ॥
ranabhoom mai judh bhayo at hee tatakaal mare rip aae hai joaoo |
There was a fierce fighting in the battlefield and the king who came there, was instantly killed
ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਘਨਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਘਨੋ ਉਤ ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਭਟ ਓਊ ॥
judh kariyo ghan sayaam ghano ut kop bhare man mai bhatt oaoo |
On this side Krishna waged a dreadful war and on the other side, the warriors of the enemy were filled with great rage
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਜੂ ਬਾਨ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਜਿਹ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
sree narasingh joo baan hanayo har ko jih kee sam aaur na koaoo |
ਯੌ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਜਿਵ ਸੋਵਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਗਾਵਤ ਕੋਊ ॥੧੦੯੧॥
yau upamaa upajee jeey mai jiv sovat singh jagaavat koaoo |1091|
Narsingh discharged his arrow towards Krishna in such a way as if someone was desirous of awaking the sleeping lion.1091.
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਗਡ ਕੈ ਸੋਊ ਪੰਖਨ ਲਉ ਸੁ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sayaam ke baan lagiyo ur mai gadd kai soaoo pankhan lau su gayo hai |
An arrow struck the chest of Krishna and penetrated upto the feathers
ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਸਰ ਅੰਗ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sraun ke sang bhariyo sar ang bilok tabai har kop bhayo hai |
The arrow was filled with blood and seeing his blood flowing out from his limbs, Krishna was highly enraged
ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਉਚ ਮਹਾ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
taa chhab ko jas uch mahaa kab ne keh kai ih bhaat dayo hai |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਤਛਕ ਕੋ ਲਰਿਕਾ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਗਹਿ ਨੀਲ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੯੨॥
maanahu tachhak ko larikaa khagaraaj lakhiyo geh neel layo hai |1092|
This spectacle appears like Garuda, the king of birds, swallowing the son of the great serpent Takshak.1092.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਨਾਥ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਲੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਰੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਬੀਚ ਕਸਾ ॥
sree brijanaath saraasan lai ris kai sar raajan beech kasaa |
In great fury, Krishna tightened the arrow on the string of the bow and discharged it towards Gaj Singh
ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋ ਬਾਨ ਅਚਾਨ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਗਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਜਨ ਸਾਪ ਡਸਾ ॥
gaj singh ko baan achaan hanayo gir bhoom pariyo jan saap ddasaa |
Gaj Singh fell down on the earth as if a snake had stung him
ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੁ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਸੋਊ ਭਾਜ ਗਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਪੇਖਿ ਦਸਾ ॥
har singh ju tthaadto huto tih pai soaoo bhaaj gayo tih pekh dasaa |
ਮਨੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਤ ਹੀ ਨ ਟਿਕਿਯੋ ਜੁ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸਟਕਾਇ ਸਸਾ ॥੧੦੯੩॥
mano singh ko roop nihaarat hee na ttikiyo ju chaliyo sattakaae sasaa |1093|
Hari Singh who was standing near him, seeing his plight, fled away like a hare seeing the figure of a lion.1093.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਤਜਿ ਖੇਤ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
har singh jabai taj khet chaliyo ran singh utthiyo pun kop bhariyo |
When Hari Singh ran away from the battlefield, then Ran Singh arose again in great ire
ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਲਯੋ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਰਨਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
dhan baan sanbhaar kai paan layo bahuro bal ko ran judh kariyo |
He held up his bow and arrows using his strength and began to fight
ਉਨ ਹੂੰ ਪੁਨਿ ਬੀਚ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਇਉ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥
aun hoon pun beech ayodhan ke har ko lalakaar kai iau uchariyo |
ਅਬ ਜਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਹੁ ਘਰੀ ਹਮਰੇ ਅਸਿ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਹਾਥ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੯੪॥
ab jaat kahaa thir hohu gharee hamare as kaal ke haath pariyo |1094|
He challenged Krishna in the field saying “now stop for a while, where are you going? You have fallen in the hands of death.”1094.
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਮੁਸਕਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥
eih bhaat kahiyo ran singh jabai har singh tabai sun kai musakaanrayo |
When Ran Singh said these words, then Hari Singh smiled
ਆਇ ਅਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧਨੁ ਲੈ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਛਿਤ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਗ ਪਰਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥
aae ariyo har siau dhan lai ran kee chhit te nahee paig paraanrayo |
He also came forward in order to fight with Krishna and did not recede
ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਲਛਨ ਤੇ ਪਹਚਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥
kop kai baat kahee jadubeer so mai ih lachhan te pahachaanayo |
ਆਇ ਕੈ ਜੁਧ ਕੀਓ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਹਾਥ ਬਿਕਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥੧੦੯੫॥
aae kai judh keeo ham so su bhalee bidh kaal ke haath bikaanrayo |1095|
He addressed Krishna in anger, “He, who fights with me, consider him fallen in the hands of death.”1095.
ਯੌ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਬਤੀਆ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਧਨੁ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਮੁਸਕ੍ਰਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
yau sun kai bateea tih kee har joo dhan lai kar mai musakrayo hai |
Hearing his words, Krishna took his bow in his hand
ਦੀਰਘੁ ਗਾਤ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸਰ ਛਾਡਿ ਦਯੋ ਅਰ ਸੀਸ ਤਕ੍ਰਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
deeragh gaat lakhiyo tab hee sar chhaadd dayo ar sees takrayo hai |
Seeing his large body and aiming his arrow on his head, he discharged it
ਬਾਨ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਸਿਰ ਟੂਟਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਧਰ ਠਾਢੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
baan lagiyo har singh tabai sir ttoott pariyo dhar tthaadto rahiyo hai |
With the stroke of his arrow, the head of Hari Singh was chopped and his trunk remained standing
ਮੇਰੁ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਹੁ ਤੇ ਉਤਰਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਰਵਿ ਅਸਤ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੯੬॥
mer ke sringahu te utariyo su mano rav asat ko praat bhayo hai |1096|
The redness of blood on his body seemed to suggest that the sun of his head on Sumeru mountain had set and again the redness of the early morn was spreading.
ਮਾਰ ਲਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
maar layo har singh jabai ran singh tabai har aoopar dhaayo |
When Krishna killed Hari Singh, then Ran Singh fell upon him
ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
baan kamaan kripaan gadaa geh kai kar mai at judh machaayo |
He waged a dreadful war holding his weapons bow and arrows, swords, mace etc.
ਕੌਚ ਸਜੇ ਨਿਜ ਅੰਗ ਮਹਾ ਲਖਿ ਕੈ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
kauach saje nij ang mahaa lakh kai kab ne ih baat sunaayo |
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਮਤ ਕਰੀ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਊਪਰ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੦੯੭॥
maanahu mat karee ban mai ris kai mrigaraaj ke aoopar aayo |1097|
Seeing his limbs bedecked with his armour, the poet says that it appeared to him that an intoxicated elephant, in his fury, fell upon a lion.1097.
ਆਇ ਕੇ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਛਿਤਿ ਤੇ ਪਗੁ ਏਕ ਨ ਭਾਗਿਯੋ ॥
aae ke sayaam so judh kariyo ran kee chhit te pag ek na bhaagiyo |
He came and fought with Krishna and did not even recede one step
ਫੇਰਿ ਗਦਾ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਭੂਖਨ ਕੋ ਤਨੁ ਤਾੜਨ ਲਾਗਿਯੋ ॥
fer gadaa geh kai kar mai brijabhookhan ko tan taarran laagiyo |
Then he took up his mace in his hand and began to strike his blows on the body of Krishna
ਸੋ ਮਧਸੂਦਨ ਜੂ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਰਸ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਤਿ ਇਹ ਪਾਗਿਯੋ ॥
so madhasoodan joo lakhiyo ras rudr bikhai at ih paagiyo |
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਲਯੋ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਭੂਅ ਬਕ੍ਰ ਕਰੀ ਰਿਸ ਸੋ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੯੮॥
sree har chakr layo kar mai bhooa bakr karee ris so anuraagiyo |1098|
Seeing all this, Krishna was filled with great anger, he tilted his eyebrows and took his discus in his hand in order to knock him down on the ground.1098.
ਲੈ ਬਰਛੀ ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਕਾਜ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
lai barachhee ran singh tabai jadubeer ke maaran kaaj chalaaee |
ਜਾਇ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਅਨਚੇਤ ਦਈ ਭੁਜ ਫੋਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥
jaae lagee har ko anachet dee bhuj for kai paar dikhaaee |
At the same time, taking his danger in his hand, Ran Singh gave its blow to Krishna, the Yadava hero, in order to kill him
ਲਾਗ ਰਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਸਿਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਕਬਿ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
laag rahee prabh ke tan siau upamaa tih kee kab bhaakh sunaaee |
It suddenly struck Krishna and tearing his right arm, it penetrated to the other side
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਗ੍ਰੀਖਮ ਕੀ ਰੁਤਿ ਭੀਤਰ ਨਾਗਨਿ ਚੰਦਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥੧੦੯੯॥
maanahu greekham kee rut bheetar naagan chandan siau lapattaaee |1099|
Piercing the body of Krishna it appeared like a female serpent coiling a sandalwood tree in summer season.1099.
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਉਖਾਰ ਕੈ ਸੋ ਬਰਛੀ ਭੁਜ ਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰਨ ਹੇਤ ਚਲਾਈ ॥
sayaam ukhaar kai so barachhee bhuj te ar maaran het chalaaee |
Krishna extracting the same dagger from his arm, set it in motion in order to kill the enemy
ਬਾਨਨ ਕੇ ਘਨ ਬੀਚ ਚਲੀ ਚਪਲਾ ਕਿਧੌ ਹੰਸ ਕੀ ਅੰਸ ਤਚਾਈ ॥
baanan ke ghan beech chalee chapalaa kidhau hans kee ans tachaaee |
It struck like lighting within the clouds of arrows and appeared like a flying swan
ਜਾਇ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਉਰਿ ਫੋਰਿ ਦਈ ਉਹਿ ਓਰ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥
jaae lagee tih ke tan mai ur for dee uhi or dikhaaee |
It hit the body of Ran Singh and his chest was seen torn down
ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਭਰੀ ਹਨਿ ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਨ ਧਾਈ ॥੧੧੦੦॥
kaalikaa maanahu sraun bharee han sunbh nisunbh ko maaran dhaaee |1100|
It seemed like Durga, steeped in blood, going to kill Shumbh and Nishumbh.1100.
ਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਬੈ ਰਣਿ ਸਾਗ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਬੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪੁ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
ran singh jabai ran saag hanayo dhan singh tabai kar kop sidhaariyo |
ਧਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਬਰਛਾ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dhaae pariyo kar lai barachhaa lalakaar kai sree har aoopar jhaariyo |
When Ran Singh was killed with the dagger, then Dhan Singh ran in fury and taking his spear in his hand white shouting, he inflicted a blow on Krishna
ਆਵਤ ਸੋ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਘਨ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਨਿਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਖਗ ਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
aavat so lakhiyo ghan sayaam nikaar kai khag su due kar ddaariyo |
ਭੂਮਿ ਦੁਟੂਕ ਹੋਇ ਟੂਟ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਬਡੋ ਅਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੧॥
bhoom duttook hoe ttoott pariyo su mano khagaraaj baddo eh maariyo |1101|
Seeing him coming, Krishna took out his sword and with his blow, chopped the enemy into two halves and this spectacle appeared as if the Garuda had killed a huge serpent.1101.
ਘਾਉ ਬਚਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਅਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
ghaau bachaae kai sree jadubeer saraasan lai ar aoopar dhaayo |
Saving himself from getting wounded, Krishna took up bow and arrows and fell upon the enemy
ਚਾਰ ਮਹੂਰਤ ਜੁਧ ਭਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਘਾਇ ਨ ਹੁਇ ਉਹਿ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਘਾਯੋ ॥
chaar mahoorat judh bhayo har ghaae na hue uhi ko nahee ghaayo |
Battle was fought for four maburats (span of time), in which neither the enemy was killed, nor Krishna was wounded
ਰੋਸ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਹੂੰ ਤਿਹ ਖੈਚ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
ros kai baan hanayo har kau har hoon tih khaich kai baan lagaayo |
The enemy in his ragedischarged an arrow on Krishna and from this side Krishna also shot his arrow by pulling his bow
ਦੇਖ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਖ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਹੂੰ ਮੁਖ ਦੇਖ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਕਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੨॥
dekh rahiyo mukh sree har ko har hoon mukh dekh rahiyo musakaayo |1102|
He began to look at the face of Krishna and from this side Krishna on seeing him smilled.1102.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਬੀਰ ਬਲੀ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੈ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
sree jadubeer ko beer balee as lai kar mai dhan singh pai dhaayo |
One of the mighty warriors of Krishna took his sword in his hand and fell upon Dhan Singh
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਗਜਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਡਰਪਾਯੋ ॥
aavat hee lalakaar pariyo gaj maanahu kehar kau ddarapaayo |
While coming, he shouted so loudly, when it seemed that the elephant had frightened the lion
ਤਉ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਸਰ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਸਿਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
tau dhan singh saraasan lai sar so tih ko sir bhoom giraayo |
Taking up his bow and arrows Dhan Singh threw his head on the earth
ਜਿਉ ਅਹਿ ਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਆਨਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਨਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੩॥
jiau eh raaj ke aanan bheetar aan pariyo mrig jaan na paayo |1103|
This spectacle seemed like this that a deer had unknowingly fallen in the mouth of a boa.1103.
ਦੂਸਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਬੀਰ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਸਰ ਕੋਪ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
doosar sree jadubeer ke beer saraasan lai sar kop bhayo hai |
ਧੀਰ ਬਲੀ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੀ ਓਰ ਚਲਾਵਤ ਬਾਨ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
dheer balee dhan singh kee or chalaavat baan nisank gayo hai |
A second warrior of Krishna, greatly enraged, taking bow and arrows in his hand, unhesitatingly, marched forward towards mighty Dhan Singh.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਲੀਓ ਅਸਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਕਟਿਓ ਅਰਿ ਮਾਥਨ ਡਾਰ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
sree dhan singh leeo as haath kattio ar maathan ddaar dayo hai |
Dhan Singh took his sword in his hand and chopped and threw the enemy’s forehead
ਕਾਛੀ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਓ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਬਾਰਿਜ ਤੋਰ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੦੪॥
kaachhee nihaar sarovar te prafulio maanahu baarij tor layo hai |1104|
It appeared like some surveyor, seeing the lotus in the tank had plucked it.1104.
ਮਾਰਿ ਦੁ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਸਨ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਕਉ ਤਕਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
maar du beeran ko dhan singh saraasan lai dal kau tak dhaayo |
ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਗਜਿ ਬਾਜ ਹਨੇ ਰਥ ਪੈਦਲ ਕਾਟਿ ਘਨੋ ਰਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
aavat hee gaj baaj hane rath paidal kaatt ghano ran paayo |
Killing the two warriors, mighty Dhan Singh, taking his bow and arrows in his hand, fell upon the army and waged a dreadful war and chopped elephants, horses, charioteers and soldiers on foot
ਖਗ ਅਲਾਤ ਕੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਖਰ ਸਾਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕੋ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਲਜਾਯੋ ॥
khag alaat kee bhaat firio khar saan nripaal ko chhatr lajaayo |
His dagger was gleaming like fire, seeing which the canopy of the king was feeling shy
ਅਉਰ ਭਲੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਲਖਿ ਭੀਖਮ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੫॥
aaur bhalee upamaa tih kee lakh bheekham kau har chakr bhramaayo |1105|
He looked like that Bhishma, seeing whom Krishna began to revolve his discus.1105.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਧਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਸਨੁ ਲੈ ਰਿਸ ਕੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਲ ਮਾਝਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥
bahuro dhan singh saraasan lai ris kai ar ke dal maajh pariyo |
Then Dhan Singh, taking his bow and arrows in his hand, angrily penetrated into the ranks of the enemy
ਰਥਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਘਨੇ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਹਨੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਗਨੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਲਰਿਯੋ ॥
rath kaatt ghane gaj baaj hane nahee jaat gane ih bhaat lariyo |
He waged such a fierce battle that the broken chariots and chopped elephants and horses cannot be counted
ਜਮਲੋਕੁ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਪਠਏ ਹਰਿ ਓਰ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
jamalok su beer kite patthe har or chaliyo at kop bhariyo |
He sent many a warrior to the abode of Yama and then in rage, he marched towards Krishna
ਮੁਖ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਦਲੁ ਜਾਦਵ ਕੋ ਸਿਗਰੋ ਬਿਡਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੧੦੬॥
mukh maar hee maar pukaar pariyo dal jaadav ko sigaro biddariyo |1106|
He shouted “kill, kill” from his mouth and seeing him, the forces of Yadavas broke into fragments.1106.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
agam agochar daras teraa so paae jis masatak bhaag |
The Blessed Vision of Your Darshan is unapproachable and incomprehensible; he alone obtains it, who has such good destiny recorded upon his forehead.
ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
aap kripaal kripaa prabh dhaaree satigur bakhasiaa har naam |1|
The Merciful Lord God has bestowed His Mercy, and the True Guru has granted the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਉਧਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

The Divine Guru is the Saving Grace in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
ਮਲ ਮੂਤ ਮੂੜ ਜਿ ਮੁਘਦ ਹੋਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਗੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mal moot moorr ji mughad hote sabh lage teree sev |1| rahaau |
Even those fools and idiots, stained with feces and urine, have all taken to Your service. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਧਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
too aap karataa sabh srisatt dharataa sabh meh rahiaa samaae |
You Yourself are the Creator, who established the entire world. You are contained in all.
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਭ ਪਈ ਪੈਰੀ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
dharam raajaa bisamaad hoaa sabh pee pairee aae |2|
The Righteous Judge of Dharma is wonder-struck, at the sight of everyone falling at the Lord's Feet. ||2||
ਸਤਜੁਗੁ ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾ ਦੁਆਪਰੁ ਭਣੀਐ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਊਤਮੋ ਜੁਗਾ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
satajug tretaa duaapar bhaneeai kalijug aootamo jugaa maeh |
The Golden Age of Sat Yuga, the Silver Age of Trayta Yuga, and the Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga are good; but the best is the Dark Age, the Iron Age, of Kali Yuga.
ਅਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਅਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਪਕੜੀਐ ਕਿਸੈ ਥਾਇ ॥੩॥
eh kar kare su eh kar paae koee na pakarreeai kisai thaae |3|
As we act, so are the rewards we receive; no one can take the place of another. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਏਹੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ॥
har jeeo soee kareh ji bhagat tere jaacheh ehu teraa birad |
O Dear Lord, whatever Your devotees ask for, You do. This is Your Way, Your very nature.
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਅਪਣਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੪੦॥
kar jorr naanak daan maagai apaniaa santaa dehi har daras |4|5|140|
With my palms pressed together, O Nanak, I beg for this gift; Lord, please bless Your Saints with Your Vision. ||4||5||140||

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਾਦੀ ਦੁਸਟ ਅਪਵਾਦੀ ਤੇ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸੰਗਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
mahaa bikhaadee dusatt apavaadee te puneet sangaare |1|
Even the most argumentative, vicious and indecent people, have been purified in Your company. ||1||
ਜਨਮ ਭਵੰਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਪੜੰਤੇ ਤਿਨੑ ਕੇ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
janam bhavante narak parrante tina ke kul udhaare |2|
Those who have wandered in reincarnation, and those who have been consigned to hell - even their families have been redeemed. ||2||
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੩॥
koe na jaanai koe na maanai se paragatt har duaare |3|
Those whom no one knew, and those whom no one respected - even they have become famous and respected at the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਵਡਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਵਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੪੧॥
kavan upamaa deo kavan vaddaaee naanak khin khin vaare |4|1|141|
What praise, and what greatness should I attribute to You? Nanak is a sacrifice to You, each and every moment. ||4||1||141||

moh kuttanb bikhai ras maate mithiaa gehan gahe |1|
They are intoxicated with attachment to their families and sensory pleasures; they are held in the grip of falsehood. ||1||
ਮਿਥਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸੁਪਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਉਲਾਸ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਹੇ ॥੨॥
mithan manorath supan aanand ulaas man mukh sat kahe |2|
The false desires, and the dream-like delights and pleasures - these, the self-willed manmukhs call true. ||2||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਤਿਲੁ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੇ ॥੩॥
amrit naam padaarath sange til maram na lahe |3|
The wealth of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is with them, but they do not find even a tiny bit of its mystery. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਹੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੪੨॥

By Your Grace, O Lord, You save those, who take to the Sanctuary of the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||4||2||142||

kanik maanik gaj moteean laalan neh naah nahee |1|
Gold, jewels, giant pearls and rubies - I have no need for them. ||1||
ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭਾਗ ਨ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਸਾਦਨ ॥ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਚਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
raaj na bhaag na hukam na saadan | kichh kichh na chaahee |2|
Imperial power, fortunes, royal command and mansions - I have no desire for these. ||2||
ਚਰਨਨ ਸਰਨਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਬੰਦਨ ॥ ਸੁਖੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਹੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਪਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਰੀ ॥੩॥੩॥੧੪੩॥
charanan saranan santan bandan | sukho sukh paahee | naanak tapat haree | mile prem piree |3|3|143|
The Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet, and dedication to the Saints these bring me peace and pleasure. O Nanak, my burning fire has been put out, obtaining the Love of the Beloved. ||3||3||143||
