ਸੁਪਨ ਪਿਖਾ ਇਕ ਕੰਸ ਨੇ ਅਤੈ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਰੂਪ ॥

ਅਤਿ ਬਿਆਕੁਲ ਜੀਯ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਭੂਪਿ ॥੮੪੨॥

On this side, Kansa saw a dreadful dream during the night and greatly agitated, he called all his servants.842.

ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਹੀ ਇਕ ਖੇਲਨ ਕੋ ਰੰਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ॥
bhrit bulaae kai raaje kahee ik khelan ko rang bhoom banaavahu |
ਗੋਪਨ ਕੋ ਇਕਠਾ ਰਖੀਏ ਹਮਰੇ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਦਲ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਬੁਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
gopan ko ikatthaa rakhee hamare sab hee dal ko su bulaavahu |
Calling his servants, the king said, “A stage be set up for playing keep the gopas together at one place and also call our whole army:
ਕਾਰਜ ਸੀਘ੍ਰ ਕਰੋ ਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਹਮਰੇ ਇਕ ਪੈ ਗਨ ਕਉ ਤਿਸਿਟਾਵਹੁ ॥
kaaraj seeghr karo su ihai hamare ik pai gan kau tisittaavahu |
Do this work very quickly and do not go even one step backward
ਖੇਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਤੁਮ ਮਲਨ ਠਾਢਿ ਕੈ ਆਪ ਸਬੈ ਕਸਿ ਕੈ ਕਟਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥੮੪੩॥
khel bikhai tum malan tthaadt kai aap sabai kas kai katt aavahu |843|
Tell the wrestlers to get ready and come and keep them standing there.843.
ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਭੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਸੋਊ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
bhrit sabhai nrip kee bateeyaa sun kai utth kai soaoo kaaraj keeno |
ਠਾਢਿ ਕੀਯੋ ਗਜ ਪਉਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਸੁ ਰਚਿਯੋ ਰੰਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਕੋ ਠਉਰ ਨਵੀਨੋ ॥
tthaadt keeyo gaj paur bikhai su rachiyo rang bhoom ko tthaur naveeno |
Listening to the orders of the king, the servants did accordingly, keeping the elephant standing at the gate, a new stage was set up
ਮਲ ਜਹਾ ਰਿਪੁ ਬੀਰ ਘਨੇ ਪਿਖਿਏ ਰਿਪੁ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਸੀਨੋ ॥
mal jahaa rip beer ghane pikhie rip aavat jaeh paseeno |
On that stage the mighty warriors were standing, seeing whom, the enemies would even get disheartened
ਐਸੀ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਠਉਰ ਸੋਊ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਾਨਸ ਭੇਜਿ ਸੁ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੮੪੪॥
aisee banaae kai tthaur soaoo har ke grih maanas bhej su deeno |844|
The servants set up such a place that they received all kinds of praise.844.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੇਵਕ ਲੈ ਇਨ ਸੰਗ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੰਸ ਕੇ ਪਉਰ ਪੈ ਆਯੋ ॥
nrip sevak lai in sang chaliyo chal kai nrip kans ke paur pai aayo |
The servant of the king brought all these people (Krishna and his companions) in the palace of king Kansa
ਐ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਘਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਯੋ ॥
ai kai kahiyo nrip ko ghar hai tih te sabh gvaaran sees jhukaayo |
He told all of them that this is the house of the king, therefore all the gopas bowed their heads in veneration
ਆਗੇ ਪਿਖਿਯੋ ਗਜ ਮਤ ਮਹਾ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੋ ਗਜਵਾਨ ਰਿਸਾਯੋ ॥
aage pikhiyo gaj mat mahaa kahiyo door karo gajavaan risaayo |
They saw before them an intoxicated elephant and the mahout is asking all of them to get away
ਧਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਯੌ ਮਨੋ ਪੁਨ ਕੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥੮੪੫॥
dhaae pariyo har aoopar yau mano pun ke aoopar paap sidhaayo |845|
The elephant speedily fell upon Krishna in such a way just as the vice falls upon the virtue in order to destroy it.845.
ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਗਜ ਮਤ ਮਹਾ ਭਰ ਸੁੰਡਿ ਲਏ ਭਟ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੋਊ ॥
kop bhare gaj mat mahaa bhar sundd le bhatt sundar doaoo |
ਸੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਘਨ ਸੋ ਗਰਜਿਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਉਪਮ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
so tab hee ghan so garajiyo jih kee sam upam aaur na koaoo |
The elephant angrily entrapped both beautiful warriors (Krishna and Balram) in his trunk and began to roar in a unique way
ਪੇਟ ਤਰੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਪਸਰੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਬਧੀਯਾ ਅਰਿ ਜੋਊ ॥
pett tare tih ke pasare kab sayaam kahai badheeyaa ar joaoo |
ਯੌ ਉਪਜੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਸੋ ਮਨੋ ਖੇਲਤ ਦੋਊ ॥੮੪੬॥
yau upajee upamaa jeey mai apane rip so mano khelat doaoo |846|
Both the brother, who are the killers of the enemies, began to swing under the belly of the elephant and appeared to be busy in playing with the enemy.846.
ਤਬ ਕੋਪੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਦਾਤ ਉਖਾਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
tab kop kariyo man mai har joo tih ko tab daat ukhaar layo hai |
Then, Krishna, in great rage, extirpated the tusk of the elephant
ਏਕ ਦਈ ਗਜ ਸੂੰਡ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੁਪਿ ਦੂਸਰ ਸੀਸ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
ek dee gaj soondd bikhai kup doosar sees ke beech dayo hai |
He made another attack on the trunk of the elephant and the second attack on his head
ਚੋਟ ਲਗੀ ਸਿਰ ਬੀਚ ਘਨੀ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਸੋ ਮੁਰਝਾਇ ਪਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
chott lagee sir beech ghanee dharanee par so murajhaae payo hai |
Because of the dreadful blow, the elephant became lifeless and fell on the earth
ਸੋ ਮਰਿ ਗਯੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੋ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਆਗਮ ਆਜ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੮੪੭॥
so mar gayo rip ke badh ko mathuraa hoon ko aagam aaj bhayo hai |847|
The elephant died and it seemed that Krishna had entered Mathura on that day in order to kill Kansa.847.

ਕੰਧਿ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਗਜ ਦਾਤ ਉਖਾਰ ਕੈ ਬੀਚ ਗਏ ਰੰਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਕੇ ਦੋਊ ॥
kandh dhariyo gaj daat ukhaar kai beech ge rang bhoom ke doaoo |
After extirpating the tusk of the elephant and placing it upon the shoulder, both the brothers reached at the (newly set-up) stage
ਬੀਰਨ ਬੀਰ ਬਡੋ ਈ ਪਿਖਿਯੋ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਇਨ ਮਲਨ ਸੋਊ ॥
beeran beer baddo ee pikhiyo balavaan lakhiyo in malan soaoo |
The warriors saw them as mighty warriors and the wrestlers at that place considered them as very sturdy
ਸਾਧਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਗ ਯਾ ਸਮ ਦੂਸਰ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
saadhan dekh lakhiyo karataa jag yaa sam doosar aaur na koaoo |
The saints considering them unique, visualised them as the creators of the world
ਤਾਤ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਕਰ ਕੈ ਲਰਕਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੰਸ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਘਰਿ ਖੋਊ ॥੮੪੮॥
taat lakhiyo kar kai larakaa nrip kans lakhiyo man mai ghar khoaoo |848|
The father saw them as sons and to king Kansa, they seemed as destroyers of his house.848.
ਤਉ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੈਠਿ ਸਭਾ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਮਲਨ ਸੋ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਲਰਾਯੋ ॥
tau nrip baitth sabhaa hoon ke bheetar malan so jaduraae laraayo |
Sitting in the assembly, the king caused Krishna, the king of Yadavas to fight with his wrestlers
ਮੁਸਟ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਲਰਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਸੁ ਚੰਡੂਰ ਸੋ ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਜੂ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
musatt ke saath lariyo musalee su chanddoor so sayaam joo judh machaayo |
Balram fought with the wrestler named Mushitak and on this side Krishna fought with Chandur
ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੇ ਰਨ ਕੀ ਗਿਰ ਸੋ ਹਰ ਜੂ ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਕੋਪੁ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
bhoom pare ran kee gir so har joo man bheetar kop badtaayo |
ਏਕ ਲਗੀ ਨ ਤਹਾ ਘਟਿਕਾ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥੮੪੯॥
ek lagee na tahaa ghattikaa dharanee par taa kahu maar giraayo |849|
When Krishna became infuriated, all these wrestlers fell on the earth like mountains and Krishna killed them in a very short time.849.

bhram meh soee sagal jagat dhandh andh | koaoo jaagai har jan |1|
The whole world is asleep in doubt; it is blinded by worldly entanglements. How rare is that humble servant of the Lord who is awake and aware. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਗਨ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥ ਕੋਊ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ॥੨॥
mahaa mohanee magan pria preet praan | koaoo tiaagai viralaa |2|
The mortal is intoxicated with the great enticement of Maya, which is dearer to him than life. How rare is the one who renounces it. ||2||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਨੂਪ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੰਤ ॥ ਕੋਊ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਾਧੂ ॥੩॥
charan kamal aanoop har sant mant | koaoo laagai saadhoo |3|
The Lord's Lotus Feet are incomparably beautiful; so is the Mantra of the Saint. How rare is that holy person who is attached to them. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੯॥
naanak saadhoo sang jaage giaan rang | vaddabhaage kirapaa |4|1|39|
O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the love of divine knowledge is awakened; The Lord's Mercy is bestowed upon those who are blessed with such good destiny. ||4||1||39||

jo tudh bhaavai so paravaanaa sookh sehaj man soee |
Whatever pleases You is acceptable to me; that alone brings peace and ease to my mind.
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
karan kaaran samarath apaaraa avar naahee re koee |1|
You are the Doer, the Cause of causes, All-powerful and Infinite; there is none other than You. ||1||
ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
tere jan rasak rasak gun gaaveh |
Your humble servants sing Your Glorious Praises with enthusiasm and love.
ਮਸਲਤਿ ਮਤਾ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
masalat mataa siaanap jan kee jo toon kareh karaaveh |1| rahaau |
That alone is good advice, wisdom and cleverness for Your humble servant, which You do or cause to be done. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
amrit naam tumaaraa piaare saadhasang ras paaeaa |
Your Name is Ambrosial Nectar, O Beloved Lord; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have obtained its sublime essence.
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
tripat aghaae seee jan poore sukh nidhaan har gaaeaa |2|
Those humble beings are satisfied and fulfilled, singing the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of peace. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
jaa kau ttek tumaaree suaamee taa kau naahee chintaa |
One who has Your Support, O Lord Master, is not afflicted by anxiety.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇ ਸਾਹ ਭਲੇ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੩॥
jaa kau deaa tumaaree hoee se saah bhale bhagavantaa |3|
One who is blessed by Your Kind Mercy, is the best, the most fortunate king. ||3||
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਜਬ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bharam moh dhroh sabh nikase jab kaa darasan paaeaa |
Doubt, attachment, and deceit have all disappeared, since I obtained the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.
ਵਰਤਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੦॥
varatan naam naanak sach keenaa har naame rang samaaeaa |4|1|40|
Dealing in the Naam, O Nanak, we become truthful, and in the Love of the Lord's Name, we are absorbed. ||4||1 | 40||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
janam janam kee mal dhovai paraaee aapanaa keetaa paavai |
He washes off the filth of other peoples' incarnations, but he obtains the rewards of his own actions.
ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਢੋਈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਚਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
eehaa sukh nahee daragah dtoee jam pur jaae pachaavai |1|
He has no peace in this world, and he has no place in the Court of the Lord. In the City of Death, he is tortured. ||1||
ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
nindak ahilaa janam gavaaeaa |
The slanderer loses his life in vain.
ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਾਤੈ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pahuch na saakai kaahoo baatai aagai tthaur na paaeaa |1| rahaau |
He cannot succeed in anything, and in the world hereafter, he finds no place at all. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
kirat peaa nindak bapure kaa kiaa ohu karai bichaaraa |
Such is the fate of the wretched slanderer - what can the poor creature do?
ਤਹਾ ਬਿਗੂਤਾ ਜਹ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਓਹੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
tahaa bigootaa jeh koe na raakhai ohu kis peh kare pukaaraa |2|
He is ruined there, where no one can protect him; with whom should he lodge his complaint? ||2||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਖਸਮੈ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
nindak kee gat katahoon naahee khasamai evai bhaanaa |
The slanderer shall never attain emancipation; this is the Will of the Lord and Master.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਤਿਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
jo jo nind kare santan kee tiau santan sukh maanaa |3|
The more the Saints are slandered, the more they dwell in peace. ||3||
ਸੰਤਾ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
santaa ttek tumaaree suaamee toon santan kaa sahaaee |
The Saints have Your Support, O Lord and Master; You are the Saints' Help and Support.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੀਏ ਰੁੜਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੧॥
kahu naanak sant har raakhe nindak dee rurraaee |4|2|41|
Says Nanak, the Saints are saved by the Lord; the slanderers are drowned in the deep. ||4||2||41||
